The Necromancer’s Smile: Taking Care of Business
Book three.
(Please note, this is a trilogy covering the same main characters throughout. Reading books one and two is best before reading this one).

When Sy learned that Connor, the young familiar who’d been staying with him, had been captured, he knew immediately that he could find him. After all, what use was it, him being a Necromancer, if he couldn’t locate lost souls. The fact he was hosting Dakar’s parents at the time, shouldn’t have made it an issue. After all, they were pack orientated and understood the need to bring a family member home. Didn’t they?

Dakar had been a loving son for fifty years, so when his mom pitched a fit at him, for being part of the efforts to bring Connor home, he was a wee bit annoyed. Unfortunately, he had bigger things to worry about. A demon had set his sights on his mate, and while that wasn’t as unusual as you might think, this particular demon came with complications.

Everything is coming to a head for this unusual family. A wicked sprite, an off-course priest, and a demoness who isn’t all she appears to be are just some of the hurdles Sy and Dakar will have to cross before they finally get their HEA. And what was a dragon doing in the middle of a field?

This is an MM paranormal romance story and part of a trilogy. It contains men loving men, as well as cheeky spirits, a Necromancer growing in confidence, and a wolf shifter who’s getting more familiar with magic every day.

Trigger warning: One of the sub-plots in this story deals with historic child abuse. If this is an issue for you, please don’t purchase this book.

Previous books in this series:
The Necromancer’s Smile.
The Necromancer’s Smile: A Family Affair.

Review

This was a nice addition to the series.  I found the parents to be tedious and not necessarily believable.  I loved learning more about Sy and I loved seeing the full extent of his powers.  There is a lot of excitement and not a super lot of romance in this, but it is still sweet and fun.

I don’t think you can read this as a standalone but if you’ve started the series you’ll want to read this and you’ll enjoy it!

Many fall as the last enchanter rises…
The first line of the ancient prophecy keeps playing over and over in my head, but I’m afraid to remember the rest. I don’t want to think about what’s coming for us—what’s coming for him. I’ve been keeping Brinnswick safe for years; I’ve been keeping my coven safe my whole life; and now I was responsible for keeping Sebastian safe, too. It shouldn’t have been a problem, he was my vitmea viramore, after all, and I was used to having the weight of the world on my shoulders.
What Seb doesn’t know is that everyone in the magical community is after him—even if they don’t realize it yet. They’ve been looking for him for centuries; not only for him, but for his soul. But they never counted on him having me. I will protect him with my every breath and take down anyone that gets in our way. His soul belongs with me, not in the arms of evil.
The Enchanter’s Soul is the second book in The Ellwood Chronicles and is a continuation of Sebastian and Ailin’s story. It contains explicit material and is intended for mature adults 18 years of age and older.

I loved this! So much excitement. So much magic! Such great secondary characters. So many feelz! A teeny tiny bit of smexy times. Loads of magical creatures. A mysterious bad guy/omen situation. Lots to keep you turning pages.

My only complaint is that I wish I had the next book now!

I can see some developing side story lines and I’m super intrigued. The brothers and the friends are fascinating and do a great job of fleshing out the story to be more than just about the 2 mcs.

I loved how slowly this relationship is developing – sexually and emotionally – but still maintaining our mcs in fairly constant contact. So often the two mcs are apart and that is hard to develop a relationship. But these guys are together all the time but still going slow. I loved it!

Highly recommended – but you must read book 1 first. I didn’t read the precursor book and probably won’t and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything.

Audio

Kenneth Obi does a really good job with this. He definitely tries to give all the myriad characters a unique voice and he even goes for some sound effects. However, I couldn’t get over the voice he chose for Sebastian. Seb is a big tough cop and he chose a very meek voice. I also don’t love his timing – he paces the story a little overly dramatically that feels a bit soap opera-y. However, it’s still a very good listen and a great way to enjoy this series!

Everybody thinks Mackey Sanders’s Outbreak Monkey is the last coming of Rock ’n’ Roll Jesus, but Cheever Sanders can’t wait to make a name for himself where nobody expects him to fill his famous brothers’ shoes. He’s tired of living in their shadow.

Blake Manning has been one of Outbreak Monkey’s lead guitarists for ten years. He got this gig on luck and love, not talent. So hearing that Cheever is blowing through Outbreak Monkey’s hard-earned money in an epic stretch of partying pisses him off.

Blake shows up at Cheever’s nonstop orgy to enforce some rules, but instead of a jaded punk, he finds a lost boy as talented at painting as Mackey is at song-making, and terrified to let anybody see the real him. Childhood abuse and a suicide attempt left Cheever on the edge of survival—a place Blake knows all too well.

Both men have to make peace with being second banana in the public eye. Can they find the magic of coming absolute first with each other?

Review

Beneath the Stain is one of my all time favorite books, not just Amy book, but all time. I was ECSTATIC to find she’d written more! The story takes place several years and several kids later for the band and it’s members.

Just as Stain ripped our hearts out, so too does Paint it Black.

Poor Cheever. Gah. Remember how we hated him in Stain? Well, there was a HORRIBLE reason he was such a dick. That part of the story was very, very hard to read and it made Grant and Mackey seem only a little sad.

I loved the slight switch here where – once things are a little stabilized, Cheever is the one explaining life to Blake and helping him to see the Truth.

It was fantastic seeing the boys again and watching them with their kids and finding out how Briony keeps them all under control! I can’t wait for the audio and I can’t recommend the book highly enough!
