An omega who can’t speak meets an alpha who won’t listen….

Karter Jenks is a first-year constable who’s still trying to prove himself to his superiors, so he isn’t looking for a mate right now. Soon, sure, but he also knows he has work to do to change his alphahole tendencies around omega rights. The Kell Iverson trial opened his eyes to how cruelly some omegas are treated, and Karter doesn’t want to follow in his authoritarian father’s footsteps when he finds his mate. And he absolutely does not expect a homeless omega vagrant and burglary suspect to be his bondmate.
Jax Orris escaped a life of captivity and pain to save himself and his infant son. Living as vagrants isn’t ideal, but it’s better than trusting the authorities who landed Jax in hell to begin with. When their hiding place is discovered, Jax is shocked to feel the mating bond with the young alpha who’s been tracking him—and even more shocked when the constable doesn’t immediately arrest him for his crimes. It helps him trust Karter enough to accept his help in keeping himself and his son safe from the men Jax escaped.
Jax’s story horrifies Karter, and he vows to protect his omega from further harm—but first he has to get his stubborn, angry omega to trust him. Trust is no longer in Jax’s nature, but he can’t deny his connection to the young alpha eager to please him. Jax never thought he’d want another alpha to touch him, much less mate with him, but Karter’s gentle patience breaks down the walls Jax erected around his heart after the death of his first mate. As Jax’s next heat approaches, the investigation into his captivity uncovers surprising connections to several previous cases, and the danger to everyone involved increases. Can he trust Karter to protect him, or will Jax’s past destroy their chance for a happily ever after?

NOTE: This is a non-shifter Omegaverse story with alpha/omega/beta dynamics, heats, knotting, and mpreg. In this world, omegas are second-class citizens with few civil rights and almost no protections under the law. Trigger warnings for physical, emotional, and sexual abuse

Review

After his mate dies in a work accident, Jax is sent to stay in an omega rescue. There his is sold to a pregnant omega fighting ring. After giving birth to his son he runs away from the fighting ring. While investigating break ins Karter starts to think an omega may be breaking into these homes and something is pulling at him to find the man. Eventually he tracks Jax down and discovers that not only is Jax his mate but was rendered mute by the men who ran the fighting ring. The two men are immediately drawn to each other. Karter is determined to be a good alpha to Jax and his son. I really liked the dynamic of this book. Jax, even though he is the omega he is slightly bigger and stronger than his alpha. Karter doesn’t have an issue with that, in fact he seems to revel in having a non traditional omega. Karter is my favorite alpha in the series so far. He is still a young alpha, who was raised in a conservative home and but he is trying to adapt to a more liberal way of thinking. This book was a bit easier to get through than the the first two in the series. The abuse in this book is a little less pronounced than the first two, but there still is some discussion about what Jax went through during his time in captivity.

Hell is a six-by-six jail cell and no hope for the future.
Kell Iverson has never raised his hand against another person in his entire life—and yet somehow he’s been arrested and charged with the murder of his alpha mate Krause. Sure, Krause brutalized him on a daily basis, and Kell hated his mate, but he never wanted the man dead. Not fighting the charge and accepting his fate is the easiest path—except Kell doesn’t think he’ll survive a week in prison, and he doesn’t want to disappoint his younger brother Braun by giving up. He also doesn’t expect to recognize the lawyer who shows up to defend him.
Ronin Cross was barely eighteen when he felt the mating bond with then-fourteen-year-old Kell, but his family moved away before Ronin could decide what to do. For the last ten years, he hasn’t forgotten teenage Kell, hasn’t mated, and now he’s in Sansbury Province to defend adult Kell from a capital murder charge. The mating bond is still there, but now isn’t the time to pursue anything with his fragile, battered, emotionally-damaged client.
For Kell, the term “kind alpha” is a contradiction, because he’s never known one. He went from abusive father to abusive mate, and for twenty-four years, he’s simply done what he’s told. But Ronin asks Kell what he wants. What he likes. Ronin sees him, and it’s both confusing and delightful. But Kell is facing prison time at best, execution at worst, and as his trial date looms, he can’t indulge in a fantasy that will never come true…or can he?
NOTE: This is a non-shifter Omegaverse story with alpha/omega/beta dynamics, heats, knotting, and mpreg. In this world, omegas are second-class citizens with few civil rights and almost no protections under the law. Trigger warnings for physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.

Review
Kell is a beaten down omega, in jail for allegedly killing his alpha. He seems almost hopeless but in walks the first alpha who was ever kind to him. Ronin felt the mating pull toward Kell when he was 18 but Kell was only 14 at the time. His family moved away to another province shortly after but he never forgot about Kell. An old friend contact Ronin to help with a defense case and once he found out that it was Kell he dropped everything thing to go to him. Kell of course is leery of any alpha but gradually he accepts that Ronin will never hurt him.
I think reads definitely need to read Saved before Seen in order to fully understand what all is going on in this story. A lot of abuse is in this story, mostly what was done to Kell in the past but In the end this story is about strength and love, it will break your heart but also lift you up!

Young Xan Heelies knows he can never have what he truly wants: a passionate romance and happy-ever-after with another alpha. It’s not only forbidden by the prevailing faith of the land, but such acts are illegal.

Urho Chase is a middle-aged alpha with a heartbreaking past. Careful, controlled, and steadfast, his friends dub him old-fashioned and staid. When Urho discovers a dangerous side to Xan’s life that he never imagined, his world is rocked and he’s consumed by desire. The carefully sewn seams that held him together after the loss of his omega and son come apart—and so does he.

But to love each other and make a life together, Xan and Urho risk utter ruin. With the acceptance and support of Caleb, Xan’s asexual and aromantic omega and dear friend, they must find the strength to embrace danger and build the family they deserve.

Review

What a captivating story! It surprised me and touched me very deeply.

I admit I was still a bit unsure about mpreg/omegaverse books, but if this is what I have to look forward to… Bring it on!

I fell completely in love with Xan and Urho, who are both amazing, complex characters.
Xan is so filled with self-loathing and he has completely given up hope on ever being happy or deserving of happiness even. It was heartrending to read. I wasn’t prepared to feel such depth of emotion for a fictional character, but only a rock would fail to be moved by Xan’s troubles.

Urho was a perfect match for Xan.
I loved their connection and Urho’s acceptance and understanding of who Xan truly is. The first moments where Urho gets a glimpse of Xan’s true self, and his struggle to accept his own reaction to that truth were so intense! Loved that.

At first glance, Urho appears to be quite conservative and rigid in his thinking, but he bends and even breaks the rules when he needs to in order to be able to help others. He’s modest and brave and oh…be still, my beating heart! Just such a lovable, strong & silent type hero.
Xan throws Urho for a loop, because he doesn’t fit their society’s established gender roles and so Urho is required to rethink some of his long-held beliefs.

I was a bit apprehensive about how Caleb would fit in. But I needn’t have worried. He’s such an extraordinary individual. The bond between Xan, Urho and Caleb is not a romantic one, but it is a deeply loving one, just the same. They’re a family unit. The author totally makes it work.

This book also stands out to me because of the astonishing amount of detail that went into the world-building and the great set of secondary characters that surround the MC’s.

I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

Warning for violent, non-consensual acts. This book does feature a strong hurt/comfort theme that involves references (non-explicit) to a violent rape.
Five percent of royalties received from the sale of Buyer Beware are donated to The Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13-24.
Colby
Until I pissed Lloyd off, I’d always thought that the Omega Auctions were an urban myth, something that packs used to scare Omegas into obeying. As it turns out, not so much. When Lloyd and Ivan delivered me to the auction house, it was immediately clear that shit had just gotten real. I could only guess at what Lloyd had written on my intake forms, but it was obvious that these people believed I was dangerous.
Rafe
“Usually only one reason that an Alpha buys someone like me,” Colby had said.
I watched the emotions flitting through eyes on a face set like stone and considered his words.
Colby might be bigger, stronger, and, yeah, tougher than most Omegas, but he was still an Omega. An unbonded Omega with no pack. An Omega who thought that the differences that set him apart, the differences that made my wolf scream with the need to claim him, meant that he’d stay that way.

Review
I have to start of by saying that there is a rape scene in this book but it’s only really talked about and even then it’s not in much detail. I think the way Kian wrote the scene and the following one was with great tact and not added for shock value.

Colby is an omega who comes off more like an alpha. He strong, tough and independent which immediately draws is Rafe when he finds him at an auction. Colby is a character who seems at odds with himself. He doesn’t want to be seen as weak but can’t help turning to mush around Rafe. His constant self doubt that he isn’t a perfect Omega for Rafe has him at one point trying to change who he is, which confuses Rafe and leads up to a big misunderstanding between the two characters. We get to see more from Trevor and Clint. I was really happy to see that Trevor has grown leaps and bounds from the first book. Enough so that even Rafe is intimidated by him. The story does have a happy ending but it’s not an easy road to get there.
Alexander does a great job narrating like always. I especially liked his portrayal of Colby.

4 stars out of 5 for book. 5 out of 5 for narration

He didn’t want an alpha to save him, but fate had other ideas…
Braun Etting was raised to know his place as an omega by his alpha father’s cruel words and fast fists, and he expects nothing but violence from the alpha who may one day mate him. His older brother Kell mated a cruel alpha who abuses him daily, and Braun is terrified of that seemingly inevitable future. When Braun’s father dies in a car crash, leaving Braun an orphan, he’s sent to a halfway house for omegas. But on his fourth night there, he witnesses a horrifying crime that sends him fleeing to the streets alone—and edging into his first heat.
Tarek Bloom is settled in his workaholic, single lifestyle, even if it is somewhat embarrassing to be a twenty-eight year-old unmated alpha. He enjoys his job as a constable, helping people and solving problems, so he isn’t prepared for his life to flip upside-down when he walks into his beta friend Dex’s apartment to help with “a problem.”
The problem turns out to be an unmated, nearly in-heat omega orphan who Dex and his husband rescued off the street last night. The even bigger problem is that Tarek feels the mating bond for this terrified omega immediately—and he’s pretty sure the omega feels it, too. But Braun hates alphas as a general rule, and no way is he giving in to the bond. All mating leads to is violence and suffering, so no thank you. But Tarek’s gentle kindness slips under Braun’s emotional shields, and Braun begins to want. To dream. All Braun has ever known is violent alphas, but Tarek is determined to make Braun trust him—and to trust in the idea of their happily ever after.

Review

After running away from a “safe” Omega home, Braun is rescued by a beta couple and introduced to Tarek, an alpha. Mistrustful at first, Braun can’t help feeling the mate pull. Tarek is determined to prove that he is not like the alphas Braun is used to. I wouldn’t say this is an angsty story but there is definitely drama. There are some unresolved storylines that are setting up the next book in the series.
This is an emotional story that Is full of social injustices. There is a lot of talk about the physical and emotional abuse that the omegas and even some betas go through which can be difficult to get through at times, Especially when you find out what Braun’s brother went through. I found myself captivated and drawn into this world.

Trevor
In most packs, an Omega, even one who couldn’t breed, was treasured and would be revered and protected, not cast aside. But our pack was not like most packs, and I was not like most Omegas. I was human, so I understood why I was being sent to the auction. I didn’t like it, but I understood it. Even if there had been affection for me, even if they had been willing to keep me as a pet (neither of these was the case, but an Omega could dream), Cal couldn’t afford not to sell me.
Clint
Omegas were hard to come by worldwide. While I would have preferred to mate for love, it didn’t seem that it was in the cards for me. I had taken over as pack Alpha five years earlier, and it was high time that I started adding to the pack population. Granted my pack is run less rigidly than some; the Betas in my pack are not just allowed to breed but actively encouraged to. Unfortunately, only a small number of Beta females are fertile enough to get pregnant, and I’ll be damned if I am going to hump my way through the pack until I find the ones who are – which brought me full circle to why I was standing in line to pick up the bidding paddle at the auction house.
Less even than a marriage of convenience, purchasing an Omega at the auction was more of a long-term service contract, a means to an end, so what was an Alpha to do when he found his soul mate on the auction block?

Review:

This is the first book that I’ve listened to or read by Kian Rhodes and I was pleasantly surprised that a book so short had almost everything I love about MM romance. Soul Mate for Sale is an alpha/omega shifter book with mpreg and knotting. There is talk about past abuse but not in any great detail. The story starts with Trevor our omega being nursed after sustaining a beating by his alpha for being barren. He finds out that he is being sent to the omega auctions. Clint is an alpha wolf shifter who goes to the auction in hopes of finding an omega to help with the breeding problems in his pack. He sees Trevor and is instantly drawn to the young man. Even after finding out that he is a rare human omega who can’t breed he ends up purchasing Trevor. Clint discovers how mistreated Trevor was by his old alpha and pack and sets out to show Trevor how pack life is really supposed to be and that an omega’s are meant to be treasured, revered and protected. Trevor ends up thriving with his new pack and finds out that they aren’t the typical group of wolf shifters but that they are werewolves.
The audiobook is only 2 hours and 9 minutes so it does have the instalove feel to it but hopefully we will be seeing more of Clint and Trevor in further books in the series.
I never heard of the narrator Alexander Collins but once I started listening I immediately recognized his voice and after some research confirmed that this is a pseudonym for Mark Westfield, who is one of my favorite narrators. He does an amazing job of portraying Clint’s softly authoritative demeanor and Trevor’s gentle countenance.
4 of 5 stars for the story only because I wished it was longer
5 stars for the narration

Recent Release: Doc’s Deputy (Arrowtown #4) by Lisa Oliver

Blurb

Deputy Joe of the Arrowtown Sheriff’s department has tried to hold his head up high his entire life, even though it’s never been easy. Carrying the Quincy name has been a curse he’s worked hard to put behind him, but when his two uncles get thrown out of Arrowtown because of their nefarious dealings, Joe found the courage to turn to the one man he thought would stand by his side. Being told he was “too young, too dumb and too well-hung” were not the words he expected to hear when his true mate rejected him to his face. As the man in question was the town doctor, it’s not surprising that when Joe gets hurt, turning up at the man’s surgery was the last thing on his to-do list.

Doctor Nathan Farriday (known locally as “Doc”) has lived a long life, and not always on his own. A long time Arrowtown local, Doc has watched Joe grow into a kind, decent, hardworking man – too good for him in other words. If asked, Doc could spout a long list of reasons why taking the man as his fated mate was a bad idea. Age and inexperience were just the easiest reasons to explain. The danger from his animal half was something he preferred to keep to himself. But when Joe’s family come calling and Joe is left badly hurt, Doc has to reassess a lifetime of bad choices.

Rampaging buffalo shifters and a bomb blast have the potential to splinter the tiny shifter town apart. In the ashes of the aftermath, the sheriff’s department work furiously to keep their population safe. But will Joe and Doc’s relationship survive the revelation of Doc’s biggest secret or will they be forced to leave the town they both call home?

This is a true mate paranormal (shifter) MM story that includes depictions of intimacies between men and some violence. The story includes Mpreg although it is not the main focus of the story line. Due to adult content, readers 18+ only.

Review

There is nothing ground breaking here but it is another example of Lisa Oliver’s ability to continue to impress me with her characters and her ability to show us true “romance” between fated mates.

I’ve loved most of her series and though I don’t love this as much as her Cloverleah boys (https://www.goodreads.com/search?q=lisa+oliver+cloverleah), this one definitely impresses with it’s humor and willingness to be a little goofy.

Doc is the older guy and young Bull – Deputy Joe are really sweet together and match each other well – once Doc gets over himself!

If you’re looking for deep and meaningful – keep lookin’! – but if you want sweet, sexy and fun – this is the shifter series for you!

Two princes.

Two vastly different cultures.

One contract that could save their peoples.

Prince Kylan of Dorvak is desperate to save his starving country. Hemmed in by looming mountains and the sea, there’s only one nation who can help them… the ship nation of Ysladre, barred from their shores years ago.

ShipSon Ferrin of the Ysladre Flotilla has never stepped foot on land, but if he is able to secure this alliance for his people, for his father, their names will be remembered for as long as their people sail the seas.

The agreement is simple:

If ShipSon Ferrin produces an heir for Prince Kylan, they will be wed, and their nations united.

But forces within the kingdom are shifting. Many chafe under the harsh rule of Kylan’s father. Some seek the opportunity to unseat Kylan’s family for good. The king opposes the possibility of alliance with Ysladre.

Kylan cares for his people, but as he falls in love with the delicate son of Ysladre, he also falls in love with his people—a feeling his father cannot and will not understand.

It’s a race against time to secure the alliance with a child before the people starve to death, a rebellion rises, or the king outright banishes Ferrin, the only man he’s ever loved.

Prince’s Gambit is Game of Thrones meets mpreg, with an arranged marriage, deception, passion, knotting, bloodshed, but a guaranteed HEA. (No main characters were killed in in the making of this book.)An Epic Mpreg Romance

An Epic Mpreg Romance.

Review

There were parts I really loved about this: the social commentary, the “stranger in a stange land” aspects, the unique shift of experienced omega and virginal alpha.   Those were interesting and well written.

What I didn’t care for was the relationship between the two MCs – I didn’t feel the emotional connection and their marriage still felt like a marriage of convenience even by the end.

It was interesting and I’d look for more in this series, but I wasn’t blown away.

Not enough shifting 🙁

Two broken omegas and one hard-edged alpha… three men who are stronger than they think… especially when they trust each other enough to be vulnerable.

A pair of omegas who are everything to each other…

Not only are they best friends, they’re also lovers. In all the years that they’ve been on the streets fighting to survive, they’ve had one end goal: to one day find an alpha strong enough to love both of them equally.

An alpha without a purpose…

Since his return to civilian life, Beaumont has yet to reconnect with society. Instead, he spends his nights running from nightmares and memories of war. While out on one of his nightly wanderings, the alpha catches sight of two of the prettiest angels he’s ever seen. Intrigued, he follows them home… only to find them taking refuge on a filthy, discarded mattress in an abandoned warehouse.

Three broken men who can heal each other’s wounds…

Beau goes from stalker to protector in the blink of an eye when his angels need him to intervene in a bad situation. Before he realizes it’s happening, life as he knows it changes to become something new and precious.

Lukas is the protector. He’s tough, snarky, and would happily give his own life if necessary to protect his Gid. Time and time again, he’s proven his strength by rescuing Gideon from would-be attackers. Now he needs to find the courage to let go and trust Beau to protect them all.

Sweet, angelic Gideon is used to being protected and adored. None of the horrible things in his life seem to affect him, because at the end of the day, he’s always had Lukas… and that’s all that matters. When the chips are down, can Gid discover his inner strength and step up to be an equal partner in this fragile new triad?

This mmm book contains mpreg, and intended for 18+ readers. Possible triggers for attempted sexual assault, violence, and breath play kink. Parts of this book are a little darker than you’re used to from Susi Hawke, but an HEA and all the laughs and shmoopy feels that you’d expect are definitely included!

Review

This was about what you’d expect it to be. There is a lot of sex. The two omegas balk at finding their “alpha” while the “alpha” doesn’t seem to have much personality or any fears/doubts etc.

I think – though I enjoyed it well enough – that the lack of any real bonding between the alpha and the two omegas as anything other than his ability to knot them made this less than romantic.

While I usually like/enjoy ménage – this felt like the two omegas were bonded and they needed a father figure/savior/alpha to knot them and make them daddies.

This wasn’t my favorite by this author.

I’m still looking forward to more from this series.

Foster Bryant

I’ve been pretty sure Burke was my was my mate from the first time I saw him on the screen he and his brother were using to talk to each other from two different places. But as long as my leopard doesn’t smell him, I can give us both the time we need to get our lives together. The key is not meeting him physically, until the time is right. The day I walk into my best friend’s house and smell the most amazing scent on the air, I know that I’ve run out of time to get my crap figured out. In person, he’s everything I’ve ever dreamed he’d be. And I’m all too happy to claim him. But he’s been attacked by a shifter, and just found out he’s chosen. I don’t want to spring this on him too, and end up making him run back to Georgia, like he’s always threatening. What I don’t realize, is that my fear of scaring my mate, is actually breaking his heart. Can I make it right with Burke? And can I save him from a crazed, shifter stalker, who is convinced Burke is his?

Burke Hilliard

I think I might be going crazy. Maybe it’s all the work. Maybe it’s my creepy, stalkerish lab partner. But only a mental break can explain said creepy lab partner’s face going all scary, and him attacking and biting me. Right? When I go to Purdy, Nebraska to get away from it all and visit my adopted brother Sutton, it comes with a special surprise. My brother’s best friend of five years. The one I’ve never actually met, but have been in constant battle with for almost as long. The man I’ve secretly had the biggest crush on, since the very first time he annoyed and then bossed me, while I was video chatting my brother. When I learn about shifters and mates, and what the mark on my rear-end is all about, I finally understand this draw I’ve always had to the annoying man. But if that is true, then why isn’t Foster saying anything? Am I alone in this crazy pull? And is it too much to ask for him to drop that stupid nickname, and continue to call me baby?

Warning: Mpreg elements!

Also, my books have little to no angst, and lots and lots of fluff! They are better read in order, because I kind of write them like a continuation of a story, and I don’t like to repeat explanations over and over if I can help it. No cheating, because that makes my heart hurt. Sorry, I just don’t want anyone being disappointed if they like the angst filled heart-rippers. These read more like a romantic comedy than a romantic drama.

Enjoy!! ::blowing you kisses::

Review

While I’m not reviewing each book in the series – they are all really good! I think each book can be read on it’s own, but each book adds on to the one behind it – so you might as well read them all in order!

This time we have sweet Burke and Foster. Their story was set up in book 3 and pays off here. Burke is pretty hysterical and Foster doesn’t let him get away with a thing!

If you like mpreg – this series is all about that, but not in each book, specifically.

There is some shifting but not as much as I’d like, but each story is short so…

In any case these are fun, sexy and a quick light read.
