Blurb
A high-stakes case of industrial espionage ties them together, but before they can pursue their attraction, they must find out who’s pulling the strings.

Devon Donaldson doesn’t know how a folio of stolen corporate secrets found its way into his bag, and certainly can’t think of anyone who’d want to frame him. The trouble is, he has to convince Powers McPherson.

Devon’s firm hired Powers to investigate the theft of a new banking system, and so far Devon is his only lead. While Powers’s gut tells him Devon is innocent, he has no intention of letting Devon out of his sight… for more than one reason. Working together to get Devon’s life back leads to feelings far beyond cooperation. But before they can act on them, they need to find the group of thieves’ intent on ruining Devon’s reputation.

Review
Its no secret that I am a big fan of Andrew Grey!! I found Pulling Strings to be an entertaining romantic mystery. Andrew Grey is great at creating characters full of depth. Devon and Powers are both very well written characters. The other stand out character is Powers twin sister Lucy. She provides a lot of comic relief, which keeps this book from being to heavy. There is a little angst, but it resolves quickly. This book had me guessing the whole time. I had no clue who the bad guy would end up being. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great romance with good dose of sleuthing and mystery.

A Story from the On Wings Saga
Prequel to On Wings of Thunder

Every story has a beginning….Dragons. Angels fear them and demons follow them. Formidable beasts of incredible power, they fight each other to the death for dominance. But dwindling dragon numbers cause alarm among the angelic ranks. Surely when the dragons have finished killing each other, the victors will search elsewhere for conquest… maybe even the Upper Realm.

Roland, an angelic artist of significant talent, doesn’t know what to believe. Part of him longs to see a dragon in person, and his peaceful life of contentment is wearing thin. He wants passion, desire, adventure, and love. He gets more than he bargained for when he and his sister are ambushed and captured by demons, and they bring him to a creature who surpasses Roland’s wildest imaginings.

But the mighty dragon Asagoroth is not all that he seems. Something sparks between him and Roland. Something neither anticipated. Something that will shake the cosmos to its core.

Review

If you’ve read Wings of Thunder you know that Roland is later reincarnated into Trystan and Trystan and Asa fall in love all over again in another life time.

This is their back story and it is as dramatic and full of angst and love as the – first? – second? – book.

I think even people who’ve not read the series will appreciate this book and want to read the original.

It’s definitely a lot of drama and angst and you really need to like angel stories for this to appeal.

Deacon Daniels, onetime lead singer and idol to his teenage fans, saw his career and reputation ruined when a reporter’s exposé led to a devastating scandal. Without money or a job, a heartbroken Deacon has lost custody of his baby niece. And just when Deacon thinks his life can’t get any worse, a stalker’s threatening messages escalate to murder.

Mav only agreed to one meeting, but his protective instincts kick in, along with an attraction to Deacon. When the body count increases, however, Mav is unsure he is up to the task of protecting Deacon from a killer. But it is too late for Mav to step away, now that he’s lost his heart, and he must find the strength to reassure Deacon and his niece that they are in safe hands no matter the cost.

Review
This is a fast moving opposites attract story with a mystery driving it.

There’s a lot of sexual tension then a fair bit of dirty talk.

For me, there was more mystery than I generally like, but Victoria Sue is a great author and I was still engaged.

Michael Pauley does a nice job narrating this – there’s a lot of drama and that is suited by his narration style.

Overall I think fans of mysteries, crime dramas and hurt/comfort will enjoy this.

Recent Release: An Uncommon Whore By Belinda McBride

An Uncommon Whore Story

Pasha is a slave, whoring for travelers at the most treacherous bar on Warlan. The day Pasha spots the dangerous pirate in the bar, he knows he mustn’t let the stranger slip away, no matter what he must do to draw his attention.

Captain Griffin Hawke spent the better part of a decade searching for his lost king, only to find Helios Dayspring crouched between his legs, swathed in the robes and shackles of a whore. Though he is appalled by the downfall of his king, Grif falls for the sensual creature who has taken his place. After a brutal invasion stripped his people of nearly everything, they desperately need Helios to lead them. But returning him to throne means smuggling him off the planet, disabling the chip that keeps him submissive and forgetful. They will face old enemies, traitors, and greedy opportunists who’d like to strip their new planet of its wealth.

It might mean Grif losing his lover… and they’ve both lost too much already.

Second Edition

First Edition published by Loose Id LLC, January 2010.

Review
This book started off strong with a good amount of action and reveals. Pasha, the whore is discovered to be Helios a missing king and the Captain who finds him happens to be his long time find and companion. The pace slows a little towards the middle of the book as the couple trys to figure a way to get Helios’ memories back. The ending, which had been built up as Helios having to fight to get his throne back was a bit lackluster (but there looks to be a sequel so maybe the fight takes place there).

Occasionally, there comes a book that completely floors you. This was that book for me. Based on the title and blurb I already had an idea that I was going to have to force myself to finish this book.

Man was I wrong!!

I stayed up all night just to finish this one.

I really like the world that Belinda McBride has created. This book was scorching hot while still being romantic. The characters, Griffin and Helios were both very well written, you can just feel the longing, pain and hope that these two shares. Like I said above, my biggest criticism was the ending. It was a pretty big let down for me.
I strongly recommend this book!!

Audiobook: Hearts Untouched Author: Andrew Grey Narrator: Greg Tremblay

An accident crushed Duncan’s Olympic dreams and landed him in a chair, but he knows it’s time to get his life back on track – and he has a plan in mind. Working with his friend Todd, an Olympic skeleton racer, on a promotional campaign will not only help Duncan regain some direction, but it’ll give Todd the financial boost he desperately needs. The sport Todd loves is draining his resources – so much so that he’s thinking of giving up racing just to make ends meet.

As the two men work together, their friendship blossoms into much more, and suddenly the future is looking brighter than it has in a long time. But just when love, happiness, and success seem within their grasp, the USOC steps in with plans to stop their campaign. That’ll mean an end not just to Duncan’s business, but to Todd’s dreams…and Duncan isn’t about to let that happen to the man who means everything to him.

Review
I’m not sure how to review this book. It was easy to listen to. The story flows with no great surprises. A good friends to lovers story that I get the feeling only possible because of Duncan’s injury. It meant Duncan looked at life and at Todd differently. It was nice briefly catching up with characters from the previous books. I did wonder why Duncan wasn’t more angry that he couldn’t compete any more but Todd still was. This is a story where everyone is nice, apart from the one ‘villain’ in the story. But even then they weren’t terrible. There is also a battle against the unjust actions of the USOC, again not so terrible. Overall a pleasant story without much bite.
Greg Tremblay’s narration is as wonderful as usual. He gives us the personality of each character. He fleshes out the story with his performance and it is so well done that I am happy to listen to him.

Recent Release: The Doctor’s Orders (Copper Point Medical #3) by Heidi Cullinan

Blurb

Once upon a time Nicholas Beckert was the boy who stole kisses from Jared Kumpel beneath the bleachers. Now Jared’s a pediatrician and Nick is the hospital CEO who won’t glance his way. But everything changes when they’re stranded alone in a hospital elevator. Ten years of cold shoulders melt away, and old passions rekindle into hot flames. Once out of the elevator, Jared has no intention of letting Nick get away. He wants a full, open relationship, which is a step further than Nick is willing to go, and it looks like the same arguments that drove them apart in high school might resurface. Jared’s determined not to let it happen again. He won’t order Nick from his shell—he’ll listen to what he needs to feel safe. Maybe this time he can prescribe his lover a happily ever after.

Review
The Doctor’s Order was a great conclusion(maybe?) to the Copper Point Medical series. There’s been a certain amount of tension between the two main characters, Jared and Nick, throughout the previous two books and we finally get their story. I loved the elevator scene and how that seemed to get Nick to finally prioritize his life and how Jared fits into it. This book was the steamiest book of the series but still pretty tame considering this is a Heidi Cullinan book.
I’ve really enjoyed the variety of characters this series has featured, and I sincerely hope that we get to see more from them in the future.

Noah Hitchens loves the New York City life he worked hard to build. But when his father dies and leaves him a bankrupt bookstore in their sleepy Georgia hometown, Noah knows he has to save it. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know anything about business. He finds unlikely help in Henry, the man who owned Stardust Books before his 1966 murder, and Kyle St. James, a shy but kind-hearted out-of-towner with a past almost as mysterious as Henry’s.

Kyle came to Aster, Georgia, looking for redemption. On the run and out of hope, he’s just trying to get on with his life. Then he meets Noah, a ghost, and a big sloppy lab named Jake who redefine his idea of living. But his past is closing in, and when it finds him, they could lose everything

Review
I found this to be a sweet and quirky story. Noah has a highly pressured job in New York which he loves. He is settled until he gets the call that no one wants to get. His father died suddenly. I didn’t expect it but I got quite emotional at this point. I was reading around the time of year my own father died a few years ago. And I really didn’t expect it to trigger me but it did. Having said that Noah’s grief was expressed beautifully I felt for him and the position he was in sorting out his father’s affairs. The quirkinesses comes when Noah comes across Henry. Once Noah gets over the shock Henry helps him understand the book business.
Kyle is sweet and shy but he has a secret that he is desperate to keep. Noah just takes Kyle as he is and as their friendship grows so does their feelings for each other. As his past catches up with him and aspects of Noah’s past affect his business the story races to their happy ending.
Despite my personal emotional state I found this to be a very lovely story and recommend it.

Recent Release: Paint It Black by Amy Lane

Blurb

Everybody thinks Mackey Sanders’s Outbreak Monkey is the last coming of Rock ’n’ Roll Jesus, but Cheever Sanders can’t wait to make a name for himself where nobody expects him to fill his famous brothers’ shoes. He’s tired of living in their shadow.

Blake Manning has been one of Outbreak Monkey’s lead guitarists for ten years. He got this gig on luck and love, not talent. So hearing that Cheever is blowing through Outbreak Monkey’s hard-earned money in an epic stretch of partying pisses him off.

Blake shows up at Cheever’s nonstop orgy to enforce some rules, but instead of a jaded punk, he finds a lost boy as talented at painting as Mackey is at song-making, and terrified to let anybody see the real him. Childhood abuse and a suicide attempt left Cheever on the edge of survival—a place Blake knows all too well.

Both men have to make peace with being second banana in the public eye. Can they find the magic of coming absolute first with each other?

Review

Beneath the Stain is one of my all time favorite books, not just Amy book, but all time. I was ECSTATIC to find she’d written more! The story takes place several years and several kids later for the band and it’s members.

Just as Stain ripped our hearts out, so too does Paint it Black.

Poor Cheever. Gah. Remember how we hated him in Stain? Well, there was a HORRIBLE reason he was such a dick. That part of the story was very, very hard to read and it made Grant and Mackey seem only a little sad.

I loved the slight switch here where – once things are a little stabilized, Cheever is the one explaining life to Blake and helping him to see the Truth.

It was fantastic seeing the boys again and watching them with their kids and finding out how Briony keeps them all under control! I can’t wait for the audio and I can’t recommend the book highly enough!

Recent Release: Four by Tia Fielding

Blurb
A Love by Numbers Story When unlikely attraction blossoms between a twentysomething genderqueer tattoo artist and an older, small-town veterinarian, both are forced to face their pasts for a chance at a loving future. Four years ago Padraig Donovan lost his husband, the only man he’d ever been with. Now his life consists of the work he loves, a big empty house, and the possibility of a lonely future. Kaos’s experiments with makeup landed him in the hospital at the hands of his disapproving ex. With nowhere else to turn, he flees to Acker, Wisconsin… and runs into a sexy widower and the kindest man he’s ever met. Padraig and Kaos know there’s something worth exploring between them, and as they raise a puppy and deal with the ups and downs of their respective jobs, they fit into each other’s lives in ways they never expected. Being with Kaos—who is so different than the guys he’s always been attracted to—opens up an exciting new world for Padraig. But can he convince Kaos to trust another man with his body… let alone his heart

Review
This is a slow and steady story about two men who have suffered in their life. Because of this the story contains triggers which are sensitively dealt with. I like that this is not a story where finding ‘the one’ means all is cured. Both Kaos and Padraig work work hard at building their relationship. Bonding over the care of a cute puppy. I think that because the story is so steady where there’s no drama or misunderstandings it took me a while to get into it. When I did I found it easy reading and fell for Kaos’s determination and Padraig’s gentleness. Kaos has found a place where he can be himself and found acceptance. Padraig is ready to let go of his husband who died four years ago and move on. Not having read the first book, Ten, I thought the town of Acker was portrayed very well. There are a lot of characters that I assume were introduced in Ten, especially Makai and Emil with secondary parts. I think Four can be read as a stand alone story.

Recent Release: Survive and Conquer by Andrew Grey

Dreamspinner

https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/survive-and-conquer-by-andrew-grey-10614-b

Blurb

Newton DeSantis was on the ground when the towers collapsed on 9/11. Though he still carries the scars on his body and his heart, he’s determined to ease some of the world’s suffering. Now a social worker and father to two children with special needs, he’s doing his best. But when one of his cases needs a good lawyer, Newton turns to Chase for help.

Family law attorney Chase Matthews is a rising star, and he’s in high demand. Still, Newton is very persuasive, and Chase takes his case pro bono. Everything about the other man appeals to Chase, but he’s determined to keep the relationship professional—even though, after meeting Newton’s kids, he wants to be a part of their lives.

Chase’s job doesn’t always allow him to pick his clients, though, and a case that could make him partner will put him on the opposite side of the courtroom from Newton—along with everything he believes in and the future they could build together.

Review

Another great story by Andrew Grey. Newton and Chase are both dealing with demons from their past. Newton is struggling with PTSD, while dealing with the stress of working as a social worker and being a father to two special needs children. While Newton seems a bit meek, he starts off the story almost bullying Chase, a well-respected attorney into helping him with one of his cases. Chase is so understanding and sweet with the children. Like most of Andrew’s stories there is some drama stirred up by a family member but it’s not overtly angsty. You really can’t go wrong with an Andrew Grey book!!
