Dreamer’s Destiny by Tempeste O’Riley

release day review

Dreamspinner Presents

Cover Reese Dante

Liam Grady is the owner of the Feathered Quill, a quirky little bookstore in Asheville, and—though he doesn’t realize it yet—a dream walker. His last relationship failed almost a year ago, and he’s not had the interest or nerve to pursue anyone he’s met since.

Cameron Danu is a tattoo artist from rural Georgia. Cameron is left without a job after his boss, Jose, is forced to close the shop after a heart attack. When Cameron learns Jose has set up an interview for him at a small tattoo parlor in Asheville, he hopes for a fresh start in a new town.

Fate brings Cameron and Liam together, and they realize they’ve met before—in their dreams. A chance encounter and a winged tattoo might lead them to their destiny—if fear doesn’t turn their dreams into a nightmare.

In a nutshell, Liam and Cameron have been sharing dreams since they were teens. As they grow older the frequency and eroticism of the dreams increases until they are happening nightly (almost). Just when both men are feeling like no “real” man could replace their dream lover and thus both are feeling a bit nutty for feeling like this – they meet.

Unfortunately, in the real world, neither knows how to act with one another and this causes strife. There is also some danger in the form of a witch who is attacking Liam in his dreams and through him, he attacks Cameron, too.

There were parts of this story that I absolutely loved. I loved, loved, loved the whole idea of these two soul mates meeting and finding one another later in life through dreams. It was crazy sexy, unique and magical. It really worked, though it sounds complex, it felt plausible (in a magicky way!)

I liked the individual MCs. Liam is a nerdy, introvert who has to be forced into social situations and Cameron is the opposite. They fit very well together.

What didn’t work for me was the difference between dream Liam/Cameron and real life Liam/Cameron. I don’t understand – or it wasn’t made clear – why they are so different with one another in real life – once they’d accepted the whole dream walking scenario – they are so close with one another in their dreams and so stand-offish with each other in real life. It didn’t make sense, or I missed the explanation.

I also felt like the added drama with the other witch was either not fully developed enough and needed more explanation and/or wrap-up or it needed less. As it stands it was pretty unsatisfying in that I didn’t really get a full grasp of what his motivation was and what was going to happen to him now and why he was targeting Liam and how it even worked….

That was my other complaint – I didn’t feel like I left the story with a great understanding of dream walking v dream weaving and I would have loved more on that topic. Maybe (dare I say it?) a bit less sex and more magic!

I loved the magical, wiccan elements and the deft way the author wove religious tolerance into the story.

All in all I really enjoyed this book and only a few things kept it from being a 5 of 5.

(OMG I LOVE the cover and I want to see that tattoo in real life! I can always spot a Reese Dante cover – she’s exceptional!)

A Mended Man (Men of Halfway House Book 4) by Jaime Reese and CONTEST!

A story of healing and confronting demons…

Detective Aidan Calloway is rock-solid strong. He’s a man of justice—loyal to his friends, family, and job—even if it requires bending a law…or two. He shields himself behind an abrasive, fearless facade, until a phone call one night chips his armor and throws his perfectly planned, hollow life into a tailspin.

Jessie Vega is the epitome of optimism. His carefully crafted attitude of hope and positivity protects him from a past filled with too much pain. When a ghost from a dark time resurfaces and nearly breaks him, he must tap into his inner strength or risk losing everything he’s worked so hard to build.

But Jessie can’t do it alone. He must fight to break through Aidan’s ironclad defenses to reveal the heart of the man hiding beneath the tough surface and mend his damaged spirit. Only then can they truly heal and become strong enough to battle the demons that haunt them and threaten their chance to finally be together.

***This book contains scenes and subject matter some readers may find distressing. It is only intended for adult readers.***

This is a LONG book – the longest so far (I believe) in the series.

Though I think it could technically be read as a standalone, I don’t recommend it. So much is laid down in the earlier books about Jess and Aidan as well as Ty and Cole, Hunter and Cam that you’d be missing out not to know their stories first. Plus, they’re awesome, so read them if you haven’t!

In any case, Jess and Aidan have already done their “dance” of “friendship” in earlier stories, so we hit them mid-stride. They’re friends – very close friends – but nothing romantic. In fact, it’s still questionable whether or not Aidan is even gay!

When the story starts out, Jess is injured and this forces Aidan to show his hand. He cares for Jess way more than a “bud” and it’s hard for Aidan to feel this way. (Be warned, there are a lot of triggers in this book – rape, abuse, torture, but very little of it is on page.)

The vast majority of the book is Aidan slowly opening up to Jess. He’s kept himself away from anyone for years after his time in the service (for Reasons) and though he longs for what Ty and Hunter have, he somehow feels he can’t have that (also for Reasons).

Jess, on the other hand, is practically an open book. Though his story is no less harrowing than Aidan’s he tells it all right away and in that sense acts as a tremendous release valve for Aidan.

Eventually, the couple becomes a true couple and we get to see their HEA – but it’s hard won. So many hurdles to be overcome, but the results are so worth it.

I had been looking forward to this FOREVER. I’ve been a huge fan of the series since it’s beginning and in my opinion Book Three eclipsed Books One and Two but that doesn’t diminish 1 & 2, it’s just that Jaime’s writing keeps getting stronger and stronger as she publishes.

I was a bit daunted by the length of this – it told me there was going to be a lot of angst – and I was right. Boy Howdy! There’s a lot of angst in this book. Aidan is like the King of the Universe of Angst. And Jess – who was kidnapped and tortured for years, is like a ray of sunshine compared to Aidan!

Since the couple had already met and be-friended one another I was curious what the hold up was going to be – well – it’s Aidan’s fear of intimacy.   That ends up being the focus for about 70% of the book.

While I absolutely loved the writing, found the slow burn and snail-like progress on the romance realistic and well done, I have to admit that I thought the book was a bit too long. (Gasp!) I know. I hate to say it. Because I truly ADORE Reese and this series – but I just wanted a bit more forward momentum – not necessarily sex – but emotional intimacy. I guess you could say we (as readers) get to feel what Jess felt – but I got bogged down in it and frustrated at times in the middle section of the book where it seemed like nothing was moving in the relationship front or the solving the crime front.

But… except for that one niggle, the rest of the book is truly glorious. The way Jess keeps at Aidan is wonderful and really shows us that you don’t have to be the Alpha to have a spine – Thank God! The slowly opening flower that is Aidan’s love is remarkable to watch and experience and really portrayed elegantly in this story.  I also loved seeing all the guys again- Cole remains my absolute favorite! – and I was so pleased for Hunter and Cam!

In the end, I still loved the book and highly recommend it, but it didn’t surpass Book three as my favorite.

Of course Jaime’s cover is so gorgeous, I kept flipping back to it to study Aidan’s ink! (not his abs! Never! 😉

How to Wish Upon a Star (Howl at the Moon Book 3) by Eli Easton

release day review

Dr. Jason Kunik is working on the most earth-shattering genetics project ever, DNA mapping of a new species, the quickened—dogs who can shift into human form.  The problem is, no one knows the quickened exist and Jason can’t betray them by publishing his studies. When he moves to Mad Creek to continue his research in a town full of quickened, all he wants is peace, quiet, and to be allowed to bury himself in his work.  Perhaps if he figures how out the mutation is activated, he can silence his own inner dog forever.

Milo is a hospice comfort dog who has bonded with, and lost, many beloved patients in his life. He intuitively understands sickness and pain on a spiritual level most can’t see. When he gains the ability to become a man, he thinks he finally has everything he ever wanted. But being a man isn’t the same thing as being loved, and taking shelter in Mad Creek isn’t the same thing as finding a home.

When a mysterious illness hits Mad Creek and threatens all the quickened in town, it’s up to the scientist and the comfort dog to figure out what it is and how to stop it. Along the way they might discover that true love is possible—if you wish upon a star.

This is the third book in the “Howl at the Moon” series, but it can be read as a stand-alone.

First, though it says this is a standalone – I don’t think it is. So much groundwork is laid out in books one and two that, though you can sort things out, it makes way more sense in light of having read the previous books.

Second, the other books are way awesome so you should read them anyway!

Milo is a newly quickened human (a dog who receives a magical blessing and can now shift from dog to man) who finds himself in Lily Beufort’s helping hands.

He ends up staying at Jason Kunik’s house – a geneticist and born quickened – intent on studying the DNA of his species and finding out how new quickened are created.

Jason is all cerebral and Milo is all heart. Two more opposites never did meet. Jason absolutely NEEDS Milo – he’s so separated from his dog and his emotions that he’s a nervous wreck. Milo – for all his “newborn” mistakes – grounds Jason and brings him back to the present. All without letting Jason know he’s being helped!

Milo, meanwhile, is happy to be useful and is enthralled with Jason and willing to do anything to be near him.

Unfortunately, the town needs Jason now more than ever. A new virus is spreading and affecting only the quickened. As a result Jason has to expedite his research and find a cure or everyone could end up stuck in their furry forms forever!

OMG! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series! I was so excited to read this! I was on pins and needles the entire time the folks of Mad Creek were sick – I can’t tell you who or why but – it was HARROWING!  (I was on the edge of my seat when Milo was in the desert… Oh MAN – so worried!)

Milo made this book for me. Jason is rather like a porcupine – prickly and sticks to himself – but Milo is that breath of fresh air who hugs everyone and makes them smile. Together they are truly breathtaking!

Eli is such a great writer. She did an amazing job of matching dog types with human personalities – a game I play at work! – imagining what this or that breed would be like as a human and vice versa.

Milo is the easy going, happy go lucky, Golden Doodle and Jason is the high strung and intense (and sometimes whiny!) Malamute. Perfect! I also loved Simon the Jack Russel Terrier bouncing into rooms and talking a mile a minute! Or the dumpy Gus – the bulldog and of course the Border Collies – always on the lookout!

I also loved seeing all the guys again – but I hated them being at risk! – and bit my nails throughout all of the virus crisis.

The science was clearly researched as was the medicine (though the time table was a bit convenient and unrealistic, but had to be for the story’s sake), I found it fascinating.

I highly recommend this to fans of the series and if you’re new to the series – do yourself a favor and start at the beginning – it’s well worth it!

My only complaint – and this I feel pretty much every time I read Eli’s books, is that they end too soon! I really wanted to see these guys as a couple more. I felt like we worked so hard to get them together – can’t we have a little bit of time with them as a happy couple?

My favorite remains book one – though I loved this and book two tremendously – you can’t beat Tim and Lance for a funnier and sweeter couple. (Be warned there are tears of joy and happiness in store for Tim and Lance – and potential danger!) I was also moved by Matt’s speech to Jason when Roman was put in the pathway of the virus – GAH! – man emotions – so sweet! – it was so touching. So – in a way – we get more of the couples we loved again in this story and that adds to the overall enjoyment of the book and the series tremendously.

Charlie’s Hero (Hero’s #1) Audiobook by Nic Starr Narrated by Joel Leslie

Dreamspinner Presents

Schoolteacher Charlie Matthews returns to his hometown, looking to regain a sense of community, reconnect with friends, and settle down. It looks like his dreams have come true when paramedic Josh Campbell attends an accident at the school. It’s love at first sight, and a romance begins.

But Josh’s reluctance to come out to the brother who raised him, puts pressure on their fledgling relationship. While Charlie understands Josh’s concerns, he can’t help growing impatient. After all, Charlie came out years ago.

It’s not until Charlie confronts his own parents and realizes he hasn’t come to terms with their rejection that he fully understands what Josh has to lose. But Josh is Charlie’s hero, and Josh will do anything to prove to Charlie that to be part of a family, he doesn’t need his parents.

Charlie is a teacher who wants to settle down. When he meets Josh, he thinks “this is it!” as they instantly connect and begin a relationship. But Josh – who is out and proud to everyone but his beloved brother – has to keep Charlie under wraps for fear of losing his only family, his brother, Andrew.

This is a very low angst story and for the most part I really enjoyed it. I got a bit tired of Josh’s excuse and his unwillingness to speak with his brother – especially when we see his reasons – as they felt very flimsy in the face of his obvious infatuation with Charlie. But I loved how easily these two guys fit with one another and how the majority of the story is them moving forward in their relationship.

I was super glad I had listened to this rather than read it as Joel Leslie definitely added to my overall enjoyment of the story. The story itself felt a little mild to me and Joel was able to elevate this to a more full-bodied, enjoyable experience with is additional emotion and depth provided by his narration. I always like Joel’s voicing and timing and he does another great job here.

Some of the coldness left Ronan’s eyes. He seemed confused again. Why did Tucker seem to confuse Ronan so much?

Then it happened. Ronan nodded. “Deal.”

Tucker barely stopped himself from gaping again. It worked? He was going to have sex? He was going to have sex! He didn’t let himself think about how long it had been since his last partner. It would only depress him. He knew what to do… mostly.

Tucker tossed the ball underhand to Ronan, who caught it with a startled expression.

“What?” Tucker said. “It’s not like you can go anywhere. Your ship’s caput and even if you tried to hack into my navigation system, you wouldn’t get far. My ma designed it and she was the best there was. Just letting you know in case you had a thought of bashing me over the head and commandeering my ride.”

Ronan looked insulted. “I would never do such a thing. I am not a thief or vagabond.”

“Then what are you?”

Ronan’s mouth pulled into a thin line. Tucker shrugged. “Fine. Keep your secrets. Come on, follow me. Let’s both take a well-needed shower.” A blush suddenly crept up his face. “I mean, a shower separately. Let’s take a shower—oh, never mind. Just come on.”

He turned his back on Ronan and called himself an idiot. He dearly hoped he wasn’t making a huge mistake. But he wouldn’t go back on it now. He really, really wanted to have sex.

Tempeste O’Riley Guest Post and Giveaway!

OS: Welcome to Tempeste O’Riley author of Dreamer’s Destiny!  It’s great to have you here today Tempeste!

TO: Thanks for having me!

OS: Can you tell me something about your new story Dreamer’s Destiny?

TO: Sure!  First an excerpt:

How did you tell your aunt you were living an entire dream life? One where he had the life like he’d always wanted when he was awake? Yeah… that didn’t sound nuthouse worthy at all, nope!

TO: As you can see from the brief excerpt above, Liam’s life is anything but simple early in the story. He’s living his life in the real world, but he’s also got the whole thing going on in dreams with Cam… and it’s obviously a life that he doesn’t want to give up every morning. How would you feel if you had not only a dream life, with a lover you not only wanted but had basically been in a relationship with for years, but that you wanted to be with? Yeah, not to simple. That’s one of the major issues, times two, happening here. Remember Cam is part of this conundrum too. He’s sharing dreams with Liam, so it’s not just poor Liam waking up missing his lover every morning, trying to have a ‘normal’ life.

But what do you do and how do you every share that life trauma? Well, for Liam, he eventually decides he has to… not wants but has to. It was a fun scene to write as Liam was kinda having a teeny tiny meltdown by that point, convinced he was really going crazy. After all, as he says at a different point “People don’t just materialize into reality simply because you want them so desperately, waking up breaks your heart.”

So, what would you do, if it were you?

OS: That’s a great question Tempeste – I think I’d love to hear what our readers would say to that.  I know I found your book fascinating and I hope we see more from this universe.  Thanks for dropping by!

Two days later, Liam stood in a kitchen he knew, but he was uncertain how he had ended up there. He looked around and found Cam bent over, rummaging in the fridge, his pert little butt in nothing but a pair of tight boxer briefs. Liam groaned as he moved closer to Cam and slid his hands over the smooth cotton, feeling the tight muscles beneath flex as Cam jumped and spun around.

“Dammit, Lee, don’t sneak up on me like that,” Cam groused, though the pout was ruined when the edges of his lips turned up in a small smile.

“Sorry, beautiful, but how could I resist such a tempting and delicious offering?”

“Uh-uh. Stroking the ego won’t help you this time.”

Liam smirked and slid one hand down to lightly rub up and down Cam’s length. Cam’s eyes closed as a low moan slipped out. His hips pushed forward, his body begging for touch. “Your ego wasn’t what I had in mind, baby.”

“Oh, God, Liam. Please,” Cam begged. He threaded one hand into Liam’s hair and tugged him down until their lips met in a hard clashing of teeth, tongue, and yum.

Liam slipped one hand inside Cam’s briefs, then wrapped his fingers around the hard shaft that had been hiding within. He pulled and stroked the hot, hard flesh as he continued to kiss Cam as if he hadn’t touched Cam in ages. He wanted Cam so bad he couldn’t think straight.

He captured the moans Cam let out as they continued to devour each other, relishing each one as if it were his first and last ever. Liam clutched at Cam’s hip, desperate for his lover’s touch. He ripped his mouth away, panting for breath, never letting up on his slow pumping of Cam’s cock.

“So prefect,” he panted, relishing the little mewling sounds Cam made every time Liam skated his fingers over Cam’s cockhead, how Cam’s eyes were blown wide in desire.

“I need you in me, Lee. I don’t wanna wait….”

Liam grabbed Cam’s briefs and tore them off his tight little body, desperate to be back inside his Cam. After slamming Cam against the wall, Liam kicked Cam’s feet apart before he dropped to his knees and swallowed Cam whole.

Cam screamed, but Liam didn’t care. He was going to take everything Cam offered and then some! Setting a fast pace, he bobbed up and down on Cam’s straining cock, making it wet and slippery. Using some of the excess wetness, he slipped his fingers behind Cam’s balls, rubbing them along Cam’s taint until he reached Cam’s tight hole. Teasing and tapping Cam’s needy entrance, Liam shivered as precome squirted on his tongue, the taste making him even harder than before.

Shaking above him, Cam pushed back against Liam’s fingers, begging with both words and action for exactly what Liam wanted to give.

Deacon Reid was born bad to the bone with no intention of changing. A lifetime of law-bending and living on the edge suits him just fine, until his baby sister dies and he finds himself raising her little girl.

Staring down a family history of bad decisions and reaped consequences, Deacon cashes in everything he owns, purchases an auto shop in Half Moon Bay, and takes his niece, Zig, far away from the drug dens and murderous streets they grew up on. Zig deserves a better life than what he had, and Deacon is determined to give it to her.

Lang Harris is stunned when Zig, a little girl in combat boots and a purple tutu, blows into his bookstore, and then he’s left speechless when her uncle, Deacon Reid, walks in hot on her heels. Lang always played it safe, but Deacon tempts him to step over the line…just a little bit.

More than a little bit. And Lang is willing to be tempted.

Unfortunately, Zig isn’t the only bit of chaos dropped into Half Moon Bay. Violence and death strike, leaving Deacon scrambling to fight off a killer before he loses not only Zig but Lang too.

Deacon’s led a tough life, but he steps up to bat when his sister dies, leaving her daughter in the hands of social services. He knows that road and doesn’t want it for his niece. So he pulls his shit together and gathers up Zig, his 8 year old niece and begins to set down roots in a new town – where nobody knows him.

He moves from Atlanta to a small town in California and sets up a mechanic shop. He thinks he’s free and clear – but trouble has found him – even in California.

He meets Lang, another local business owner, down the street from his shop and through Zig’s fascination with his bookshop, they become friends, then more.

I think it’s funny that Rhys thinks this is her being “fluffy” – because – well there’s fire and bullets around every corner in this book!

There’s also some pretty rough spousal abuse and some pretty close calls with a murderer, too.

The romance, however, is fairly angst free – so I guess that makes it “fluffy” – if you want to call it that.

Rhys is an exceptional writer and storyteller – not everyone can do both – but she always manages to wow me with that ability. Reading her books is to delve in with all five senses and immerse yourself in her imagination.

I also learn stuff when I read because she’s so dang smart! I had to look up all kinds of things to get the humor in this book. Fafhrd, Sir Didy, Ludo and more. But I love that! I also saw many “easter eggs” and other fun stuff.

Deacon is a quintessential hero – he’s pretty perfect in every way. Zig is perfectly imperfect and she gives us lots of comedic fodder and pulls at our every heartstring.

There’s a great mystery in this story and a possible future story being laid (Lang’s brother) and a wonderful HEA.

Any fan of Rhys will love this, it has mystery, love, humor, sex and danger. Perfection!

Spencer Goss is a new narrator and he NAILS it! He does a tremendous job with Zig and I adored his Deacon (yum!) also helps us keep all the characters differentiated. Spencer has a great sense of timing and really does the emotions well.  I can’t wait to see more from this guy!

Highly recommended – he absolutely adds to the enjoyment of this story.

In this case, Graham is a nice guy and he’s paired with a grumpy-gus- Trigger. Trigger is a horny bastard and it makes things difficult because Trigger has no communication skills. The two dance around each other a long time but finally someone caves in…

There’s a lot of bear humor in this and some pretty hot smexy times. The feels are there, but more subtle.

I like Cheyenne’s writing style and I love her cat shifter books quite a bit. I thought this was fun and hot at times, but it wasn’t as deep as some of her other works.

If you like baseball, shifters, grumpy guys and humor – give this a go!

Lollipop (Candy Man Book 3) Audiobook by Amy Lane Narrated by Philip Alces

Dreamspinner Presents

Ezra Kellerman flew across country to see if he had another chance with the man he let slip through his fingers. He didn’t. Rico has moved on, but he doesn’t just leave his ex high and dry. Instead, Rico entrusts his family and friends with Ezra’s care. Ezra, confused, hurt, and lost, clings to Rico’s cousin and his boyfriend as the lifelines they are—but their friend Miguel is another story.

Miguel Rodriguez had great plans and ambition—but a hearty dose of real life crushed those flat. When Miguel finds himself partially in charge of the befuddled, dreamy, healing Ezra, he’s pretty resentful at first. But Ezra’s placid nature and sincere wonder at the simple life Miguel has taken for granted begin to soften Miguel’s hardened shell. Miguel starts to notice that Ezra isn’t just amazingly sweet—he’s achingly beautiful as well. Suddenly Miguel is fending off every single man on the planet to give Ezra room to get over Rico—while fighting a burning suspicion that the best thing to help Ezra get over his broken heart is Miguel.

(Book reviewed here previously)

This is book three in the series and though it can probably be read as a standalone why the heck would you do that?

Ezra was Rico’s boyfriend in New York, he broke Rico’s heart and then went decidedly off the rails in his cubicle where he worked for his evil father.

After recovering from his breakdown – as much as he could – he decided to go to Sacramento to win Rico back. He’s heartbroken when he realizes that ain’t gonna happen. So… Rico dumps him on the lawn of Adam and Finn and … Miguel who happened to be there at the time. Though it’s a little bit of tears and recriminations at first, Ezra fairly easily falls into a nice routine there on the magic couch at Adam’s.

Miguel doesn’t really know what to do with Ezra, the little kitten with the sad eyes. His crush on Adam is still freshly sore and his business has failed and he’s back selling candy… life is not his playground right now.

Darrin ends up pushing Miguel and Ezra together at work and over time the two become close friends… but it’s not til they take a drive to Disneyland that they realize that this is something more.

I’m not sure if I’ve said it before or not, but Amy Lane is not just a great storyteller – she’s a great writer! Not all authors are those together. Some can really spin a tale and keep you on the edge of your seat but their prose is nothing special. Or the reverse, some authors can really form a sentence and choose the best words and make lovely imagery – but their story is sort of – blah.

Amy tells us these wonderful tales and then she throws in these phrases and images that remind me that she’s a good “writer” too.

But Finn—Finn surprised him then, because as much as he looked like the bubbles in soda, he was apparently the real deal.

Ezra shook his head. “No—not Jewish people. Skinny uncoordinated people who run like an epileptic ostrich.”

Adam arched an eyebrow at him. “Me and Finn have the apartment to ourselves for a few hours. Do you want a blowjob-by-blowjob account of how we’re gonna use our time?”

“It’s like, the idea of a bigger world isn’t just… you know. Limited to a big city in a big world. The cool thing about a city is that there are so many different lives people could be leading there.” Lives where people were out, and free, and not broken or caged. “But you forget that there are more lives outside the city than in it.”

There are many more but you get the idea. She’s just a talented writer and that makes her stories all the more amazing.

I loved the little twists and turns this story took and the slow burn. Neither guy was really looking for love and it kind of snuck up on them. But… once that light bulb flashed they were done looking – for good. It was awesome!

I know that fans of the series will be jumping on this, and I want to urge anyone who hasn’t yet to pick up the first book and read all three (or listen!) because this is a sweet and wonderful “light” series by a gifted writer and it shouldn’t be missed!

(PS can’t wait for the story that’s hinted at the end… it’s gonna be a good one!)

Philip Alces did a surprisingly great job with this. I loved his accents and thought he did a great job with Miguel’s family. I’m thoroughly enjoying this series in both audio and written format and highly recommend them both!

Just One Night by Sebastian Carter

A hot body will only take him so far…

Theo Cooper just wants to find his place in life, but despite his outer veneer of confidence, he’s filled with doubts about whether he can truly find happiness. A homophobic father and an ex-fiancé who likes to sleep around have shaken his faith in himself. Walking in on his ex in bed with Theo’s replacement is the last straw, and now Theo is ready to do whatever it will take to scrape together the cash for a new place to live.

Self-doubt keeps holding him back…

Elliot James is too shy, too smart, and too socially awkward to do anything about his desire to meet a man. So far, his best friend, wealthy socialite Brianna LaFontaine, is the only person he’s had the courage to come out to. Despite her best efforts to push him out of his comfort zone—which is behind a computer screen—he has successfully avoided any chance of finding love.

When a mutual friend pushes them together…

Brianna cares about her friends, and when Theo won’t take the money she offers to get him out of his financial mess, she comes up with a simple proposition: help shy Elliot break out of his nervous shell to experience one night of passion, and Theo can name his price. It’s the answer to Theo’s money problems and an easy way for some fast cash. But one night brings both men more than they expect, and leads both to wonder…

Is it possible to fall in love after Just One Night?

Just One Night is a steamy gay romance with a happily-ever-after ending and no cliffhangers.

Elliot and Brianna knew one another in college and now work at the same company. Brianna and Theo knew one another in high school and are still friends. When Elliot continues to be paralyzed in the face of anything social, especially romantically, and Theo needs money to leave his ex-douche of a boyfriend – she sees what a potential “fix” for both her friends’ “problems”. She convinces Theo to take Elliot’s virginity and offers him a chunk of change to do it. In her mind she’s helping Elliot dip his foot in the dating pool and giving Theo a hand that isn’t precisely “charity”.

Well… as can be predicted, the two really mesh well but when Elliot finds out the truth about their “spontaneous” hook-up, he’s crushed.

Though this is painfully predictable, it’s still highly enjoyable. I really liked how the author managed to show both men’s strengths and weaknesses in a way that felt realistic. And though their romance happens over the course of a few days, you really get the feel that these two could actually have what it takes to stay together.

The smexy times are very HOT and both MCs are charming in their own way (Theo is an ass at first but totally redeems himself by the end.)

For a light hearted, low angst, highly steamy read, I recommend this – just don’t expect it to be ground breaking literature ☺
