The Dilemma (Sirius Wolves Part 5) by Victoria Sue

Marcus has just become the only human ever to be Alpha of a werewolf pack and thwarted the plans of Anubis to destroy the goddess Sirius’ creation – the werewolves.

Now, Anubis has decided to focus his efforts instead on Marcus and his new pack, to try and destroy the pack from within. In order to do this, Anubis seeks the one thing Marcus wants above all else and when he finds it, will use that to get him to walk away from his mates and the pack.

Unaware of the evil god’s plans, Marcus works together with Kellan and Ricoh, not only trying to help Nate recover from the vicious torture he has undergone at the hands of the terrorist group, The Winter Circle, but to also come to terms with leading a pack of over two thousand wolves.

Marcus soon will be faced with a dilemma, but will he give everything up for his mates and the pack or will the temptation Anubis offers him be too much for one human to refuse? Will Marcus put his wolves before himself or will he be tricked into leaving them behind forever?

This picks up right where we left off in book four – Marcus and Ricoh, Kellan and Nate are just now together and starting to work on being mated. Nate is still very traumatized and trying to get rid of his wolf. Marcus is exhausted from trying to make all his mates and his new pack happy AND his legs hurt. Ricoh is feeling insecure about being a part of this mate group and Kellan is working hard on soothing everyone.

The Winter Circle is still trying to get the upper hand and setting bombs to do it.

Though I love all the mates in this series and in this book especially, I found this book to be really disconnected for me. I wanted more time on relationship building and less time on the intricacies of the pack dynamic.

It’s not a long book and I know more is coming, but we barely got any time with these guys in the last book all together so I was really hoping they’d spend some quality time as one unit in this book.

We do get one very satisfying scene with all four participants acting as equal mates – yay! I look forward to the next book and finding out how parenthood treats these guys!

The Promise (Sirius Wolves Part 4) by Victoria Sue

The time of Anubis is at hand.

Working together against him, the goddess Sirius and the god Orion have helped mankind prepare by uniting Blaze, Conner, Darric, and Aden to fight the evil in the world. But in the war to come, the werewolves will need more allies, and this will extend beyond werewolf kind. Marcus, an ex-Marine who’d lost both his legs in a landmine accident, is now Human Liaison Officer for Blaze’s pack. Having lost his lover when the man couldn’t bear to live with “a cripple”, Marcus never expected that he’d fall in love again, let alone with the werewolf Kellan, who seemed to be universally hated by the pack.

The Winter Circle is moving, and a psychopathic pastor has abducted Nate, one of the wolves from Hunter’s pack. For once the wolves cannot rescue him — it has to be a human — and now Marcus must save the wolves from their biggest threat: one of their own.

If Marcus succeeds, he will bring in a new era in mankind’s battle against the power of evil, starting with a simple promise and ultimately mending four broken hearts.

Luckily, our group of four mates is happily still together and this story shifts it’s emphasis to a new group. Now we focus on Kellan, Ricoh, Nate, Hunter and Marcus.

Kellan we knew from Aden’s childhood – he got involved with the bad guys – again – and is still mostly a pariah, but the pack has accepted his explanation and is allowing him to live with them – though under a watchful eye.

Marcus is a human who lost his legs in the war and is now acting as a liaison between the military (humans) and the werewolves – since now the world knows about the werewolves.

Ricoh is torn because he thinks Nate is his mate and Nate was in collaboration with the bad guys so he shuns him and Nate runs off in a huff and gets – you guessed it – kidnapped by the bad guys and tortured. Hunter is the current Jefferson Alpha and Ricoh isn’t sure but he thinks he, Nate and Hunter are all three mates, but Hunter won’t give Ricoh the time of day nor will he put forth the effort needed to help find Nate.

Fortunately, Blaze and his mates come to the rescue, with Marcus’ help and manage to track Nate down, but now the water is even more muddied.

Marcus is attracted to both Ricoh and Kellan, but Ricoh isn’t attracted to Kellan at all and Kellan doesn’t show any attraction to Ricoh either… plus Marcus is human and “defective” (in his mind) so he can’t possibly be anyone’s mate…right?

I liked this story almost as much as book one. Yes, there was a lot of drama and miscommunication – but it was also a very sweet and slow burn love story that holds a terrific twist at the end.

Very well done. Luckily I have Book 5 to move on to, because we’re left kind of hanging (happily but unsettled) at the end of Book 4.

Eternal Circle (Sirius Wolves Part 3) by Victoria Sue

How can you repair something that should have been unbreakable? Darric, Blaze and Conner had been together for centuries, and their bond, like their love, should have been eternal. Blaze is trying not only to hold his family together, but stop himself falling apart.

The fragile relationship between the werewolves and the humans is at risk once more, and the goddess Sirius seems to have deserted them. Inexplicable changes are taking place to their little Omega, and while Aden’s powers are increasing, Conner seems to be losing his.

The terrorist group, The Winter Circle, is getting bolder and placing everyone in danger. Worse, there is a traitor among them, perhaps someone a lot closer than they want to admit. Just when Blaze thought the worst that could have happened is behind them, the traitor is revealed, and Blaze realizes that their circle is not only broken, but in danger of being irreparably torn apart.

So – Darric is gone, but the mates have a little one to raise and the Winter Circle to defeat so they have to band together and pull it together.

As with books one and two there is tons of drama: Aden gets a wolf from Darric as he’s dying and the wolf helps him to communicate with Darric from the other side. Kellan is still around and is having trouble still. The Winter Circle kidnaps Blaze this time and it’s up to Aden and Conner to save him. Luckily, Sirius and her husband Orion interfere just when things are looking bleak and save them all- including Darric! (Oh, and Aden is pregnant again with a super powerful pup this time that can do things from inside the womb!)

I was ever so pleased to read this. I finally got our boy Darric back and could feel good about the series again. I loved the special powers the new pup looks like it has and I thought the twist in the plot was really well done.

Having all four back and happy together again made reading book two ok for me. So … I’m apologizing again for not having faith.

Broken Circle (Sirius Wolves Part 2) by Victoria Sue

Blaze, the most powerful werewolf on the planet has found his omega, Aden. Together with Conner and Darric they finally become true mates, fulfilling an ancient prophecy by the goddess Sirius and forming Orion’s Circle. The battle against the terrorist group, the Winter Circle, has begun.

Blaze, however, is fighting his own battle. Aden is due to birth a child, and despite Blaze’s six hundred years of being an Alpha, nothing has prepared him for his hardest challenge yet — how to become a father. His struggles are hurting the people he loves the most and threatening their bond.

The madman who kidnapped and tortured Aden still hasn’t been caught, and when the worst happens and their circle is broken, Blaze has to fight his biggest threat yet – his own inner weakness – an enemy against which his Alpha strength will be useless. Blaze has to learn that true strength is only found in forgiveness, and sometimes the most powerful weapon is love.

(Book one Reviewed Here

Ok, ok, ok. I admit it. I read the reviews and I got super mad. I had absolutely ADORED book one and when I found out that something truly awful happens at the end of this book I got mad and I quit the series….I apologize. I should have had more faith… Luckily one of my reading buddies told me to give it another chance and I did… and boy am I glad I did!

So I’ll be very frank here – you might consider this a warning that there’ll be some spoilers – only enough to convince the worried readers like me out there that there’s hope.

In book one we met the four wolves who are to make up Orion’s Circle – a group of mated wolves all to one another that together are so powerful as to be the most powerful werewolves on earth.

They had finally all gotten together, but not taken the final mating bond step when Aden finds out he’s pregnant of all things. Aden therefore puts off the mating ceremony (because he’s too fat!) for the next 7 months until the pup can be born.

In the meantime, of course, there is a bunch of drama: kidnappings, traitors, new omegas, drama central! But most importantly, at the end – Darric is killed – yes KILLED – throwing all the mates into a massive depression.

But… have no fear – this gets fixed in the next book – so hang on it’ll be okay.

The drama can be pretty thick, but the mates are super sweet with one another and except for the horrible cliff hanger of an ending this is a great book.

Blaze (Fated Mates Book 4) by Wolf Specter and Angel Knots

A dragon who doesn’t know how to love….
Fate hasn’t been kind to Ivan, but he doesn’t blame her. He’s spent the last couple of centuries doing terrible things to the humans who live in the Eastern European territory once claimed by his sire, Nikolai… which makes him the last person with any right to expect kindness from something as fickle as fate.
It doesn’t matter that he’s changed, Ivan knows that some things are simply unforgivable.
Now, for the first time in his life, Ivan has people he can claim as friends. He knows he’s not good at friendship—and certainly not worthy of anything like the love he sees between the other dragons and their mates—but that doesn’t stop him from wishing things could be different.
A soldier who loves dragons…
Ty is dragonkind’s biggest fan. Three years ago, he’d learned that the majestic, fire-breathing creatures really exist when his twin brother was claimed and impregnated by one, and he now counts all the North American dragons among his closest friends. Ty loves everything about dragons; their loyalty, their protectiveness, their unconditional devotion to their fated mates.
He’s never admitted it to anyone, but Ty secretly dreams of being claimed by a dragon of his own.
That’s impossible, though. For one thing, dragons are male, and Ty isn’t gay. For another, all the ones in Europe–where he’s currently stationed with the U.S. Army—are evil… and evil is the thing Ty idealistically enlisted to fight against.
A destiny worth fighting for…
When a human and a dragon share a soul, fate won’t let anything stop her from bringing them together. But unfortunately, that isn’t any guarantee that life won’t find other ways to pull them apart…
Blaze is the fourth book in the Dragon’s Destiny: Fated Mates series. It is a standalone novel with a HEA ending, a satisfying epilogue, and NO CLIFFHANGERS!
Series Spoilers: Although it’s not necessary to read this series in order, Blaze contains “spoilers” for the first three books in the series.
Content Alert: This book is a steamy gay romance of approximately 100,000 words that includes a tea-drinking dragon who loves to cook, a potty-mouthed soldier who drops 797 F-bombs before finding his happily ever after, and male pregnancy, or Mpreg.

OMG! I absolutely adored this book!!!! (And not just because the author put me and my friend Karrie in as a character!)

I have loved this series since book one and each subsequent book has only gotten better and better. This is the fourth in the series and though technically a standalone it is far better to have read them and in order.

In this we finally get Ty and Ivan’s story. It’s been hinted at in book three that the cranky “used to be a baddy” Ivan and Ty “I want my own dragon so bad I can taste it” are mates and finally – FINALLY – they are! Ty and Ivan spend a bit of time “finding the other” , both despairing ever finding their own version of happiness as they watch the happily mated couples around them wallow around in mated bliss, but when they do meet it doesn’t all magically get easy.

First, Ivan has a history that sets off warning bells in Ty. Then Ty makes some mistakes that push Ivan away. Following that reconciliation there is the fact that Ty is still active in the military and must go on a mission for nine months. In other words – lots of drama!

But – man! – what a ride! Being in Ty’s head for this book – a long one! – is such a rush! He is hysterical. Every other word is f**k – literally – and he also has some other catch phrases that make him one of the most endearing MCs I’ve ever read. He absolutely steals the show as far as this series goes. I loved Zander in book three and he makes a return in book four – Ty calls him “twinkie” – and he was a great character – but Ty is so funny, charming and kid like in his adoration of all things dragon that it is literally – for real ( as Ty would say) – impossible not to love him to pieces.

Ivan is a great match for him – a bit of an Eyeore and gloomy, but so very loving and devoted once he realizes Ty is his mate.

I couldn’t put this down and was bummed that I had to work all day to wait to read it!

I’ll warn you in advance that the authors are not afraid of giving us a little angst and there is some sadness in this book – I for one was CRUSHED by the twist the story takes but later … ah – later I was elated so… it all ends up in a wonderfully sweet and super sappily happy ending that makes us almost forget the sadness.

I really can’t recommend this book or the series enough – 6 of 5 stars!

Mending the Rift by Chris T Kat

release day review

Dreamspinner Presents

In a future where man’s ability to reproduce is severely compromised, humanity has adapted to survive. Breeders—male and female—have become precious commodities, and they are strictly guarded and subject to limitations.

Luca Walker is a breeder. Though he knows what’s expected of him as the youngest son of the Northern Confederacy’s vice president, he’s held out against the pressures of an arranged marriage because he longs to marry for love, not duty. But he’s been promised to Colonel Liam Smith and there’s little he can do about it, no matter that Luca is secretly in love with his bodyguard, Marcus Gray.

When Luca finds himself pregnant with Marcus’s baby, Smith is furious and vows to take what is his—by force, if necessary. Now Luca must fight for his life and the life of his unborn child… as well as the love of Marcus and the happily ever after he’s always dreamed of.

I am a fan of Chris Kat and I love mpreg. I am not normally a fan of dystopian stories – but I figured I’d give this a shot because of the other two things going for this story.

Well… I think the dystopian part overrode my abilities to like this story. It was so depressing. I hate thinking about a future like that and it colored my enjoyment of this story.

Luca is a “breeder” which is a coarse way of saying he can become pregnant in a world where that is a commodity – bought and sold in the form of arranged marriages.

As a result he doesn’t get to choose who he loves, even though he’s fallen for his bodyguard. His fathers – who had a similarly arranged marriage – don’t see the problem but do (strangely) interfere in the process once it’s found that Luca is in love.

** Mild spoiler – I really didn’t like how Luca got pregnant and it really bothered me throughout the rest of the story.**

Since the story started out so rocky for me – it was definitely hard for me to push through.

In the end, I was never really enthralled with the relationship or the world in which Luca and Marcus live. I wasn’t sure what to make of the “intended”- Liam – and his role in the drama and I wasn’t even sure Luca’s father was “a good guy”.

I think that for fans of dystopian romances this will appeal but I’d stay away from it if you’re looking for shiny and happy.

His Beta’s Vow (Omega Born Book 2) by CR Guiliano

beta's vowBlurb

Sometimes…being a hero hurts.

Vann was thrilled for his alpha, Dryden claiming his mate, and now expecting a pup. Thanks to the alpha-beta link between them, the only downside was how much Dryden’s happiness emphasized Vann’s own loneliness.

There was a wolf who caught Vann’s eye, possibly his fated mate, but Vann couldn’t claim a male. It was too engrained in him to seek out a female mate. An alpha female.

Then, the unimaginable happened. Once again, Arri was abducted, and held captive. Except this time, Vann was as much a prisoner as Arri. Day after day, Vann endured Kale’s cruel torture so that Arri would be as safe as possible.

But the pup was coming soon…

…and Vann’s vow as alpha guardian took on a whole new meaning.

Unable to bear the shame, and guilt of his actions, and unwilling to return to Woodlynn to face his alpha, Vann fled, abandoning Dryden now that the male had his mate back safe, and sound.

Dryden was beyond worried that his lead beta, his alpha guardian—his best friend—had disappeared without a trace. Knowing what drove the male to take off didn’t matter to Dryden. Vann had saved his mate, his family. He’d fulfilled his vow, and then some. Dryden was indebted to Vann, and missed the beta desperately, more than he thought possible.

But Vann’s disappearance was only the tip of the iceberg. There was no peace for his family, he was depending on Rovyn more, and more, and yet, couldn’t because the beta had claimed his mate, and needed time with Anrean.

Then there was Border pack, his brother Massey having stepped down, and gone home, leaving Dryden as alpha to both Woodlynn, and Border. Not something that was going over well with the Border wolves. Even Kasp, a psychotic wolf who once belonged to Woodlynn a few years ago was challenging his right to lead Border as the alpha who bested Sbrel.

And to top it all off, Truin, one of his beta-in-trainings, and Vann’s fated mate, had left in search of the missing alpha-guardian, without permission.

His life in chaos, Dryden wasn’t sure what was going to happen. Would he defeat the challengers bent on destroying him? Would he, and Arri ever have time to raise their pup without constant threats?

Would Vann ever return?

First – ya gotta read book one for this one to have any impact.

Ari and Dryden mated and Ari got pregnant in book 1. Now… Ari and Dryden are hot and heavy and doing great until… another kidnapping.

This time Vann is caught too.  He’s forced to do something that might just tear him up and away from Dryden forever.  He’s also met his mate and is torn on how to handle that with his special connection to Ari and Dryden.

We get to see a lot more “magic” in what Ari can do, as well as meet a new Omega – mate to Rovyn.

I really loved how Dryden and Ari’s relationship only gets stronger and how the author shows us the new couples while exploring their relationship further.

If you were a fan of book one, you’ll love this and be on pins and needles for book 3!

Wulfgang (Bad Oak Boys 3) by Erin Leaf

After years in the military, Wulfgang Marrok has had enough. He wants nothing more than to settle down into quiet normalcy and live out his life. Unfortunately, the moment he meets his music history professor, “normal” and “quiet” disintegrate beneath a sudden metaphysical connection he didn’t think was possible. His mother is a werewolf, but he didn’t inherit her abilities… until now.

Silas River desperately needs a break from life as Bad Oak’s drummer, so he dons a disguise and heads to a sleepy little town to teach music. Of course, life always fouls up the beat: the moment his fated mate walks into his classroom, his dormant wolf side wakes up and demands attention.

For shifters, instinct trumps solitude. Werewolf politics and violent enemies trump peace. Can Silas and Wulfgang’s new bond survive murder and a loss so deep that Silas almost destroys himself trying to soothe the pain?

This is the third book in the series and it’s best read in order.

Silas is the drummer in the band and a cousin, so he knows he “might” become a werewolf at any time and that this is exponentially faster if he meets his mate. He needs a break from the werewolf craziness so he goes to Maine to teach for a summer – in disguise!- and is shocked to find more shifter craziness in the remote woods.

Wulfgang is the non-shifting son of a shifter and his mate who went crazy and damaged the pack then left in exile. He’s back because his mother can’t stay away from the draw of the pack and he’s trying to finish his degree. He’s immediately attracted to the professor of his music theory class but he can’t quite figure out what is “strange” about him nor can he understand why the bullies of his childhood won’t leave him alone. But he’s military trained now and won’t back down and he won’t let Silas get away with any secrets, either.

THIS IS WONDERFUL! I love this series so much! Book one blew me away. ( It’s fun, sexy, has fantastic world-building and a sweet romance that really satisfies on all levels. Book two wasn’t as great, but was still pretty awesome,( but this one either surpasses book one or ties it in it’s ability to draw the reader in and keep them captivated from start to finish.

Silas is a strong Alpha character with a lovely sensitive side. Wulfgang is a bit younger but also strong and a great partner for Silas.

There is a moment of true heart breaking sadness that will bring tears to your eyes, but the end is so beautiful and goes a long way toward making it better. If I have any complaints about this book it’s that Wulfgang and Silas could have really used some more time after the tragedy to really work through the issue – I’m not sure I felt the pain as fully as I could have from Wulfgang’s perspective.

All in all it was a wonderful part three to the series and I can’t wait for book four!

Ignite (Fated Mates #3) by Wolf Specter and Angel Knots

Ben wants a baby, and for five hundred years, he’s been searching for the one man who can give him that: his fated mate.
Dragon shifters have split souls, and when they find their other half, they bond for life. They also have the ability to impregnate the human men they mate with, and even though Ben knows that fate can’t be rushed, watching his two best friends, Maks and Dane, settle down with their own mates has him feeling restless… and impatient to finally find the man he’s waited a lifetime for.
When dragon shifters from Europe attack his friends, Ben jumps at the opportunity to move overseas to help contain the threat. And he can’t help wondering if he’ll finally find what he’s been looking for while he’s there. He does… but it turns out that his mate isn’t at all what he expected.
Zander is a loong, a wingless Chinese dragon and the child of fated mates himself. He’s young for a dragon, and idealistically determined to change the legacy of dragonkind. He’s convinced that it’s his duty to use his dragon’s power to right the wrongs against humanity that his kind have been responsible for.
Zander is passionate about bringing social change to the people he calls his own, and regardless of fate’s intentions, he’s not at all sure he’s ready to be tied down to a mate and child. When his territory and everything he’s worked for is threatened, Zander will be faced with losing everything… and finally deciding what matters most.
Ignite is the the third book in the Dragon’s Destiny: Fated Matesseries. It is a standalone novel with a HEA ending, a satisfying epilogue, and NO CLIFFHANGERS!

Content Alert: This book is a steamy gay romance of approximately 60,000 words that contains male pregnancy, or Mpreg.

This is the third book in the Fated Mates series and I really think it should be read in order to fully appreciate it.
We met Ben earlier, his two fathers helped our previous MCs through their pregnancies and matings and Ben is their only child. Ben is a super sweet dragon, with no territorial aspirations of his own, only a fierce desire to find his mate.
While waiting for his mate, he helps his friends by “spying” on the evil Nikolai in Europe. There – low and behold! – he finds his mate, Zander!
Zander is the son of two dragons hosting Ben while he monitors Nikolai and he’s very young in dragon terms. He’s got a lot of political and territorial aspirations and has no desire to find his mate and settle down…. Yet.
Zander is kind of a jerk for the first half of the book. He mates Ben then LEAVES – Ugh! Poor Ben is devastated. But the two eventually get back together in the interest of fighting Nikolai and are forced to work on their mating.
I won’t lie – there is some serious sadness in this book and it can be hard to read… BUT in the end there is SO much happiness and joy that it’s worth it.
I just know that Ty and Ivan’s story has to be coming soon – next?!- because the set up here is plain as day.
If you’re a fan of MPREG and Dragon shifters you MUST read this series. It’s so well written and most of the time it’s FREE on Kindle Unlimited! This writing pair is PHENOMENAL and I hope they write many, many books together! (I wish I knew who the mysterious Angel Knots is… so compelling!)

Mate of the Tyger Prince by Shannon West

release day review

Diplomatic marriages between two members of different planets certainly aren’t unheard of—but for Prince Mikos of Tygeria and Col. Ryan Donnelly of Earth, it might just be a fate worse than death. The union is meant to end a devastating war that has lasted for over a hundred and fifty years, but when the female bride intended for the fierce, sexy prince runs away, her handsome brother is substituted instead. Men are for mating as far as the Tygerian prince is concerned, but the colonel also happens to be Mikos’s sworn enemy, not to mention being completely irritating.

Ryan is horrified to learn that the Tygerians not only expect him to take the place of his sister, marry the Bloody Prince of Tygeria, and go to live with him on his mysterious planet, but they also expect him to undergo physical alteration to have the man’s baby! And nobody is taking hell no for an answer. Ryan’s being asked to turn his whole life upside down and the handsome Tygerian gets under his skin like nobody else. But with the fate of the universe at stake, how can he say no? Can the two enemies put aside their differences and focus on making love and not war—not to mention a baby? As a powerful love struggles to take root, can they learn to trust each other and stand together against the forces that are trying to tear them apart?

Mikos is set to marry the daughter of the enemy in order to facilitate a peace agreement between Earth and his planet. Marriage and mating mean a lot more than just a ceremony and rings to him and his kind, however. When he is “dumped at the alter” by the runaway bride her father and his offer up a solution – her brother!

Ryan is NOT on board with the plan his father has concocted, as a general in the army who has fought and killed the Tygerians, he’s absolutely opposed to marrying and essentially joining forces with one. But… if he doesn’t it could be costly to the peace movement and many more people could die. So he bucks up an agrees to the marriage.

Meanwhile Mikos is quite pleased with the alternative choice, now it’s time to convince Ryan that theirs will be a match more than on paper.

I had not read any of the other books in this series, so I can’t say how this fits in to the grand scheme of things, but I wasn’t lost and I felt like I had a good understanding of the world building, etc.

In this case I think that I both loved and hated the insta-love that occurred because both characters acted sort of bi-polar in that one second they loved each other the other they hated each other. This resulted in lots of hot angry-sex but not a lot of believable emotional connections.

I was also super disappointed that I didn’t get to see any action with Mikos as a tiger – though I understand it’s not a typical sentient shifter thing, but I do love it when we get to experience their animal natures.

There was a lot of super smexy times and a very satisfying HEA and that fit my expectations and was lovely. But… there was also a lot of melodramatic sub-plot that absolutely set my teeth on edge. I love mpreg and thought the device by which this happens was really clever, but having Ryan get pregnant and then making Mikos throw him over because he thought he conspired against him when ALL THE EVIDENCE points away from that made me want to punch someone.

I loved the “my two dads” thing but I never really liked Ryan and Mikos as a couple. Ryan was a bit whiny and Mikos was a bit of a dick and though there were lots of pretty words there wasn’t much time for them to really get to know one another or even like one another.

In the end, I would look at others in the series, but this wasn’t my favorite and if it represents the series as a whole, I will probably not read much more of it.

(I love the cover, beautiful!)
