MIghty Casey (Book 1) by Willa Okati

mighty caseyBlurb

The only thing extroverted Nate loves more than baseball is his quiet, reserved Casey. The feeling’s mutual, thanks–but it isn’t all fun and games. A wedding planner, Casey’s booked solid during the summer months and thanks to a certain poem about the Mudville Nine, cringes at the thought of ball games. Fair’s fair–with seven older sisters who redefined “wedding drama”, Nate freezes at the thought of tying the knot. Casey might wish things were different, but he wouldn’t trade Nate, his big heart, or his skills between the sheets for a wedding worthy of a Rockefeller.

After losing a strip poker bet, Casey’s promised forfeit is spending a full day at a softball tournament. He’s sure there’s more going on than a simple sports wager and wonders what Nate’s up to, but he’s curious enough to jump in and commit. And so, finally, is Nate, who’s planning a surprise involving an engagement ring and a proposal from the pitcher’s mound.

But things don’t go quite according to scheme for the odd couple when Nate takes his lover out to the ball game. And who knows what might happen when Casey’s called up to bat?

Review

We start this book with an established couple, Nate and Casey. Casey hates all things baseball/softball related due to an old poem about the Mudville Nine. Nate has 6 older sisters who have pulled him in to all their wedding non-sense over the years and hates all things wedding centered. Nate loves baseball. Casey is a wedding planner. Yup. Oil and Water. Right?

On the day the book describes, Casey is fulfilling an obligation to a bet he lost by attending a day’s worth of softball games that Nate has organized. He does so with a fair amount of grace and humor and the day is punctuated with sexy interludes in semi-public places.

Casey gets to see why Nate loves baseball so much through the eyes of Nate’s friends and co-workers and ends up actually having a pretty good time.

It’s no secret that Nate has something special planned for Casey and most of the day is a build up to this main event.

When the time comes, it is suitably sweet and touching with just the right amount of humor.

I liked this short story quite a lot. Normally I am not a fan of established couple books, unless I’ve been following the couple from the beginning. But in this case, the chemistry between the two is really hot and sweet and the story is fun and sort of exciting.

The baseball as background was cute. The secondary characters were funny and had their own stories to add, which gave depth to what could have been a fairly flat telling of one day in the life of this couple.

If you like baseball, sweet love stories of compromise and growth and frequent bouts of semi-public sex – you’ll love this short story by Willa Okati.

I really liked it and give it 4.5 of 5 stars

Good Bones by CC Flanagan

Ace Hoffman is a home stager who is trying to escape his latest closet case heartbreak. Zane McDonnell is a chiropractor who has made the closet into a comfortable home. They meet in a dark back room one night and part just as quickly, never to see each other again…

Until Ace shows up at the door of Zane’s brother to work on his house. Now the guy who has sworn off closet cases can’t escape the man who is afraid to show the world who he is. When one tends to run and the other always hides, can they build any kind of future together?

Review

Ace is a home stager who has been burned by closet cases in the past. Zane is a closet case. They meet at a bar, have hot sex, Zane leaves immediately after, “losing points on the dismount”.

Ace is working on Zane’s brother’s house and Zane treats him like a stranger, then gives him a blowjob in the bathroom. Needless to say, Ace is confused, but still very attracted to Zane, who is also confused but determined to stay in the closet.

Little matchmaking friends keep the two running into one another until the sparks burst into a roaring affair that nearly burns out when Ace’s evil ex returns.

But, the matchmakers come to the rescue again and everything ends up very happily ever after. With a juicy epilogue to boot!

**

I loved this book. Loved it! I thought the chemistry between Zane and Ace was fantastic. Though sometimes inconsistent, Zane’s desire to stay in the closet was tempered with his initial caveat, “until there’s a reason to leave it”, thus providing the opening for him to explore this relationship with Ace while still maintaining his secrecy.

The secondary characters are funny and sweet and the friend/wannabe boyfriend Erik was a really nice, realistically-imperfect touch.

I loved that the “gays” were not at all stereotypical, even though Ace did have the clichéd job as a decorator.

I am a total sucker for an epilogue that wraps it all up and this trumps it by still leaving a little room for our Erik to find his true love in a sequel.
I totally recommend this book and give it a 5 of 5 stars!

Bayou Dreams (Rougaroux Social Club #1) by Lynn Lorenz

bayou dreamsBlurb

Sheriff Scott Dupree’s got more problems than he can handle. He’s alpha of his small werewolf pack and coming up for re-election as sheriff in a year. On top of this, his mother is casting love spells to find Scott a mate. It’s all Scott can do to keep the town and pack under control, let alone his urges to mate.

Ted Canedo is openly gay, a disgraced ex-cop from New Orleans. His patrol partner was killed on duty and Ted took the blame for taking protection money from the store owner to save his partner’s wife and kids grief. No one knew Ted was in love with his partner, not even his partner. Having him die in Ted’s arms killed something inside Ted too.

When the moon is full and Scott’s momma works her magic, Ted’s erotic dreams and his work as a PI bring him to St. Jerome and sexy, straight Scott. Scott’s stunned to learn his wolf is gay and wants to mate with Ted. Ted refuses to become involved with a straight man, much less a werewolf, terrified to risk his heart again.

Especially if it he has to watch Scott fight to the death for his right to claim Ted as his mate.

Review

Scott has a crazy mama who fancies herself a witch. She puts together some voodoo to try to find Scott a mate. Well – he finds one alright, but it’s a guy! Ooops!

Ted is gay and has no problem being so. He’s got personal problems that force him to move into Scott’s town. When the two meet there’s that instant mate chemistry which Scott does everything to shut down.

What happens next is the two men fighting their attraction and finally succumbing all the while dealing with mysterious events in St Jerome and trying to keep Scott’s mama from making things worse!

**

This was a totally fun, very sexy, “believable” GFY shifter book. I loved the heck out of it and it’s definitely the favorite in this series, though the others are great reads, too.

Scott’s mama is a hoot and the smexy times are scorching!

I highly recommend this to fans of shifters and especially “straight to gay” shifters.
