As Prince of the Bear Shifters, I knew the time would come for me to prove myself worthy of my crown. I expected my quest to be perilous. What I didn’t expect was for it to take me up into Espen Mountain, a place that’s brought me nothing but grief and terrible nightmares. Not only must I find the five magical ingredients, but I have to do so alongside Saer, a mysterious and charming shifter coyote summoned by the king to be my guide. But who is Saer, and why do I feel as if we’ve met before?

SAER

Crushing on Prince Bernd from afar was one thing. Being given the responsibility of saving the prince and his kingdom was a whole other story. Banished from my kingdom by my own prince years ago, I never imagined I would be summoned to help Bernd. What could I possibly offer a prince? How was I supposed to save him? I was no one. A shifter with no place to call home. What I did know was that I would do everything in my power to help Bernd succeed on his quest. All I had to do was stop crushing on the guy, find the magical ingredients hidden up a dangerous mountain, and save his heart. What could go wrong?

Review

I was so happy when I saw this had been released! I loved book 1 and was psyched to see the series continue!

These two face a similar journey to those in book 1 – just as funny, and touching, and magical and sweet. Add in a dash of smexy and you’ve got it all!

Super fun, great addition to the series. This is absolutely a stand alone and I CANNOT wait for the next book where it looks like our King gets his own story!!!!

Recent Release: The Professor’s Green Card Marriage by Heidi Cullinan

Dreamspinner

https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/the-professors-green-card-marriage-by-heidi-cullinan-11542-b

Blurb

I’ll marry you.

Professor Valentyn Shevchenko isn’t sure how to react when, after months of ineffective flirting, the cute barista’s first words to him are a proposal. In many ways, Peter Grunberg is the solution to all his problems. With his work visa inexplicably denied, Valentyn is running out of options to keep from being deported. But is a green card marriage really the answer? Is it still a marriage of convenience when he’s this attracted to his potential spouse?

Peter came to his uncle’s coffee shop in Boulder, Colorado, to reset his life after his struggles with selective mutism returned with a vengeance. He never meant his first words to the handsome ecology professor to be an offer of marriage, but he’s not backing out now. It doesn’t matter that Peter struggles to find words. He can say everything he needs to with his body.

Though this relationship may have started out back-to-front, Valentyn and Peter are determined to make their fake marriage real. But one misstep in their immigration interview could bring everything crashing down. They’ll have to hope that their love is enough to overcome all their obstacles and give them the prize they’ve both been dreaming of: a certified happy ever after.

Review

I wasn’t sure if I would like this book since the fake relationship/marriage trope is probably one of my least favorites. However, since this was written by one of my all-time favorite authors, I gave it a go.

This book was AMAZING!!!! The characters were great. Each one is dealing with very different problems. Val (no way am I trying to spell his full name) is scared of having to return to his home country. He comes off as almost paranoid a few times, thinking the government is reading his emails and listening to his conversations. Peter seems to be this quiet, shy guy but you find out that he is this passionate rabble rouser but due to his selective mutism he is stuck only being able to voice his opinions online or to those very close to him. This was a very fast pace story. Peter and Val were spouting “I love you’s” very early on in the story, which isn’t typical for a Heidi book. The two have crazy chemistry and it’s fascinating to see how they work out their relationship.
Highly recommend!!!!

Recent Release: Bitter Pill (PsyCop #11) by Jordan Castillo Price

Good Reads

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/49321623-bitter-pill

Blurb

There’s a new drug on the streets called Kick. The side effects are so brutal, most folks only try it once…unless they’re psychic. Then they do it until it kills them.

Psychic medium Victor Bayne is well acquainted with pharmaceuticals, from the Auracel that blocks his ghosts to the Seconal that offers him a blissful nights’ sleep. But he’s managed to steer clear of street drugs…so far.

Jacob Marks has a medicine cabinet filled with every over-the-counter remedy known to man, but none of them are doing much for his mood—and his long, fruitless days of combing through records at The Clinic are taking a heavy toll.
But their lackluster investigation does have one silver lining: a front row seat at The Clinic when the first Kick overdose comes in. And as scary as the drug might be, if it truly does augment psychic ability, the appeal is not lost on Vic.

Because the very first hit never killed anyone.

Where did Kick come from? Why is it so addictive? And why is everyone at The Clinic acting so darn shady? That’s what Vic intends to find out. And if he’s lucky, he can also expose a shadowy figure from Camp Hell.

Unfortunately, the demons of his pill addiction might prove just as deadly as his long-buried history. He thought he’d managed to ditch that pernicious habit. But what if it was only lurking in the shadows, waiting for the best time to rear its ugly head?

Review

I was so glad to find out Jordan was continuing the series! First, there is a lot left for Vic to learn about himself and second – there’s a lot of crazy ghosts out there he needs to meet!

But really, I also love that he and Jacob are still learning about one another, too. Their relationship keeps growing and changing and yet still manages to be hot while sweet at the same time.

The mystery and mayhem in this are compelling and I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for the audio!

Highly recommended!

Recent Release: Back in Blacks by Rhys Ford

Dreamspinner

https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/back-in-black-by-rhys-ford-11514-b

Blurb: McGinnis Investigations: Book One

There are eight million stories in the City of Angels but only one man can stumble upon the body of a former client while being chased by a pair of Dobermans and a deranged psycho dressed as a sheep.

That man is Cole McGinnis.
Since his last life-threatening case years ago, McGinnis has married the love of his life, Jae-Min Kim, consulted for the LAPD, and investigated cases as a private detective for hire. Yet nothing could have prepared him for the shocking discovery of a dead, grandmotherly woman at his feet and the cascade of murders that follows, even if he should have been used to it by now.

Now he’s back in the dark world of murder and intrigue where every bullet appears to have his name on it and every answer he digs up seems to only create more questions. Hired by the dead woman’s husband, McGinnis has to figure out who is behind the crime spree. As if the twisted case of a murdered grandmother isn’t complicated enough, Death is knocking on his door, and each time it opens, Death is wearing a new face, leaving McGinnis to wonder who he can actually trust.

Review: Cole’s back!!! And with him is the rest of the gang – Jae-Min, Bobby, Claudia, literally everyone. So happy to see a new story featuring one of my favourite PIs.
The story is vintage Rhys – lush descriptions of the area, lots of banter, sleuthing and dodging bullets – but also heralds a new look at Cole’s life, both personally and professionally.
I loved the murder/mystery aspect of Back in Black, especially as it kept me guessing, also was happy to know of the mentioned characters from another book (Murder and Mayhem series; not that you have to read said books).
So glad Cole is back; actually, he never left since I periodically reread and relisten to the first set of books.

I can safely say I’m going to enjoy this second ride with Cole and the Gang  (no 70’s band were harmed with that pun!).

Recent Release: Socks for an Otter by Posy Roberts

Good Reads
https://www.goodreads.com/review/new/50238860-socks-for-an-otter

Blurb: He fell from his ivory tower and landed in the gutter.
But Sebastian would rather be homeless and hungry than clueless.
On his way to the food pantry, a guy on his cell phone runs into him and triggers his prickly side. As a sign of goodwill, Louis offers to cook for him. But all Sebastian sees is the privilege he used to have.

This isn’t a fairytale. Louis isn’t Prince Charming. And Sebastian can make it on his own.
But it’s been days since he’s had a hot meal. And a blizzard is coming.
Will Sebastian’s pride be his appetizer?

Review: I loved this story! It is a touching story, but not maudlin. The plight of the homeless is told in a simple but impactful way.
Seb and Louis make a great couple. Seb reads older than his age (23) – not in a bad way – showing that life on the street can and will make you grow up real fast. Louis is a caretaker – always needing to be needed. The one time he failed to be there for his loved one resulted in tragedy. With Seb, he has a chance to feel needed again, though Seb wasn’t very accepting of what he thought of as charity. This makes for some prickly interactions between both men, but their simmering attraction and willingness to listen to each other helps them forge a relationship.
Lovely story!

Holiday Review: Wishing on a Dream by Michele Notaro

Good reads

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/48705196-wishing-on-a-dream?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=jBg850pafy&rank=1

Blurb

I can’t really complain about my life; I have a job I love and a best friend that fills the void of my nonexistent family, but sometimes I’m lonelier than I like to admit. Especially with the holiday season approaching, I can’t help but wish I had someone special to share it with.
My friend gives me a snow globe with a man and a snowy owl inside, and for some bizarre reason, this man starts showing up every night when I close my eyes. It’s… not real, but I can’t seem to get the guy out of my head. It probably shouldn’t surprise me that my brain conjures up the perfect man in my dreams… well, almost perfect if he’d stop claiming to be a warlock. But the crazy thing is that all of it—that he—feels so real.
When I start falling for the man, the warlock, I can’t help but wish that what we have in my dreams could be a reality. I know it can’t, but at least when I’m asleep, I can be with him—with Alaric.
Although this book is part of A Snow Globe Christmas series, it is a complete stand alone and it isn’t a requirement that you read the previous books to follow along. We wish everyone a happy holiday season.
Review

I loved this!  It was magical and sweet and full of surprising moments.  For me, the story was fresh and offered a new twist on a familiar theme – sort of like a genie trapped in a bottle.

It was fun watching these two fall in love and watching “Ric” explore the modern world.

Highly recommended!

Holiday Review: Finding Yuletide Karol by L.A. Merrill

Dreamspinner:

https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/2019-advent-calendar-homemade-for-the-holidays-full-set-11522-b

Blurb

Fifty years ago, during the Vietnam War, Lee Elbridge fell in love with an Army cook nicknamed Yuletide Karol, but they haven’t seen each other since.

Now, led by a clue in an old cookbook, Lee sets off on a road trip to find his lost love. He arrives on Karol’s upstate New York farm to find preparations for a handfasting in full swing, and is mistaken for the wedding planner’s assistant. As Lee is roped into folding hemp napkin goats and mashing fresh sweet potatoes, he is welcomed by Karol’s large, eccentric family of witches and pagans. When Lee and Karol finally get a moment alone, Lee tells him the truth, but it will take more than a little Yuletide magick to bring them together again after almost a lifetime.

Review
This was an amazing read! Lee’s is suffering through another work Christmas party, when he is given an old cookbook, which just so happens to contain the one thing he has always wanted….the last name of the man he fell in love with 50 years ago. He, then embarks on a quest to find this man.
I haven’t read a novella in a long while, if ever that touched me as much as this one did. Finding Yuletide Karol is an absolutely beautiful story.

Recent Release: Fall Through Spring by Amy Lane

Dreamspinner

https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/fall-through-spring-by-amy-lane-11443-b

Blurb
A Winter Ball Novel
As far as Clay Carpenter is concerned, his abusive relationship with food is the best thing he’s got going. When a good friend starts kicking his ass into gear, Clay is forced to reexamine everything he learned about food and love—and that’s right when he meets troubled graduate student, Dane Hayes.
Dane Hayes doesn’t do the whole monogamy thing, but the minute he meets Clay Carpenter, he’s doing the friend thing in spades. The snarky, scruffy bastard not only gets Dane’s wacky sense of humor, he also accepts the things Dane can’t control—like the bipolar disorder Dane has been trying to manage for the past six years.
Dane is hoping for more than friendship, and Clay is looking at him with longing that isn’t platonic. They’re both positive they’re bad at relationships, but with the help of forbidden desserts and new medication regimens, they prove outstanding at being with each other. But can they turn their friendship into the love neither of them has dared to hope for?

Review

Now this is the Amy I love! I LOVED book 1 – Winter Ball and was a bit disappointed in book 2. I thought the characters were amazing and was not a huge fan of Terry – even though they definitely all get a happy ending I wasn’t sure Mason and Terry are a “forever” couple.

First, Amy kinda addresses that in this book – IMHO. Through the eyes of Dane and Carpenter we see their worries for that couple, too. Second, I’m SOOOOO glad Amy decided to give Dane his own full story. Sure – a lot of it we speculated about in Mason’s book – but here we get to see it really evolve.

Carpenter is such an amazing guy. Wow. He puts up with a lot of BS from Dane and he will have to continue to do so for a long time. However, I loved how Amy shows us WHY he’s worth the trouble.

I also LOVED the frank discussion about both Carpenter’s issues and Dane’s. We get no happy ever after for those problems – they are a constant work in progress. I thought that Carpenter’s take on his body was insightful and realistic and that struggle with the clothes in his closet was SPOT ON! Man – how many sizes do we all have “just in case” – well maybe not all of us – but I sure do!

The feelz, the smexy times, and the HEA are all wonderful and though you don’t HAVE to read books 1 and 2 – I think you should read book 2 to really appreciate the nuances in this book 3.

Highly recommended to fans of the author, angst, mental illness, body image stress, cookies and animals!

Recent Release: Best Man (Close Proximity #1) by Lily Morton

GOOD READS

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/48316789-best-man

Blurb
Zeb Evans doesn’t do messy.

The product of a disorganized and chaotic childhood, Zeb likes order and control, and as the boss of his own employment agency he can give that to himself. Life runs along strict lines and he never mixes business with pleasure. Everything in his life lives in neat, alphabetized boxes. Until Jesse.

Jesse Reed is Zeb’s complete opposite. He’s chaos personified. A whirling cyclone of disorder. He’s also charming and funny and a very unwanted distraction.

Which is why it comes as a complete surprise to Zeb to find himself asking Jesse to pose as his boyfriend for a few days in the country at a wedding.

Zeb doesn’t do impulsive, but as the time away progresses, he finds himself increasingly drawn to the merry and irreverent Jesse. But can he bring himself to break the hard-won lessons he’s learnt in life? And even if he can, how could Jesse be attracted to him anyway? He’s so much older than Jesse, not to mention being his boss.

From the bestselling author of the Mixed Messages and Finding Home series comes a warm and funny romance about one man’s fight for control and another man’s determination to circumvent it.

This is the first book in the Close Proximity series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Review
This book was a fun, sweet read…everything I expect from Lily Morton!!
I loved all the pining in this book. Both Jesse and Zeb have mutual crushes on each other but don’t act on it for years!!! I don’t always like fake boyfriend stories, since they all seem the same, but Lily weaved a lot of humor into this story so this one standout. There are some wonderful side characters introduced in this story, hopefully they all get their happy endings too!
Cannot recommend this one enough!!!
