Sometimes your mouth makes deals that your heart can’t honour.

Jude is a highly successful model, but a very reluctant one. His life is full of casual hook-ups with pretty men in glamorous locations, but it’s still empty. However, circumstances decreed a long time ago that this was his path, so he’s resolutely stayed on it and accepted his fate with good grace. He made a deal with himself and his hook-ups. Get in, get out and no ties with anyone.

However, an accident at home one night leads to him making a new deal and accepting the offer of help from an unlikely source. It leads to an unexpected summer of falling in love with a larger than life man and his child.

But by the end of the summer his reasons for not staying are still valid. Will he turn away? Can he?

Asa is a talented actor who has spent time away from the scene to look after his son. But now he’s back, and the last thing he needs are complications from the gorgeous man who is staying with him. Scarred from too many betrayals, he has no intention of forming a lasting tie with anyone. However, he can’t resist the beautiful man with secrets, and to his horror he develops feelings.

But a deal’s a deal and they said it was just for the summer. What can Asa do with a man who has forever in his eyes and goodbye on his lips?

From the Amazon bestselling author of ‘Rule Breaker’ comes another scorchingly hot romantic comedy.

Review

Unlike the first book in the series that took some effort to get into, I liked this one from the start. Jude is the perfect snarky character to ever grace a books pages, he does his outmost to be a ditzy, clueless model parody to make Asa’s life difficult. And as funny as that was, I liked that the author didn’t take it too far or it could have been annoying. Asa, for his part, is also a clever witty man and catches on to Jude’s act, shifting their relationship to a new territory.
Asa is just a big old cuddly softy that makes the ultimate book boyfriend, and his relationship with his son is sweet and touching. Billy is the cutest, most conniving little boy you can imagine and seeing how Asa and Jude orbit around his was wonderful.
I liked how much Jude was a well-rounded character, he had many good reasons to be the way he was, and Asa did too. It made the conflict of the story that much more interesting because you could clearly take either side. Finding their HEA was not easy and they each had to fight old scars and pain from past relationships to get it.
This book is both funny and genuinely touching, with great supporting characters too. The replies to fan mail Jude writes in Asa’s name at the beginning of ever chapter are hilarious! Choosing to read them out in Asa’s voice is even more so!

The narration by Joel Leslie is, like always fantastic! He fits characters like Jude and Dylan so well and his accent work his so good! I cannot get enough of his accents, he’s like a chameleon, smoothly moving from character to character. This book was hilarious and he just made it that much better with his nuances and acting skills.

He’s Mr. Right Now, but for how long?

When Russ suffers a Thanksgiving disaster, his gorgeous neighbor Esteban is there to save the day. And after an innocent mix-up leads to the former Hollywood hottie playing the role of Russ’s date, Russ thinks scoring Esteban as his fake boyfriend is a huge win. The newly discharged marine is healing inside and out and could use some holiday cheer.

For his part, Esteban is intrigued by his big, bad neighbor. He likes how his matchmaking cat brings out an unexpected caring side of Russ. Desire flares as the reasons to continue their ruse pile up for both men.

And pretending feels so good. From chocolaty kisses to late night cuddles, their burgeoning friendship is getting cozier and cozier. But as the end date for their little deception looms, all the real feelings they’ve tried to ignore come tumbling in. Each must decide whether they have what it takes to ring in the New Year as a couple.

Mr. Right Now is a stand-alone holiday novella with sweet, low-angst feels, spicy love scenes, and foodie inspired, quirky Oregon romance with a military flavor. Happy ending guaranteed with no cliffhangers!

Review

This is the perfect Fake relationship trope story, I like that they stumble into it and not plan in as a scheme of some sort. Russ and Esteban have this easy friendship that gets better the more time they spend together. I also enjoyed how, despite them making plans to ‘break up’, they keep getting pushed back, until they realize this had become much more then pretend.
Russ was my favorite character, he’s doing some big life changes and I could relate to that. He’s going after his dreams, figuring out what he wants, and that includes Esteban. Never giving up and going for it even when it’s out of his comfort zone. He inspires me to dream nigger, do better.

They are both well rounded characters for such a short story, with specific interests, tastes and personalities. Annabeth puts her unique touch into every story, with military heroes I always enjoy reading about. Also, there was just enough heat to keep satisfied, even though I would love more, but in a novella you have to balance every story component.
Sweet HEA, Romantic with just the right amount of taste for more, Mr. Right Now is the perfect Christmas Romance to bring a smile and warmth to your heart this holiday season.

Is it really wrong to want to murder your boss?

Dylan has worked for Gabe for two years. Two long years of sarcastic comments. Two long years of insults, and having to redo the coffee pot four times in the mornings to meet his exacting standards.

Not surprisingly he has devoted a lot of time to increasingly inventive ways to murder Gabe. From stabbing him with a cake fork, to garrotting him with his expensive tie, Dylan has thought of everything.

However, a chance encounter opens his eyes to the attraction that has always lain between them, concealed by the layers of antipathy. There are only two problems – Gabe is still a bastard, and he makes wedding planners look like hardened pessimists.

But what happens when Dylan starts to see the real Gabe? What happens when he starts to fall in love with the warm, wary man that he sees glimpses of as the days pass?

Because Gabe is still the same commitment shy, cold man that he’s always been, or is he? Has Dylan had the same effect on Gabe, and has his solid gold rule of no commitment finally been broken? With his heart taken Dylan desperately needs to know, but will he get hurt trying to find the answers?

From the author of ‘The Summer of Us’ comes another scorchingly hot romantic comedy, showing what happens between two men when rules get broken.

Review

This book was very funny, the banter between the characters witty and addicting. The attraction between Gabe and Dylan ran deep and I liked the build of it as well as the e-mail correspondence that started every chapter that really showed their humor. When I was reading this book in e-book format I had a hard time liking it about halfway through, and in the audio I liked it much better.
I think my one main issue is Gabe, even though I understand why he is the way he is its too hard for me to like him. In the end, despite the romance and sweet ending I feel like Gabe went too far and lost my affection.
Dylan on the other hand, is so likable, and caring. I really enjoyed his character and the way he evolved in the book. His family is funny, and have that ‘real’ feel of authenticity I like in books- with each member being quirky and unique.
The narration by Joel Leslie is fantastic, it’s as if Dylan was tailored to fit him, I can easily imagine him as Dylan. He does great accent work, making each character shine and ramped up the humor. He was a great choice to narrate this book and, like I said, the audio was a much better reading experience for me then the printed version.

Geek Life: Book Three

When best friends Brenden and Dakota launch the biggest comics and pop-culture convention of their careers, they finally realize what everyone around them already knows: they’ve been in love for years.

Now what are they going to do about it?

Meticulously organized Brenden Wade and easygoing Dakota Nye turned their love of geek culture into a business, running conventions all over the Chesapeake Bay area. Now the weight of their pasts is threatening not only their friendship but their dream. Brenden fears losing his foster family when his secrets come out, and though the last thing Dakota wants is to hurt his plus one, he doesn’t know if he’s capable of settling down.

One night of passion challenges both men’s preconceptions and forces them to evaluate what they want from the future. They’re both scared, and though they’ve always been able to figure out anything together, hearts are on the line. Will taking a chance on romance lead to a beautiful disaster, or just a disaster?

Review

I have to start with the fact I simply ADORE this series! I started with book #2 and even though Labbe changes POV every chapter and some of them are side characters (that are the MCs in the other books in the series) these books can totally be read as stand alones- but why not read them all, they are so good! I also like how the plots are a bit interlocked together, while still keeping each book a complete piece and never giving you the feeling like you are missing something because it happens in another book.

For those with someone geeky in their lives, of geeks themselves this series is painfully honest and real. I love how authentic the characters feel, and the relationships between them all. Add to that the complexity of geek culture and how it’s described are both unique and interesting. As a geek myself with many friends in the geek community I really enjoyed how the author chose to portray geek life in these books. Someone who is totally put off by geeks might not like these books as much, as they do revolve around it quite a bit, but I personally find it one of most appealing things about them.

This book tics so many boxes for me, with one of my favorite troupes in it, friends to lovers. Dakota and Brenden have so much history between them, and you feel it with every word they say- this is why I love friends to lovers, it has a base from which the relationship grows. Here in particular the base is wide and the bonds connecting the two strong. I was also waiting for them to get their book ever since I read book #2, and then #1, were you get some glimpses into their lives and the underlining attraction and love between them. Dakota and Brenden have been a long way coming into this, and boy is the explosion between them good.

I also love banter, an author can win me over with some good bantering, and Brenden bantering with Dakota is one of the best things in the entire book series.
The only things I would like more about these books is extra sex scenes (because they are so hot!) and just more stories. It seems like book #3 is the last one as we didn’t get more side characters taking the wheel to clue us in, but I have hope.

Recent Release: The Captive Incubus (Immortal Mates #2) by Liv Rider

Good Reads
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/45303728-the-captive-incubus

Blurb

A snarky incubus. A warlock with a secret.
Bound together by a magic they can’t break.

Shay

Casual sex has always been enough to satisfy Shay. Who needs more when humans provide such a gluttony of pleasure? He might find big, blond, warlock Alex attractive, but that’s definitely all it is—especially since Alex is the one holding him captive for a band of bloodthirsty vampires. All the sexual tension in the world can’t make up for his loss of freedom. Right?

Alex

It should have been easy: capture and bind a demon, then collect his payment from the vampires. He has his own problems to deal with. All he wants is for the vampires to take Shay off his hands and to get the incubus out of his head. Shay might be the sexiest demon he’s ever seen, but a warlock should be able to resist temptation. Right?

But the magic binding them together has other ideas. It’s getting harder to hold out from giving in to what they both want—especially since they have a common cause after all. But can they overcome all the protections around their hearts to let themselves fall for real?

The Captive Incubus is an m/m paranormal romance between an incubus and a warlock with a HEA and no cliffhangers. It’s the second book in the Immortal Mates series, but can be read as a standalone.

Review

This was both really fun and fascinating, but also kind of “all over the place”. I did not read (or remember) book 1, and I’m sure some of this would have been more resonant had I done that. The 2 MCs from book 1 play roles in this, though more on the periphery, I still think having read the first book would have helped shaped this story line.

I loved the naiveté that Alex shows juxtaposed with the jaded demon, Shay. The magic was awesome but I wanted to see more of Shay’s “powers” at work.

There was a LOT of waffling and some really random sex scenes. I loved that our guys spend most of the book in close proximity but I wanted to see them – at least for a little bit – out of danger to get a feel for them in the long term. Right now, I have a hard time buying their HEA.

I was really intrigued by Alex’s sister’s story and I hope we get to see more of her. The tid bit at the end leading into what is obviously book 3 looks great, too!

All in all this was fun and sexy and a little sweet.
