“You’ll either be the death of me or my salvation.”

KEITH
I don’t do romance. I possess. I use. And when I get bored, I discard. I’m not the good guy. Life stomped all the goodness out of me years ago. Now I’ll scheme and manipulate to get what I want.

What Do I Want?
Gio Arcuri

He walks into my office with a confidence that whets my appetite. By force of habit, I am compelled to exert my dominance. This man who matches me in wit and physical strength will get down on his knees. I will make him beg.

There’s only one problem.

I’ve found me a man whose will won’t bend even when his body is broken. A man who satisfies my demons only too well. How can a relationship that starts so wrong face anything but disaster?

GIO
After two years away, my best friend Tate pulls up in town with a new boyfriend in tow. What’s my plan? For his boyfriend to become an ex and for me to be the new man in Tate’s life.

What’s Standing In My Way ?
Keith Eardley

He’s only supposed to help me to get rid of Bryan but makes the most ridiculous proposition for him to render his assistance. He wants me on my knees. The worst part of it is that I can’t refuse. He may have the upper hand, but I will not submit to him. It doesn’t matter how much I crave the punishment he doles out with his Cat-O’-Nine. But the more I know Keith, the more I want from him. Not just his punishment. Not just his bondage. Keith thinks I’ll be either his salvation or the death of him, but what if he will be the death of me?

Corporate Bondage is 70k+ steamy romance with HEA between two unlikely anti-heroes you will love.

Review

This book starts out really intense and dark from the very first chapter, grabbing the reader’s attention from the get-go.
Both MC’s are unapologetic, spiteful assholes in the beginning (middle, end…), which is very refreshing and original! Have no fear… they grow on you!

I loved the passive aggressive side that Gio showed Bryan (awful, but something we all can relate too I’m sure) and the bitchy & snarky conversations and internal dialogue from Keith and Gio both. This made for really entertaining reading, but then, I love me a good anti-hero…and here you get two for the price of one!
A good redemption story has such potential to really touch a reader, and this was an outstanding one!

I’m so impressed with how the author let all that anger and hurt turn into hesitant caring and then love. This is an amazing love story, because the MC’s fight it, and each other, so much, and they are far more vulnerable beneath all their armor than your average MC, especially Keith.
I honestly couldn’t put this book down!!

At a certain point, Keith’s past catches up with him, just when he’s finally starting to believe that love and happiness might be possible for him after all. Such a cruel move, Ms. Holmes!
It made the story even more intense though, so well done! But oh…poor Keith and Gio.

The epilogue is cute and very sweet, all the while staying true to the MC’s grouchy natures, that not even a HEA can take away completely.

Two princes.

Two vastly different cultures.

One contract that could save their peoples.

Prince Kylan of Dorvak is desperate to save his starving country. Hemmed in by looming mountains and the sea, there’s only one nation who can help them… the ship nation of Ysladre, barred from their shores years ago.

ShipSon Ferrin of the Ysladre Flotilla has never stepped foot on land, but if he is able to secure this alliance for his people, for his father, their names will be remembered for as long as their people sail the seas.

The agreement is simple:

If ShipSon Ferrin produces an heir for Prince Kylan, they will be wed, and their nations united.

But forces within the kingdom are shifting. Many chafe under the harsh rule of Kylan’s father. Some seek the opportunity to unseat Kylan’s family for good. The king opposes the possibility of alliance with Ysladre.

Kylan cares for his people, but as he falls in love with the delicate son of Ysladre, he also falls in love with his people—a feeling his father cannot and will not understand.

It’s a race against time to secure the alliance with a child before the people starve to death, a rebellion rises, or the king outright banishes Ferrin, the only man he’s ever loved.

Prince’s Gambit is Game of Thrones meets mpreg, with an arranged marriage, deception, passion, knotting, bloodshed, but a guaranteed HEA. (No main characters were killed in in the making of this book.)An Epic Mpreg Romance

An Epic Mpreg Romance.

Review

There were parts I really loved about this: the social commentary, the “stranger in a stange land” aspects, the unique shift of experienced omega and virginal alpha.   Those were interesting and well written.

What I didn’t care for was the relationship between the two MCs – I didn’t feel the emotional connection and their marriage still felt like a marriage of convenience even by the end.

It was interesting and I’d look for more in this series, but I wasn’t blown away.

Not enough shifting 🙁

Review
I’ve not read anything by John Charles before and I’m always up for something new. I was surprised that at the beginning the author offers a free book which is I think a prequel to the series. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to read it before this book so I’m not sure how much information it gives. This is a well paced story which kept my interest. It’s set around cyber terrorism. An anonymous foe is creating havoc every 11 days. All the alphabet organisations are hunting him. one. Of the main characters, Marc, is a Robin Hood type hacker working with the authorities to bring him down. He is in college and deeply in love with Kylar. Asher is assigned to protect Marc. Another main Character is the NSA agent leading the investigation. She is a good strong female lead. I liked the way all the characters actions are believable, in that the pressures of being in the middle of in effectively being held to ransom by someone who has the ability to wreak havoc over the whole country, through controlling the network, would do. I was also surprised by how vilified Bertram was. He seemed more like someone in over his head and trapped working with the CIA rather than a deliberately crewel father or boss. But he is not given a chance of redemption at the end of the book.
Here’s the part that surprised me. Asher Redman was a background character. I’m so used to the characters series are named after taking centre stage that I kept waiting for it to happen but it didn’t. The story isn’t even from his POV. It’s from either Julie’s or Marc’s. Here I’m torn. I liked the story and the pace. It all takes place over about 6 weeks, from 11th November to just after Christmas. But something didn’t click for me and I was quite disappointed because from the blurb it sounded like my kind of book. Don’t let that put you off because n the whole it is an engaging story of young love and family in a very trying time.

Blurb:

When the cards are stacked against you, the Kings will even the odds.

Ex-special forces soldier Anston “Ace” Sharpe is fighting a different battle these days – one involving the world of private security across the state of Florida. As part owner of Four Kings Security, Ace and his fellow Kings tackle everything from armed transport and investigations to cyber intelligence and executive protection. Cocky, fearless, and brash, Ace isn’t afraid to take risks.

After years of working alongside his father, Colton Connolly is ready to take the helm at Connolly Maritime, but his father’s retirement is put on hold when Colton begins receiving death threats. If that isn’t bad enough, his father signs a contract with Four Kings Security to provide Colton with round-the-clock protection, despite his adamant refusal. Colton’s life has been turned upside down, the last thing he needs is a shadow, especially in the form of infuriating, sexy-as-sin Ace Sharpe, who seems to be on a mission to drive Colton mad.

Sparks fly the moment Colton and Ace meet on a sultry night club dance floor. But getting involved with a client, even one as fiery and beautiful as Colton Connolly, is a line Ace is unwilling to cross. Colton might be attracted to Ace, but he’s been burned before. He might be willing to put his life in Ace’s hands, but not his heart.

As the Florida nights heat up, so does their passion, and Ace and Colton are faced with a difficult choice – take the plunge and risk it all, or play it safe and walk away?

If Ace can keep a deadly threat from robbing Colton of a future….

Review:

Book 1 of a new contemporary series.
It’s a good story; I definitely liked it enough to think about reading the next book in the series. But holy smokes, Greg Boudreaux made this a ‘must listen to’ audiobook! If he narrates the rest of the series – it’s going to be a ‘must get the series on audio’ deal. I see at least 3 more audiobooks in my future ☺
So, we have the 4 Kings – a group of men that served together (Special Forces) that have set up a security firm.
First, we meet Ace and King – and Greg Boudreaux does a wonderful job of introducing ‘hell bent for leather’ Ace and solid King. As we get to meet the other ‘Kings’ – Red, Lucky – Greg gives them all their unique sound and character, not mention the accents and the Spanish – Mr. Boudreaux is truly talented! He sounded authentic and spot on.
At first, I really didn’t like Colton, he read like a spoilt brat, definitely not like a mature man about to take over a multimillion dollar company. But with the narration – I felt a little more sympathy for him – Mr. Boudreaux didn’t make him sound like a petulant child, instead Colton sounded more like an adult being told what to do without his input (and who likes that?).
I highly recommend experiencing the story as an audiobook – Greg Boudreaux is one of those voice performers who can elevate any story to a masterpiece.

Out of the Cage: When a flight of fun goes awry, a bat shifter plays the damsel in distress.

Sekani just planned to stretch his Egyptian fruit bat’s wings a little while his vampire lover, Master Borscht Kuznetsov, sat through a conference call. Unfortunately, his short flight takes an unexpected turn when he runs into another bat…of the non-shifter variety. Sekani’s headlong rush puts him in unexpected peril. While Sekani can speak telepathically with Borscht, will it be enough for his vampire to find and rescue him?

Review

This was pretty silly and fun! Sekani and Borscht (not my favorite name ever) are one of my favorite couples in Charlie’s series. Sekani is pretty sweet and innocent still and Borscht is still his hunky savior.

Don’t expect anything to substantial, just a bit of fun.

Steamy Romance: Protecting His Omega by Giovanna Reaves

Blurb: Phoenix Harcourt is a single father who was kicked out of his home when his parents found out that he was an omega. After losing his alpha mate, Phoenix turned his focus to his daughter and the successful company that was left in his care. With a threat to his life, Phoenix hires a bodyguard who wants to protect more than his body. He also want’s Phoenix’s heart.

Hired to protect an omega, Lucius Payne had one goal: do his job and nothing else. He was never one to mix business with pleasure. Moreover, finding an omega mate was not in his plans, especially when it is the man he is supposed to protect. Then his job becomes more complicated than he was expecting.

Can Lucius convince Phoenix to trust him with his heart as well as his body?

Review: So, I’m late to the party for non-shifter, mpreg stories, but this is a good one to get started with.
Phoenix was kicked out of his home at 16 because he was an omega and gay. After being taken in by Maxwell, a rich businessman (father/son relationship), Phoenix thrives and eventually takes over Maxwell’s business when he dies. Phoenix was mated once and has a little girl, Jasmine from the relationship.
Not everyone at Phoenix’s company is happy that he is the new owner, so when he starts receiving threatening letters Phoenix is forced to contact a private security company. This is how he meets Lucius, his mate.
What I liked about the story is that Phoenix is not a typical omega – yes, he knows he will submit to his alpha’s will – but he has a backbone and wouldn’t give in to the natural instinct to rollover for his alpha mate. Lucius is a patient alpha, who wants to care for his omega. There is a lot of sexual tension between the 2 men before they finally get together – mid book- but it’s worth the wait! Both men were a delight to read and Jasmine was realistically cute.
There is a surprise twist towards the end that also adds to the story (quite unique).

Luckily, I got my first taste with a good story and will likely continue to dip my toes in the sub-genre.

Blurb: Sometimes family chooses you.

At forty, Vincent “Vinnie” Fierro is still afraid to admit he might be gay—even to himself. It’ll be a problem for his big, fat Italian family. Still, after three failed marriages, it’s getting harder to ignore what he really wants.

Vinnie attempts some self-exploration in Chicago’s Boystown bars, far from anyone who knows him. Naturally, he runs smack into someone from the neighborhood.

Between working two jobs, going to school, taking care of his grandmother, and dealing with his mother’s ongoing substance abuse, Trey Giles has little time for fun, let alone dating someone who swears he’s straight. Yet after one night of dancing cheek-to-cheek, Trey agrees to let Vinnie court him and see if he truly belongs on this side of the fence—though Trey intends to keep his virginity intact.

It seems like a solid plan, but nothing is simple when family is involved. When Vinnie’s family finds out about their relationship, the situation is sticky enough, but when Trey’s mother goes critical, Vinnie and Trey must decide whose happiness is most important—their families’ or their own.

Review:

(Review of book on site previously by Anna)

I love this book. Have re-read several times. I don’t know if it resonates with me especially, if, like Vinnie, I too was late to the party of realizing who I really am or if it just such a great story by such talented writers that it would resonate with anyone.

At almost 40, with 3 ex-wives, a huge catholic Italian family and countless jobs behind him, plumber Vinnie Fierro suddenly realises that he might be gay. This assumption is not as outlandish as that sentence may look, there are reasons, believe me…
Testing the theory by going to a gay bar leads to a meeting with a local from his neighborhood, Trey Giles, a 25 year old college student, with so much on his plate that he has no time for dating and no desire to sleep around, until he finds ‘someone special’. With sex off the table, the two are free to explore being in a relationship and being intimate with out any pressure from either side.

There a truckload of angsty issues, this book could easily have veered off into very heavy territory, but despite the Vinnies fear of coming out and being abandoned by his family, and poor Trey’s mess of a life with two jobs, college and looking after an aging grandmother and a raging alcoholic for a mother, it somehow manages to stay pretty light and feel good.

I have re-read it several times, still love it and I’ll be the first in line when it’s released in audiobook format. I only have very minor niggles about it and one of them is the request for Hank’s story from the authors. There must be a story to tell there!

Review by Morgan
I agree with Anna so much! This was a wonderful book and I’d read it several time and have found something new to appreciate with each new read.

This time, as a listen, I got the joy of the new narrator – he’s AWESOME – as well as the appreciation that the slowing down and listening to a story really brings.

I think, what this time ‘round has shown me, is that this book really works as a coming of age book that happens to have a lot of romance in it. Both of our MCs are really growing in this story and their coming together helps with that growth, but isn’t necessarily the main or only cause of that growth.

I loved how Colin Darcy portrayed Vinnie – he felt spot on to me! It was wonderful! He also really shone in his ability to handle the emotional saga between Trey and his mom. He had me in tears! Really well done and highly recommeneded!

A love as easy as breathing.

Life started out rocky for Devin Rice, but it’s turned out pretty well. He has adoptive parents and a brother who love him, and he works as a coder for his dad’s video game company. Romance is scarce, but a chance encounter leads to more than he ever expected.

While dropping off an assignment for his sick brother, Dev meets his mentor. Art history professor Seth Kent is brilliant and gorgeous, just what Dev has been looking for. Except that he’s in a long-term committed relationship.

Seth’s partner, Leaf, is older and sees the world differently due to his unusual upbringing. To him, the clear attraction between Seth and Dev isn’t a problem, it’s an unexpected gift. After all, Leaf is often on the road, going wherever rescue dogs need rehabilitation.

When Leaf meets Dev, all the missing pieces fall into place, and three men from different worlds and at different points in life fill each other’s empty spaces. For them, building a future together is the most natural thing in the world. But their unconventional love causes waves in their careers and family dynamics, and each man has his own doubts and fears to overcome

Review
This is one of the best MMM books I have read. I absolutely loved the story of how these three complex men came together. Each met a particular need of the others, even finding new aspects that they didn’t realise were missing until now. There is also an age difference between the characters which is a very important aspect. This was one story I just didn’t want to end, I wanted to stay in their world. There is no angst even though each of them are dealing with very heavy issues from their past. These also play a part in how their relationship unfolds. The key here is communication, being very open with what they are feeling and any other problems. In this way they build a strength between them enabling them to deal with issues and support each other. I might be making this sound like a utopia but I thoroughly enjoyed reading about a three way relationship that clicked and wasn’t just about sex, although that is there as well.
This is a story I will definitely be reading again (and listen to if it comes out on audiobook)

Release Day Review: Fire and Granite by Andrew Grey

Blurb:
A Carlisle Deputies Novel

The heat is growing from the inside, but danger is building on the outside.

Judge Andrew Phillips runs a tight ship in his courtroom. He’s tough, and when he hands down a sentence, he expects to be obeyed. So when a fugitive named Harper escapes and threatens his life, Andrew isn’t keen on twenty-four/seven protection… especially not from Deputy Clay Brown. They have a past, one that could cause problems in their careers.

But with Clay assigned to Andrew and the two of them together every minute, there’s nowhere to hide from their attraction—or from the fact that there’s much more than chemistry blooming between them. As the threat intensifies, Clay knows he’ll do anything it takes to protect the people who are taking their places in his heart: Andrew and his young niece and nephew.

Review:
This is the second in the Carlisle Deputies series. I have not read the first one, though there are characters from the first book, this works as a standalone story.
Andrew Grey consistently delivers sweet, straight forward romances with little angst, lots of heartwarming themes and HEAs. This story is no different.
Clay and Andrew knew of each other and both thought that the other man was difficult, bossy and not likeable. They are forced to work together when an escaped convict (Clay’s cousin) manages to escape, but not before threatening Andrew’s life, (he was the judge in his conviction).
When Andrew ends up staying with Clay at his home, the 2 men get to know each other better and soon develop a mutual attraction. But, just as the romance is starting up, Andrew has to take care of his niece and nephew. Andrew worries that the sudden change will affect his budding relationship with Clay, but Clay is on board with the change. In the middle of all of this, they are still dealing with the stalking convict and the person pulling the convict’s strings.
I liked the story, no new trope/theme, but an enjoyable read. There is a bit of a twist in regards to the mystery, leading to interesting turn of events.

There were a couple of inconsistencies in my ARC copy which I hope will be fixed by the general release date; otherwise a good story, enough for me to follow the series.

Blurb: Sometimes the only way to move forward… is to go back.

JAMES
I don’t know what’s more shocking—the sudden end to my marriage, or the fact that I’d married a woman at all. But now I’m broke and homeless, kicked out of my Upper West Side apartment while my ex-wife walks away with everything we’ve ever worked for.
So what’s an executive chef stripped of his dignity gonna do?
Go back to Jersey with his tail between his legs, that’s what.
BEN
I can’t say that spending a decade pining after my best friend was the best use of my time. While I’d pretty much become an expert at the whole unrequited love thing, I’d resigned myself to the fact that Jimmy and I were never gonna happen. But when Jimmy turned up on my doorstep in his hour of need, I jumped at the chance to offer him my bed—er, couch. I mean, what are friends for, right?
Now that he’s released from the shackles of matrimony, I can’t wait to show him exactly what he’s been missing out on all these years.
What I didn’t anticipate was him showing me that maybe I’d been missing out too.

Review: I liked this friends-to-lovers, slow burn story, despite the few issues I had with James (Jimmy).
Jimmy and Ben had been friends with benefits whilst in college, when out of the blue, Jimmy announces (to Ben) that he’s getting married (issue #1); to a woman (issue #2). The marriage, in name only (issue #3), is to further his culinary career (issue #4). When said marriage fails, Jimmy heads back to his bestie, Ben who offers him a place to stay. Of course their feelings for each other are rekindled (Ben’s feelings never really went away), and they find their way to being back together. However, Jimmy is still in the closet and plans to stay in it for the foreseeable future (#5). I was not a fan of Jimmy.
Eventually Jimmy is outed. He and Ben work through the issues resulting from the outing and Jimmy’s divorce settlement to get to their HEA.
A nice story set in the 90’s; good for a sweet, uncomplicated read.
