Recent Release: Escape (Rebellion #1) by Annabelle Jacobs

Good reads

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/47185989-escape?from_search=true

Blurb

This isn’t the life Cole dreamt of, but what choice does he have?

With his twenty-third birthday behind him, Cole Moreton now faces the shifter compatibility test which will decide his future. Testing positive means joining a pack and eventually taking the bite. Unfortunately, with enviable skills in self-defence and hand-to-hand combat, the kind of packs interested in him aren’t any he’d want to join.

Logan has been a member of the McKillan pack for most of his life. Pack is family and loyalty is everything, but when the shifter government turns out to be no better than the oppressive humans before them, he questions everything.

Right from their first meeting, Logan knows that a life with the McKillan pack isn’t right for Cole, but with his alpha taking a keen interest in Cole’s skills, Logan’s hands are tied. Mutual attraction builds between them, but acting on it is futile—helping Cole will put their lives at risk and an end to any future they could’ve had.

Review

Annabelle Jacobs excels at world-building and she has yet again imagined an incredible, even if a bit scary, shifter universe. Wolf packs rule England through (abuse of) power and coercion, equality between humans and shifters seemingly an impossible dream.

This is very much a suspense driven story, action-filled and brilliantly paced. The romance storyline builds up slowly in a threatening environment that isn’t conducive to it, still the growing emotional bond and passionate chemistry between Cole and Logan is unmistakable and enthralling.

Cole is determined not to be forced to join a pack or change into a shifter, but his choices, as those of every human, have been taken away. He finds help, unlikely and unexpected, in Logan, the very shifter send to recruit him. There’s no insta-love or mating instinct in this universe, so no easy or quick trick to make the MC’s fall in love. They actually get to know each other first before falling head over heels in love. I love how determined and brave Logan is, how respectful of Cole’s wishes even in extremely dire circumstances. Cole is also a wonderful MC, adapting to new circumstances with alacrity and very courageous himself when it comes down to it.

We leave Cole and Logan on the brink of a dangerous future, ready to face all the challenges and possible heartbreak that comes with fighting for a better world… The start of a rebellion.

I can’t wait to see what’s next for them and their friends!

Recent Release: Kel’s Keeper by K.C. Wells

Good reads

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/47316064-kel-s-keeper

Blurb

When Kel Taylor’s life changes irrevocably, he finds himself alone in the world. He might have rebelled a little against his parents, but that didn’t mean he was ready to lose them. Unable to cope with his grief and feelings of guilt, he turns to booze, but before he hits rock bottom, someone dives into the murky waters to save him.

Luc Bryant watched Kel grow from the little kid whose football broke a pane in his greenhouse, into the sexy young man who sent heat racing through him. That was when Luc stopped watching and distanced himself, because he didn’t want to be that kind of a man. And that’s how things continued, until he saw to what depths the boy had sunk. Luc will be damned if he’ll let Kel kill himself. What Kel needs is a friend, and Luc’s shoulders are plenty big enough to bear his burdens.

Kel doesn’t need a friend. He needs a pair of strong arms to hold him, a broad chest to curl up against, someone to listen to him, someone who cares for him… and a whole lot more.
What he needs is a Daddy.
He just doesn’t know it yet.

Review

As the gorgeous cover promises, this book gives us a very intimate and sensual portrayal of a loving May/December relationship. The attraction between Kel and Luc is a longstanding one and simmers beneath the surface of their every interaction. Theirs is very much a slow-burn story with the author taking the time to build a solid foundation for this wonderful couple and to subtly, ever so gradually, set up the daddy/boy dynamic (no ageplay). That aspect of their relationship grows stronger and more pronounced as the story unfolds, bringing with it both amazingly sweet and tender moments as well as scorchingly hot ones. Hot and deliciously dirty.

I loved reading such a realistic portrayal of a daddy/boy relationship for once, it had all the hoped for steam (boy, did it ever!), with the added bonus of an expertly crafted love story between two amazing, well-rounded MC’s. What I also really loved about this book, is that Kel is such a strong person in his own right, Luc’s shoulder to lean on when he needs one, and even the initiator of several key moments in their relationship.

There is so much (unspoken) longing in this story, in part because Luc is determined not to impose his own desires on Kel, protective of his boy even to his own detriment. And perhaps he’s also a bit scared Kel will want no part of it. Luckily though, Kel grows to understand Luc’s true desires and the truth of their dynamic on his own, making the sweetest romantic gesture to show his lover how perfect they are for each other.

Luc is the ultimate daddy, a carer through and through, not just for the sake of kinkiness in the bedroom, but the real deal. Swoon… I loved how he put Kel first and looked out for him at every opportunity, even before they started sleeping together, without ulterior motives.

To conclude: this is a story to savor and re-read. Definitely a keeper 😉

Recent Release: HEEL by K.M. Neuhold

Good reads

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/47225307-heel?from_search=true

Blurb
“I’ve never thought of calling a man Daddy before, but I can’t think of a word that fits Vale better. He’s my Daddy, and I’m his pup.”

Broken and bruised, there’s nothing I won’t do to protect Adrian. I picked him up and made him whole before, and I’ll do it again. Adrian is a sweet pup with a smile full of sunshine and a heart made for love. A sweet pup needs a gentle hand, and that’s exactly what I intend to give him.

There’s nothing quite like slipping an expensive pair of high heels onto Adrian’s feet and watching him light up. If he wants a fairytale, I’ll happily be his Prince Charming.

*** Heel is the second book in the Working Out the Kinks series but can be read as a stand-alone. This book contains a scene of domestic violence. This book also contains an adorable man who loves to be a puppy, fabulous high heels, and the happily ever after Adrian deserves.

Review:
Adrian has had enough abuse and in fear of his life he runs from an abusive alpha. While he recuperates from his latest injuries he stays with his good friends and soon finds himself enjoying some time with the one alpha he has always wanted. Vale once again finds himself once again helping Adrian get on his feet. This time he has no excuse to push the man away. As the two spend more time together their feelings grow deeper. Can Vale and Adrian find a way to their happy ever after or will they let it slip through their fingers again?
This story is a sweet romance that gives readers the power of true love. Adrian and Val were meant to be together the attraction between them has been there since they first met. The two are perfect together, Val is just the kind of man Adrian needs in his life. I enjoyed watching the dymanics of their relationship play out and see it become so strong and beautiful. It was nice to see Adrian find his way again after dealing with so much in his life. Trust is a big factor in this story, and it was nice seeing Val work hard to show Adrian that he is a man that he can trust with not only his body but his heart as well. The hard work and friendship that the two men share makes for a wonderful and heartwarming read.

Recent Release: Gazes Into You by Alex Jane

Good Reads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34880901-gazes-into-you?ac=1&from_search=true

Blurb:

Ex-detective John Right likes to watch.
There’s no harm in it.

The latest object of his obsession—a twenty-something stranger who chains his bike outside John’s office—doesn’t feel the weight of John’s eyes on him, doesn’t know about the secret recordings or what John does with them in the dead of night. Except when the kid disappears, John finds himself doing far more that just watching.

Reluctantly, John has to start thinking like a cop once more as he frantically tries to track down his mystery man. Although when he finds him, John is left with more questions than answers. And the more he learns, the more he wishes he’d never started looking in the first place.
Can John get to the bottom of the mystery without giving away his own dirty secret? And without giving in to his urge to do more than simply watch?

Well…nobody’s perfect.

Review:

The story has an interesting premise: John, a former detective, works as a security guard; he also happens to be a voyeur. I was a tad put off by this at the beginning of the story, especially as he watches Jason and pleasures himself to Jason’s images. But when Jason disappears, I had to find out what happened to him (and see if John’s character could be redeemed).
When John tracks Jason down (at a hospital), the mystery really begins. Who wants Jason dead and why? John transforms into Jason’s protector and, as their friendship develops into more, his lover.

The story has good bones and the secondary characters were interesting, (especially Chris), but it needed to be edited a little better. There were missing words, misplaced commas and other punctuation issues; enough to pull me out of the story at times.
Overall, the story was good, and I would read the next book in the series.

Recent Release: Milo (Finding Home #2) by Lily Morton

Good Reads

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43971325-milo?ac=1&from_search=true

Blurb: Once upon a time a brave knight rescued a young man. Unfortunately, he then spent the next few years bossing the young man around and treating him like a child.
Milo has been burying himself at Chi an Mor, hiding from the wreckage of his once promising career and running from a bad relationship that destroyed what little confidence he had. Niall, his big brother’s best friend, has been there for him that entire time. An arrogant and funny man, Niall couldn’t be any more different from the shy and occasionally stuttering Milo, which has never stopped Milo from crushing wildly on the man who saved him.

However, just as Milo makes the decision to move on from his hopeless crush, he and Niall are thrown into close contact, and for the first time ever Niall seems to be returning his interest. But it can never work. How can it when Milo always needs rescuing?
From the bestselling author of the Mixed Messages series comes a story about a man who needs to write his own happily ever after.

Review:
This is another Lily Morton story that ticked all my boxes: snark/banter, engaging characters Niall and Milo and seeing friends like Silas, Oz (although kind of hard not to see the latter seeing as both MCs work for Silas ☺ )

But this story has a bit more of a hurt/comfort theme, although still quite funny.
Milo was always seen as a shy type, especially because he had a speech impediment as a child. Being in an abusive relationship also compounded that. Once he was able to escape that – Niall to the rescue – he started to show his true self; a sassy/pert, quick-witted and stronger-than-given-credit-for young man.
Niall is Milo’s older brother’s (Gideon) friend and occasional hook-up. At first, all Niall sees is the little brother that needs rescuing, but as Milo grows in confidence and snark (the latter thanks to Oz), he starts to notice that Milo is all man, grown up man, at that!
My heart stuttered for Milo when Gideon showed up unannounced, but they start to resolve their somewhat strained relationship and Niall makes it clear that his hookup arrangement is over. Niall learns that in order to have Milo, he has to let him go on to be independent.
Overall, I loved this addition to the series ☺
I highly recommend this story.

Recent Release: Intoxicating (Elite Protection Services Book 1) by Onley James

Good Reads

Link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/46393099-intoxicating?ac=1&from_search=true

Blurb:
Lincoln Hudson has just been handed the easiest job in the world. Babysit the spoiled son of a conservative senator, keep him out of trouble, and receive a six-figure paycheck, a paycheck he desperately needs. Wyatt’s father claims he needs Linc’s firm hand and discipline. One look at him and Linc agrees. Wyatt needs discipline.
Being the closeted gay son of a family values senator has left Wyatt Edgeworth with a reckless streak and a love of partying that just cost him eight months of his life and might cost his father his re-election. So now he has a babysitter. A very sexy babysitter.
When Wyatt drunkenly tells Linc he’d make an excellent Daddy, they reach an understanding. Wyatt gets a Daddy and Linc gets a paycheck, then they go their separate ways. For this to work, discretion is key, but with a reporter dogging Wyatt’s every move, that might prove impossible.

Staying together was never an option, but with each passing day, their feelings only grow. Will they risk it all for what’s supposed to be a harmless fling?

Review:

I requested to read this without completely reading the blurb, so I didn’t know this was a Daddy/BDSM story (now you know *smile*).
It’s a really well written story, Wyatt and Linc are very well defined characters – Wyatt a bratty ‘boy’ and Linc, a stern ‘Daddy’. Linc was exactly what Wyatt needed – someone to make him feel good about himself and his needs.
For those who love these kinks, you’re in for a treat; neither are my jam. However, I was able to enjoy the really good writing, the development of the characters and I understood why Wyatt was ‘bratty’ – he was really neglected by the people that were supposed to love him – his parents.
Anyway, while this book was not for me, it is a very good book ☺

Audiobook: Sweet Clematis by R. Cooper narrated by Dominic Carlos

audiobookreview

Dreamspinner press

Blurb

A Being(s) in Love Story

Can a curse be a blessing?

Clematis works hard to embody every fairy stereotype. He can be a sulky prince or a submissive flirt, slutty and arrogant or silly and soft. He makes himself into whatever causes someone to want him. Combine that with beauty that’s incredible even for a fairy, and everyone wants him sooner or later… just not for long.

Well, everyone except the fairy Clematis secretly adores. But then, he’s never expected happily ever after, not when he’s spent years burying his emotions and making himself unlovable to push people away and protect his heart.

But his curse changes all that, and Clematis can no longer prevent his feelings from rising to the surface. He’s terrified that when his few friends see him for who he really is, they’ll abandon him, just like his parents did.

It’s hard to imagine friends who see past his act to the sweet person within, but maybe happiness has been in front of him the entire time, waiting for the real Clematis to break free and blossom.

REVIEW

Does a fairy find love with another fairy? Clematis has always thought that the shiny humans were the ones that you find happiness with. When he meets Flor, he sees so much shine, but Flor is only interested in David. Clematis hides so much for so long and when he and Flor begin a tentative friendship years after they meet Clematis cannot hide his emotions anymore. He believes that he is not worthy of any kind of friendship or love and pushes Flor away before he can be hurt but the feelings have already begun and cannot be denied.

I enjoyed this story from the Beings in Love series. It was nice to see Flor and Clematis get their own story. We get to see the softer sides of Flor and Clematis. We see what makes Clematis do what he does. As their relationship grows and deepens, we get to see what is underneath the façade that they each show the world. Their story is full of emotions and strong characters. Flor and Clematis figure things out with the help of their friends. I enjoyed the friendships and camaraderie between everyone. Clematis and Flor’s story is a beautiful read. We are treated to emotions and revelations throughout this book. Not only do we get to see their relationship unfold but we also get to see more of the political strife that is going on for the beings of this world and especially at the school. I hope that there is more to come from this world.
Narrator Dominic Carlos does a wonderful job of bringing these characters and their world to life. I was quickly absorbed into the story as soon as I began to listen.

Easton finds so much more than just the man who received a heart, he finds a man that wakes him up and brings him back to life, but could he truly love again?
Easton and River’s story is full of emotion. You can feel Easton’s pain as your own and it will pull on your heart. The two are so sweet and perfect together it is as if they are two halves of a whole. River is a good man who will have to decide if he is willing to take a chance on love. Their relationship grows quickly and deeply, and I loved watching the love grow between the two. Not only did River and Easton have a lot to say but the supporting characters stood out as well and I hope that we get to see more from them in the future. Recent Release: Nothing Special by Jay Northcote

Goodreads

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/46368624-nothing-special

Blurb

When Noah’s insecurity threatens their fledgling relationship, can Sol convince Noah that he’s enough?

Noah thinks he’s nothing special. Average height, a bit on the skinny side, and cute but rather geeky, he’s relentlessly ordinary. He certainly doesn’t expect to be noticed by Sol, the gorgeous dark-haired stranger Noah usually sees on his commute home.

When a friend persuades Noah to take a big risk in a bid to get Sol’s attention, things turn out better than Noah dared to hope. But Noah doesn’t believe he’s interesting or sexy enough to hold Sol’s attention.

As Sol tries to get closer, Noah tries to protect his heart by pulling away. If their relationship is going to survive, Noah needs to accept that Sol sees him very differently to how Noah sees himself. Because to Sol, Noah is something very special indeed.

Review

This was a very entertaining, easy read about two really sweet, drama-free guys. After some mutual pining and longing looks in the train, Noah and Sol get together in the cutest way thanks to Metro and a little prodding from Noah’s best friend. They seem to fall in like/lust/… maybe even love with heartwarming ease. Things are shaken up a bit near the end, though, with Noah’s insecurities attempting to put a brake on a good thing. Loved how the author did that and so unexpectedly upped the emotional stakes in this story. The epilogue was the cutest ever, so romantic!!
Recommend.

Recent Release: Spark in the Stars by Foster Bridget Cassidy

Dreamspinner: https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/spark-in-the-stars-by-foster-bridget-cassidy-10559-b

Blurb:
A case of mistaken identity could lead to love for an aloof starship captain and a brilliant if underappreciated mechanic from the sticks—if they can survive the dangerous mission assigned to them.

Ginnovi Oshwald just needs someone to give him a chance. He can keep anything running, despite the “spark” his body produces that sometimes wreaks havoc with electronics. Gin gets his chance when Captain Lian Hartford comes to Tallahassee in search of a mechanic. The trouble is, he’s looking for Gin’s sister. But since he only has a name to go by, Gin tells a little white lie. What could go wrong?
Lian loves his ship and his work as a diplomat but has difficulty connecting with others—only partly because of his mixed human and alien heritage. Something about the eccentric mechanic intrigues him, though, and their easy friendship could become more… if they live long enough to broker peace between humanity and a hostile race while pacifying a crew that thinks Gin belongs in prison.

Review:
It’s an interesting read at the start especially when Gin is mistaken for his sister and the dialogue switches between his and his sister’s name – I liked that, once I got used to it ☺
However, the story got to be a little confusing to me; how did Temina know what ship her brother was on? Then there were the secondary characters, they had been introduced but I had a hard time keeping track of many of them – Doc was also called Mother, but I wasn’t sure if she was really Lian’s mum and Pip turned out to be a deity.
Gin and Lian were likeable characters, but I didn’t feel that they any chemistry together.
It’s a good story, just not for me.
