Starling’s Again by Aver Rigsley

 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54138709-starling-s-again?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=WqRrPGnFsp&rank=1

Blurb:
October 1943. Manhattan, New York.

Peter Corcoran has been a Friday night regular at the Starling Club for so long that he has his own seat at a back table. From here, he watches the battalion of stunning single ladies take turns dancing with the most handsome man in the whole establishment. That attractive man is not only his best friend but also his roommate—and it won’t be one of the drop-dead-gorgeous women who Daniel Bennet goes home with at the end of the night.

When the closed apartment door cuts off the rest of the world, Danny gives him the first of a series of burning kisses—kisses that never cease to shatter Peter’s universe. But the tiny, cynical voice in the back of his head has him doubting their strange, secret charade and wondering if their romance could ever be more than just an indulgence at the end of the week, when prying eyes aren’t looking…

Review:
Short, but sweet story of two friends navigating around the romantic feelings they have for each other.
While Danny dances with ladies at the club they frequent – Peter can’t help wondering if Danny truly feels the same way about him, even though they go home together each Snight.
It’s sweet the way Danny reassures Peter of his feelings; showing him with gentle touches and telling Peter how he felt about him in the past, and how he feels about him now.
It’s a good story, just wish it was longer. It would have been nice to see if their plans for their future worked out.

Recent Release: Slow Pitch by Amy Lane

Link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/51578714-slow-pitch?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=wiXkeuq7Pa&rank=1

Blurb: Tenner Gibson has a job he enjoys, a prickly ex-wife, and an adorable daughter he wouldn’t trade for the world. With no romance, no sex life, and no other hobbies, a rec league softball team is as close as he gets to hedonism.

But life throws him a curveball when cocky Ross McTierney sets his sights on getting under Tenner’s skin.
One explosion of lust later, Tenner wonders what possessed him to have a quickie with Ross, and Ross wonders how to do it again.

Tenner has eight weeks to convince his tiny modern family that Ross is what’s best for him. Ross has eight weeks to get used to the idea that complicated doesn’t always mean bad. Their sex life is moving at the speed of light, and everything in their relationship is coming at them too fast….
But together, they might make a connection and knock it out of the park.

Review: I loved this story! This is one of the few times I wish I could be more eloquent when reviewing a book.
Where to start: Tenner. Such a lovely guy, family man, still wants to be friends with his ex-wife, loves his daughter and baseball. Has a wonderful boss, a bit of a temper and a wry sense of humour. Ross: A bit of an over confident, fun guy who cares for the environment. Also brother in law to ‘wonderful’ boss and has never stayed in one place for long.
When both men meet they think it’s a one off (lust) thing, but somehow, they decide to meet again (against Tenner’s better judgement). As they get to know each other, their lives intertwine – Ross meets the daughter, Tenner realises that Ross is the BIL to his boss, they both love baseball and they’re both willing to believe in their budding relationship, all the while slowly falling in love. This is such a sweet, sometimes humourous (lots of dry wit  ), no angst story. Though sweet, it manages to lightly touch on some serious themes: bigoted parents, an angry ex-wife (she comes around) and how to broach the subject of sexuality to one’s kid or parent. Other characters include 2 lovely families – Ross’s sister’s and Piper (Ten’s daughter) all make up a truly lovely story!
Definitely going to be reread often!

Dante

For over three hundred years, I’ve waited for Fate to deliver my soulmate; the person I’d love for the rest of my life; the one I was destined to protect, to treasure and to cherish. The one to complete me.

I never expected to find him dancing like an angel in my nightclub. The moment my eyes gazed upon his beauty, my heart was gone. The most mesmerizing thing about him were his eyes; he had the biggest, roundest doe eyes I’d ever seen. They were an enchanting shade of blue; the exact color of the Mediterranean Sea. When I looked into those eyes, I was home.

The problem? Ben is human and knows nothing of vampires or our culture. His anxious nature and pure heart give me pause in divulging my true identity. Will he believe what I have to tell him? Can he ever accept what I’ve done; what I need to do? Can someone so sweet and innocent ever see me as anything but a monster?

Time is running out for me to claim my mate as I grow weaker every day. If he does accept me, can I keep him safe from the dangers that lurk around every corner?

Ben

The nightclub really isn’t my scene. I’m more of a book reading, star gazing nerd at heart. However, I allow my best friend to drag me out one night (at nine o’clock, I might add!) because I can’t resist his puppy dog expression and he knows it.

There, I find the sexiest man I’ve ever seen; tall, strong, and with a sultry Spanish accent that turns my insides to goo. We hit it off immediately, but I’m worried; how can this wealthy, powerful man be attracted to boring little me?

The most exciting thing about me is that I know how to ballroom dance, and that’s only because I took lessons with my grandma! I’ve got no experience with men, my best friend refers to me as “Papaw” because again, I’m boring, and a hundred different worries are always battling in my mind.

Can Dante accept me as I am and maybe bring a little excitement into my life?

*This M/M paranormal romance is for readers 18 and up! It has no cliffhangers or cheating and a very happy HEA. It contains a sexy Spaniard vampire, his anxious little love and a hilarious (if not insufferable) best friend. Look out for lurking dangers, heartwarming moments and steamy scenes!

**Author’s note: Thank you for your interest in my book! This paranormal romance features my take on some seriously sexy vampires. They share many attributes of vampires found in other fictional works, but not all. This book contains dark elements, fated mates, sweet moments and lots of laughs. My stories tend to be low angst because it hurts my heart; I like getting to the good stuff and live for fluff. If “instalove” isn’t your thing, my books may not be for you. I want my readers to finish my books with a smile on their face and a fierce case of the warm and fuzzies. Laughter is guaranteed, and each read delivers its own type of drama. Thanks again for taking a look and happy reading!

Review

I went looking for this author after finding her recent shifter story- Mine to Save- and found this beauty!

This is even more sappy than that book but just as indulgently wonderful, too.

If you’re in the mood for sweet and you like vampire insta love – give this a go!

(The editing is good, but the cover needs a lot of attention :). )

When I find mine, I’m captivated by his intoxicating scent and struck by his incomparable beauty. But his circumstances are dire, and I pray I’m not too late.
Rory – After being kicked out of my house for being gay, I moved to the city with my best friend Dax in search of a fresh start and acceptance. He’s my family and supports me in everything I do. He’s all I have in life; well, besides my crappy, low-paying job and my love of photography. That love pushed me to save every penny possible for months to purchase a new camera. I decide to take it into the forest to capture the beauty of nature, even though I have a terrible sense of direction. And a body that’s not built for hiking. And zero endurance. What could go wrong?

If you are in the mood for sap on a stick with so much sweetness you’ll get a toothache -this is for you! I TOTALLY needed a book like this and was super happy to have found this author!

It’s predictable and a bit formulaic, but who cares! It’s fun and the characters are sweet as pie.

I loved finding this new world and new author to explore and a chance to indulge my sweet tooth!

(I did have to subtract .5 stars for the cover – the editing is great but I’d highly recommend re-visiting the value added in a nice cover :). )

Review

First I want to say “How did I miss this when it first came out????”
I’m a huge hockey fan and I’ll tell you I get really annoyed when authors don’t know the sport or do a crummy job integrating the sport with the romance.

Rachel Reid does neither.

I read book 2 first, because that’s what I’d requested but I immediately turned around and read this because it was that good!

I can’t say if this one or that one is better because they are so different.

In this we have a “good boy” but closeted and another pretty “good boy” but out who meet. Kip has no real knowledge of hockey and doesn’t even recognize Scott as the star he is.

The author does a terrific job of giving us the regular NHL cities with probable NHL teams with different names. It allows her to lean on our own knowledge of the city and the fan base and the experience without having to infringe on rights or create an alternate world.

I was very impressed by this and her knowledge of the sport.

The romance is really sweet with some smokin’ hot smexy times and the sweetest HEA ever!

I really can’t say enough about this!

If you like Cinderfella stories, hockey, sports romances, coming out stories and sweet love stories – this is for you!

Audio

Tor Thom did a fantastic job with this.  He has a lovely deep voice and really tries hard to give all the characters a unique voice to match their persona.  He’s a relatively new narrator (to me) but I’ll definitely keep him on my radar for the future!  Recommended!

Welcome to Hidden Creek, Texas, where the heart knows what it wants, and where true love lives happily ever after. Every Men of Hidden Creek novel can be enjoyed on its own, but keep an eye out for familiar faces around town! This audiobook contains not-so-fake boyfriends, a stowaway kitty, and enough fireworks to outshine the Fourth of July.

Review
I loved this! I found Channing to be AWESOME and I truly wish he was a person I could know and love because I totally would!

I found his “coversion” to bi-sexuality to be totally believable and totally sweet and wonderful.

If I have a complaint it’s that the Nasa “boss” was supposedly trying to be more open and keeping with modern times but time and again Jason’s nemesis – I forget his name – says homophobic and bullying comments in front of their boss and it’s brushed off til the end when he damn near kills people!

Jason was a doll and though I grew a little weary of his “but how can he be attracted to little ol’ me?” a bit trying – he mostly charmed me. I SUPER loved all the wives! They seemed like a hoot as well, and another great group of folks to get to know.

I bought this for Nick Russo and he did another tremendous job – including the southern accents!

Highly recommended!

Through all of those monumental moments, one thing has been a constant for him, Jared Madsen. Now that their wedding day is drawing nearer, Ten is seriously considering eloping. Would sneaking off during the night with Jared and skipping to the honeymoon part of the festivities really be all that bad?

Is it wrong to think seriously about kidnapping Ten and spiriting him away to a small deserted island?

Adler organizing the bachelor party, Trent supplying the wedding planner, and Stan writing a speech. What can possibly go wrong?

Review

I super loved this!
I was expecting something silly and fluffy and it is that, but it also reminded me of why I loved these characters to begin with.

The story is sweet and funny with all the guys showing up and lots of Stan to keep you entertained.

Audiobook: The Doctor’s Secret (Copper Point Medical #1) by Heidi Cullinan Narrated by Iggy Toma

The Doctor’s Secret (Audiobook) by Heidi Cullinan | https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/the-doctors-secret-by-heidi-cullinan-10296-bAudible.comhttps://www.audible.com › Fiction › Gay & Lesbian

Blurb

The brilliant but brooding new doctor encounters Copper Point’s sunny nurse-next-door… and nothing can stand in the way of this romance.

Dr. Hong-Wei Wu has come to Copper Point, Wisconsin, after the pressures of a high-powered residency burned him out of his career before he started. Ashamed of letting his family down after all they’ve done for him, he plans to live a quiet life as a simple surgeon in this tiny northern town. His plans, however, don’t include his outgoing, kind, and attractive surgical nurse, Simon Lane.

Simon wasn’t ready for the new surgeon to be a handsome charmer who keeps asking him for help getting settled and who woos him with amazing Taiwanese dishes. There’s no question—Dr. Wu is flirting with him, and Simon is flirting back. The problem is, St. Ann’s has a strict no-dating policy between staff, which means their romance is off the table… unless they bend the rules.

But a romance that keeps them—literally—in the closet can’t lead to happy ever after. Simon doesn’t want to stay a secret, and Hong-Wei doesn’t want to keep himself removed from life, not anymore. To secure their happiness, they’ll have to change the administration’s mind. But what other secrets will they uncover along the way, about Copper Point… and about each other?

Review

This story reminded me how much I loved Heidi Cullinan stories so I had to go back and listen to Carry the Ocean. Gah. I love that so much!

This is more along the lines of her Love Lessons series. It’s very light and though it could have some dark moments, the author mostly skims over those. Hong-Wei’s family is actually amazing and rather than doing what you might imagine – they do something a bit different.

The hospital administration is probably the worst villain in this and they seemed to act as they should once faced with the opposition.

I applaud the science and medicine in this. Either Heidi is in the field or knows someone – because if felt very authentic.

I didn’t give this 5 stars because I wanted more tension and resolution between our MCs. It was just a bit too easy and I wasn’t as involved in their romance as I was the whole thing going on with Hong-Wei and his family and career.

In the end, I can’t wait for books 2 and 3 to come out because I already love those characters!

Audio

Iggy Toma does his typical stellar job.  He’s engaging and easy to listen to and does a nice job with the various characters.  He doesn’t do much as far as accents to but I didn’t miss them.
