Some secrets are too heavy to hold on to forever.

For Ethan, pretending has become second nature. After all, he’s spent the last decade pretending to be straight, pretending to be happy, and pretending he isn’t desperately in love with his best friend. But in a single moment of raw honesty, all those lies come crashing down around him and he’s left wondering what to do next.

When Jase learns his best friend is going through a breakup, his first instinct is to come to Ethan’s rescue, and he knows just the thing to help. The cabin where they spent summers as kids is sitting vacant, and a week there is the perfect remedy to start healing a broken heart.

In the seclusion of the mountains, long-buried fears and emotions take their friendship into unexplored territory that will either bring them closer together… or tear everything apart

Review

The story stars off with Jase whisking his best friend Ethan off to a cabin that they spent their childhood at after Ethan breaks up with his long-time girlfriend. Ethan eventually tells Jase the reason behind the breakup. He’s gay. Jase has trouble coming to terms with this. Jase can’t stand the thought of Ethan with other men. He’s confused by these feelings but admits to himself that he’s been attracted to men in the past. After an awkward first kiss, it finally clicks in place for Jase that Ethan has always been his. They spend time at the cabin exploring their mutual attraction, but Ethan knows once they leave that real life will come crashing around them. Jase really struggles with his “coming out” whereas Ethan finds acceptance. Jase is eventually able to realize that loving Ethan is the only this that matters.
This is the first book I’ve read by Cate Ashwood and I absolutely loved it!!! Friends to Lovers is one of my favorite tropes. Ethan has always known how he felt towards Jase, but Jase never even thought of Ethan that way. Cate does a great job conveying the characters thought and emotions. The chemistry between these two are off the charts. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Lover – A Survivor story

Life has not always been kind to Shannon Dupree. On the outside he’s carefree and fun loving, but when it comes to his past he’s evasive and secretive. Running away from emotionally bereft parents at just fifteen, Shannon escapes life with them but steps into the waiting arms of the devil.

Rory Landers is a rising star at the Bureau. His personal life, however, is nothing to write home about. He hopes to take his limited relationship with Frank Moore to the next level when they finally solve the Langford murder case, but that doesn’t turn out as planned. On the plus side, he meets free-spirited college senior Shannon Dupree.

Rand Davis finds himself fortysomething and single when his partner of more than a decade is unfaithful. Taking over the Cold Case Squad frees up some of his time, and Rand welcomes newfound friendships within the Langford-Moore family circle. He thinks relationships are not in the cards for him until he meets an agent with an attitude and a vivacious blond that make him want so much more.

Past, present, pain, and suffering collide, ushering in the possibility of a life and love worth fighting for. Although their personalities couldn’t be more different, their three hearts beat the same. Shannon, Rory, and Rand learn the definition of love, commitment, and strength and if they allow themselves, the trio will find all that and more—in each other.

Review

(Book reviewed here previously)

I definitely enjoy this series. I thought book 1 was amazing and really heart wrenching at times. This had some of that same emotional pull but didn’t feel as tightly presented as book 1.

I’m not always a big fan of ménage and it has to be done right for me to enjoy it versus think it’s ok as far as the romance goes. For me – the chemistry and the hurt/comfort was right on target for this throuple – however, I didn’t always feel they were equal partners and that Rand sort of felt like a addition rather than integral to the overall success.

Perhaps if the story had gone on longer or the throuple had developed sooner I might feel differently – but we get to see these guys acting as a unit for only a very short time and while it has huge potential – I can’t say it’s more than HFN for me.

The writing/editing/pacing seemed up to the author’s usual standards and I think fans of her work will be pleased.

Recommended.

Audio

Nick is awesome as always. He manages to keep each of the distinct voices in the throuple separate as well as unique and fitted to their character. He handles the emotions and drama well and makes their smexy times absolutely smolder!

I absolutely adore listening to this narrator and I always know he will not only do a writer’s words justice but that he will – in many cases – add to the overall experience and make it better!

Highly recommended!

Gareth’s heart is set on Cam, but Cam’s heart broke a long time ago.

As alpha of the Regent’s Park Pack, Cam’s focus is always centred on its members—his personal life pushed aside after the death of his wife. Now that his pack has merged with the Primrose Hill shifters, he can’t afford any distractions.

Gareth’s been in love with his alpha for years, but his position as beta complicates matters. Added to the fact Cam still mourns his late wife, Gareth knows his feelings will never be reciprocated, so he buries them deep.

With the two packs already struggling to unite under one alpha, they get a surprise addition—one who causes more tension within the ranks. Under such strain, long-kept secrets are forced into the open. Gareth and Cam must deal with the aftermath, while also keeping the pack’s best interests at heart.

Review

I’d been dying to read Gareth’s story ever since reading about him in Bitten by mistake, the first book in this amazing series. And it was so worth the wait!

This book had me on the edge of my seat, I just couldn’t put it down. I loved it so much!

Gareth is Cam’s youngest beta and has been in love with his alpha for years, thinking he doesn’t stand a chance with Cam.
After the loss of his wife, Cam has shut himself off from his feelings, afraid of opening himself up to that kind of heartbreak again.

I love the build-up and the tension between these two MC’s, all the emotions and heartache on both sides… It makes it all the more rewarding when they finally do get together. Although they took their sweet time getting there.

Cam is taken completely by surprise when he discovers how Gareth feels about him, and he doesn’t immediately realize that he also feels more for his beta than is “proper”. I like that it takes him some time to understand this about himself. Otherwise, it would have felt too easy.

I loved Gareth so much! He’s been pining for Cam for awfully long, putting his alpha and the well-being of the pack before his own personal happiness. Poor man. He is so much the self-effacing, sacrificing hero and very much deserved his chance at love.

Aside from the great romance between these two lovely MC’s, it was also a lot of fun to read about the rest of the pack and the challenges the Regent’s Park Pack continues to face.

Raphael had no idea what he was getting into when he went to Castle Archangel to study the People’s oral history. He didn’t expect his wings to suddenly change from brown to the purest white—the mark of an Omega, the destined mate of the Alpha. There has never been a male Omega before, not in all the millennia angels have flown the skies of Earth. However, when Raphael meets ebony-winged Gabriel, the true leader of the People, he knows he wants this man more than anything. Change is not always bad.

When Gabriel’s wings suddenly turn to startling ebony, he must deal with the knowledge that he is an Alpha, a leader of the angels. When he discovers that his destined mate is a man, he must accept that being Alpha of the People means accepting more than he’d expected. When their current leader challenges him, accusing Gabriel of committing one of the People’s most dishonorable crimes, Gabriel must fight: for his honor, for his mate, and for the survival of the angels.

Review

As you can see, I’ve been on an Erin kick! I’m not typically a fan of angel stories but I liked this one quite a bit.

I LOVED the change in form our MCs undergo and the GFY aspect of this was really well done. The flying and having sex – super hot!

The story was a bit too short for me to feel invested in, but for a short story it did well.

I skimmed the second book – it’s M/F and it didn’t work for me at all.

I’m interested in book 3 so I might pick that up.

I’ll definitely be skipping book 4 as it is m/m/f which I generally don’t like much at all and especially given how much I disliked book 2 I’ll be giving that a hard NO.

Recommended for angel fans.

Liam is done with love, but his daughter Portia has other plans. When he arrives to pick her up from college, she sets him up with her friend Charlie, and merrily heads off to her internship without them. Liam is left with an uncomfortable hard-on for Portia’s bestie, and a long drive to Vegas with a guy too young to know what to do with a guy Liam’s age.

Charlie thought he liked girls. More specifically, he thought he liked Portia, but when her dad offers him a ride home after graduation, he suddenly, shockingly realizes that he doesn’t like women at all. He likes Liam, and he wants to hook up as soon as possible, and maybe not ever let go. So, when Liam makes an offer he can’t refuse, what’s he supposed to do? Say no to the hottest person he’s ever met?

Review

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I wish this were longer! Erin really had me hooked with these two and their romance just moved so fast that was pretty unsatisfying.

I really wanted to see this May/December relationship roll out slowly and/or at least watch these two mesh their lives once it exploded into coupledom so quickly.

Liam was HOT and Charlie sounded perfect for him and I was even proud to see a positive female character portrayed in this story – woot!

In my perfect world we’d have gotten to either take more time getting to know these guys as individuals or spent more time with them as a couple – however –

For what it is – an erotic story about a car ride – it’s way hot!

Fish Out of Water: Book Three

A tomcat, a psychopath, and a psychic walk into the desert to rescue the men they love…. Can everybody make it out with their skin intact?

PI Jackson Rivers and Defense Attorney Ellery Cramer have barely recovered from last November, when stopping a serial killer nearly destroyed Jackson in both body and spirit.

But their previous investigation poked a new danger with a stick, forcing Jackson and Ellery to leave town so they can meet the snake in its den.

Jackson Rivers grew up with the mean streets as a classroom and he learned a long time ago not to give a damn about his own life. But he gets a whole new education when the enemy takes Ellery. The man who pulled his shattered pieces from darkness and stitched them back together again is in trouble, and Jackson’s only chance to save him rests in the hands of fragile allies he barely knows.

It’s going to take a little bit of luck to get these Few Good Fish out alive!

Review

You know I’m an Amy Lane fangirl – so it’s no surprise that I loved this! This is the third in the series and they must be read in order. In fact, you’ll be really confused if you haven’t read the other two and probably you should read Racing for The Sun https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17700033-racing-for-the-sun?from_search=true as well – mostly because it’s awesome – but also because Sonny and Ace are so prominent in this story.

Things that I liked:
Amy is really good at understanding what a sequel needs to keep us engaged. She’s given us Ellery and Jackson’s ILYs and commitments but we still worry about Jackson’s belief in the finality of the relationship and of his ability to be loved. This story moves us forward on that front without necessarily calling in to question the pair of them.

I LOVED that she brought in religion. (Don’t freak out – you’ll see what I mean – and it’s mostly a metaphor…sorta.) Jackson has to believe, has to trust and what greater example of that in a person is there than Faith. The stuff with Lucy Satan and Jackson at the hospital – Gold. Really lovely way to look at things and so perfect for Jackson the character.

I ADORED the link to RFTS. I love that book so much and frequently re-listen to it. Sonny is off his rocker but in a good way and I love re-visiting him and Ace and Jai and Alba. Now we get to add in Burton and Ernie – yes like Sesame Street!- and it’s even more delicious! There’s a new book coming out in October I think? – about these two and it looks AMAZING!

Things that were good:
The mystery/action etc was good. I’m sure she spent a lot of time working this out but – honestly – I skimmed it. There is a lot of blood/injury/hospitalization time – AGAIN – for these guys and I was a little over that. I was tired of seeing them hurt and wanted to see them hole for awhile. (My only real complaint.)

So – to sum up: this is awesome, can’t wait for the new RFTS sequel and you’ve got to read this if you’re a fan of either book/series/author!

Can a computer program understand love better than the human heart?

Archer, the AI at the dating service Q*pid, realizes humans don’t always make the best choices, so it begins making some unconventional choices for them.

Fox Kincade is the last of his group of friends to be single, so he’s delighted when he discovers a new match in his Q*pid app—one that, according to the new AI wizardry, should be the love of his life. Instead of the woman he’s expecting, he’s paired with Drew Larsen, a shy, somewhat nerdy PhD student who has also grown discouraged with romance.

Drew and Fox have little in common—aside from the fact that they’re both straight. Or so they thought. But as the guys get to know each other, they realize Archer might have the right idea. Their path isn’t smooth, because both need to overcome every idea they have about themselves and what true love might look like. But with the help of Archer—and some friends who have stuck with Fox and Drew through the thick and thin of their relationship trials—they might find their way into each other’s hearts.

Review by Morgan

This is a fun trope – the GFY trope and a double GFY – YES – sign me up! I absolutely loved this. It was sweet, romantic and my only (small) complaint was that I wish we’d had more smexy times.

What I love about this story is what I fell in love with in Frat House Troopers: great character development and a (mostly) believable way for two “straight” guys to fall in love! Where FHT had a little more pull for me was there was more “exploration” in the bedroom that I missed with this couple.

However – the upside is we definitely get a lot of emotional bonding and the end result is a really romantic story with a touch of heat.

If you’re a fan of the author or the trope – this is recommended for you!

Review by Karen

Cute and enjoyable read! Very well-paced story with a lot of funny moments and teasing banter between the MC’s.

I was pleasantly surprised by this original take on the Gay/Out For You trope, focusing very much on emotional compatibility and building a friendship first. Love and attraction come after, or at least, are only acknowledged after.

At first glance, the MC’s, Drew and Fox, couldn’t be more different. Not exactly “match made in heaven” material. Even worse, they both identify as straight, so it throws them for a loop when Archer, the Q*Pid AI, matches them. A 99.5 percent match no less!! In spite of all that, they each take a chance and start dating each other anyway – I mean casually meeting up – as friends do… in a friendly manner.

Drew and Fox are so genuine when they are together, falling into friendship/love almost seamlessly.
I loved that! If only Fox wouldn’t stay so willfully blind to his feelings! How many interventions from his bestie Chad does that man need?

I adored the secondary characters in this story, especially the two most important ones, Chad and Mrs. Schwartzmann. They are quirky, loyal and a lot of fun, as well as excellent friends to Drew and Fox, giving them a piece of their mind when they need it. Which is often.
Though I don’t know if Mrs. Schwartzmann needed to sound quite so much like a yenta channeling her inner Yoda.

I’d have liked it better if the author would have left the question of Archer’s independence, or the possibility of him going rogue, a bit more open. I think it a pity that his “acting up” was so neatly explained away.

A lot of attention was given to Veera and Archer, explaining the AI and the Q*pid app, to make it sound plausible and the risks more real.
I hope that means the author has other Q*Pid books planned!

Review by Sorel

This is an interesting book in that the story is told from three points of view. Drew, Fox and Veera, the woman who designed and programed Archer, the AI matchmaker.

When Veera programed Archer it wasn’t just to match dating profiles based on what the clients said, it was also to learn from how they used the internet, their reactions to memes and social media, but all within the parameters of the original profiles. Then one day, because of a communication error, Archer ignores the sexual orientation parameter and matches two straight men. Drew and Fox.

What follows is the story of these guys, both serial daters, who meet to laugh over the mismatch, then become friends and finally find the love they had been looking for.

I found both the main characters likeable, although Fox’s attitude to dating women seemed calculated and clinical, which was slightly off putting. But overall this a good fun story.

The cast of side characters were a great addition to the tale, especially Mrs. Schwartzmann, Drew’s elderly neighbor and best friend. Also dropping in on Veera and her chats with Archer added an interesting element to the story.

Overall, this was a fun book to read.

Little does he know that his decision to protect Alex may ultimately be his undoing. Alex tracks him down and the gunman follows. Will their love survive the ultimate test?

Reviews

This is a series that must be read in order.

It’s a friends to lovers, first time gay, bodyguard romance. These guys have been friends forever and though they live in different “worlds” have been living in each other’s pockets forever. It’s literally only the sex that differentiates them from lovers and once that barrier is crossed there’s no going back.

This is erotica, so a lot of this is hot smexy times – but it’s not overwhelming to the story.

I loved the chemistry between these two and found the continual “screw you” they gave to the outside world to be amusing.

The story line isn’t super believable and Alex’s continual denial of the danger gets to be annoying, but overall the relationship is enough to make up for these issues.

I am a fan of the author’s paranormal materials and I found this to be just as engaging.

If you’re in the mood for something light, a little funny and a lot sexy – give this a try!

Elder Bodb has walked the earth for over a thousand years. All that time, he’s waited patiently for Fate to bring him his mate. When he travels to the Falias clutch to share sentencing information on one of their former members, he catches just the faintest whiff of something…something intoxicating. His mate is finally near. After discovering the smell originated from the brother of a man mated to a gargoyle, Bodb learns that Nicholas Lindson doesn’t know about the paranormal world. To make matters worse, Nicholas is engaged to some socialite in Texas, and the wedding is only a few weeks away. Bodb discovers that’s not the worst thing, though. Nicholas is the heir to a Texas cattle baron empire, and his father is very involved in his life—overly so. Can Elder Bodb figure out how to not only share that paranormals exist and woo Nicholas, but to extricate his human out from under the father’s domineering hand?

Review

Elder Bodb is a gargoyle who is over eleven hundred years old. Nicholas is the brother of Mitch, who is mated to Kardamon (APL #23). No need to read Mitch’s story first.

Nicholas is engaged to be married to Sandra when he learns not only about paranormal creatures, but he is also chosen by fate herself to be mated to Bodb.

One major problem, Nicholas is a man of his word and calling off the wedding was not an option.

“My mate is a man of deep honor.” – Bodb

Then there is Nicholas and Mitch’s father Baltus. What a jerk!!!

“His father cared for one thing, and pleasure wasn’t it. It’s always about the bottom line. Money.” – Nicholas

I love the instant connection they have. Both are open to listening and figuring out a way for Nicholas to keep his promise and still be with his mate. Bodb may not find the situation ideal, but he will have his mate however he can.

“Please try to understand that you are my mate. A gift from the gods. And I am willing to do whatever is necessary to make you happy.” -Bodb

I hope there is more explaining at some point about “Uncle Albert”.

Charlie Richards always writes quick, hot and entertaining reads. As a huge gargoyle fan, I’m always excited when a new story comes out.
