Fate is a funny thing. Some try to cut its threads, while others wrap themselves in it like a blanket.

Young wolf shifter Max is cocky and crass. Unlike others his age, he has yet to discover a talent that will serve his pack. Since childhood, he’s been convinced the pack alpha is his mate, but Alpha Christian cannot envision unfiltered and directionless Max taking the place of his elegant mother at the head of the pack. As Max begins to build a life with his best friend, he also begins to see that maybe what he thought was inevitable was all in his head, and it’s time to move on.

Or are they both denying fate?

Review by Xanthe

This is my first experience with this author and I’d be interested in reading more of this series, though I found this book to be a little hit and miss.
The basis of the story and the relationship between Max and Alpha Christian is intriguing.
All wolves have a gift and Max is yet to discover his. His main focus at the moment is getting the Alpha to notice him and the mate pull that Max is certain of. The Alpha is very reticent about Max. He’s always watching over the younger man but cannot see the two of them having a future.
To me, the story had a lot of promise but didn’t quite fulfill on it’s potential. There were, for me, some really good parts that, if fleshed out a little would have massively boosted my interest and involvement with the characters. Less is not always more.
One thing that confused me was that the POVs used in the book are Max and Max’s best friend Seth, we don’t actually read from Christian. Seth does play a big role for Max, has been supportive and important to Max, but having his POV didn’t quite make sense to me.
The connection between Max and Christian is clear to see from the outside but there wasn’t a lot of interaction between them making it hard to feel connected to, and involved with, the characters.
The setting itself is well described and a place I would definitely love to live in, sounding quaint and appealing.
I would ask people to give this book a go as overall, I enjoyed the story, but I’m hoping that book two goes a little deeper with action, conversation and emotions.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review

Review by Morgan

This just wasn’t for me. I found the low steam to be very unsatisfying and though I can appreciate that this was a lot about Max finding his own way in the world, I wanted more about his relationship with Christian and less about Max’s friendship/bakery endeavors. Another thing that I didn’t like was the lack of “wolfiness”. I didn’t feel the wolf part of Max and I wanted to.

Though I’d read a blurb for the next book in the series, it’d really have to bowl me over for me to continue with this. I was simply underwhelmed by the romance.

When a simple ‘find & fetch’ case throws private investigator Twig Starfig and newly-minted wizard, Quinn Broomsparkle, into the middle of an EBI murder investigation, it’s just another day in the Elder Realm.

If murder were Twig’s only problem, he’d be the luckiest half-dragon in the land. Murder he can handle. Fulfilling his promise to his scheming, power-hungry father to run for a seat on Lighthelm’s city council? Meh, he’d rather face a demon with a toothache.

On top of their case going sideways, and Twig running for a council seat he really doesn’t want, Twig and Quinn are forced to face some unpleasant realities about their budding romance, while still learning how to handle the wizard-familiar bond they now share. Throw in a red fury with abysmal taste in boyfriends, a ghost pirate-parrot who drinks too much, a murderer who will stop at nothing to get what they want, a host of new friends and enemies, and you’ve got a situation where no one is safe and everyone is Fairy Game

Review
This book carries on from the end of the first book, By Fairy means or Foul. In my opinion you do need to read (or listen the audiobook book is great) to book 1. I’d forgotten how much I love these characters, and I do mean Characters. Twig is a dragon shifter, Quinn a Wizard and Bill the daemon Red Fury (he’s my favourite). In this book we have a murder mystery, political intrigue and family drama. There is so much going on in the story. It keeps quite a pace without losing it’s integrity. Meghan Maslow has built a wonderful world which just keeps on getting better with each book. There are a lot of new characters with their own quirky ways that make it so fun to read. As well as ones from the first book. Twig and Quinn’s complicated relationship is continuing to build, Twig is Quinn’s familiar and in this story they struggle with whether to mate or not. Such a difficult situation when you’re already bound together in a different way. The murder mystery is handled quite well. Kept me guessing, and I like that about it. Someone is also trying to kill Twig’s father (who I’ve slowly warmed to). That looks like one of the threads that will carry on to book 3, because for me there are too many loose ends for the series not to carry on. I do hope this story comes out on audiobook as well.

Happily ever after is right under their noses.
Harris has been keeping a big secret for years—his unrequited mate bond with his best friend, Jackson. He’s convinced himself that having Jackson in his life is enough. That, and his work at Camp H.O.W.L., keeps him going.
Things get complicated when Jackson applies for a high-ranking Tribunal job in New York City—far from Camp H.O.W.L. The position requires he relinquish all Pack bonds… and that’s when his wolf decides to choose a mate. Suddenly Jackson sees his best friend in a sizzling new light.
Their chemistry is through the roof, but they’re setting themselves up for broken hearts—and broken bonds—if Jackson can’t figure out a way to balance his career and the love that’s just been waiting for him to take notice.

Review

This was super disappointing for me. I LOVED the idea of the love from afar and the finally finding out we’re mates as a concept. However, the end result was a really tepid anticlimactic love scene(s) and a lot of important couple events happened off page.

Though fans of the series will still want to read this, and you don’t have to start from the beginning to enjoy this, I think if you start with this you’ll be disappointed and won’t appreciate the others in this series which are more wonderful.

Recent Release: Doc’s Deputy (Arrowtown #4) by Lisa Oliver

Blurb

Deputy Joe of the Arrowtown Sheriff’s department has tried to hold his head up high his entire life, even though it’s never been easy. Carrying the Quincy name has been a curse he’s worked hard to put behind him, but when his two uncles get thrown out of Arrowtown because of their nefarious dealings, Joe found the courage to turn to the one man he thought would stand by his side. Being told he was “too young, too dumb and too well-hung” were not the words he expected to hear when his true mate rejected him to his face. As the man in question was the town doctor, it’s not surprising that when Joe gets hurt, turning up at the man’s surgery was the last thing on his to-do list.

Doctor Nathan Farriday (known locally as “Doc”) has lived a long life, and not always on his own. A long time Arrowtown local, Doc has watched Joe grow into a kind, decent, hardworking man – too good for him in other words. If asked, Doc could spout a long list of reasons why taking the man as his fated mate was a bad idea. Age and inexperience were just the easiest reasons to explain. The danger from his animal half was something he preferred to keep to himself. But when Joe’s family come calling and Joe is left badly hurt, Doc has to reassess a lifetime of bad choices.

Rampaging buffalo shifters and a bomb blast have the potential to splinter the tiny shifter town apart. In the ashes of the aftermath, the sheriff’s department work furiously to keep their population safe. But will Joe and Doc’s relationship survive the revelation of Doc’s biggest secret or will they be forced to leave the town they both call home?

This is a true mate paranormal (shifter) MM story that includes depictions of intimacies between men and some violence. The story includes Mpreg although it is not the main focus of the story line. Due to adult content, readers 18+ only.

Review

There is nothing ground breaking here but it is another example of Lisa Oliver’s ability to continue to impress me with her characters and her ability to show us true “romance” between fated mates.

I’ve loved most of her series and though I don’t love this as much as her Cloverleah boys (https://www.goodreads.com/search?q=lisa+oliver+cloverleah), this one definitely impresses with it’s humor and willingness to be a little goofy.

Doc is the older guy and young Bull – Deputy Joe are really sweet together and match each other well – once Doc gets over himself!

If you’re looking for deep and meaningful – keep lookin’! – but if you want sweet, sexy and fun – this is the shifter series for you!

Elder Bodb has walked the earth for over a thousand years. All that time, he’s waited patiently for Fate to bring him his mate. When he travels to the Falias clutch to share sentencing information on one of their former members, he catches just the faintest whiff of something…something intoxicating. His mate is finally near. After discovering the smell originated from the brother of a man mated to a gargoyle, Bodb learns that Nicholas Lindson doesn’t know about the paranormal world. To make matters worse, Nicholas is engaged to some socialite in Texas, and the wedding is only a few weeks away. Bodb discovers that’s not the worst thing, though. Nicholas is the heir to a Texas cattle baron empire, and his father is very involved in his life—overly so. Can Elder Bodb figure out how to not only share that paranormals exist and woo Nicholas, but to extricate his human out from under the father’s domineering hand?

Review

Elder Bodb is a gargoyle who is over eleven hundred years old. Nicholas is the brother of Mitch, who is mated to Kardamon (APL #23). No need to read Mitch’s story first.

Nicholas is engaged to be married to Sandra when he learns not only about paranormal creatures, but he is also chosen by fate herself to be mated to Bodb.

One major problem, Nicholas is a man of his word and calling off the wedding was not an option.

“My mate is a man of deep honor.” – Bodb

Then there is Nicholas and Mitch’s father Baltus. What a jerk!!!

“His father cared for one thing, and pleasure wasn’t it. It’s always about the bottom line. Money.” – Nicholas

I love the instant connection they have. Both are open to listening and figuring out a way for Nicholas to keep his promise and still be with his mate. Bodb may not find the situation ideal, but he will have his mate however he can.

“Please try to understand that you are my mate. A gift from the gods. And I am willing to do whatever is necessary to make you happy.” -Bodb

I hope there is more explaining at some point about “Uncle Albert”.

Charlie Richards always writes quick, hot and entertaining reads. As a huge gargoyle fan, I’m always excited when a new story comes out.

Two broken omegas and one hard-edged alpha… three men who are stronger than they think… especially when they trust each other enough to be vulnerable.

A pair of omegas who are everything to each other…

Not only are they best friends, they’re also lovers. In all the years that they’ve been on the streets fighting to survive, they’ve had one end goal: to one day find an alpha strong enough to love both of them equally.

An alpha without a purpose…

Since his return to civilian life, Beaumont has yet to reconnect with society. Instead, he spends his nights running from nightmares and memories of war. While out on one of his nightly wanderings, the alpha catches sight of two of the prettiest angels he’s ever seen. Intrigued, he follows them home… only to find them taking refuge on a filthy, discarded mattress in an abandoned warehouse.

Three broken men who can heal each other’s wounds…

Beau goes from stalker to protector in the blink of an eye when his angels need him to intervene in a bad situation. Before he realizes it’s happening, life as he knows it changes to become something new and precious.

Lukas is the protector. He’s tough, snarky, and would happily give his own life if necessary to protect his Gid. Time and time again, he’s proven his strength by rescuing Gideon from would-be attackers. Now he needs to find the courage to let go and trust Beau to protect them all.

Sweet, angelic Gideon is used to being protected and adored. None of the horrible things in his life seem to affect him, because at the end of the day, he’s always had Lukas… and that’s all that matters. When the chips are down, can Gid discover his inner strength and step up to be an equal partner in this fragile new triad?

This mmm book contains mpreg, and intended for 18+ readers. Possible triggers for attempted sexual assault, violence, and breath play kink. Parts of this book are a little darker than you’re used to from Susi Hawke, but an HEA and all the laughs and shmoopy feels that you’d expect are definitely included!

Review

This was about what you’d expect it to be. There is a lot of sex. The two omegas balk at finding their “alpha” while the “alpha” doesn’t seem to have much personality or any fears/doubts etc.

I think – though I enjoyed it well enough – that the lack of any real bonding between the alpha and the two omegas as anything other than his ability to knot them made this less than romantic.

While I usually like/enjoy ménage – this felt like the two omegas were bonded and they needed a father figure/savior/alpha to knot them and make them daddies.

This wasn’t my favorite by this author.

I’m still looking forward to more from this series.

From the author of the bestselling series, Pack Mates, comes the highly anticipated third book of the Fraser Lake Pack.

After his rescue from a prisoner of war compound in Russia, wolf shifter Lieutenant Colonel Mark Thompson doesn’t quite know what to do with the rest of his life. When an intriguing young man makes him an offer to recover more than a thousand miles away, he accepts.

Nathan “Hacker” Anderson has made a living by using his genius to carry out some not-so-legal jobs for whoever wants to hire him. Coming too close for comfort with being caught, Nathan fled to British Columbia, where he made his home in the middle of a forest. For the first time in his life, he’s happy and perfectly content with his lonely life.

Until…

…a chance meeting with the handsome Mark Thompson has him falling in love for the first time in his life. If he could only convince Mark that he was so much more than his career-ending injury, life would be perfect.

Mark has never been so taken with another shifter. Nathan brings out feelings he’s never experienced. But what could he ever offer the young eagle shifter? He doesn’t have a job, a role in his new pack, or even a working right hand.

Are their feelings strong enough or will the combination of Mark’s insecurities, Nathan’s inexperience, and pack instabilities tear them apart?

Review

This is the latest in her spin off the Fraser lake pack. Even though it is a spin off we still get to see all our old friends. Well a lot of our old friends.

This does a bit of back filling from the last two books and this is definitely best read in order. (I think you’d be able to figure things out if you started here, but the series in it’s entirety is pretty fun – so go ahead and start at the beginning!)

In this case we get a really sweet hacker who gets to fall for a broken down war hero. There’s not a lot of shifting and I miss that aspect but I appreciate the hurt/comfort that we get for both our guys.

This wasn’t as strong for me as the other books in this series or her first series (https://www.goodreads.com/series/106699-pack-mates) but it’s a great addition.

A Dreamcatchers Tale

A love worth crossing the stars for.

Taka has been a dreamcatcher and part of Team 32 for over six decades, but nobody has tempted him like Ginger—a dancer at club Zee. Too bad dreamcatchers aren’t allowed to have meaningful relationships with regular people. His willpower proves a finite resource, though, when a mission at the club means spending much more time around Ginger.

Ginger’s infatuation with Taka is unwavering. When he proves to have some paranormal skills of his own, he earns himself a place on the team—if he wants it. His decision will change his life—not to mention Taka’s—irrevocably.

But living in the now could prove an issue for a man who has as much history as Taka. Can Ginger’s determination help him make his way into Taka’s heart?

Review

I chose this based on a whole lot of potential that I glimpsed with book 1 – unfortunately it didn’t come to fruition.

The author has created an interesting world with soul sucking demons and people with long lives who use spider magic to stop them. Sounds intriguing and mystical and magical right? It’s surprisingly flat and hard to get interested in.

Part of my problem with this might be the first person narrative which is not my favorite. The writing felt very stilted and awkward a lot of the time and the dialog inauthentic.

Another of my concerns was the fact that Taka comes off as really flat despite his decades of life and adventures and Ginger comes off as a caricature. We could have delved into the “star crossed nature” of our lovers, but we don’t. We could have explored Taka’s past love, but we don’t. We barely meet/understand Ginger at all and then- pow – they’re crushing on one another and bonding.

I never felt these two connect and their romance did not ever feel real to me.

I wanted to like this – but it just fell flat for me- both the romance and the action against the monsters. If you enjoyed book 1 you might enjoy this, if book one didn’t work for you, this won’t either. IMHO book 1 was better executed.  I don’t think this stands well on it’s own and should be read as part of a series.

I’ve been pretty sure Burke was my was my mate from the first time I saw him on the screen he and his brother were using to talk to each other from two different places. But as long as my leopard doesn’t smell him, I can give us both the time we need to get our lives together. The key is not meeting him physically, until the time is right. The day I walk into my best friend’s house and smell the most amazing scent on the air, I know that I’ve run out of time to get my crap figured out. In person, he’s everything I’ve ever dreamed he’d be. And I’m all too happy to claim him. But he’s been attacked by a shifter, and just found out he’s chosen. I don’t want to spring this on him too, and end up making him run back to Georgia, like he’s always threatening. What I don’t realize, is that my fear of scaring my mate, is actually breaking his heart. Can I make it right with Burke? And can I save him from a crazed, shifter stalker, who is convinced Burke is his?

Burke Hilliard

I think I might be going crazy. Maybe it’s all the work. Maybe it’s my creepy, stalkerish lab partner. But only a mental break can explain said creepy lab partner’s face going all scary, and him attacking and biting me. Right? When I go to Purdy, Nebraska to get away from it all and visit my adopted brother Sutton, it comes with a special surprise. My brother’s best friend of five years. The one I’ve never actually met, but have been in constant battle with for almost as long. The man I’ve secretly had the biggest crush on, since the very first time he annoyed and then bossed me, while I was video chatting my brother. When I learn about shifters and mates, and what the mark on my rear-end is all about, I finally understand this draw I’ve always had to the annoying man. But if that is true, then why isn’t Foster saying anything? Am I alone in this crazy pull? And is it too much to ask for him to drop that stupid nickname, and continue to call me baby?

Warning: Mpreg elements!

Also, my books have little to no angst, and lots and lots of fluff! They are better read in order, because I kind of write them like a continuation of a story, and I don’t like to repeat explanations over and over if I can help it. No cheating, because that makes my heart hurt. Sorry, I just don’t want anyone being disappointed if they like the angst filled heart-rippers. These read more like a romantic comedy than a romantic drama.

Enjoy!! ::blowing you kisses::

Review

While I’m not reviewing each book in the series – they are all really good! I think each book can be read on it’s own, but each book adds on to the one behind it – so you might as well read them all in order!

This time we have sweet Burke and Foster. Their story was set up in book 3 and pays off here. Burke is pretty hysterical and Foster doesn’t let him get away with a thing!

If you like mpreg – this series is all about that, but not in each book, specifically.

There is some shifting but not as much as I’d like, but each story is short so…

In any case these are fun, sexy and a quick light read.

Steamy Romance: Protecting His Omega by Giovanna Reaves

Blurb: Phoenix Harcourt is a single father who was kicked out of his home when his parents found out that he was an omega. After losing his alpha mate, Phoenix turned his focus to his daughter and the successful company that was left in his care. With a threat to his life, Phoenix hires a bodyguard who wants to protect more than his body. He also want’s Phoenix’s heart.

Hired to protect an omega, Lucius Payne had one goal: do his job and nothing else. He was never one to mix business with pleasure. Moreover, finding an omega mate was not in his plans, especially when it is the man he is supposed to protect. Then his job becomes more complicated than he was expecting.

Can Lucius convince Phoenix to trust him with his heart as well as his body?

Review: So, I’m late to the party for non-shifter, mpreg stories, but this is a good one to get started with.
Phoenix was kicked out of his home at 16 because he was an omega and gay. After being taken in by Maxwell, a rich businessman (father/son relationship), Phoenix thrives and eventually takes over Maxwell’s business when he dies. Phoenix was mated once and has a little girl, Jasmine from the relationship.
Not everyone at Phoenix’s company is happy that he is the new owner, so when he starts receiving threatening letters Phoenix is forced to contact a private security company. This is how he meets Lucius, his mate.
What I liked about the story is that Phoenix is not a typical omega – yes, he knows he will submit to his alpha’s will – but he has a backbone and wouldn’t give in to the natural instinct to rollover for his alpha mate. Lucius is a patient alpha, who wants to care for his omega. There is a lot of sexual tension between the 2 men before they finally get together – mid book- but it’s worth the wait! Both men were a delight to read and Jasmine was realistically cute.
There is a surprise twist towards the end that also adds to the story (quite unique).

Luckily, I got my first taste with a good story and will likely continue to dip my toes in the sub-genre.
