Hurricane Reese by RL Merrill Blog Tour and Excerpt and Giveaway!

OS: Welcome to RL Merrill here to talk about their new book!

Thank you so much for having me on Open Skye today! Hurricane Reese has been one of my favorite stories to write as it includes so many elements that really appeal to me: musical theater, dance, a hilarious grandfather, humor, family and a cast of multicultural, multigenerational family and friends that really make this story special. Reese was a blast to write because while he’s everything many of us fantasize about, we have Jude to show that just because someone is sexy, talented, and gorgeous, that doesn’t mean living with them is a picnic. Jude is the kind of guy who deserves a HEA because he’s worked so hard to take care of everyone else. In my previous stories I’ve written all kinds of love affairs and characters from various parts of the LGBTQ spectrum, but this the first time my two main characters have been men and I LOVED telling their tale. It was a natural progression for me and I have so many more stories in the works. So check out Hurricane Reese, check out my self-published work, and stay tuned for more Rock ‘n’ Romance!

Please leave a comment about your favorite musical, grandparent or just make me laugh and I’ll randomly choose one commenter to win a $10 gift certificate to Dreamspinner AND an e-copy of Hurricane Reese!

Tony award-winning musician Reese Matheson’s life resembles a natural disaster, and caregiver Jude De La Torre is caught in the eye of the storm. Can the love these two opposites find together survive caring for an ornery octogenarian with wayward balls and a meddling family insistent upon tradition?

A public break-up is not what Reese expects upon returning from the successful run of his musical in London. All he wants to do is spend time with his beloved grandfather and musical mentor, who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Reese knows he doesn’t have much time left before the elder Matheson doesn’t remember him. In classic “Hurricane Reese” form, he moves into the cottage by the sea, displacing Jude, the intriguing caregiver he’d hired two years before. When Grandpa proves too much for Reese to handle on his own, Jude comes to his rescue, taming Grandpa… and the Hurricane as well. Soon all Reese can think about is how to get Jude out of his scrubs and into his bed. Permanently. Will Hurricane Reese destroy everything in its wake, or will this gay odd couple learn to harmonize together?

Reese wanted to dive back in and keep kissing that delicious mouth. The moment he felt Jude give in, Reese knew every victory with Jude would be just as sweet. His lips…. God, Reese could explore those lips for an eternity and never completely know them. Jude was like a deep well of mystery that Reese wanted to get lost in. What was it about that quiet young man that made Reese want to roar?

He waited for a snappy comeback, but Jude seemed to have given up. Or given in, Reese hoped. He wanted Jude desperately, and though he knew the timing couldn’t be worse, he didn’t care one bit. There was a reason the two of them had been thrown together. Reese knew Jude would stand by him, and though he didn’t consider himself particularly manipulative, he planned to use the situation to his advantage. Who knew what would come of an affair with Jude? Reese had a feeling that, once they allowed themselves to experience a deeper level of passion with each other, there would be no turning back. And Reese was ready to move forward with that plan.

Jude looked around the SUV as Reese waited for him to accept that he had no alternative. He was counting on Jude’s exhaustion to spur him forward, and in the end, that was probably what finally got Jude to climb out of the car and shut the door.

“Did you want me to grab anything?” Reese asked, trying to keep the triumphant smile off his face.

Jude just raised that eyebrow once more and then turned his back on Reese, moving in that sensual way that had Reese panting after him. He needed to cool his jets a bit. It wouldn’t do to strip Jude down and bend him over the first available surface. He’d have to be creative. And there was Grandpa to consider. He knew Reese had a colorful love life, and he didn’t keep his opinions about it to himself. It didn’t bother Reese, but he had a feeling Jude would take the grumblings of the old man personally. Reese could tell he was sensitive that way.

If only they were going into the house alone. Reese intended to feast on Jude for hours… just as soon as he had an opportunity. As though he heard Reese’s thoughts, Jude turned and looked back at him as he climbed the steps to the porch. Oh, Jude, you’re in so much trouble.

Once upon a time… a teacher, tattoo collector, mom, and rock ’n’ roll kinda gal opened up a doc and started purging her demons. Several self-published books and a debut gay romance with Dreamspinner Press later, R.L. Merrill is still striving to find that perfect balance between real life and happily ever after. She writes stories set in the places she loves most, such as Hollywood, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Northern California—and Iowa. Ro also loves connecting with other authors online, at the annual Romantic Times Booklovers Convention, and chapter meetings for the Romance Writers of America, of which she’s been a member since 2014.

A sucker for underdogs, Ro has adopted a wide variety of pets including cats, dogs, rats, a snake and fish. Her love of horror is evident the moment you walk in her door and find yourself surrounded by decorative skulls and quirky artwork from around the world. You can find her lurking on social media where she loves connecting with readers, educating America’s youth, being a mom taxi to two busy kids, in the tattoo chair trying desperately to get that back piece finished, or head banging at a rock show near her home in the San Francisco Bay Area.
