Asheville Arcana
Will love mean rebirth… or death?
In the course of his work with the Asheville Paranormal Council, reclusive three-hundred-year-old vampire Julian Schaden discovers young Thomas Carter, the heir to a long line of demon hunters—a legacy Thomas knows nothing about.
He also knows nothing about the supernatural world or the danger he’s in. As Julian convinces him and later agrees to train Thomas to use his abilities, he struggles against unexpected feelings. Thomas is too young and innocent to become involved with Julian, but opposites attract, and this is one battle Julian is fated to lose….
Julian and Thomas grow closer as the demonic menace advances. A prophecy from a dying mage comes with a bleak warning: to save Thomas’s life, Julian might have to give up the only man he’s ever loved.

Review

This is an amazing series. It’s really rich and full of tremendous world building with lively and engaging characters and a bad guy really worth going after.

I loved the relationship building here – I felt like it went at a great pace and kept me interested without rushing it.

Of course the virgin aspect mixed with the “slut” as partner was really hot! But it was also really tender and Julian did a lot of growing along side Thomas.

The action/adventure was just enough without overwhelming the romance.

Overall I think this was excellent and I highly recommend it to any fan of the author, the series, paranormal romance and fantasy. I do think this is best read in order but you could muddle though if you really don’t want to.

Playing it safe has gotten him everything – except the one guy he’s always wanted.

As leader of a covert unit of rescue swimmers, following the mission plan is a matter of professional survival for seal shifter Nate Landry.

But recent closure on a colleague’s death has Nate recalculating his own trajectory.

It could use a little nudge and a whole lotta juice, and he only has to glance across the cockpit for just the right source of turbulence.

Following orders has kept him sane – until the guy giving them goes full throttle.

Chopper pilot Gil Espinoza has successfully kept his thing for Landry on cruise control for eight long years.

That the guy once chose a fellow shifter over Gil stung like hell but kept him on course.

Problem is: the good lieutenant just laid down new coordinates, a radical turn into uncharted waters.

And if there’s one thing Gil can’t do, it’s ignore an order from Nate Landry.

I LOVE the series from which this is a spin off. https://www.goodreads.com/series/156186-grizzly-rim

I mostly adored this book as well and cannot wait for more! However, there were times when I was a bit lost as to why these two waited 8 years and until the end of the book to hook up… I was never convinced of a good reason and their actions didn’t match their thoughts and that kinda made me frustrated.

There is lots of dirty talk. Lots of feelz some cool shifting and lots of UST.

This can be a standalone but I don’t recommend it.

There is a fair bit of “action” but most of this is about the relationship which I love!

A Series of Fates: Book Two

Sometimes you just have to embrace your fate.

Seth has a secret: he has a crush on the human next door. His brilliant plan to meet Jack, the man of his dreams who happens to be an animal trainer? Take wolf form and ask his best friend, Max, to take him next door for training. Seth is the only one surprised when things go horribly awry.

Still, can this shy wolf and a human meet their fate as mates?

Review

This book felt a lot more authentic to me than book one, which is unusual – usually the sequel in any series is the lesser – but not this time!

I thought it was hysterical – really funny at times – and pretty smexy as well. There is a lot of unresolved sexual tension and then some resolved chemistry as well!

The “misunderstanding” is resolved fairly quickly and all in all I really thought this fixed a lot of the “errors” I saw in book 1.

Review
I have to say, I enjoyed this second book in the series more than the first. Whether we’ve settled in more with the characters or just with a slightly more cutesy story line, I found it easier to connect with the MC’s and fall into their tale.
Seth’s social anxiety leads him to think it’s a good idea to have some interaction with his human mate whilst in wolf form so he can become more at ease. But of course, with a best friend like Max, from book 1, hilarity ensues.
The attraction between Seth and Jack is clear from the outset and both men are really sweet and adorable, you can’t help but want it all to work out for them.
I loved getting to hear from Max and Christian, our MC’s of book 1, as well as Zeus, the pack’s beta. Hopefully he’ll be getting his HEA soon.
Something else this book had in its favour was the settings of some of the scenes, especially down at the lake. Both on a busy, sunny day and a quiet starlit night, it sounds like a wonderful place to be.
This series has gotten better for me and I’m looking forward to book 3. This book can be read as a stand-alone but for full enjoyment I’d recommend reading the series in order. It gives more insight into past events and relationships that are talked about.

Single White Incubus (Supernatural Selection, #1)

Blurb

Does a bear shift in the woods?

Well, partially. That was what got grizzly shifter Ted Farnsworth into trouble. He wasn’t trying to break the Secrecy Pact. He just wants people to see the real him. So he signs up with the mate-matching service Supernatural Selection — which guarantees marriage to a perfect partner. Not only will Ted never be lonely again, but once his new beaver shifter husband arrives, they’ll build Ted’s dream wilderness retreat together. Win-win.

Quentin Bertrand-Harrington, scion of an incubus dynasty, has abstained from sex since nearly killing his last lover. When his family declares it’s time for him to marry, Quentin decides the only way not to murder his partner is to pick someone who’s already dead. Supernatural Selection finds him the ideal vampire, and Quentin signs the marriage agreement sight unseen.

But a mix-up at Supernatural Selection contracts Quentin with Ted. What’s Ted supposed to do with an art historian who knows more about salad forks than screwdrivers? And how can Quentin resist Ted’s mouthwatering life force? Yet as they work together to untangle their inconvenient union, they begin to wonder if their unexpected match might be perfect after all.

Review

(Ignore the cover…)
Sooo much fun! The “misunderstanding” mostly works in this story. Our incubus Q-bert – LOL – thinks he’s going to kill any living lover so he agrees to marry a dead one – a vampire.

Our Teddy Bear thinks he needs to settle for the first guy who’ll have him because he keeps getting into trouble.

We get to see some of the MCs from earlier books, have some pretty sweet smexy times, lots and lots of giggles and some pretty sweet feelz, too.

All in all another great one from this author and this series!

Highly recommended!

He admires Thad’s loyalty and uses his extensive wiles to cultivate a little of that for himself. When Lachlan is injured wrapping up a case, will it be the catalyst his mate uses to reject Lachlan—his job could bring so much danger to his flock, after all—and send him on his way?

Review

Charlie Richards is a comforting read for me. I like seeing familiar faces, I know what’s going to happen in the story and there’s usually something sweet or fun that surprises me and keeps thing interesting.

I think you’re ok reading this as a standalone but book 1 would help and knowing the entire story – like a million books long by now! – makes it even better.

Recent Release: Mr. September by Bailey Bradford

Pride Publishing:

Summer fades into fall, but the heat isn’t letting up for this calendar man.
Enzo Mueller was glad to help out with the calendar shoot. His little sister, Nat, has been in remission for years and he’d do anything to help find a cure for childhood cancer—even if all he can do is pose for a charity event. That, and work three jobs so he can take care of her since their parents split a long time ago.
But raising a teenager and having a personal life are two things he doesn’t think can coexist. He’s resigned himself to being alone, aside from Nat, until he gets her through college. After all, no man in his right mind would want to deal with Enzo’s crazy work schedule.
Tony met Enzo when he waited on their table. Ever since then, Tony’s had Enzo on his mind, and when he runs into him again, something clicks between them. Tony’s daughter, Ina, finished her last cancer treatments weeks ago and she’s in remission. He’s been focused on her since before she was born, but now, one man is making him wonder if it isn’t possible to have more in life than he’d expected.

Review

This was a great little story about two men who have spent the last few years of their lives taking care of someone they dearly love. Tony is a single father, who’s young daughter finally beat her fight with leukemia. He has been secretly pinning over Mr. September, Enzo. He seems to be running into him a lot, at his daughter’s favorite restaurant and the gas station. Enzo has also noticed Tony and his young daughter Ina, but between his three jobs and looking after his 17 year old sister, he doesn’t really have time for dating. Things finally come to a head when Tony shows up at the restaurant alone, and both men admit to the attraction burning between them.
I haven’t read any of the previous books in this series and it is fine as a stand alone. I was a little shocked that this ended up being a shifter book. Maybe shifters play a bigger role in the previous books but here it seemed out of place. Its only mentioned a few times and even then its almost like an after though. Aside from that I enjoyed this book overall. The chemistry between the two men is off the charts. I will definitely be going back and reading the previous books in the Calender Men series.

Out of the Cage: A simple errand to the city causes a wolf shifter to bump into his future…if he’s strong enough to coerce his mate into embracing it.
Gracen Robicheaux felt his petition to fight for the beta position of the Stone Ridge, Colorado wolf shifter pack was a sign from the gods. After over two hundred years, he could finally openly express his desire for a male mate. When Gracen runs into the human Lance Coracans, he changes his opinion. The gods are laughing at him. His worst fear has come to pass—kids. Lance has a very young daughter for whom he’s fighting for custody. Still, Gracen reminds himself that Lance is his mate. Embracing change will be worth it. However, between an injured babysitter, a sick daughter, and pack challenges, their missed and rescheduled dates are piling up. Can Gracen convince Lance that he really is serious? Or will finding out he’s a wolf shifter be the straw that sends Lance running?

Review:
Gracen has left his old pack and come looking for a place in the Stone Ridge pack. He longs for a pack that he does not have to hide his true self from and no more bigotry to deal with. As he waits for the chance to join the pack he begins putting down roots and to his surprise he finds his mate on a trip to buy supplies. Coincidence brigs these two men together but is that enough. What will Lance do when he finds out just what Gracen is hiding.
Gracen and Lance’s story is a sweet and sexy read. The two men are instantly drawn towards each other and begin a tentative relationship. I enjoyed watching Lance and Gracen find their way to a happy ever after. The attraction that the two feel begins to deepen as they spend more time together but when Lance learns what Gracen has been hiding from him is it enough to save the bond that they have begun to build? The romance between Gracen and Lance is sweet, and they are on fire in the bedroom.
With the help of friends and pack the two are able to work towards happiness. Not only do we get a look at the different sides of Gracen and what a good man he is, but we also get to see the pack circle around and Lance and Gracen when they need it most. The author has built a wonderful world with strong characters and I was quickly immersed in their story and engaged all the way to the end.

Coming Soon! Lone Wolf by Anna Martin

Dreamspinner Presents
https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/lone-wolf-by-anna-martin-9890-b

October 9!

Blurb

Jackson Lewis isn’t a typical werewolf. He isolates himself in a small town outside Spokane and dedicates himself to making his business—Lone Wolf Brewery—a success. If it leaves him little time for romance, he’s okay with that. His soul mate could be out there somewhere, but he isn’t actively looking.

So he’s in for quite the shock when he literally bumps into his soul mate—Leo Gallagher, an adorable, nerdy, vibrant music therapist who’s Jackson’s polar opposite.

But he’s human. And a man.

Jackson is straight—or at least he’s always assumed so. Though he can’t deny his attraction to Leo, it’s a lot for both of them to deal with.

While Jackson and Leo figure out what their future might hold, they face prejudice from both the human and werewolf communities—including a group of fanatics willing to kill to show humans and werewolves don’t belong together.

Review

Man. Where to start?

First, I think it’s pretty clear that I am a huge fan of shifter romance and that I’ll pretty much read anything in that vain. I have a huge tolerance for believing the unbelievable and for letting my imagination get carried away with me. I also don’t mind insta-love and I adore fated mates stories.

In addition, I’m not a huge Anna Martin fan but I’ve definitely admired her work in the past and thought – based on the blurb – that this would be a slam dunk.

However… it wasn’t.

It revolves around a straight guy – Jackson has never and will never like guys. He only grudgingly admits that Leo is his mate and fights it tooth and nail.

Most of the book is these guys living apart and hating life at their respective fates.

There are at least 2 or 3 different side stories: the anti werewolf people, the anti humans with werewolves people, Leo’s roommate who gets beat up and who also hates Jackson but who is a werewolf himself… There’s a lot going on and none of it really materializes as a cogent storyline and as a reader I was either scratching my head about where the plot was taking me, rubbing my neck due to whiplash as the story spun around to another topic, or yawning because the two MCs were fighting – again! The steam between these guys was practically non existent and that was the only thing they had going for their relationship.

Leo is a doormat. He is hard to like even though he has so many elements of likeability. He’s a music therapist and that is so interesting but we get one or two moments of that taking place and effecting his life and then he’s back to being ignored by Jackson. When Jackson calls he goes even when everyone – even his roomy the wolf – says stay away! Jackson never convinces me he deserves Leo… but the Leo kinda brings it on himself by not demanding good treatment either. So…

Jackson brews beer and is reclusive and that apparently excuses him from being kind, decent, supportive, interesting, reliable, or not a douche. In other words – he’s a jerk from page one and he really doesn’t redeem himself. He hates being mated to a human. Hates being mated to a guy. Hates everything! He pushes Leo away then pulls him back then pushes him away then needs him when he’s down then pushes him away… you get the idea…He ends up buying an apartment/condo/business thing in the end and then telling Leo – oh – it’s ok if you want to move in too. (This is after they’ve already hooked up and are in the process of cementing their bond – I’d tell him to stick it and find my own damn house!)

While I know I have a bias against werewolf stories where the general population knows about them, I have read many that are compelling. And this just wasn’t.

While I appreciated that Jackson shifted – once – I despise shifter stories where the wolf part of their being is merely a characteristic and not integral to their being – and that’s the case here.

I really wanted to love this. But I can’t.

I give it 2.5 stars … but maybe that’s being generous? I’m just so surprised that this is from the same author who wowed me with Tattoos and Teacups https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15719569-tattoos-teacups or Signs https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24991214-signs which I loved…

Hounds of the Hunt: Book 1

NEXT BOOK: Pyro’s Accidental Shooting

Long nights hunting supernatural beings means little time for love in Adze’s life. He and his pack mates are what protects Melbourne, and Australia, from the things that go bump in the night—very real spirits and demons who prey on humans.

Every day Archie’s life is consumed by work as he desperately tries to pay back his student debt and a loan a boyfriend took out in his name. Tired and alone, he dreams of a future with someone to love and hold him through the night.

One fateful encounter with a nephilim gone bad changes both their worlds forever. Now Adze just has to convince his heart mate he didn’t actually kidnap him.

Please note: Archie’s Accidental Kidnapping has undergone extensive edits and rewrites since Toni is gearing up to continue the series. In addition, the series has been renamed so as not to confuse it with another.

The plot has changed, the world is different, 41,000 words were added, BUT the one thing that hasn’t changed is Archie and Adze.

Review
(Book previously reviewed here.)

This is a re-print and re-edited (longer) version of the story published years earlier.

It’s really cute, with some sweet moments as well as a lot of humor

I enjoyed the world Toni gives us with Hellhounds on patrol and crazy nephilim going after humans.

If you’re in the mood to laugh – give this a go!

Audio

Joel Leslie takes this fun and steamy story to the next level and gives it more weight than I’d even thought possible.  It’s still a hoot and tons of fun, but he gives it a bit more polish than even the original had.

Meet the Beteferoce brothers: five dragon shifters, each with a strong elemental power. And each with a fierce desire to find his soul mate…

He said he was flying on a silver dragon. He called me “Markus-meine.” Who would know all that? Who? And how?

SWAT cop and dragon shifter Mark Beteferoce had—and lost—a soul mate. He’s finally at the point where he can get through the days without thinking about what used to be…until he tastes Quincy O’Brien’s doughnuts and takes him home to play.

Quincy O’Brien is a gifted baker, but at night he dreams of soaring through the sky on dragonback and being topped by the perfect Dom. Mark satisfies the kinky urges Quincy has only explored in his subconscious, pushing his limits and caring for him afterward.

From the start, their connection was more than sexual. It’s known; it’s familiar somehow. And it’s slowly driving Mark insane. What shouldn’t be possible most certainly is, and the bond between himself and Quincy runs deeper than either of them could ever have realized.

Review

Mark once had a soulmate, but he was tragically taken from him. Since than he has hidden all his feelings and wants away never thinking that he would ever find love again. When Mark takes a chance and decides to try to have some enjoyment in his life again he finds Quincy. The two seem to be made for each other but after a wonderful night Mark hears words from his past come from Quincy. Mark is unsure of what this could mean but soon he must decide if he is truly blessed again with a rebirth of his soulmate and take a chance on love again or let Quincy and his second chance slip from his grasp.
I loved watching Quincy and Mark’s story unfold. The two men make a great couple. Both men have strong personalities and together they shine. It was nice to see the attraction that they share turn into something much deeper. Mark has lived in pain for so long and with Quincy he is given a second chance, but it is up to him to take it. I enjoyed the relationship and the banter between the two men. Mark is a good man and it was nice to see the different facets of his personality come out with Quincy.
Their story is heavy on the sex, but it is what brings these two together from the start and it is what centers and completes this pair. They are at the beginning of their relationship and it is something that is more than just fun and satisfying. It is a deeper level of connection for the men.
It was also nice to see the scenes with the three brothers and their soulmates enjoying themselves together, the strong connections both physical and mental was easy to see and the camaraderie was nice. All were ready to welcome Quincy and make him feel like family.
This is a sexy fast paced story that grabbed me right from the start and did not let go until the very end. The author has built a wonderous world around these dragons and I am excited to see what comes next in their world.
