Omega Born by CR Guiliano

omega bornBlurb

Arri had been abused and picked on all his life. Born a runt, and then maturing into an omega, he was cast out of his pack. Figuring he’d not find another pack willing to take him in, he struggled to make a life for himself in the human world.
If he didn’t have bad luck, he had no luck at all. Jobs were hard to come by, and he wasn’t able to keep them for long, his omega empathy causing humiliating meltdowns.
He’d been robbed, mugged, and nearly raped too many times to count. Arri’s wolf was fundamentally broken, with no way to emerge, or protect him, finally withdrawing deep within him and remaining silent.
Then, a day came when things changed. Answering yet another employment ad, he was stunned to find the source of the advertisement was a beta wolf, then was shocked further when he was presented before the alpha of the Woodlynn pack. He’d heard rumors about this pack, the alpha considered one of the strongest on the continent.
He believed the rumors after meeting the large male.
Arri’s silent wolf had awakened, whispering to him, calling the alpha, mate, which was ridiculous. Alphas didn’t mate with lowly omegas. Especially male omegas, even though Arri was perfectly capable of giving an alpha pups, or so he’d been told by the old ex-beta he’d befriended. But then again, male omegas were rare, and thought little of, viewed as weak, considered unnatural. So, he would ignore his wolf, do his job, and keep his head down, not causing Alpha Dryden any cause to fire him.
Dryden knew there was something different about the assistant his beta, Vann, had brought to him. He was human, yet he smelled of wolf. But not a scent Dryden had ever experienced before. Vann hadn’t seemed to notice, though Dryden suspected his beta was still angry at Dryden insisting on a human assistant.
How could he tell his beta he’d felt an uneasiness in his pack, a danger that he couldn’t put his finger on, and didn’t want to trust any pack-mates to handle his affairs?
As time passed, his instincts that something was wrong within his pack grew, along with the certainty that Arri was not what he seemed.
It was when Dryden was visiting another pack, tremulous negotiations for an alliance in the works, and Arri was attacked, that the truth came out. Dryden’s assistant was an omega wolf. And not just any omega, but a Fae Omega, which would be the reason Dryden hadn’t known.
Omega wolves were rare, and most packs banished them for their weaknesses. But a Fae Omega was unheard of, most believing them myths. The Fae had died out a long time ago, and for an omega wolf to be born with Fae blood was incredible.
But that wasn’t Dryden’s biggest problem. The moment Arri had shifted, Dryden’s wolf went into the blood-mate fever, the need to claim the omega the only thing he was capable of thinking about.
But to claim Arri, Dryden would have to fight the alpha of Arri’s home pack, and he wasn’t sure he could win. And, then there was the unknown threat within his own pack that he still needed to figure out.

Well, there’s no need to “re-cap” this book, the “blurb” does enough to tell you pretty much exactly what’s going to happen.

I liked this book. There were times when I was pretty annoyed that Arri didn’t just ‘fess up to being a wolf, especially when it became clear that Dryden might be in danger and…I got tired of Arri being involved in one dangerous situation after another…and I got frustrated that Dryden kept having sex with other people… and I really wanted the couple to have more time together.  I felt a bit cheated that we only got a small glimpse of them as a happy couple (expecting a baby!) for a moment before the book ends.

But… it was a fun mpreg book, full of angsty omega self-esteem issues and lusty alpha mating drives.

So if you’re looking for some hot shifter mpreg action I recommend giving this a go.

Dirty Deeds (Book 4 Cole McGinnis Series) by Rhys Ford Narrated by Greg Tremblay

dirty deedsBlurb

Sheila Pinelli needed to be taken out.
Former cop turned private investigator Cole McGinnis never considered committing murder. But six months ago, when Jae-Min’s blood filled his hands and death came knocking at his lover’s door, killing Sheila Pinelli became a definite possibility.
While Sheila lurks in some hidden corner of Los Angeles, Jae and Cole share a bed, a home, and most of all, happiness. They’d survived Jae’s traditional Korean family disowning him and plan on building a new life – preferably one without the threat of Sheila’s return hanging over them.
Thanks to the Santa Monica police mistakenly releasing Sheila following a loitering arrest, Cole finally gets a lead on Sheila’s whereabouts. That is, until the trail goes crazy, and he’s thrown into a tangle of drugs, exotic women, and more death. Regardless of the case going sideways, Cole is determined to find the woman he once loved as a sister and get her out of their lives once and for all.

In this, the fourth book, Cole and Jae are finally a couple. They’ve said the ILYs, they are living together, and they are making it work. FINALLY.
There are still hurdles for them, mostly in dealing with some loose ends from Cole’s past, namely his ex-partner’s wife. She shot Jae in the last book and is still out on the run. They need to catch her because she won’t rest until Cole pays and Cole can’t afford to lose Jae – he won’t make it.

Bobby is starting something up… he’s hinting at it and we find out more about it in book 5 (See review here: .

I loved this book so much! It’s so refreshing to see our lovers together and so openly expressing their feelings. All the secondary players come out to play including Ichi and Claudia and Bobby (of course).

Jae and Cole’s chemistry is off the charts and Greg Tremblay does an absolutely amazing job of delivering AGAIN on the audio.  I can only say it so many ways, but he is a true voice actor and that is so rare for our genre.  He stands out with a few as one of the very, very best.

For fans of the series this is an absolute must and I have to say – if you haven’t tried the audio version of a beloved book before – try this series. It is pure magic!

Embracing His Syn (Nothing Special Book 2) by AE Via

embracing synBlurb
(This story contains characters from previously published novel ‘Nothing Special’ but Embracing His Syn is a stand-alone novel.)

Sergeant Corbin ‘Syn’ Sydney transferred from the Philadelphia Police Department as soon as he’d heard there was going to be an opening on Lieutenant Cashel Godfrey and Lieutenant Leonidis Day’s Atlanta Narcotics Task Force. Syn’s primary goal in his life has been to be a great cop. There has been no time for relationships, romance, or especially love.

Syn was dedicated to his new force, focused and ready to back up God and Day as their third in command, but what he wasn’t ready for was the feelings he got from seeing the love they had for each other.

Syn’s all prepared to accept his lonely fate until he walks into a small pub and meets long-haired, tattooed, bartender, Furious Barkley. Before he can even understand why, Syn’s feeling things he barely recognizes: passion, yearning, cravings; and if the dark, lustful gazes are anything to go by, Furious might be feeling the same things for him.

Just one thing needs to happen before Furi and Syn can give each other what’s been missing from their lives for so long…

Syn needs to allow happiness into his world and Furi needs to learn to open his heart and trust again.

God, Day, Ronowski, and Johnson are still as entertaining as ever…

You’ll swoon over God’s massive take-charge attitude…

You’ll laugh hysterically at Day’s never-ending wit…

You’ll fall in love with Furious’ mysterious, sexy demeanor…

You’ll embrace Syn…

Disclaimer: This book DOES NOT contain scenes of polygamous sexual pairings.

Syn is a detective new to the team led by God and Day, who we met in AE Via’s Nothing Special. He is a tough guy and is freaked out by the way God and Day run their team and their lives.

Then he meets Furi, a down on his luck bartender who ends up being involved in one of their cases.

Though Syn has never even had sexual thoughts about another man, at least not serious ones, he finds himself captivated by Furi.

Furi has been down this road before, lived with an abusive ex who couldn’t reconcile himself with the fact that he liked to be the bottom in their relationship and took out his confusion with his fists.

The two dance around their attraction and the various issues that come with it, as well as handle the impending threats upon their heads – by vindictive exes and slimy porn stars – and with some help from God and Day, find themselves in love.

Though it is not necessary to have read Nothing Special, it sure does make this book more enjoyable if you have.

I just love AE Via’s characters and her love stories. They are tough yet passionate. Super sexy but also touching and sweet.

The sex in this book is epic and the action is fast and a lot of the times, really funny.

I loved seeing God, Day, Ro and Johnson again and though there isn’t a giant ménage scene with all 6 guys… it woulda been hot!

I really enjoyed this sequel to Nothing Special and highly recommend both books! 5 out of 5 stars

Home Run (Book 2) by Willa Okati

Sequel to Mighty Casey

If opposites attract—and in this case, they do—then Casey and Nate fit like puzzle pieces. Though married for a year and still rocking the honeymoon lifestyle, Casey’s starting to feel like it’s time for the next big challenge.

Casey’s never been interested in having kids, but knows Nate would love a family of their own and would be a fantastic father. He thinks he’s ready to put aside past prejudices, but he knows it’s not the kind of decision you make on a whim. Nate only wants to have a family with Casey if Casey wants it just as much. Neither would accept anything less.

The annual Rule family reunion is the perfect time and place for Casey to take his hopes for a test drive and inform his choice. He’ll have plenty of chances to practice—with Nate’s ménage-a-parents and seven sisters, there’s a smorgasbord of family to observe and a half-dozen babies to test his limits.

(And a few games to play. This is Nate, after all!)

Is Casey ready to grant Nate his wish to become a dad and wind up the pitch for a proper “home” run?

Nate and Casey have been married for a year and life is going along great. Nate has hinted he’d like kids, he’s one of 7 himself, but Casey isn’t so sure.

The two go to a family reunion of Nate’s family and it is there that Casey’s decision is cemented. Nate’s family is wonderful, 6 girls, all married, most with several kids, and even a new addition from another side of the family shows up to add more fun to the mix.

As with Mighty Casey, the two have lots of hot sex and are very touchy feely the entire book. For me, a lover of sap, it was heavenly.

I just loved Nate’s family, his two dads, and a mom, the sisters, the kids, the chaos… I liked seeing the changes a year of marriage had brought to the couple and enjoyed seeing Nate’s teacher friends again.

There is a brief epilogue, too, another of my favorite things, that will leave you smiling.

Overall, this was an excellent sequel to a great book and I highly recommend it.

I give it 5 of 5 stars.

Solitude by Anna Martin and Tia Fielding

When his whirlwind life in LA became too much, Liam Barton escaped to Solitude, a Utah ski resort. Not only did Liam leave his career as a gay porn star, he said good-bye to Gael Torres, his costar at Woodspring Manor Entertainment.

Rumors run rampant that Liam is dead. But Gael doesn’t believe the gossip. Knowing something is wrong with Liam, Gael hunts him down to get his answers.

Liam is shocked when Gael turns up in Solitude and takes up residence. To Liam’s chagrin, Gael is determined to stick around to help Liam through whatever spooked him enough to run away. As Gael breaks through Liam’s armor, both men begin to realize that no matter what life throws their way, they don’t have to deal with it alone.

Liam and Gael meet while shooting porn in LA. Gael is “involved” off-screen with another co-star, John, and Liam flees LA when he thinks he’s getting too involved with Gael, who he thinks is off limits.

In Utah, Liam works as a bartender full time and hooker part time. Gael eventually finds him there and works to convince him that he and John were never really a couple and that he and Liam should try to make a go of it.

Eventually the two work out an arrangement that suits them both, and the book ends on a definite HFN or a weak HEA.

This is not your typical porn star love story. (I’m laughing as I write that, but there are several of these stories out there, so I’m sure you know what I mean.) In most of the porn star books we find the MCs wrapping up their love story by quitting the industry and “turning a new leaf”. I really appreciated that neither Gael nor Liam ever feels that their profession is something to run away from. If not completely comfortable, it felt honest.

I also really liked that Liam’s character finds his own strength and coping mechanisms that are not revolving around what Gael does or having Gael “fix” him. All the way to the end Liam keeps his own bedroom and though the romantic in me would love for him to have healed more than that, I appreciated the realism of that. There are lots of relationships in the world, full of love, passion and intensity, that don’t conform to romantic ideals and this is one of them.

I thought it was a good look at life after an abusive childhood and as Liam says, it can’t ever be undone, but it doesn’t have to define who he is today.

There were things about the story that bugged me, some inconsistencies here and there, but for the most part I felt both authors did a tremendous job of portraying an imperfect love between imperfect characters in a way that was both sweet and realistic.

I highly recommend this book and give it a 4.5 of 5 stars.

Tiger Boys by Linda Gayle

tiger boysBlurb

Grad student Jules has always felt different. He’s got buddies, sure, but relationships make him turn tail and run. Dreams of tigers and memories of a mysterious great-grandmother make him wonder if there’s something his parents aren’t telling him. When an unexpected inheritance offers clues to Jules’s destiny, he’s intrigued, to say the least. It doesn’t hurt that the news is delivered by a sexy Russian who seems to know Jules better than he knows himself.

A prince of a powerful tiger clan, Sergei Sidorenko wants to live as an ordinary man. But his family nags him to take his place as king. They offer him a deal: teach the lost prince Julian how to shape-shift and control his untapped sorcerous talent. Then Jules will be king, and war between the once-rival clans will be avoided. Most importantly, Sergei will be released from clan obligations forever. It sounds like an easy out. But Sergei doesn’t count on Jules being so temptingly innocent, so eager to learn. Lessons in sorcery turn to lessons in love. And Sergei falls hard for Jules.

Dark clouds gather over the tiger clans. In a bid to seize power, Jules’s ambitious older brother, Anton, works on the key to immortality. And he needs Jules’s flesh and blood to finish the spell. Tangled in Anton’s machinations, with a traitor in their midst, Jules and Sergei must fight for their lives—and for the love that destiny would deny them.

Sergei should be the next ruler of the Tigers, but he doesn’t want the headaches. He agrees to help find the next “lost” prince and train him for the job. He tells Jules about an “inheritance” from his grandmother, a house and some other things he can’t tell him about, but needs to show him instead.

Once the two arrive at the inherited house in Connecticut Sergei shows Jules that he is not just another college kid, but actually a powerful Tiger-Shifter who is next in line to rule the clan against enemies who would steal their power.

Jules has to decide if this is the life for him after he decides that Sergei isn’t actually crazy. Sergei admits to finding Jules attractive but takes longer to admit that maybe they mean more to one another than mere hook-ups and has to decide if he can be a guy who commits.

Once they decide to break free of their past lives the enemy rears its head and the two have to work together or risk everything.

This was a free read on Kindle for me, but I would have bought it anyway. I really enjoyed Linda Gayle’s shifter universe and thought the magic and the history she described were fascinating.

The love between Jules and Sergei is sweet if not overwhelming and the ending seemed to be a solid HEA even if it was still a bit tenuous by the end.

I highly recommend this book and give it a 4 of 5 stars.

Full Circle (Broken Pieces Book 2) by Riley Hart

full circleBlurb

Nothing in life is ever easy, and no one is more painfully aware of that than Josiah Evans, Mateo Sanchez, and Tristan Croft. They know what they want—each other—but with three people as broken as they are, all those pieces aren’t so easily mended.

Josiah is their glue. All he wants is to give his men what they need.

Mateo wants to absolve himself of his sins. To be worthy of love and to protect it.

Tristan must let go of his past, must learn how to need, and what it really means to take care of someone.

To keep the balance intact, they all have their roles to play. But what happens if the balance shifts? What happens when someone doesn’t play the right part? If one of them falters, they all feel the strain.

The only way to complete their full circle is for all their pieces, despite the curves and rough edges, to fit together perfectly. To do that, Josiah, Mateo, and Tristan must learn to get over the pasts that have defined who they are. And when an old enemy returns and threatens the foundation of their new life, decisions will be made, and boundaries will be tested that could change their lives forever.

We start the story with Teo and Josiah and Tristan working on Josiah’s coffee shop dream. They have all committed to working on a triad relationship, but…

Teo is still living in his crappy apartment, alone, to keep his PO happy.

Tristan is still distancing himself with mysterious phone calls and long nights in his office alone.

Josiah aches to keep his boys all together, but doesn’t DO confrontations and so doesn’t know what to do when things begin to unravel.

In this sequel there are no easy answers and the boys have to really work hard to stay together. They really are all so very broken, that it doesn’t magically go away.

Teo and Tristan’s mother bond, Tristan and Elliot (Josiah’s friend) bond, and in the end Ben (Tristan’s friend) proves to be a better friend than anyone could guess.

The love between the boys grows exponentially and the danger they face is serious. I loved how Riley Hart has continued their story, not giving them an easy path, but realistically working through their ever-so-many issues. When we get to the end, it is very satisfying even though the boys remain imperfect, but perfect together.

I highly recommend this book and give it a 4.5 of 5 hearts

Hell & High Water (THIRDS Book 1) Audiobook by Charlie Cochet Narrated by Mark Westfield

When homicide detective Dexter J. Daley’s testimony helps send his partner away for murder, the consequences—and the media frenzy—aren’t far behind.

He soon finds himself sans boyfriend, sans friends, and, after an unpleasant encounter in a parking garage after the trial, he’s lucky he doesn’t find himself sans teeth. Dex fears he’ll get transferred from the Human Police Force’s Sixth Precinct, or worse, get dismissed. Instead, his adoptive father—a sergeant at the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron otherwise known as the THIRDS—pulls a few strings, and Dex gets recruited as a Defense Agent.

Dex is determined to get his life back on track and eager to get started in his new job. But his first meeting with Team Leader Sloane Brodie, who also happens to be his new jaguar Therian partner, turns disastrous. When the team is called to investigate the murders of three HumaniTherian activists, it soon becomes clear to Dex that getting his partner and the rest of the tightknit team to accept him will be a lot harder than catching the killer—and every bit as dangerous.

YAY! Whooo Hoooo!

That is my response that when I found out that not only is there a sequel to this book, but at least six – count ‘em SIX- in the series!

This is one fantastic book, and it’s shaping up to be an amazing series. We have all the integral parts needed: shifters, a madman, true love, new love, family, orphans, gruff military men and hot alpha males. Phew!

The MCs:
Dex: sweet, happy, hot, stubborn, quick witted, cheesy, loyal and short-tempered.

Sloane: moody, brave, tough, scarred, hot, broken-hearted, loyal, fierce, tender.

If you made a list great series whose relationships built over the span of several books, these guys will be added to that list: Rhys Ford’s Cole McGinnis series, Cut and Run by Abi Roux, SE Jakes Hell or High Water series, NR Walker Turning Point series… you get the idea. Tough guys, slowly gaining one another’s trust, falling in love, and in the meantime kicking some serious ass!

Dex’s character gives us many funny lines and laugh out loud moments, but his interactions with his brother, father and Sloane make us go “awwww”. Sloane, at first, makes you want to pull your hair out, but by the end, you want to cuddle him up in a big hug and kiss away all his boo-boos.

The bad guy – not giving away who it is – but I bet you’ll figure it out soon enough – is a great bad guy. When I say “great” I mean, diabolical, crazy, smart, driven… the perfect counterpart to the good guys here.

I read this in pretty much one sitting – it moves along quickly and grips you right away.

I loved the themes of prejudice and scientific knowledge, segregation and safety, as well as the toys and powers we are shown in this first book.

Mark Westfield does an amazing job with this.  He makes the audio sounds different from the in person sounds.  He gives good emotional impact in appropriate times and does a great job with the humor.  I loved it!

Strength of the Wolf (Book 2) By Kendall McKenna

strength wolfBlurb

Major Tim Madison has his hands full. A young Alpha werewolf has stormed into his personal life, while Tim struggles to keep military werewolves from safe on the front lines.

After a fiery exit from Afghanistan, Tim Madison is promoted to major. Jeremy Wagner is a civilian, just beginning his Transition to True Alpha. As a lone wolf, he has no one to teach him the vital principles of strong leadership. After a volatile chance encounter, Tim and Jeremy form an intimate bond. As Jeremy prepares to someday lead his own pack, Tim struggles with military werewolves being needlessly maimed in combat, as well as specifically targeted by hostile forces. Despite Tim and Jeremy’s feelings, werewolf and human politics or family conflict could prevent their mate-bond.

Jeremy is a True Alpha in training and Tim is our werewolf expert from book one. Tim is also 10 years older than Jeremy and Jeremy is currently acting like a kid going through puberty.

With the help of Noah and Lucas the two realize they mean a lot to one another and Tim helps Jeremy grow into the werewolf he should be.

Some of this takes place in the war zone, but most of this is a civilian story, as compared to book one. You need to have read book one to really appreciate this book, as much of it is not explained in detail in this book. Also, we see quite a lot of Lucas and Noah and that is only a good thing if you’ve read the first book.

On one hand I liked this book better because the boys were more open about their feelings and there was not nearly as much hinging on a conversation to clear things up. On the other hand, the chemistry between Noah and Lucas completely eclipses that of Tim and Jeremy and since both couples are present in this book, I felt a little bad for Tim and Jeremy.

I am really enjoying this series and highly recommend it and look forward to the next two books.

I give it 4.5 of 5 stars.

McFarland’s Farm (Book 1) by Cardeno C

Wealthy, attractive Lucas Reika treats life like a party, moving from bar to bar and man to man. Thumbing his nose at his restaurateur father’s demand that he earn his keep, Lucas instead seduces a valued employee in the kitchen of their flagship restaurant, earning himself an ultimatum: lose access to his father’s money or stay in the middle of nowhere with a man he has secretly lusted over from afar.

Quiet, hard-working Jared McFarland loves his farm on the outskirts of Hope, Arizona, but he aches to have someone to come home to at the end of the day. Jared agrees to take in his longtime crush as a favor. But when Lucas invades his heart in addition to his space, Jared has to decide how much of himself he’s willing to risk and figure out if he can offer Lucas enough to keep him after his father’s punishment is over.

Lucas is the brother of Jared’s ex-wife and Jared has had a crush on him for a long time, but figured he never stood a chance since Lucas is physical perfection and Jared is a bit beefy and awkward. It turns out Lucas has had a crush on Jared, too, but thought he was straight.

Lucas gets into trouble at his dad’s restaurant and sent to Jared’s farm to find himself or risk being cut-off from daddy’s money. Lucas has never done any actual work his entire life and doesn’t know what to make of Jared’s way of life.

Jared knows his life of seclusion isn’t for everyone and really thinks party-boy Lucas will never find happiness out in the sticks. But… the world is a surprising place and it turns out that Lucas is exactly what Jared needs and vice versa.

This is a short story, so the romance moves quickly from animosity to friends to lovers with not a lot of angst. Sure, we see the two MCs worry about what the other thinks, are happy when Lucas realizes Jared is straight, ecstatic when Jared realizes Lucas has the hots for him and temporarily worry when it looks like Lucas might abandon Jared after all, but since its short, all this happens fairly quickly and with little suffering.

I really enjoyed this quiet little love story and enjoyed watching Lucas mature.

Like most of Cardeno’s books the love is sweet and the sex is steamy and the ending very, very happy.
I highly recommend this book and give it a 4.5 of 5 stars.
