Series: Men of Hidden Creek Season 4, Book 2

“What we have can’t be faked.”
Max Jackson’s life is pretty close to perfect – except that he’s secretly in love with his straight best friend and roommate. He’s got his dream job and a family he secretly pretends are his own. But they aren’t…no matter how much he might wish it were true.
After the tragic death of his wife, Parker Wilson didn’t have time to wallow in grief – not when he had two young children to raise. He’s not looking for romance or a new partner. He doesn’t need one anyway…he has his life-long buddy Max to help him through every struggle.
When Parker loses his job and can’t afford his daughter’s pricey insulin, Max suggests fake marriage for insurance coverage. Since he’s already a second parent to Parker’s cute kids, it should be easy…until the marriage becomes a little too real.
Welcome to Hidden Creek, Texas, where the heart knows what it wants, and where true love lives happily ever after. Every Men of Hidden Creek novel can be enjoyed on its own, but keep an eye out for familiar faces around town! This audiobook contains dad jokes, a pair of kids that will steal your heart, and more heat than a Texas summer.

I really love Nick Russo and in fact would not have even looked at this had it not been for him and he was as wonderful as always so… there’s that.

For the story I’d give it a weak 3 of 5 stars for the set up and first half. For the narration a 5 and an overall weak 4 – but it’s maybe only a 3.5.

Marry me for one year. Payment: $1.2 million.
Hayden Somerset is convinced the ad is a joke, but he responds anyway because, hello, $1.2 million. He’s broke, living in a tiny apartment with two roommates, and exhausted from praying his ancient car survives just one more week. His skyrocketing rent and crushing student loans aren’t helping either. At this point, there isn’t much Hayden wouldn’t do for that kind of cash.
The ad isn’t a joke. Jesse Ambrose is absolutely serious. His father, the charismatic patriarch of a powerful Hollywood dynasty, has his eye on politics, and he’s counting on California’s liberals and progressives to elect him. But Jesse knows what his father believes when cameras and voters aren’t around.
As the election looms, he’ll do anything to force the man’s hand and show the public who Isaac Ambrose really is. Anything, including marrying a stranger, so his father will make good on his promise to disown Jesse if he ever takes a husband.
Now he just has to wait for his father to take the bait…and try not to accidentally fall in love with his fake husband.

Review

In general I avoid books about Hollywood because Hollywood is generally pretty gross. However, I was totally hooked by the idea of a “mail order husband” and that the entire point was to screw over the jerk of a dad who’s trying to portray himself as a liberal while hiding his true Republican/homophobic ways.

The story was pretty believable and it’s a testament to the narrators that I’d never read the story and didn’t want to ever stop and read faster because I was enjoying his narration so much!

There were times I wanted our guys to talk to one another a bit more, but in general, I felt like this was pretty authentic and plausible. The smexy times and feels felt appropriate and added to the story well.

I loved the two narrators contributions and thought it was an amazing listen!

Highly recommended in this form!
