The Avanti have made their way to Berinias, the capital and heart of Landran society. Not only is it King Kastain’s home ground, but it’s the seat of the Conclave’s power.
Dax finally gets to see Kastain in all his glory— regal, confident, powerful and downright sexy. As events unfold, Dax and Kastain realize everything happening with the Derin, with Martellon, Nestor and Teriva, is linked. Their enemies draw closer and the plots and machinations of the Conclave deepen. They just need to work out who is behind it all and what they hope to gain.
Kastain finds himself turning to Dax, the one person he seems to be able to count on more than anything. The bond between the two leaders is stronger than they expected, and they long for rare times alone so they can explore it. Instead their time is taken up trying to work out which Chieftains they can count on and who is attempting to undermine them at every turn.
When plots and betrayals run deep within the heart of the capital, who will succeed and who will pay the ultimate price?

Review
And the storyline continues!

With each of the previous books we have seen the political posturing of all the groups and in this story it all centers around the King , the Capital and the Avanti. Some questions are answered and more are asked. And while all of this is going on another of the Avanti finds the love of his life.

King Kastain and Avanti leader Dax are both strong personalities yet when they get the chance to be alone they really are both soft and caring men. With all the political intrigue weaved through the story there is also comic relief and also truly hot sex scenes.

Many questions are answered but nothing is truly solved. The story does end in a HEA for the couple, but those of us who are following series are waiting impatiently for the next book and the next set of clues to the ongoing storyline.

In this 50,000-word novel, Seeking Enrique, two men discover the warmth of each other in freezing and blustery conditions. But when one of them discovers he’s pregnant, will something more than the ice melt?

Review
For a first book by a new author I think Austin has a promising future.

The story itself deals with how when you talk to people they don’t, can’t or won’t hear what you’re saying. This happens to both characters. Jules, a book publisher, has a successful author that he wants to promote. He plans a three month tour, gets everything set and then cannot get in contact with Enrique. Rick (Enrique) just wants to write, it’s his escape, his refuge, it’s his way to live without leaving his house. From here you get the back and forth between the two, and it is well done. Misunderstandings as well as completely missing what the other person is saying and making assumptions on what is said lead you on a merry trip for the next six months of their interactions. With the dialog and misunderstandings this story moves along at a good pace, leaving you chuckling at all of their interactions.
This is a mpreg story and it had one twist that I haven’t seen before. I’ll let you read the story to find out for yourselves!

Review

I will start off by saying that I have a prejudice for this series. I have read all the previous books and have been waiting impatiently for this book to come out. I was not disappointed!
Hannah Walker has created a world with such depth and intricacy that you can easily see all the amazing detail of the landscape and it’s inhabitants.
I will warn you, that this book is part of a series and although each book has a happy ending there are several storylines running constantly through all the books. That said, Hunter’s Hope focuses on Hunter, an Avanti warrior and “offworlder” and Tir, a Chieftain of the Derin Clan. It includes family, both young children, brothers in arms and close friends.
Ms. Walker weaves a story that pulls you in from the start. As you watch the characters react and deal with the very stressful situations they find themselves in, you get caught up rooting for the good guys to win. When Hunter and Tir get together – their love and compassion for each other is so touching!
This story has everything, Love, Conflict, self-doubt, compassion, mystery and much more. The intimate scenes are well done and the love and respect each has for the other is wonderful.
For me this is definitely a 6 star rating!

Liam Scott is sick. That’s not supposed to be possible. As a wolf shifter, he’s supposed to be able to heal. The omega gene he was born with means he’s capable of carrying shifter young and Liam is worried that whatever is wrong will mean his one-day hope of having pups will be dashed. But despite the fears keeping him away from the doctor until now, he knows he needs to go.

It turns out the sickness is temporary, but the treatment causes a whole other problem.

Mason’s alpha gene means he’s one of very few wolves who can impregnate an omega male. For two years, he’d been watching Liam, but things kept getting in the way. When Liam shows up in heat, Mason recognizes the opportunity he needs and doesn’t hesitate make to Liam his mate and the father of his pups.

But Liam has old wounds and fears to work through which the pregnancy is only making worse, and Mason isn’t sure how to get past them to show he’s serious about making a life together as loving mates. It’s not until a female wolf decides Mason should be hers that Liam makes his biggest worry known—and Mason can finally put the fears to rest.

Review

This is a book for fans of mpreg! It’s a 100% angst free pregnancy extravaganza!

As the blurb suggests Liam works for Mason and when his heats start becoming a problem they end up mating. Luckily, both men have had their eyes on the other man for awhile – so everyone is quite happy with that result!

There is very little else in the story to worry about except for the “normal” new relationship followed by newly pregnant issues.

**

I thought the writing was excellent. Unfortunately, there was a LOT of sex and not much conflict to drive this story forward. Our MCs didn’t spend a heck of a lot of time in their shifted forms and besides being able to carry young, their shifter-ness didn’t really play much of a factor. Liam felt a bit too much like the typical romantic ingénue for my comfort and I wasn’t overwhelmed with anything “new” in this story.

I’m a huge fan of Duncan’s Forbes Mates series (https://openskyebookreviews.com/?s=forbes+mates) and I was a bit disappointed that this didn’t follow a similar pattern. It’s fun, but there just wasn’t enough conflict to keep me interested.

Fans of mpreg will be really pleased by the in depth exploration of pregnancy and the new relationship but fans of shifter romances might find this a bit lacking.

Have and Hold (Omega Wolves #6) by Willa Okati

31685041Blurb

Former bad-boy pack enforcer Alpha Scott knew he had to change his ways if he wanted to see his thirtieth birthday. He’s worked hard to remake himself, and now that he’s bought The Fisherman’s Friend he’s within inches of achieving his dreams.

Six months ago, Scott had a one-night stand with Maccabe, a feisty Omega. Maccabe didn’t know he was on the verge of going into heat, but when he realized he was pregnant, he figured it out. Maccabe hasn’t had an easy life either. As a teenage runaway he spent a few years making bad choices before he turned his life around.

Neither of them are ready to be parents. Neither of them expects to fall in love. But that’s what’s happening. And now it’s up to them to make the right choices.

Review

Scott and Maccabe never thought they’d want a mate, but when Maccabe ends up pregnant, they need to re-evaluate things. There is almost no angst in this short story. Just two guys getting to know one another and though they don’t address the elephant in the room til the last second – they laugh and enjoy one another’s company right from the start.

There’s a bit of smexy times and some sweet moments, but mostly a low key, slowly developing love story.

There isn’t much “wolf” in this – besides the male pregnancy – but it was a sweet story nonetheless.

Here and There (Omega Wolves #3) By Willa Okati

30051648Blurb

As the captain of a fishing vessel, Alpha wolf Dominic considers himself married to his work. That’s always been enough for him — he’s never been interested in a family. Until he meets Sawney.

Though he’s always wanted pups, Omega physician Sawney is committed to his practice and his patients. He’s never made time for a mate. But as he gets older he’s finding it harder to resist the demands of his body. When he meets Dominic, his urges catch fire and breeding with the Alpha is all he can think about.

Dominic proposes they strike a deal. He can give them both what they want, no strings attached. One pup, a good friendship, and all parties satisfied.

Only it’s not quite that easy. Passion and friendship are one thing, but what happens when the “single parents” realize they’re in love?

Review

These are all too short. They have these great MCs, we just get to know them and love them, and then – kapow. It’s over.

On the one hand, I really loved these guys and how their angst really just worked itself out. I loved how they understood the other and how they both just worked together to resolve their issues.

But, on the other hand, beyond some basic “paranormal” mating chemistry, these guys weren’t together enough as a couple for me to buy the ILYs – but I close my eyes and ignore that aspect – and really like them as a couple anyway.

I loved seeing Matthias and Bree again and am glad to see the series overlap a little with other MCs from previous books.

Overall, it was a good addition to the series and if you’ve been enjoying the other books, you’ll enjoy this as well. It’s certainly good as a standalone, but I think read in order is still the best way to go.

Safe and Sound (Omega Wolves #2) by Willa Okati

28936870Blurb

Ivoire, the packmaster’s Omega cousin, has gone and gotten himself in a family way. Abandoned and alone, he and the pup he carries are in need of sanctuary.
There’s not much packmaster Lewis can do about Ivoire’s situation beside busting heads and making the bastard responsible pay. And — while he’s away — making sure the young Omega finds himself safe in the hands of Zachariah, a widowed Alpha who’s turned his back on the rest of the world.

Zachariah is everything Ivoire needs, and Ivoire is nothing Zachariah thought he’d ever want again, but nothing good was ever gained from playing by the rules.

Review

This was a little too short for me. I thought the two MCs were sweet and the Packmaster is pretty compelling but I didn’t have enough information to be fully invested in their relationship.

I wanted Zachariah to explain Jace to Ivoire and I wanted to understand Ivoire’s situation more fully. I think they sort of fell into things rapidly and it felt more like a “in the right place and time” rather than any sort of personal connection.

It had lots of hot smexy times but I didn’t feel the “feels” as much with this.

(I think the price is too high for 59 pages…)

Divine Intervention: Angel’s Baby by Reegan Lynch

51XMRCjRNHL._SX311_BO1,204,203,200_Blurb

“If the Seraphim find you, they will kill you.”

When I agreed to sit in on my sister’s class to keep her from failing, I never expected him to walk through the door. Professor Rafian Castelli is stunning and all I can think about is how much I want to get my hands on him. Our one-time rendezvous is supposed to be just that–a quick, fiery romp with no strings attached. We part knowing we’ll never see each other again.

There’s just one little problem…

He’s not human.

I’m pregnant with his child.

And if he can’t keep me safe, I might lose everything.

The Seraphim are here.

This 48,000-word novel contains adult language and graphic sexual situations, male pregnancy, no cliffhanger, and a guaranteed HEA.

Review

Elijah ends up attending the class led by Professor Rafian Castelli help out his sister. The professor is HOT and ends up catching Eli up in a lie. They go to his office and have sweaty, UNPROTECTED, sex – which results in Eli’s being pregnant.

Since the world now knows about shifters and other things paranormal, a male pregnancy is not all that unbelievable, so after proving to himself that his symptoms are those of carrying a baby, Eli confronts Rafian with his news.

After confessing he’s an angel, Rafian warns Eli that he’s now in danger and he recommends that he go into hiding where Rafian can help him stay safe.

How can Eli just give up his entire life for this one night stand? How can he trust him? Does he even want a baby?

**

I went into this with pretty low expectations. With new authors and Kindle Unlimited, and especially mpreg, I find I can’t set the bar too high. But… I was very pleasantly surprised!

The writing and editing is excellent, the story is fairly well paced and the world-building is strong. I loved the secondary characters probably more than the 2 MCs simply because they seemed to have some depth and uniqueness.

I never got a strong feeling about Rafian – I don’t know what makes him tick other than wanting to be a father. The same can be said for Eli. So, though the smexy times are hot, I can’t say I really felt a strong connection to their HEA because I didn’t feel like I really knew them all that well.

In any case, there’s some action, some sweaty smexy times, mpreg, some wing action (I love that!) and a HFN. It’s not really a HEA because the ending is rather abrupt leading me to believe there’s more to this story.

If you’re a fan of angels or mpreg I’d give this a try.

The paranormal world is in chaos. The elders are tired of their younger people playing the field, causing trouble, and fighting with each other. Everyone who attends the UPAC Conference now has 24 hours to claim a mate of a different species. If they don’t, they will never have a mate. The spell is cast. There is no escaping the Midnight Matings. Beauregard Stratford is a bunny shifter. Simple enough, right? Unfortunately, he is the only white bunny shifter in existence. He also is cursed with violet eyes, hyperactivity, a strong weakness for anything shiny, and a penchant for leaving bubble gum everywhere. When he finds himself mated to Sebastian Drakus, a dragon shifter and prince of his kind, Beauregard can’t seem to make himself behave no matter how hard he tries. He wants to be good, to make Sebastian proud of him, really he does, but things just keep happening to him, bubble gum mishaps, getting drunk, not to mention that fact that he is a true bunny and constantly horny. Nothing seems to go right. Can he convince Sebastian he’s worth the trouble, or will the dragon prince wash his hands of the whole bunny fiasco?

Review

If you are in the mood for something just silly, fun, sexy, and sentimental – this is for you!

This is an entire series, but you don’t necessarily have to read them in order. The first little bit explains the setting/rules for why there is an enforced order for shifters to find mates of an opposite species – something about strengthening bonds and diminishing in-fighting. Everyone is given some drug that compels them to find a mate – and they must claim them within 24 hours of drinking the drug. Then they must have sex with them once a day for the next several years or risk losing the ability to shift forever. So… you can imagine how this is gonna play out!

In this one, the Prince of Dragons, Sebastian, finds a “nobody” bunny, Beuaregard, and mates him. But little Beuaregard is disarming and absolutely charms the heck out of Sebastian with every little whisker twitch.

It turns out bunny shifters – male and female – can get pregnant! This causes a ton of problems between Sebastian and Beuaregard when Sebastian ASSUMES it’s not his baby… disaster almost strikes but luckily they figure things out just in time.

It’s a really funny, sexy and sweet story – most of the stories in this series are like this – and I highly recommend it for fans of shifter romance.

Audio

Johnny East gives this a very melodramatic sort of feel – he’s fun to listen to in that “soap opera” way and I enjoyed listening to it very much.
