As part of the investigation into the murder of a young woman, Seattle P.I. Tony DeMarco poses as a patient of Dr. Jack Halloran, the therapist who treated the victim at a Seattle sex clinic. This isn’t the first time Tony has gone undercover, but it’s the first time he’s wanted to go under covers with one of his suspects. He can’t help it –Jack Halloran is just the kind of steely eyed hero Tony likes. But he’ll have to prove Halloran’s innocence and keep the doctor from finding out about his ruse before he can play Romeo.
Dr. Halloran has his own issues, including a damaged right arm sustained in the line of duty as a combat surgeon in Iraq and the PTSD that followed. He’s confused to find himself attracted to a new patient, the big, funny Italian with the puppy-dog eyes, and Tony’s humor slips right past Jack’s defenses, making him feel things he thought long buried. But can the doctor and the P.I. find a path to romance despite the secrets between them?

Review

Jack is a Doctor and a war hero who had to re-train from surgeon to sex therapist due to debilitating injuries.

Tony is an ex-cop, PI on the case of a murder of one of Jack’s former patients. Tony “pretends” to have a sex addiction and comes to Jack for “help” so that he can assess Jack as a suspect. Jack sees through the ruse and calls Tony’s bluff. Tony admits, finally, to having “a picky dick”. Meaning, that he has trouble getting erections except with a very small pool of men who manage to stimulate his “picky dick”.

Jack agrees to take Tony on as a patient, though he is concerned because he is not sure Tony is still being honest and Jack is already too attracted to Tony for professional purposes.

Together Jack and Tony research possibilities for Tony’s “problem” and at the same time build a smoldering sexual tension.

Tony essentially rules Jack out fairly early as a suspect, but still must investigate the clinic and it’s employees as well as following other leads.

Finally, when Tony thinks he knows whodunit, he now faces the task of convincing Jack to give their relationship a try.

**

I love Eli Easton! I am a huge fan. This was one of the first books I read of hers after falling in love with Blame it on the Mistletoe. There are several things I loved about this book (especially listening to it again after having read it several times). I love the characters. They seem so real and down to earth. I love that I get to learn something about sex therapy and yet it was still a bit kinky at times too. Totally professional and not at all demeaning to the profession, but still acknowledging the sexual edge that is involved in such an intimate form of therapy.

I also loved the gradual exploration of the feelings between Tony and Jack. It felt real and natural. My only complaint was that after Jack and Tony got together we didn’t get to see much of them as a couple. There was definitely enough to believe in a HEA (and we see them in future novels as an established couple) but I wanted to see more of them here.

Audio:

I had listened to Tommy O’Brien narrate before and thought he did a fine job. I was so disappointed with this. There was little emotion and the very slight difference between Tony and Jack’s voices was not satisfactory. Tony is this great East Coast Italian guy and it would have been so fun to hear that come out in Tommy’s narration. There is some inflection and in fact Tony’s voice is the only emotion I felt in the story.

*I can’t do this without you*

Chase Williamson was never meant to be a dad. Like it or not, though, he’s now the sole guardian of five-year-old Lyla and terrified of messing it up. He needs help, but who wants to rescue a high school dropout? Certainly not the gorgeous newcomer in town, even if he is an ex-Marine.

Hunter Duke is looking forward to a small-town life to drive away his demons. Maybe meet a nice girl? Adopting a puppy begins to fill the hole in his heart, but it’s an unlikely friendship with Chase and his daughter that really starts to make Hidden Creek feel like home.

When social services threaten to take Lyla away, Hunter knows he’ll do anything to prove that this town is wrong about Chase. Could it be that this is the family he was searching for all along?

Welcome to Hidden Creek, Texas, where the heart knows what it wants, and where true love lives happily ever after. Every Men of Hidden Creek novel can be read on its own, but keep an eye out for familiar faces around town! This book contains a three-legged puppy with attitude, a long-awaited comeuppance, and enough kisses to mend any broken heart

Review
I like the way HJ Welch’s stories make you feel good about life and that no matter how bad things seem there is hope. Chase has been belittled all his life by his Father and expects it from everyone he meets. His lack of self confidence meant he never spent much time with his daughter Lyla. Until that unfortunate day Lyla’s mother died and he has to become a real dad. Hunter is looking for a new start and Hidden Creek is just the place to do it. Both of them need support from someone special in their lives and they find each other a just the right time. This is a wonderful feel good book and I loved it.
Storm is part of a group of books written by different authors all centred around the town of Hidden Creek. Each book can be read as a stand-alone but the characters pop up in the different books. I’m quite intrigued and will be following them.

“Coming home from work to find my boyfriend banging our hairy, married landlord – in our bed – was bad enough. Discovering Jamie had also cleaned out my bank accounts made it officially the worst day of my life. I think I can be forgiven for wanting revenge, even if a few little laws (and possibly Jamie’s nose) got bent in the process.

“Fortunately, the law is on my side in the form of my oldest friend, Tony Gervase. I’ve tried to deny my attraction to the sexy trooper for years. After all, he made it clear long ago that he wasn’t interested in me that way. But if the hot encounter in his kitchen is any indication, he is now. At least the day is ending a whole lot better than it began….

“But the morning after, the Jamie situation goes from bad to seriously messed up. The jerk’s in more trouble than I could have imagined. And as it turns out, I don’t know Tony as well as I thought I did, either.

Review
This book started at a pace and kept right on going. Mark finds his partner Jamie cheating on him and that he has cleared his bank accounts, so he seeks revenge. Oh boy does he take revenge. The only problem is by acting on impulse he could get himself into trouble. Mark turns to long time friend Tony who tries to talk sense into him. You can feel the attraction between Mark and Tony sizzle, Shannon Gunn portrays this excellently. The confrontations between Mark and Jamie are relayed perfectly. Shannon Gunn puts so much emotion into his narration it feels like I’m there watching it all unfold. I must admit I really wasn’t expecting the story to unravel the way it did and all in a matter of 48 hours.
In amongst the wreckage of Mark and Jamie’s relationship Tony finally tells Mark he’s been waiting for him. All the time Mark has thought Tony wasn’t interested. When they get together it is so so hot. I liked it so much I got the other audiobooks. Let’s see if LB Gregg and Shannon Gunn continue to be as good.

Matthew Singer loves his two boyfriends very much, he truly does. But he’s uncomfortable with all the extravagant gifts he receives on their fifth Valentine’s Day/anniversary together. Nothing he says or does seems to discourage them. The gifts, sweet as they may be, are getting more obnoxious every year. Then he comes up with the sweetest punishment to dole out to his stubborn lovers.

Aiden Eastwood simply wants his boyfriends to feel loved. Since he has the money, he can spoil them both to his heart’s content. Ironically, Edward Langston is an emotionally stunted psychiatrist, so to show his appreciation to his boyfriends, he buys them the most ridiculous gifts that he can think of.

Will Matthew’s punishment discourage his lovers from buying more insane gifts in the future? Or will it backfire on him spectacularly

Review
I’ve not read anything by Casper Graham before so this book was a very pleasant introduction to the authors work. For quite a short story it gave me a lovely picture of the relationship between Matt, Aiden and Edward. Their back story is included in between the ever increasing extravagant valentine gifts sent between each other. It’s not just Valentine’s Day for the trio it is also their fifth anniversary of being together which is why the reminiscing fits perfectly into the story. Casper Graham can certainly write hot scenes. There are only a couple of sex scenes in the story but Oh boy they are smoking. This is a hot romantic and amusing story perfect to fill a gap.

Number one rule for a firefighter: never take your eyes off the flame. Male/male author A.R. Barley is back with a new contemporary romance series.

Former marine and seasoned firefighter Troy Barnes has always kept his sex life on the down low, until he takes back-to-back hits: physically injured in a suspicious warehouse explosion and emotionally blindsided when he’s ditched by his boyfriend. When a flirty young paramedic offers him a place to crash, Troy’s not so willing to give in. He’s never needed help before. But if anyone can break through his tough-guy act, it’s Alex Tate.

Alex has crushed on Troy since the minute he saw him. Now here he is, stripped of his turnout gear and recuperating in Alex’s bed. The tattooed hero may be a fantasy-come-true, but Alex wants more than rebound sex—and he’s not sure Troy’s ex is gone or forgotten.

As each night brings them closer together, Troy realizes there’s more to Alex than he’d ever imagined. And with an arsonist loose in Manhattan, neither he nor Alex realizes just how combustible things are going to get.

This book is approximately 64,000 words

Review

This was really, really good! It had so many things that I love. Firefighters, paramedics, a funny family, some denial, the right opportunity, a dangerous setting and the chance for one MC to constantly take care of the other MC’s boo-boos!

Troy and Alex are a great couple and their romance felt really natural and proceeded in a way that felt appropriate. They had wonderful chemistry and the other “story” about the arsonist was involving without being overwhelming.

I really enjoyed this and am looking forward to more in this series!

When wounded doctor Laurence Payne is stranded in the snowy English countryside on Christmas Eve, 1946, he is surprised to stumble upon Mistle Cottage and its mysterious inhabitant. Avery claims to be an Elizabethan wizard, and Laurence struggles to explain away the atmosphere of the cottage as mere coincidence and trickery. He spends a magical twelve days of Christmas celebrating with Avery, but then wakes to find his lover has vanished and the cottage has fallen to ruin overnight.

Laurence’s investigations lead him to the story of an ancient fairy curse—Avery is doomed to spend only Christmas Eve to Twelfth Night in human form until he finds true love. Laurence sets out to give Avery the greatest gift of all—his heart and with it the chance to live for more than the fleeting winter weeks he’s been sentenced to.

Review

This is a very well written, well developed, mix between an historical and fantasy romance. Quite unique! It’s very British as well, and the secondary characters are great!

I really felt immersed in the time period as well as the country.

I’d have given this 5 stars if there’d been a bit more chemistry between our MCs – they felt more thrown together out of necessity rather than combustible desire – but it fit the times.

I loved how pragmatic they were about Laurence’s injury and how they problem solved to work around it!

Thoroughly enjoyable!

With love and ghosts, the challenge is figuring out what’s real.

Software engineer Cruz Guthrie needs money for his sister’s cancer treatments. He needs it so badly he’s willing to stand in for a ghost hunter friend and investigate a millionaire’s supposed specters. It should be an easy gig—after all, nobody thinks the haunting is real.

When they learn the paranormal activity centers on Brody, Cruz is willing to fight to free Brody from the entities determined to make his life miserable. With a little help from friends and family—both living and dead—they must figure out why Brody is attracting spirits and how to banish them. Only then can they pursue a future together

Review
From the title I wasn’t sure about this story but seriously I should not judge. This a lovely paranormal story. Cruz reluctantly agrees to stand in for his friend, who is a genuine ghost hunter, on a seemingly easy job. I liked how Brody whilst suspicious of Cruz as a ghost hunter was still willing, for his father’s sake, to see the eviction through. Especially as Brody’s relationship with his father is already tense. The flow of the story is really good and kept me interested. I wanted to know if Cruz would tell Brody he was not a real ghost hunter, if there really was a ghost and who was it. I do like a mystery and if it’s a real ghost story so much the better. This story took a great unexpected turn about halfway through which brought Cruz and Brody even closer together. As the story progresses I got more into it, it did feel a bit slow at the start. I really liked Etienne, the real ghost hunter and his sister. I liked the little surprises the story has. Overall an enjoyable story with a satisfying ending.
Simon Ferra is a new Narrator to me and I really liked his style. I loved Etienne’s southern accent with just the right a of snark. Cruz’s forthright and honest manner came through clearly as did Brody’s weariness. Very good characterisation and story telling.

Now he has no job, no wife, no life—and is so full of self-pity he can’t even be decent to the one family member he’s still speaking to. He heads for Florida, where he’s got a month to pull his head out of his ass before he ruins his little sister’s Christmas.
Harold Justice Lombard the Fifth is at his own crossroads—he can keep being Hal, massage therapist in training, flamboyant and irrepressible to the bones, or he can let his parents rule his life. Hal takes one look at Pierce and decides they’re fellow unicorns out to make the world a better place. Pierce can’t reject Hal’s overtures of friendship, in spite of his misgivings about being too old and too pissed off to make a good friend.
As they experience everything from existential Looney Tunes to eternal trips to Target, Pierce becomes more dependent on Hal’s optimism to get him through the day. When Hal starts getting him through the nights too, Pierce must look inside for the knight he used to be—before Christmas becomes a doomsday deadline of heartbreak instead of a celebration of love.

Review

What can I say? I’m a sucker for Amy Lane Lite. I thought this was fantastic! I loved the slow build up and the achingly sweet way Hal and Pierce danced around one another. I loved the goofy “Looney Tunes” method of avoidance as well as the never ending holiday shopping list.

The entire relationship develops over a short period of time and it would have been great to see these guys later down the line, but I definitely think they got enough one on one time for us to predict success in the future.

If you’re in the mood for a lovely, tender and sometimes silly – low angst – holiday romance – this is the one for you!

Review

I am a big Kindle Alexander fan, this writing duo grabs my heart strings and keeps me coming back for more.  I read and re-read these author’s stories so it hurts when I don’t connect well with a story.

In this case, I felt that Thane was hard to love and I also got frustrated by Levi’s stance and inflexibility.  There was some amazing tension in the beginning and then the story got a bit “choppy”.

While I still liked this story, I didn’t love it and I still recommend it to fans of the author but it wasn’t my favorite.

Losing nearly everything leaves room for the one thing they can’t live without.

A few excruciating minutes pinned in a burning building cost Ryan Ward his job as a firefighter, the easy camaraderie of his coworkers, his girlfriend, and damn near cost him his left leg. Giving up, though, isn’t an option. Compared to the alternative, choosing a new profession, going back to school, and renting a room from the college groundskeeper are simple.

Until he realizes he’s falling in love with his housemate, and things take a turn for the complicated.

John Barrett knows about loss. After moving twice to stay in touch with his kids, he could only watch as his ex-wife whisked them away to California. Offering Ryan a room seems better than rattling around the empty house, but as casual friendship moves to something more, and a firestorm of emotions ignites, the big old house feels like tight quarters.

It’s nothing they can’t learn to navigate, though. But when dead bodies start turning up on campus—and one of the guys is a suspect—their first taste of real love could go up in smoke.

Product Warnings
Contains two hot men wrestling with a shift in their sexuality, as well as a few positions probably listed in the Gay Kama Sutra. But it’s not all about the hot and sweaty—especially when your previously straight life knocks on the door and comes back to visit.

Review
(Book previously reviewed here: http://kimichanexperience.com/the-rebuilding-year-by-kaje-harper/)

Ryan is a med student, former fireman who was injured in the line of duty, looking for a cheap place to stay while studying. He meets John on campus where John does the maintenance for the university. John is recently divorced father of two who is looking for a friend and someone to share expenses.

John and Ryan quickly become great friends and find themselves inexplicably attracted to one another as more than friends. Neither has identified as gay before but are suddenly seeing the other as very attractive.

There are a lot of hurdles. Neither is willing to jump into this without being sure of their feelings. Ryan has scars on his body that makes him leery of opening himself up to anyone. John’s wife and family aren’t going to see this as something to embrace. And – there’s a dead body found on campus and John is a suspect!

With a lot of careful movements forward and some deep discussion the couple explore their new feelings and in the end find a deep and abiding love.

**

This was one of the first mm books I ever read and I have re-read it dozens of times! I absolutely loved it. It’s a double GFY, both male “virgins” and they are so very sweet with each other! Kaje Harper is an amazing writer, she carefully crafts their relationship so that it is believable and romantic and yet full of realistic challenges and day to day hurdles.

I can’t recommend this book enough and I am ever so excited to read the sequel (finally!)!

Audio

It’s so funny how different (sometimes) a book can “hit” you when you listen to it rather than read it. This was one of my all time favorite books because it does such a nice job of really exploring “gay for you” and now that I know more about sexuality, I think John is probably more “demisexual” than bi or gay. I think Ryan is probably bisexual – not that any of this matters, but I was noticing how frustrated I got when both men jumped on to the “I’m gay now” bandwagon, when really… they probably aren’t.

In any case, I also noticed how much John annoyed me with his letting Cynthia get away with murder… and how wishy washy he was at times – well – they both were at times…

But… Gomez Pugh is one of those delightful narrators who could read me (probably) any book and I’d at least be entertained if not love it! He’s a great voice actor and really knows how to handle emotions and timing.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and couldn’t stop once I started.

Highly Recommended!
