Levi’s best friend, Adam, has always been larger than life: a smoking-hot billionaire hotelier with imposing charm. When Manhattan stops being big enough for both of them—at least if Levi ever wants to fall out of love with Adam—Levi accepts a job in in San Francisco.

But when Adam pulls an Adam—upending Levi’s calm new life with a plea to lend his photography talent to a worthy cause—Levi is helpless to resist. Adam will be the first Fortune 100 CEO to come out of the closet in grand fashion. He needs a trusted ally on his PR team. And the job will only last three weeks.

Levi accepts on one hidden condition: he’ll keep his new friends away from Adam, certain that if they get a whiff, they’ll fall under Adam’s spell. Bent on keeping his two lives separate, Levi barely makes it through the first two weeks unscathed. Then, Adam drops another bomb….

Review

I just couldn’t get into this. Adam didn’t seem real and his relationship with Levi got tedious really fast.

I was just never invested in them as a couple and by the end I didn’t necessarily believe in their HEA.

I’m hoping it was just the situation/couple and I’d be willing to give the author another chance as this is the first I’ve read by them.

Recent Release: Mr. Right Now by Annabeth Albert

He’s Mr. Right Now, but for how long?

When Russ suffers a Thanksgiving disaster, his gorgeous neighbor Esteban is there to save the day. And after an innocent mix-up leads to the former Hollywood hottie playing the role of Russ’s date, Russ thinks scoring Esteban as his fake boyfriend is a huge win. The newly discharged marine is healing inside and out and could use some holiday cheer.

For his part, Esteban is intrigued by his big, bad neighbor. He likes how his matchmaking cat brings out an unexpected caring side of Russ. Desire flares as the reasons to continue their ruse pile up for both men.

And pretending feels so good. From chocolaty kisses to late night cuddles, their burgeoning friendship is getting cozier and cozier. But as the end date for their little deception looms, all the real feelings they’ve tried to ignore come tumbling in. Each must decide whether they have what it takes to ring in the New Year as a couple.

Mr. Right Now is a stand-alone holiday novella with sweet, low-angst feels, spicy love scenes, and foodie inspired, quirky Oregon romance with a military flavor. Happy ending guaranteed with no cliffhangers!

Review

This is the perfect Fake relationship trope story, I like that they stumble into it and not plan in as a scheme of some sort. Russ and Esteban have this easy friendship that gets better the more time they spend together. I also enjoyed how, despite them making plans to ‘break up’, they keep getting pushed back, until they realize this had become much more then pretend.
Russ was my favorite character, he’s doing some big life changes and I could relate to that. He’s going after his dreams, figuring out what he wants, and that includes Esteban. Never giving up and going for it even when it’s out of his comfort zone. He inspires me to dream nigger, do better.

They are both well rounded characters for such a short story, with specific interests, tastes and personalities. Annabeth puts her unique touch into every story, with military heroes I always enjoy reading about. Also, there was just enough heat to keep satisfied, even though I would love more, but in a novella you have to balance every story component.
Sweet HEA, Romantic with just the right amount of taste for more, Mr. Right Now is the perfect Christmas Romance to bring a smile and warmth to your heart this holiday season.

Needing a change of scene, Griffin Burke moves from Brisbane to Coolum Beach to start a new job. The beautiful white sand, aqua-coloured ocean, blue skies, and summer breezes are everything he longs for. What he finds is a mud-covered dog, lost and hungry, with a nametag and a phone number.

Dane Hughes is stuck in Surfers Paradise at a week-long work conference when he gets a phone call from his distraught mother. His dog, his fur baby, Wicket, has run away. Unable to leave and feeling helpless and miserable, he gets a text from a guy. “I think I found your dog…”

Griffin and Dane start talking, and Griffin agrees to look after Wicket until Dane can collect him. With a few days left before his new job starts, Griffin takes Wicket on some coastal adventures and sends Dane photos of their fun, and so the start of something new and kind of wonderful begins.

Griffin might have moved to Coolum in search of a new life, but what he finds is so much more. What he gets to keep just might take some four-legged help

Review

Nr Walker is such a diverse writer! She can break our hearts out in the desert, open our minds out in Africa, introduce us to fighting and lighten our days with sweet and simple romances!

This is a cute, no angst story about two guys who are a little lonely and really into one specific dog. They meet on the phone and over texts and slowly learn about the other.

Meanwhile, there is a more deeply moving story happening with Dane’s landlady, and that too, ends happily.

If you want something sweet, sexy and funny – this is the book for you!

Highly Recommended!

I really love Nick Russo and in fact would not have even looked at this had it not been for him and he was as wonderful as always so… there’s that.

For the story I’d give it a weak 3 of 5 stars for the set up and first half. For the narration a 5 and an overall weak 4 – but it’s maybe only a 3.5.

Sometimes the walls we build to save ourselves have to come tumbling down.

For the last ten years, Huey has built his life around his sobriety. If that means he doesn’t give a damn about finding love or companionship for himself, well, it’s probably better that way. After all, the last thing he wants is to hurt anyone else. Until Felix Rainey walks into his bar, fresh-faced, unbearably sweet—and, for some reason Huey can’t fathom, interested in him.

As the eldest of five kids, Felix Rainey spent his childhood cooking dinner, checking homework, and working after-school jobs. Now in his twenties, he’s still scrambling to make ends meet and wondering what the hell he’s doing with his life. When he meets Huey, he’s intimidated . . . and enamored. Huey’s strong and confident, he owns his own business—hell, he’s friends with rock stars. What could he ever see in Felix?

As Huey and Felix get closer, the spark catches and soon they can’t get enough of each other. But Huey’s worked hard to avoid intimacy, and Felix threatens his carefully constructed defenses. Huey realizes he needs to change if he wants to truly put his past behind him—and build a future with Felix.

Review

This was so, so good!
It took me awhile to get into this because I was really nervous about the entire “sobriety” thing that is a recurring theme in the series but – though it is definitely a main theme – it almost took a back seat to the really sweet and awkward romance between these two totally mismatched heroes.

I loved that Felix had to really dig deep and find his own happiness and how Huey had to admit his “patterns” were no longer helpful.

The heat is just right – a fair amount of steam but this is really more about the feels.

Highly recommended! I think it’s best when read as part of the series but it can absolutely stand on its own.

Audio

I really enjoyed Kirt Graves’ part of this narration, he does a nice job as Felix – high strung and energetic. I wasn’t a huge fan of Tor Thom. On the one hand he did fit Huey but it was harder to listen to him because I felt like I wanted him to be less clunky in my ear and his breathing bothered me.

In any case, it’s a wonderful way to experience this story.

Detective Bill Quigley fell in love with the familiar Isaac the night they met. But after more than two years, it’s time to admit to himself that Isaac doesn’t return his feelings.

Isaac knows he’s too broken by his experiences for anyone to fall in love with. Especially someone like Bill, who deserves a partner unplagued by Isaac’s nightmares and doubts.

When children go missing from an orphanage, Bill and Isaac must work together to find them. And as years of yearning threaten to ignite into passion, they must decide once and for all whether to take a chance on love.

Review

Just as I’ve come to expect, Jordan Hawk brings us another amazing installment in her Hexworld series!

What I love about this series is how clearly she brings to life the flavor, sounds, colors of her world with her words. Having listened to Tristan James’ narration of her characters helps – of course – but honestly – she does such a terrific job of painting the picture that it’s like being in a painting or watching a movie as I read.

The mystery is exciting but doesn’t overshadow the romance and the new “twist” we see here between Bill and Isaac is lovely and just as rewarding as the previous MCs in the series.

Highly recommended and I can’t wait to listen to this as well!

Audio
Gah! I LOVE listening to Tristan James do accents! Mmmmm He did a tremendous job differentiating ALL the different characters and the British/Irish/Bronx… all of them were fantastic! It must be SO HARD to do but it comes off as effortless.

I still think my favorite is the cat- Cicero. He’s so catty! And snarky and funny and Tristan truly does him justice. He did a nice job with Bill and Isaac too – but Cicero holds a special place in my heart.

This is ABSOLUTELY the best way to enjoy these – you won’t regret it!

Marry me for one year. Payment: $1.2 million.
Hayden Somerset is convinced the ad is a joke, but he responds anyway because, hello, $1.2 million. He’s broke, living in a tiny apartment with two roommates, and exhausted from praying his ancient car survives just one more week. His skyrocketing rent and crushing student loans aren’t helping either. At this point, there isn’t much Hayden wouldn’t do for that kind of cash.
The ad isn’t a joke. Jesse Ambrose is absolutely serious. His father, the charismatic patriarch of a powerful Hollywood dynasty, has his eye on politics, and he’s counting on California’s liberals and progressives to elect him. But Jesse knows what his father believes when cameras and voters aren’t around.
As the election looms, he’ll do anything to force the man’s hand and show the public who Isaac Ambrose really is. Anything, including marrying a stranger, so his father will make good on his promise to disown Jesse if he ever takes a husband.
Now he just has to wait for his father to take the bait…and try not to accidentally fall in love with his fake husband.

Review

In general I avoid books about Hollywood because Hollywood is generally pretty gross. However, I was totally hooked by the idea of a “mail order husband” and that the entire point was to screw over the jerk of a dad who’s trying to portray himself as a liberal while hiding his true Republican/homophobic ways.

The story was pretty believable and it’s a testament to the narrators that I’d never read the story and didn’t want to ever stop and read faster because I was enjoying his narration so much!

There were times I wanted our guys to talk to one another a bit more, but in general, I felt like this was pretty authentic and plausible. The smexy times and feels felt appropriate and added to the story well.

I loved the two narrators contributions and thought it was an amazing listen!

Highly recommended in this form!

Geek Life: Book Three

When best friends Brenden and Dakota launch the biggest comics and pop-culture convention of their careers, they finally realize what everyone around them already knows: they’ve been in love for years.

Now what are they going to do about it?

Meticulously organized Brenden Wade and easygoing Dakota Nye turned their love of geek culture into a business, running conventions all over the Chesapeake Bay area. Now the weight of their pasts is threatening not only their friendship but their dream. Brenden fears losing his foster family when his secrets come out, and though the last thing Dakota wants is to hurt his plus one, he doesn’t know if he’s capable of settling down.

One night of passion challenges both men’s preconceptions and forces them to evaluate what they want from the future. They’re both scared, and though they’ve always been able to figure out anything together, hearts are on the line. Will taking a chance on romance lead to a beautiful disaster, or just a disaster?

Review

I have to start with the fact I simply ADORE this series! I started with book #2 and even though Labbe changes POV every chapter and some of them are side characters (that are the MCs in the other books in the series) these books can totally be read as stand alones- but why not read them all, they are so good! I also like how the plots are a bit interlocked together, while still keeping each book a complete piece and never giving you the feeling like you are missing something because it happens in another book.

For those with someone geeky in their lives, of geeks themselves this series is painfully honest and real. I love how authentic the characters feel, and the relationships between them all. Add to that the complexity of geek culture and how it’s described are both unique and interesting. As a geek myself with many friends in the geek community I really enjoyed how the author chose to portray geek life in these books. Someone who is totally put off by geeks might not like these books as much, as they do revolve around it quite a bit, but I personally find it one of most appealing things about them.

This book tics so many boxes for me, with one of my favorite troupes in it, friends to lovers. Dakota and Brenden have so much history between them, and you feel it with every word they say- this is why I love friends to lovers, it has a base from which the relationship grows. Here in particular the base is wide and the bonds connecting the two strong. I was also waiting for them to get their book ever since I read book #2, and then #1, were you get some glimpses into their lives and the underlining attraction and love between them. Dakota and Brenden have been a long way coming into this, and boy is the explosion between them good.

I also love banter, an author can win me over with some good bantering, and Brenden bantering with Dakota is one of the best things in the entire book series.
The only things I would like more about these books is extra sex scenes (because they are so hot!) and just more stories. It seems like book #3 is the last one as we didn’t get more side characters taking the wheel to clue us in, but I have hope.

Holden~
When I get a call that my twin brother’s been shot, I’m in shock as I head back to Baltimore to be with him. Seeing him in a coma is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do; sitting here not knowing whether he’s going to live or die is the worst thing I can imagine. But at least Jameson is with me—he makes it more bearable, and I don’t feel like I’m in this alone. With everything going on, I probably shouldn’t be checking out my brother’s work partner, but I can’t seem to help it. Jameson’s been so sweet and kind and considerate; not to mention he’s so sexy I can’t keep my eyes off him.
Jameson~
My partner getting shot and ending up in a coma brings everything in my world to a screeching halt. He’s not only my partner on the police force, but my best friend and confidant. When I see his twin brother, Holden, sitting in the waiting room, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude that he neither blames me nor pushes me away. Now I’m doing my best to take care of him and support him; if only I’d stop noticing how his emotions reflect in his eyes and wondering how it would feel to touch him.
Will the bonding that takes place during their long bedside vigils become more than they expected? Can they be honest enough with themselves and each other to take it to the next level? And if they do, will Holden be willing to sacrifice the life he loves for the brother he’s kept at arm’s length for almost ten years and the man who could end up being his everything?
Heart Strain is the first book in the Interlocking Fragments series, but is a standalone novel. Each book in the series will feature a different couple, but the couples will show up throughout the whole series. This is a contemporary romance intended for 18+.

Review

This was a tremendously sweet book. While there was a little bit of angst (worry –really) about the fate of Drix, the relationship happens very smoothly and with little angst.

There was loads of feelz, a fair amount of smexy times, and a fairly even pace. If anything, it moved a bit slow for my liking, but was generally very good.

Recommended.

A new person will enter your life in the early year, Leo. Look past any moments of frustration they might bring and laugh—this could be the start of a thriving friendship.

Theo Wallace usually laughs at the horoscopes his mom sends. Still hung up on his ex-girlfriend and practically friendless, this one begs him to reconsider. Because a friendship that stuck, that thrived…

Well, that would be a reason to leave past pains behind and look to the Bright Future.

When his sister Leone challenges him to find her the perfect date for a spring wedding, Theo uses it as a chance to make new friends. Theo’s ex economics tutor and newest roommate Mr Jamie Cooper seems to be a possible and convenient match. Real convenient. Like written in the stars, convenient.

All he has to do is make sure this Jamie is good enough. Could really be the one for her, and the friend for him.

Review

This was really FUN! Anyta Sunday has given us a great story filled with real people and no caricatures. There is a lot of sexual tension and snarkiness and in the end we get a very HEA. (The steam is low in this, so you’ll appreciate the author’s “sequel” Leo Tops Aries!)

I loved the progression from “straight” to “explore” and thought the humor was the selling point in this romance.

Highly recommended!

Rudy Sanda is a new-ish narrator and I really enjoyed his take on this humor-filled story. Some of his characters were a bit over-done and his voice for some sounded a bit old for their characters.
