He didn’t want an alpha to save him, but fate had other ideas…
Braun Etting was raised to know his place as an omega by his alpha father’s cruel words and fast fists, and he expects nothing but violence from the alpha who may one day mate him. His older brother Kell mated a cruel alpha who abuses him daily, and Braun is terrified of that seemingly inevitable future. When Braun’s father dies in a car crash, leaving Braun an orphan, he’s sent to a halfway house for omegas. But on his fourth night there, he witnesses a horrifying crime that sends him fleeing to the streets alone—and edging into his first heat.
Tarek Bloom is settled in his workaholic, single lifestyle, even if it is somewhat embarrassing to be a twenty-eight year-old unmated alpha. He enjoys his job as a constable, helping people and solving problems, so he isn’t prepared for his life to flip upside-down when he walks into his beta friend Dex’s apartment to help with “a problem.”
The problem turns out to be an unmated, nearly in-heat omega orphan who Dex and his husband rescued off the street last night. The even bigger problem is that Tarek feels the mating bond for this terrified omega immediately—and he’s pretty sure the omega feels it, too. But Braun hates alphas as a general rule, and no way is he giving in to the bond. All mating leads to is violence and suffering, so no thank you. But Tarek’s gentle kindness slips under Braun’s emotional shields, and Braun begins to want. To dream. All Braun has ever known is violent alphas, but Tarek is determined to make Braun trust him—and to trust in the idea of their happily ever after.
NOTE: This is a non-shifter Omegaverse story with alpha/omega/beta dynamics, heats, knotting, and mpreg. In this world, omegas are second-class citizens with few civil rights and almost no protections under the law. Trigger warnings for physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. 67,000

Review

After running away from a “safe” Omega home, Braun is rescued by a beta couple and introduced to Tarek, an alpha. Mistrustful at first, Braun can’t help feeling the mate pull. Tarek is determined to prove that he is not like the alphas Braun is used to. I wouldn’t say this is an angsty story but there is definitely drama. There are some unresolved storylines that are setting up the next book in the series.
This is an emotional story that Is full of social injustices. There is a lot of talk about the physical and emotional abuse that the omegas and even some betas go through which can be difficult to get through at times, Especially when you find out what Braun’s brother went through. I found myself captivated and drawn into this world.

Brought together by fate, torn apart by family.

Rachel Tregarrak, Penwith pack beta and daughter of the alpha, has always called the rugged Cornish coast her home. With its beautiful landscapes, bracing sea air, and vast spaces to run, she can’t imagine living anywhere else.

After years of living with her mother in her grandfather’s pack, Sara Gallen returns to Penzance to be with her alpha father and her brothers. She wants to build their relationships, get to know the rest of her family better than occasional visits allow.

When their paths cross on the full moon, the attraction is immediate and instinctive. But Sara’s father refuses to allow such a union and forbids any further contact. Sara finds solace with her grandmother in her alpha council residence, and Rachel is sent to a London pack to keep her out of trouble. Both women feel the desperate ache of an uncompleted bond, but unless they find a way to be together, it’ll fade to nothing and their connection will be lost.

Review

This FF novella is a great addition to Annabelle Jacobs’s much-loved paranormal series!

There are a lot of shapeshifter romances out there, but Annabelle Jacobs’s Regent’s Park Pack series really stands out. She has done a tremendous job at the worldbuilding for this series, creating an original and unique shifter universe with a complex judicial system where shifters and humans live together in precarious harmony.

Much like in the real world, there are still those in this fictional world that hold a narrow-minded & bigoted view on women’s rights and value.
Sara and Rachel find that out the hard way, when Sara’s father, and alpha, pulls out all the stops to prevent them from being together. Not letting little things like the potential for a mating bond, or respect for his adult daughter’s wishes and happiness hold him back.
As a consequence, there’s a constant sense of urgency running through the story, because Sara and Rachel can’t complete their bond and so there’s always that worry that their connection might start to fade.

I love how self-sacrificing and responsible both Sara and Rachel are, putting the safety and well-being of others first. They long for each other so badly, and hurt so much because of their forced separation, yet they never give in to their own desire to mate. Instead they wait to take that final step towards their own personal happiness until it is safe to do so, when all risks to their packs have finally been dealt with.
Rachel and Sara are very sweet and sexy together. They make a lovely couple and I hope to see more of them in books to come.

It was great to see some of the other pack members again as well and reconnect with old favorites.
I especially enjoyed catching up with Nathan and watching him grow so much. I hope we’ll get to see him as a beta soon, leading his own unit.
Sara’s grandmother, Celia (Alpha Cornell), is another amazing secondary character, strong, fair-minded and … creative with rules. I loved that she teamed up with Cam to try their hand at a bit of matchmaking!

Dog Days Audiobook by TA Moore Narrated by Derrick McClain

The world ends not with a bang, but with a downpour. Tornadoes spin through the heart of London, New York cooks in a heat wave that melts tarmac, and Russia freezes under an ever-thickening layer of permafrost. People rally at first – organizing aid drops and evacuating populations – but the weather is only getting worse.
In Durham, mild-mannered academic Danny Fennick has battened down to sit out the storm. He grew up in the Scottish Highlands, so he’s seen harsh winters before. Besides, he has an advantage. He’s a werewolf. Or, to be precise, a were-dog. Less impressive, but still useful.
Except the other werewolves don’t believe this is any ordinary winter, and they’re coming down over the Wall to mark their new territory. Including Danny’s ex, Jack – the Crown Prince Pup of the Numitor’s pack – and the prince’s brother, who wants to kill him.
A wolf winter isn’t white. It’s red as blood.

Review

This is probably more just a case of “it’s me not you” but this was NOT for me. Though it sounded interesting and very probably well written it was not the storyline I like. I like fun, adventure, a little angst but most importantly romance.

I love shifters and the cover for this is awesome and the blurb sounded great… but this is very dark and way more “dystopian” than I like. I wasn’t getting any sort of strong romance vibe and it was too dark for me.

Derrick McClain was doing a fantastic job with his narration giving all sorts of yummy accents to a large variety of characters but though I tried a few times to get through this I never could.

No rating.

DNF. Not my cup of tea.

When a rare day out goes disastrously wrong, the men have to fight for the survival of one of their own. Their actions spark an appearance by the Conclave, leaving the Avanti’s future in the hands of those who choose to destroy them.
Tate will give up everything to save his friends, even if it means losing Dariux and a love he never imagined he would find.
With half the conclave determined to punish the Offworlders, they have to rely on new found friendships. The question is, will it be enough to overcome the trouble that seems determined to take them down?

May your journey be swift and uneventful, may you all get one step closer to your truemates and may good triumph over evil. Remember love conquers all.

Review

This is the second book in the series and it focuses on Tate, the jokester of the group. But he is also the most deadly in his fighting skills. The scene where he is eventually captured shows off his fighting skills, and leaves the reader in awe of his skills

The jokester side of Tate plays out whenever there isn’t a life or death scene playing out. Mostly directed towards Dariux. They are True Mates, which is similar to Fated Mates. But Tate’s jokester side hides a man who is fighting the demons of his past, a man who doesn’t believe he is worthy of love. When they finally get together the words almost steam off the page.

There are subplots weaved throughput this story, with all 6 of the Avanti settling into living on the planet they crashed on. Local politics, adjusting to living with a low tech environment and animals that have as much personality as the humans. This series is an ongoing story overall and each book focusing on a member of the Avanti finding their True mate
