Victor Bayne is through with the Chicago PD. Can he handle the FPMP?
After years of frustration as a PsyCop, Victor Bayne reports for duty at the Federal Psychic Monitoring Program. As a fledgeling agent, he’s ready to smoke out a few ghosts and be home each night in time for dinner. But is he prepared to add a professional dimension to his romantic partnership with Jacob Marks?
Jacob has already established his territory in the Program—he’s competent, he’s respected, and he’s pretty much fearless. The last thing Vic wants to do is screw up in front of him.
When fellow agents start turning up dead, Vic is expected to do more than just lay their ghosts to rest. But what if his psychic talent isn’t quite enough? As the death toll rises, he and Jacob scramble to determine who’s in danger, and who’s a killer.
Using all the resources at their disposal, they close in on their suspect. But as they do, their past comes back to haunt them…and even Jacob worries they’ve tampered with forces they should have left alone. Are their combined talents enough to protect them from enemies both living and dead?

Review

This book made me ridiculously happy!

First, it gives us more Jacob and Vic and even some Crash! We get to solve another mystery and just when we think we know all there is to know about Vic’s talent… there’s more to know!

Aaaand – it seems like there could be many of these with Vic as FPMP. I wouldn’t be sad if these went on for – I don’t know – EVER!

Aaaand – I love his new phone! So funny and realistic!

Aaaand- Jacob and Vic are still rock solid. They are such a great couple and I love watching their relationship evolve over time.

If you’re a fan, you’ve already read this and if you haven’t started this series – go do it!

I cannot wait for the audio!

Highly Recommended!

Review:

If you have not read the Sinner’s Gin series ries and especially if you have not listened to it you should! It is an amazing series read by one of the most dreamy narrators in the genre. It involves a bunch a very broken people who find happiness with one another, all the while making amazing music.

Devils brew is a novella that takes place over Valentine’s Day when Miki, who has never had any “normal” relationships, tries to navigate through this made up holiday with his boyfriend for the first time ever. It’s funny, sweet and tender all at the same time.

I love Miki’s relationship with the Morgans and am always touched by Donal’s contributions to Miki’s healing process.
Without giving anything away, I did a happy dance when Miki gave Sionn his second gift… yippee!!

Tristan James’ narration is the icing on this delicious cake – his Irish accents are swoonworthy! He is the vocal equivalent of crack for me. I have every one of his narrations (luckily they are great stories, too) simply because I adore his voice. His cadence is superb and his intonation is like butter. I love his accents (even when they wobble a bit) and the bit of “acting” he does as he reads the emotional parts is just right.
I can’t say enough positive things about this narration, highly recommended to fans of the series and again a plug to start from the beginning if you haven’t already.

What’s more important, their love for each other or their differing attitudes to kinky sex?

Alistair has made it very clear he isn’t into anything even vaguely kinky.

Sheridan knew he was in love with him the day he found that out, and then decided to stay with him anyway. Unable to ease his desire to serve at home, Sheridan volunteers at a club where he can secretly serve the patrons, and feed his submission, without upsetting Alistair by revealing that side of his personality to him.

When chance drags Alistair into that same club on Valentines weekend, Sheridan’s leather mask can’t keep his secret safe any longer. With his desire to serve out in the open, it’s not long before other secrets start to come out and they both have to make a choice.

Does Sheridan give up on ever being allowed to submit to the man he loves, or does Alistair take the risk of becoming the master his love has always wanted?

Review
The story introduces Sheridan and Alistair as an established couple. Because of commitments they are apart on Valentine’s Day. Whilst reading the story I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t seem to be the romantic BDSM I was hoping for, but by the end I understood that it really was. It is more about truly knowing and accepting your partner which in the end brings them closer together. Alistair is upset when he sees by chance sees Sheridan behaving subserviently in a club.
Alistair gives Sheridan one night, a night he tests Sheridan’s idea of submission. He expects that Sheridan will see it’s not what he really wants. Alistair had already decided Sheridan was too good to be sullied by being involved in the lifestyle. The story gives a clear indication that something has happened in Alistair’s past experience, as a Dom, to turn him away from the lifestyle. Such was his experience that he now views submission as degrading and he doesn’t want to see Sheridan that light. For his part Sheridan kept his submissive side hidden because he knew Alistair didn’t like the idea of it. These two men have both suppressed parts of their desire, Alistair because he didn’t like that side of himself and Sheridan to please Alistair. One Valentine’s night is all it takes for them to be honest and start the rest of their lives together. This is a well rounded glimpse into an important moment between a couple.

There’s a phone ringing, bringing news they do not expect.

This is the last of the series and I’m glad Sean Crisden was the one to close the series out. For me, he is the voice of Bear and Otter. His pacing is impeccable and his ability to inject emotion and humour into the dialogue really good. As always, it is easy to distinguish between the characters. I really enjoyed the narration.
I’ve followed the story of Bear, Otter, Ty from the start and loved their journey. TJ Klune has written a beautiful series and each book enhanced has by very good to excellent narration.

If running from a hit man wasn’t scary enough, ATF Agent Thayne Wolfe has a new challenge in his life, and this one may be even more dangerous than the last. He has to figure out how to work with his reckless new partner, a handsome former Marine who seems to have a death wish.

Jarrett Evans never stays in one place very long, and being chained to a desk doing paperwork is not his idea of entertainment. His lover and new partner at the ATF seems to find ways to throw a monkey wrench into all his fun, especially when Thayne wants to curtail his need to jump off 10 story buildings.

When their boss sends them to San Diego to investigate a fireworks accident, he figures Jarrett can’t hurt anyone playing with sparkers, not even himself. The fact is, danger, intrigue, and Jarrett’s dubious past seem to follow the men wherever they go.

From a Marine base at the Mexican border to an explosion in LA’s Chinatown, they aren’t prepared for a seriously pissed off militia, a smoking hot ex-lover, and more guys who want them dead.

The sparks will fly in and out of the bedroom in Flash and Bang.

Review:

This is book 2 of a really good series. I loved the ebook and was fortunate to get a copy of the audiobook.
I love this series! I was looking forward to the narration for this book and it did not disappoint! Michael Pauley is really good for the series; he’s made me fall in love with both Jarrett and Thayne, so much so, that I can’t choose between either of them! (Though, Jarrett may have a slight edge with his smooth West Va/southern? Drawl ☺)
Patricia Logan has penned a brilliant series – I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the books on audio!

The Bone Series, Book 2

Werewolves don’t have a how-to manual – nor do men embarking on a new life together.
It’s been a few weeks since Dylan Warner wolfed out and killed Andy, the crazed werewolf who originally turned him and later tried to murder Chris Nock. Architect Dylan and handyman Chris are still refurbishing Dylan’s old house as they work out the structure of their relationship. They come from very different backgrounds, and neither has had a long-term lover before, so negotiating their connections would be challenge enough even if Dylan didn’t turn into a beast once a month.
To make matters worse, Dylan’s house is haunted, and events from both men’s pasts are catching up with them. Dylan has to cope with the aftermath of killing Andy, and Chris continues to suffer the effects of a difficult childhood.
In his quest to get rid of the ghost, Dylan rekindles old friendships and faces new dangers. At the same time, Chris’s father makes a sudden reappearance, stirring up old emotions. If Dylan and Chris want to build a lasting relationship, they’ll have to meet these challenges head-on.

Review

This is a sequel in that it literally picks up right where book 1 left off, not a standalone. Our couple is still working through a bunch of “issues” and yet there is a new external struggle for them to overcome as well.

Luckily, our couple does not ever come to question their relationship, but instead grow closer and more deeply in love.

Kim Fielding is an amazing writer and she has given us a great couple with a lot of chemistry and some really fascinating “life with a werewolf” issues to maneuver. She does a great job with world-building and the additional struggle is actually pretty exciting as well.

This is definitely the case where both books 1 and 2 are wonderful – no curse of the sequel here!

Highly Recommended!

Nick J Russo narrated book 1 and I was disappointed to see he didn’t do this one as well. However, John Solo surprised me with how well he handled this and I absolutely loved his version of Dylan – so growly and yummy!

In general I think the same narrator is best, but Solo did a good enough job that I can still highly recommend this as an audiobook.

Sequel to The Lightning-Struck Heart

Once upon a time, the wizard’s apprentice Sam of Wilds got his happily ever after in the arms of his cornerstone, Knight Commander Ryan Foxheart. A year has passed, and while Sam’s been captured five or six more times since then, things are pretty great. His parents are happy, Gary and Tiggy still eat sass for breakfast, Randall is somehow alive despite being older than the gods, the King rules with a gentle hand, Kevin the dragon is as gross as ever, Morgan sighs a lot, Ryan continues to be dashing and immaculate, and Sam is close to convincing Prince Justin they will be best friends forever.

Life is good.

Until it’s not.

Because Vadoma, the leader of the gypsy clan and Sam’s grandmother, has come to the City of Lockes with a dire prophecy written in the stars: a man of shadows is rising and will consume the world unless Sam faces his destiny and gathers the five dragons of Verania at his side.

And she brings along her second-in-command, a man named Ruv.

Ruv, who Vadoma says is Sam’s true cornerstone.

Review

(Book reviewed here previously)

Destiny of Dragons is the next step in the soap opera of the life of Sam of Wilds. And I can tell you I haven’t laughed out loud to a story as much as I did this one! Sam, Gary, Tiggy, and Kevin still have a rapport that leaves you clutching your sides in laughter.

Much of the story centers around these 4, as well as Ryan/Knight Delicious Face, Morgan, Randell, Prince Justin, and his parents and the king. We are introduced to Vadoma, Sam’s grandmother and Ruv. With Vadoma proclaiming that great trials await Sam and that Ruv is the cornerstone who will help him succeed. Secrets have been kept from Sam and his trust in the mentors he can depend on tested. The story isn’t all one liners. There are serious emotions and fears to be faced as the story takes off and Sam and his crew take off to find a dragon.

Sadly this is the second book in a trilogy and so there is still no resolve to the evil lurking in the shadows.

Audio

Michael Lesley has done an outrageously good job of character voices, nuances of tone and timing! I seriously wonder how many takes some of these scenes took, because it is just flawless in delivery! The added sound effects go on to make this a grand production instead of a story being read. Fabulous job Michael!

Review
(Book reviewed here previously)

Charlie Cochet has given us a day in the life of Dexter J Daley. It’s his bachelor party and where everything planned out, nothing in Dex’s life seems to go as planned.

This is a true portrayal of Dex and the trouble he seems to get into! What can you expect when he goes to his bachelor party with everyone but Sloane. Dancing, eating and drinking lead to some really hilarious situations. Only when you add Dex into the equation they are expanded into so much more.

Everyone is there, including Lou his ex, the whole Destructive Delta team and their significant others, all of the Hobbs brothers, Hudson and Nina, Austin and unfortunately Wolf. I will say I loved the part where Sloane makes an appearance.

You can’t help but laugh throughout the whole story. This is a nice addition to the series.

Narration by Mark Westfield

I have always liked Mark’s narration of the Thirds series, so this one is no different. He can add an inflection to make the line he is reading come alive as the story progresses, or have you holding your breath as the story amps up. Nice job all around.

Kill his lover or disobey his king and instigate civil war?

As the feared court poison master, Nikko is sworn to do as his king bids. As the lover of the king’s nephew, Lord Rodas, Nikko must hide his affection or risk being labeled a traitor and punished. A former thief who clawed his way into the palace from the filthy streets, Nikko longs to be deserving of Rodas’s love.

A respected war hero, Rodas is in a delicate political situation. He is not the kingdom’s natural heir, though many support his claim over the wastrel, Prince Fortin. The last thing Rodas wants is war. His highest ambition is for Nikko to openly wear the jewels he’s bestowed on him as a public declaration of their love.

Neither man is prepared for the king to order Nikko to poison Rodas during the solstice feast or for the deadly intrigue they’re plunged into, which exposes their affair and rocks the foundations of the kingdom.

Review

I was a little hesitant to read this story of a man ordered to poison his lover by the king, but I’m so glad I did!
Nikko is the royal poisoner to the king, (if there is such a title). He is also in love with the king’s nephew, Rodas.
Rodas is well liked, but runs afoul of the king because the Prince, (Fortin), is jealous of him. Nikko is torn between his loyalty to the king and his love for Rodas. I was pleasantly surprised at how the events played out, with Nikko playing Russion roulette with poisons and antidotes.
I definitely recommend this story; it’s a nice balance between love, intrigue, a bit of mystery and a (unconventional) HEA.

A Ranger Station Haven Christmas Novella
Park rangers Carter and Owen Williams have decided to expand their family and adopt two brothers—boys they rescued a year before when they tried to escape the foster system and flee to Canada. After completing their parenting classes, Carter, a reserved man who enjoys the simple life, swears he’ll be the best father possible. His patience is tested, however, when one brother adopts a cat out of the snowy Voyageurs National Park and the other brother refuses to talk about what’s bothering him.
Owen wants to make sure their first Christmas together is a special one, and he decides all of December should be a celebration. He has an activity planned for each of the thirty-one days, but none of them seem to go off without a hitch. The cat has fleas, the boys need to attend a court hearing, and Carter is more than a little overwhelmed.
But Carter is 100 percent determined to make his new family work. He just has no idea how….

Review

The author tells us that reading the first book in this series is not necessary, but I think it might be.  (Book one was from last year’s advent  :  https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33001905-ranger-station-haven?from_search=true)

On the one hand, I totally understood where these guys were coming from as the author did a great job of giving enough background information without retelling their “falling in love” story, but… I had such a hard time understanding what Owen sees in Carter. He was soooo grumpy and while it’s sort of explained I still didn’t feel like I connected with him – as far as his romance with Owen.

I loved the children part. Ugh! Totally crying! It was so sweet! Carter’s relationship with Luke and Legos is adorable and for that alone this was worth reading.

Overall I think you should read book 1 then read this because it was really sweet and if I’d liked Carter more I think I’d have liked this story more.
