Blurb

Explosive action, bullets flying, heroes, villains, and love, you don’t want to miss this next installment in Reese Knightley’s Out for Justice series. Read Ricochet and Collide before diving into the next story!

-Rampage –
Three strong, independent, and protective badasses are on the cusp of romance when tragedy and disaster come at them like a landslide. While they chase down a sex trafficking kingpin with a devious plan, life throws one challenge after another in their path.
Grumpy Phoenix sniper, Storm, wears a perpetual frown to keep others at bay. There’s a reason they call him stormy, which has nothing to do with the color of his eyes. He equates communicating with people to chewing on glass. It’s not that he doesn’t want to connect, it’s just that he sucks at it.
Easygoing FBI Agent Roscoe Burns navigates an unexpected tragedy that sends his comfortable world in a tailspin right when he’s found what he wants in life. But then, sometimes life has a way of providing the extraordinary.
Spirited Phoenix tracker, Wild, is reeling from a past he thought he’d left behind. When a golden chance for something greater emerges, his propensity to overthink things might just ruin his chances.
Storm, Roscoe, and Wild flirt around a burning attraction as Phoenix continues the fight against crime. Communication, tailspins, and tragic pasts are just some of the things these men will need to face when death comes knocking. Can three strong men survive the trials they face or will history destroy them all?

*Note from author – Rampage is not a standalone novel. To get the full enjoyment out of the story and characters, reading from book one is strongly recommended. Trigger warning: Human trafficking, mention of child abuse and murder

Review

This one I both liked as much as and less than book 1.
I thought the romance was great – BUT – I did NOT see the connection between all 3 guys. I could see it between any set of 2 of them, but I did not see why they HAD to be a triad. It just didn’t feel organic in the way that you hope to see triads develop.

There were times when I thought Roscoe was an afterthought, and I didn’t like that.

The crime/mystery stuff is a HUGE part of this and the wide array of characters can be dizzying.

You have to read these all in order and even then it’s a bit much to keep track of everything.

Overall, I enjoyed it – but I didn’t love it.

Retro Review: Collide (Out for Justice #2) by Reese Knightley

Blurb

Ex hacker Seth O’Leary enjoys the hell out of being part of an elite team of operatives known only as Phoenix. In fact, he’s pretty much made it his whole life. When things go horribly wrong with his deadbeat boyfriend, Seth is surprised to find help coming from an unexpected source. The man he’s secretly fantasized about for years finally takes notice. Asher Grayson, code name Frost, is everything that Seth wants in a man but the player is gun shy about relationships. What will it take to capture the man’s icy heart?

Phoenix operative, Frost, thought he had it all figured out. Scratch an itch with the newly single and hot Seth O’Leary and the craving would be over. Best laid plans and all that, Seth gets under his skin like nobody ever has and without warning Frost finds he can’t seem to walk away so easily. Which is completely out of character for him. He doesn’t ‘do’ relationships because of his past. So, the question remains, will he let long-ago events drive him away from the best thing that has ever happened to him?

Mix in tragic turn of events and ruthless acts of violence, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. With evil forces hell bent on destruction, the pair are on a collision course that leaves them reeling. Will Frost get a chance to step up and be the kind of man Seth can respect or will a madman end any chance for a happily ever after?

*Collide is book two in Reese Knightley’s Out for Justice series. To get the most out of the variety of characters and storyline you may want to first read Ricochet, book one.

Author trigger warning: Violence.

Review

I didn’t enjoy this as much as book 1. The relationship between Seth and Frost is more tenuous and there was a lot of time when I didn’t really like Frost all that much and thought Seth put up with way too much crap.

The crime/mystery stuff occupies a LOT of this and maybe, since I wasn’t as into the couple, it bothered me more.

I enjoyed it, but less.

I had missed this series when it came out in e-books. Wow! I LOVED this. It had danger and intrigue and an amazing sweet and HOT love story.

It’s about over coming childhood trauma and falling in love – even though you shouldn’t – and finding long lost loves again.

It’s heavy on the crime story/mystery – so be prepared. But – the love story is still the main focus IMHO.

Tristan James is amazing – as usual – and was a joy to listen to.

Highly recommended!

Holiday Review: Christmas According to Liam (According to Liam #2) by V.L. Locey

Good Reads

Blurb

First Christmas as Mr. & Mr.

What a magical and romantic time for newlyweds. Unfortunately, Bryn and Mike won’t be spending Christmas Eve cuddled up alone in front of a fire roasting chestnuts. They’ve been unexpectedly called upon to play Santa for Mike’s precocious nephew, Liam, when his mother and her boyfriend are called out of state to attend a funeral. It should be easy to make this holiday a special one despite the unforeseen upset, right? All it will take is love, laughter, a little romance, lots of hugs, and a heaping helping of patience when Old Kris Kringle leaves the easy assembly for someone else.

Review

While this was cute, it didn’t have the “amazing” factor for me that the original did.

It’s worth a read if you enjoyed book 1.

What happens when a snarky hit man and a by-the-book PI cross paths?
Leland
Being a hit man has its perks, but I never thought getting an accidental mooning by an attractive PI while he’s caught on a fence would be one of them. While it’s not exactly love at first sight, he’s captured my interest and won’t let go.
Suddenly, I find myself caught in a game of cat and mouse, determined to attract the attention of Jackson, the PI who should be my enemy. He pretends like he’s not flattered by my flowers and the mentions of my totally-not-fictitious blow-up doll, Randy (or was it Dandy?), but I know better. Why else would he be teaming up with me to bring down Hardek, one of the city’s most ruthless criminals?
Jackson
Even though the cops are telling me that the hit man is a notorious contract killer, I can’t help but admit that I’m drawn to him. He’s funny, charismatic, and attractive. There’s no way this ridiculous man can be the person the cops are after.
But when Leland ends up at my doorstep injured, I’m faced with a tough choice. It’s my duty to hand him over to law enforcement, but my heart has other plans. I want to keep him. To protect him. To be with him.
Though one question remains: Why in the world does the man have so many d*mn guns?
Contains: shenanigans on a swing that you would not find at a playground, a car chase that sadly doesn’t have flips or explosions, a horsey ride sans horse, cuddles, an exuberant mutt, a suspicious chief of police, and lots and lots of laughs.

Review
This is really fun and funny and the narrator is awesome!

I wasn’t as much of a fan of the romance as I was the characters.

If you’re in the mood for something not quite as romantic as comedic – this is for you!

Adair was tired of waiting. He knew he had a mate, although they’d never met, and his waiting wasn’t made any easier watching Tobias snuggling close with his two mates. He’d thought a lot of the smaller wolf at one time.
All he had was the company of his two brothers and endless patrols trying to keep the Cloverleah pack lands safe. A trip to Claude’s with his brothers one night has some unexpected but pleasant consequences, and after an initial misunderstanding, Adair is suddenly thrust into the world of magic and the demands of a relationship.
Vassago’s never had a chance to be proud of who he was. As the second son of the king of the djinn and being a lot smaller than his father or brother, Vassago spent a lot of time on the human realm, avoiding his family and those who had nothing better to do than bully him.
After spending a horrible nine months trapped in Jake Poindexter’s body, he knew he had to find his potestatem before he could claim his mate. Unfortunately, that was easier said than done. When help is offered, he’s hesitant to take it, but the lure of finally being in his mate’s arms was too strong to ignore.
The troubles hitting Cloverleah are falling thick and fast. Insane plans of wiping out all paranormal life isn’t confined to a few errant humans. It’ll take the steadfast nature of a wolf shifter who still has a habit of saying the wrong thing and the magic of a djinn who’s struggling to believe in himself before these two will find their HEA.
Please note: The book contains M/M adult content. If this isn’t your preference, please don’t buy. Each book in the Cloverleah Pack series can be listened to as a stand-alone. However, to fully appreciate the relationships between secondary characters, it might be wise to listen to the other books in the series in order.

Review

OOOOO I love Vassago!

While it looked like Vassago might have been a sneaky, almost bad-guy in the last book, we find out that he’s really, really not. He’s super sweet and very misunderstood in his own world and amazingly powerful.

Adair, if anything, seems to follow the Kane “Stick my foot in my mouth at every turn” pattern and ends up making Vassago mad more often than not. However, both these guys end up being really sweet together – as you’d expect.

There’s a lot of fun “powers” in this – djinn can do almost anything really – and that was a great addition to the Cloverleah pack. (The markings Adair gets are hysterical!)

It was great seeing Luke and Kurt and Tobias again – as well as the other couples. I really like Vadim and we got to see a lot of him, as well.

This was another great addition to the series with a few surprises and lots of magic!

Blurb
Shifter and Vampire True Mates story.

Alek’s older brother, Justice—the Alpha Zenith—was the first shifter to mate with a vampire in many generations, and it was believed the rare, fated pairing would stop at him. But, it hadn’t. Aleksei ‘Alek’ Volkov was second beta, next in succession to the most powerful shifter in the world. He was proud of his title and he took his duties seriously. It was all he had. Until his true mate literally showed up on his doorstep.

While his brother—the overachiever—excelled at having a vampire as a mate, Alek wasn’t that optimistic he would. He wasn’t averse to love, and he’d often thought of how different his life could’ve turned out if he’d ever experienced the emotion. His life was a mess and he’d worn a mask of stability for a majority of that time, only showing his siblings and pack what they needed to see—a strong Volkov alpha. Not the damaged man he was, with a tortured soul and a rogue wolf.

Alek dropped his heavy head in his hands. Now, for some reason, I’ve been granted a true vampire mate. And not just any vampire. The intimidating Belleron Liatos. Lord High to the King and the leader of his army.

Belleron ‘Bell’ Liatos had come to the states for one reason—his best friend and Vampire King, Chadwick Bentley. He certainly didn’t come to be pounced on by a wolf that could act independently of its master. Not only was his destined cherished a complicated and confused man; but he was also unaware of the powerful presence that lurked in the shadows of his soul. Bell didn’t know he’d be the key to unlocking an exceptional triad that would play a critical role in fulfilling the prophesy.

This story DOES NOT contain or even mention MPREG.
No multiple pairings. No cliffhangers. Ends with a very HFN.

Warning: This book is M/M paranormal: If you DO NOT like alpha men shifting into large wolves, or vampires feeding from their destined beloveds, than this may not be the novel for you.

Review

I love this series and I love this book! I don’t have enough superlatives to explain how much, but the world building is fantastic. Just enough uniqueness to make it stand out in the world of paranormal romance, but enough familiar themes to keep a die-hard fan like me appeased.

There were times when I definitely felt like this should be labeled as a ménage, I should warn you, however. The character building is so strong that the “beasts” inside Alec take on their own personalities and the way the author describes their interaction with one another and with Bell sometimes felt like separate beings at times… a lot of the time.

I found the explanation for Alec’s situation really well done and the way Bell manages him and his issues was also really good. I also loved that Bell never felt as “submissive” to Alec as I maybe sometimes felt with Wick and Justice.

There is a TON of smexy times, but definitely less than book 1 – which for me – was a good thing.

After having listened to book 1 on audio I can say I hope the author uses the same narrator and I can’t wait for it to make it to audio!

I think you need to read book 1 to really appreciate this, but I bet it’s fine as a standalone if you haven’t.

(I didn’t feel this was an HFN, FWIW – it felt very complete to me.)

Highly recommended!

Atlanta’s notorious narcotics task force is at it again. They are stronger, bigger, and better than ever. Especially when a city councilman sends RECON Marine Edwin Steele – who’s been blacklisted from his Oakland department – to join the team.
Steele was ready to hang up his shield. He was done fighting with bigoted bastards that couldn’t respect the job. He was good at fighting; he just needed the right team to fight with. When his uncle – City Councilman Rasmus Steele – shows him a video of God’s team in action, he knows right away it’s where his nephew belongs in order to restore his faith.
Steele was skeptical about his new placement, but when he meets God’s technology specialist/computer genius, “Tech”, he’s willing to give it his all, and he definitely shows and proves.
Tech is stunning. His sweater vest and khakis, a stark contrast to the blue-jeaned roughnecks he works with. A beautiful sheep amongst the wolves. Steel thinks there’s no way the brilliant man would be interested in a hardhead like him, but Tech has a few badass hidden talents of his own and manages to surprise him…surprise all of them.
Contains mature themes.

Review

This is book five in the series and I don’t think it’d be great as a stand-alone. It technically could be, but OH MAN you’d have missed so much!

In fact, it’s best if you’ve read all the previous four including You Can See Me because there’s a part that involve Pres, Rick and Blair too! (OMG there’s a part with Blair and Furi…. Just OMG – and no – no cheating or anything like that but it’s HOT!)

What I love so much about this series is the juxtaposition between brains and brawn. All the guys, even Ruxs and Green are smart, sensitive but very manly men.

Tech is a great addition to the coupled up crowd. He’s so lonely at the beginning and it was wonderful to see him fall for Steele, pretty much right away and vice versa.

There’s a bit of strife in this but only a little with Steele and Tech, some for God and Day and some for Pres and his partners.

Almost as much about Tech and Steele, this is a book about God and Day so that’s why I say this is definitely best read in order. If you’re a fan of the series you’ll ADORE what’s in store for God and Day!

There’s also great stuff with all the guys! (The scene with Ruxs and Green in the morning – that’s some the stuff I love the most from the author!) AE Via always provides the feels with the smexy times and exciting action sequences as well.

I love how super hero ish they are and how they clean up modern day metropolis (Atlanta) but have to deal with paperwork after. At least nobody is fighting them anymore on the inside.

I think this is the best edited book I’ve seen from her as I found no noticeable typos etcetera. I also think it’s one of the better books in terms of writing, too.

I highly recommend this to fans of the series, and to any fans of alpha males, police romances and good, ol’ fashioned hot men gettin’ it on!

(I cannot wait for Free and Hart’s story – I’m sure it’s gonna be Hart, right? – it sounds amazing already!)

Audio

I love Aiden Snow’s narrations.  He has such a delicious voice and he does a tremendous job with all the various characters.  Highly recommended!

Fortunate timing means that Ryker and Jacob can spend a few days together over Christmas in a cabin on the family farm. Ryker can’t imagine a better way to spend time with the man he loves, and the friends he misses, and somehow he knows that this Christmas will be the best one ever. Long distance relationships are brutal, Jacob can attest to that fact. So, when Ryker gets a few days off over the Raptors’ Christmas break, the hard-working Minnesota farmer is beyond thrilled. When they find out that their buddies from Owatonna U. are making the trip as well, the holidays are looking to be just about perfect.
