Blurb
Bay has had his fair share of hardships, as brother to the Alpha of the Silver Tip Pack. He almost died when a usurper took the opportunity the alpha was away on a rescue mission to try and take over. Upon his brother’s return he discovers the one person he cannot forget, his best friend Nash, was still alive all these years after he disappeared when they were boys. The news is as unsettling as the fact Nash has been lost again, with no hope of returning, sacrificing his life to buy Dare and his team time to get back to safety when the Noweres attacked.

Now Bay is restless, choosing to go outside the safety of their compound for Reese’s long though dead tribe. New intel says there are possible survivors there and Dare. As alpha, must see if they can be allied with, for the sake of his mate. Bay expects to find some lost wolves barely hanging on and not the small, yet strong, community who is more that capable to defend itself. And he was not expecting to find Nash again, after mourning him twice and giving up any shred of hope, the one person he has always loved. But the years Nash was away have damaged his body and soul, and unlocking the secrets of his past might lead to an enemy much worse than the Undead Noweres and their single minded need to kill.

Review
This was a book I was anxiously anticipating after book one, and Nash and Bay’s story was as thrilling and emotional as it was hot. I loved the expansion of the world Megan created with the addition of Reese’s tribe and their leader Pace. I also adored how intricately she wrote Nash’s back story, it’s raw and sad but also adds a whole new dimension and a ruthless enemy for our group of heroes. We also get a look as how they live in this dystopian future after all the humans died in the virus and the Noweres appeared.
Bay and Nash share an unbreakable bond, one that time and pain could not erode, and the Friends-to-Lovers theme is strong in this book. The added bonus of the shifter dynamics, the pack bond between them makes their love almost visceral. Nash has been found and is slowly getting his strength back, but the past scars he carries are deep and he keeps pushing Bay away. Bay, the fun loving optimist that he is, doesn’t let him get too far despite his attempts of running away. They are fun to read about with an air of longing in every touch and moment between them, and they are smoldering hot together.
When Nash’s fate in those lost years is revealed Dare has to reevaluate the world he lives in and what he thought to be facts. Nash is not the only one holding secrets, Pace has some of his own and in order to survive they have to work together and trust each other, not an easy feat when testosterone and egos are at play. I loved them so much, especially when the horrors of Nash’s live are discovered. You just feel so much for him, for all of them really- thrust in a cruel violent future fighting against bloodthirsty monsters and evil beyond human comprehension.
This book is almost like a detective story, were you gather tidbits of information and try to put the puzzle pieces together. I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series, an MMF according to Megan’s FB group post and more of this world.

Talker’s Redemption (Book 2) by Amy Lane

TalkersRedemptionLgBlurb

Tate Walker’s past is too painful to just disappear, even if his dream boy, Brian Cooper, is there to hold his hand. Brian does his best, but Talker-always good at avoiding his own pain-is having a hard time facing the truth about what happened when he trusted the wrong man at the wrong time. When that truth resurfaces and lands Brian in the hospital, Talker is forced to make a choice. He can either confront every demon in his fragile, bleeding heart, or he can let Brian take the heat for him, just like he has from the beginning. But even Talker knows you don’t leave your dream boy alone and undefended when he just saved your life, and he’ll have to find the strength to take care of Brian when Brian needs him the most.

Review

Tate and Brian are finally together as boyfriends, but all is not bliss.

Neither Tate nor Brian are ready to let go or embrace fully the past and it keeps them from their future.

It takes an act of violence to rip the truth free, but it’s worth it… right?

**

Oh Amy. She likes to make her boys work for their happiness, doesn’t she. Well, Tate and Brian absolutely earn their HEA.

Brian has to do what his soul calls of him – protect Tate at all costs. All costs.

Tate, who still can’t quite believe in Brian and his goodness doesn’t see what happens. But he can’t keep his head in the sand indefinitely.

Unlike many books in a series – the first could be read and appreciated and finished. Add in book two and a feeling of completion exists here as well. (Fast forward to book three and you see the story really wasn’t finished, but you wouldn’t know that if you didn’t read book three…) In other series I’ve either felt the books HAD to be read to finish the story or the sequels were just add ons to give more depth. This series feels absolutely finished with each book but absolutely enriched by the addition of the next.

Amy is a master storyteller and these boys are some of her best work. There are so many layers to each of them and yet at their core they’re simply two boys looking for security and love.

I loved this series so much and each book only makes that more true.

Any Closer by Mary Calmes

AnyCloserLgBlurb

Part of the First Time For Everything Daily Dose 2011 collection

Charlie Ryder has a colorful past, painful memories, and an embarrassing secret. After three years working for Leo Foster’s construction company, Charlie’s worst fears are realized, and Leo finds out what Charlie has worked so hard to hide. When Leo meets the revelation with absolute love and acceptance, Leo has to trust that Charlie’s love isn’t just gratitude, and Charlie has to learn to trust again, period. It’s going to take a lot of work for these two men to get any closer.

Review

Leo is the foreman of a construction crew with an employee, Charlie. Charlie started out with Leo three years ago, a scared, tentative soul who has slowly blossomed over time and is now one of Leo’s close friends.

One of Leo’s exes blows into town telling stories about Charlie’s past, making Charlie confess not just his past, but his present and hopefully future.

Leo is a clueless, golden-hearted man who seems to have no idea that Charlie’s been crushing on him for awhile now. Charlie sees Leo as safe in a world where he knows only pain and betrayal.

When Leo proves again that he can be trusted, Charlie finally makes his move.

**
I love these “super sweet, clueless men get the good guy end the end” type stories. Mary is wonderful for giving us these MCs who are almost too good to be true, but since they seem a little bit dense about it, they are utterly charming.

I loved how sweet Charlie was with Leo and how Leo made him feel safe and secure, regardless of his past.

It was a fun book to re-visit and I recommend as a lovely re-read to her fans, and if this is your first time reading this story you are in a for a treat! My only complaint is that I wish it were longer 🙂

Signs of Life (Resilient Love Book 2) by Melanie Hansen

SignsofLifeLGBlurb

A Resilient Love Story

Successful lawyer Jeremy Speer has it all—a loving husband, a beautiful home, and a cherished dream that’s about to become reality. He’s learned not to take happiness for granted, meeting the challenges of life and love head-on with unwavering commitment and fierce devotion. A series of tragic events leave Jeremy shattered, adrift on a sea of unimaginable pain. He’s able to piece his life back together, but instead of embracing it, he merely exists, using isolation and punishing physical exertion to keep the world at bay.

High school teacher Kai Daniels has a heart for at-risk kids—he was one himself, and a teenage brush with the law and some troubled years behind bars left him scarred inside and out. With courage, hard work, and the support of friends, he’s built a fulfilling life that leaves no time for a relationship.

An intense encounter with Kai at a gay club ignites a spark in Jeremy that he thought was extinguished forever, but he’s unwilling to destroy the fragile peace he’s managed to create, and he leaves Kai humiliated and disappointed. Things should have ended there, but a bizarre occurrence brings the two together in a way neither of them expected.
