Kelly Cannon is satisfied with his life. He has friends, a wonderful family, and a great job. But his love life has reached a new level of pitiful. Why? Well, his heart decided to break all the rules. Don’t fall in love with a straight guy. And definitely don’t fall in love with your best friend.
NFL standout Britton “Blue” Montgomery has pressure coming at him from all sides. From his father, who’s only interested in Blue’s football career. From his coaches, who just want him to play without getting injured again. From the fans. From his agent. And from his mother, who has popped up on the radar after leaving his family years before. And now his relationship with Kelly is on shaky ground, and that frightens Blue more than anything.
When Kelly admits he’s in love with Blue, bonds are tested, and Blue has to decide what’s really important. He doesn’t want to lose the number-one person in his life, but the cost to keep Kelly close might be more than he’s willing to pay.
It’s a good thing his nickname is the Blueprint—it’s time to draft a new set of plans.

Review

(Book reviewed previously)

I was really attracted to this because “Friends to lovers” and especially, first time with a man romances are some of my favorite things. I’m not a big football fan, and luckily the football didn’t overwhelm the story.

I thought the original ideas were great – long time friends finally explore some sexual feelings for one another – but the execution never felt good. Blue is mostly an ass and I never felt a strong connection between these guys – despite their being friends for years and years.

The sexual component was sometimes really hot and somehow felt flat, too. I just never bought in to Blue’s change of heart and though I could tell he liked the sex – I didn’t feel the emotional connection.

I think fans of the author, fans of football romances, and fans of gfy/ofy will probably find this at least entertaining. The writing was good, it was the romance that wasn’t great.

I love dual narrators and Sean Crisden is one of my favs, so this is an obvious win for me! I thought their VERY distinct voices really helped to emphasize the difference between the two mcs. Sean was lovely and growly and really suited Blue. Alexander’s Kelly wasn’t as “twinky” as I think I’d have expected but he did a nice job representing him.

Both narrators really tackled the steamy scenes well – and since there are A LOT of them – that is important.

Listening to this really brought home the fact that this is a HFN and I’m hoping the next book gives us a bit more of these guys- even though I know it’s about a different couple.

Blurb

When you fall for a fantasy, how do you know it’s more than make-believe?

Travis Collins, a straight college student, finds himself in a financial bind. He’ll do anything legal, including going gay for pay and spending a weekend as “Craig Rocke,” with gay porn star Marston Cougar. Marston tells him to remember it’s all fantasy for the camera even though it feels like more.

Gary Carmeletti, also known as Marston Cougar, has a respectable day job. He started out making gay porn to pay for college. After getting his heart broken, he has a no-dating rule. Now paired with “virgin” Craig, he finds it hard to keep it make-believe when he’s losing his heart.

Gary’s niece needs surgery, and he almost has enough money to quit for good. But now that he feels a true connection with his fantasy costar, will he be able to find a happily ever after when he feels it’s more than make-believe?

Review

This is one of the first m/m romances I remember reading and it (to me) is so romantic. Travis is so hopelessly in love with Mars and spends the entire time they are filming trying to himself out of it! The whole “big brother/reality TV” thing is absolutely NOT my thing and it in and of itself almost ruins this for me – but the set up is almost like a fake marriage and so it works.

As you can imagine this is full of hot smexy times, but it is also very tender and touching as well. I absolutely LOVED the ending and I still consider this one of the sweetest “hot” romances I’ve ever read.

Highly recommended!

Steamy Romance: Balls Up by Lexxie Couper

Blurb: Rhys McDowell. Striker for Manchester United. Bad boy on the soccer field. Badder boy in the bedroom. Rhys lives by the motto: never second-guess anything. His only regret in life is that he fell in love with the wrong man long ago, and no one has ever been able to erase that guy from his heart.
Until now.

Curtis Clarkson. Ex-captain of the Australian cricket team. A man once feared on the pitch, Clarkson is now a highly respected businessman with a devilish glint in his eye and a willingness to follow wherever life leads. He never expected it to lead him to a man. A cocky soccer player, no less. And a private shower in Heathrow airport.

When lust and desire take control of both men, all the rules of the game change utterly. Curtis never thought he’d fall for a guy. And Rhys never thought he’d fall again, period.
But when fame follows your every step, what happens behind closed doors doesn’t always stay there. And the penalty box may very well leave you not just sweaty…but broken.

Review: Now, this was a hot story ☺. Apparently, it’s part of a series but can totally be read on its own (the other stories are M/F). Anyway, Rhys is a footballer, trying to forget a guy he’s been in love with for a while. On a flight back to Oz (Australia), he bumps into Curtis, a cricketer. They’d met before, so they were somewhat familiar with each other. When their flight is delayed, they end up having a steamy encounter in the airport lounge shower, (and I’m not referring to the hot water producing steam)! There is also hot session at when they get together at their hotel.
Apart from the steam factor, there is a lot of humour in their verbal sparring. Along with the situation of both men being dogged by the press and making their relationship public makes this novella fun to read.

Two plus one equals scorching hot fun.

Dumped by his boyfriend and reduced to living in a grotty bedsit, Josh Carpenter has gotten used to expecting the worst. Now he lives only for his job as a glassblower…and occasional glimpses of his sexy downstairs neighbors, Rai Nakamura and Evan Truman.

Every time he overhears the diminutive academic and the hunky plumber having loud and obviously kinky sex, Josh is overwhelmed with lust…and a longing for a fraction of what they have.

To his amazement, Rai and Evan find his embarrassing tendency to blush utterly charming, and the three men grow closer over the course of the long, hot summer. Despite Rai’s charming flirtation and Evan’s smoldering gaze, Josh is determined never to break his new friends’ loving bonds.

On the night a naked Josh falls—quite literally—into the middle of one of Rai and Evan’s marathon sex sessions, the force of their mutual attraction takes control. But just as Josh dares to hope, he senses a change. Leaving him to wonder if the winds of love are about to blow his way at last…or if history is about to repeat itself

Review
This hot story is told from shy insecure Josh’s point of view. We get a very brief glimpse into his history, an overbearing father, no other family and not much luck in love. This helped me to understand his reticence and why his first thought was always one of rejection. Rai and Evan live in the flat (apartment) below his and above his bossy friend Denise. I do like Myles writing. She is very British. The phrasing and descriptions she uses gives me a good sense of a crumbling Victorian or Georgian divided house they all live in and the type of people they are. Rai and Evan are in a long term relationship, they do however like to have a third join them from time to time. They are also a bit of exhibitions and love to explore anything kinky. This is where the hot fun comes in. Rai is certainly imaginative and they are all so randy. It’s very fun to read. Josh, is shy, never felt he’s entitled to ask for what he wants. Rai and Evan bring this out in him, get him to overcome his tongue tied reticence. I wouldn’t say Josh blossoms with them, it’s not in his nature to be forthright but he does find love and somewhere he belongs. Two men who love him back. I loved the mix of humour and serious relationship issues. Its not easy introducing another into an all ready established relationship or being the third coming in. That mixed with Josh’s insecurities made it all very credible to me.
I loved the bonus Christmas story at the end, made me laugh just picturing the scene.

Would you live a lie to hold onto the one you love?
Dean and Jason are best friends, like brothers since boyhood, now architecture students and college roommates. They’ve always had each other’s back, but when one walks in on the other with another man, everything changes. How do you explain to your best friend that he’s the one you’ve always wanted, that until now your life has been a lie?
Desperation and shame are two dirty words that run through Jason’s veins. He carries the scars from a wayward priest who stole his innocence and left him shattered. Meanwhile for years he’s watched Dean pursuing woman after woman, as his own heart slowly breaks.
When their world blows apart, they learn the powerful bond between them has more fire than either understood. Can two broken souls find the light in their darkness and come together to make a whole, or will sins of the past be forever unforgiven?

Review

This was a mixed bag for me. First, through no fault of the author, this is a really bad time for me to read anything remotely “angsty”. When I asked to review this – more than a year ago – I wasn’t as worried about our world – as I am today. Unfortunately we had some miscommunication and it took over a year for me to get the audio code and now… well, I’m in a different place.

However, the story itself is really good. There’s no denying that. The author does not pull ANY punches and if you have triggers – especially around molestation – please read the reviews that allude to the triggers. I don’t consider these things triggers for me personally but they were VERY disturbing and hard to read.

As for the romance – well- Dean is kind of a dick throughout most of the story and Jason is a pushover. That made it hard for me to root for these guys as a couple. Though I love the whole “discovering your gay side” stories – and that part was usually pretty dang hot! – the way Dean treated Jason before and after made it less … good.

The ending definitely ties things up for these guys and leaves us with a pretty solid HFN if not HEA.

What saved this – for me – was the dual narration. I think, had I been reading it, I’d have bailed. However, the narration was awesome! I really love dual narrators as I think they really help to differentiate the MCs so nicely!

I thought Eric London and Iggy Toma were well suited to their MCs and did an excellent job with the emotion, the timing and helping to immerse the listener in the story. For that reason I’d definitely recommend this, though I had reservations about the story itself.

Steamy Romance: Tight Quarters (Out of Uniform #6) by Annabeth Albert narrated by Greg Boudreaux

Blurb

Petty Officer Bacon, a navy SEAL and ace sharpshooter, has been on the front lines of more than his fair share of dangerous ops. Yet when a minor injury relegates him to the beta team, he’s tasked with what may be his riskiest assignment yet: the silver fox journalist he’s babysitting is the hottest, most charismatic man he’s ever encountered.

Award-winning journalist Spencer Bryant may have been named one of Pride magazine’s most eligible bachelors of the year, but he’s not looking to change his relationship status. He’s a consummate professional who won’t risk his ethics or impeccable reputation by getting involved with a source. Even a sexy-as-hell military man. But while Spencer can resist his physical attraction to Bacon, he has less control over his emotions—especially when the mission goes sideways and the two men are trapped alone.

Getting out of the jungle alive turns out to be easy compared to facing the truth about their feelings for one another back in the real world. And whether or not they can build a future is a different story altogether.

Review

This was a wonderful addition to the series Annabeth Albert has given us – filled with angsty, hot, military men and plenty of complicated drama, emotions, hawt sex and heas.

It literally took me months, however, to get through this and it took the coming out of the audiobook for me to actually make it through. This is in no way a reflection of the “goodness” within the book, only a reflection of my willingness to subject myself to more angst.

Without getting on a soapbox, I have found myself with only the barest, most minimal ability to tolerate angst and discord in my reading these days because I am so seriously mind-fucked by how awful the real world is under our current administration. Every day I am reminded that we are one day away from another world war and I just can’t tolerate any fictionalized angst when the current world is full of so much real angst. None of this is pertinent except to explain why it took me so long to get into this.

There is a fair amount of real angst in this and though the solution our boys agreed to in the end – to solve the big dilemma – seemed obvious – I could see how egos getting involved might have made this seem impossible – until it wasn’t.

In any case, I think fans of the series will really like this – I found it to be as enjoyable or more enjoyable than others in the series once I made myself get into it.

Highly recommended for fans of the series, military drama, may/December, angsty reads, hot reads, opposites attract, OFY.

When your deepest, darkest fantasy shows up, get onboard.

Sam Keller knows he’ll never find the excitement he craves in Middleton, Iowa – not while he’s busting his ass in nursing school and paying rent by slaving away in a pharmacy stockroom. Then Sam meets Mitch Tedsoe, an independent long-haul trucker who makes a delivery to a shop across the alley. Innocent flirting quickly leads to a fling, and when Mitch offers to take him on a road trip west, Sam jumps at the chance for adventure.

Mitch is sexy, funny, and friendly, but once they embark on their journey, something changes. One minute he’s the star of Sam’s every X-rated fantasy, the next he’s almost too much a perfect gentleman. And when they hit the Las Vegas city limit, Sam has a name to pin on Mitch’s malady: Randy. For better or for worse, Sam grapples with the meaning of friendship, letting go, growing up – even the meaning of love – because no matter how far he travels, eventually all roads lead home

Review
One hot book packed full of kinky sex. Quite steamy at times. There is the right mix of sex, angst, humour and heartwarming moments but more importantly this is their story. It’s not just about the sex I got invested in the characters. Sam is a young man who doesn’t know what he wants, he has the vaguest of notions but no real idea. He feels trapped and beholden to his Aunt and Uncle, who are not portrayed in a good way (think of Harry Potter’s Aunt and Uncle). In his own way Mitch is equally lost. He no longer believes in himself and or his desires. He has a turbulent past and doesn’t want to repeat any of it. He takes Sam away across country with him but sends out mixed messages. Sam is desperate to submit, to fill in what’s missing. The sex is hot but Mitch holds back and Sam is determined to know why. Their relationship is one of power exchange with some humiliation and exhibitions, during scenes. The story hots up even more when Randy comes back into Mitch’s life. He is not a likeable character in this book. A lot of his behaviour stems from jealousy. I always sigh with contentment when I finish this book, reading or listening. And to make it even better Sam and Mitch feature in the next book, Double Blind.
To my mind Iggy Toma absolutely captures the essence of Sam and Mitch. Sami’s complaining doesn’t come across as whiny or poor me, just fits with Sam’s character. Mitch has a lovely smoky gravelly voice that fits so well with him and being a trucker. I can’t forget smarmy Randy, wonderful voice Iggy gave him. Narration at it’s best.

Some bad girls need a firm hand to keep them in line.
I’m bad enough to need two.

Two older men who can teach me a lesson when I misbehave.
Two hot bodies to keep me warm in bed at night.
Two best friends who can learn to share a filthy-mouthed little brat like me.

After all… dirty girls need very dirty daddies.

***

Carrie Wells is nothing but trouble.

She’s wild and difficult. Not worth anyone’s time.

Carrie Wells is a beautiful little brat. She’s also a vulnerable young adult on my case list.

She’s half my age and totally off limits. I’m breaking every rule in the book by giving her somewhere to stay when she’s out on the streets with nowhere to go. And I’m breaking every rule of friendship by holing her up in my best friend Jack’s house while he’s away on business.

I thought life was difficult enough when I fell for the girl, but it gets a whole lot harder when Jack comes home early and finds a beautiful stranger causing chaos in his house.

And a whole lot harder still when he falls for her too.

He’s the one guy on this planet I’d share my last supper with. I’d share it gladly.

I’m just not so sure how I feel about sharing Carrie Wells

Review
I feel like I should post a disclaimer first, I can’t remember the last time I read or listened to an m/f book let alone mfm. I purchased this one because Joel Leslie narrated part of it. I found myself getting irritated with Carrie Wells the brat. It was such a poor me, no one understands me, so I’m going to push everyone as far as I can attitude. I got the measure of her character fairly quickly so it felt like it went on too long. Having said that it’s a testament to Jade West’s writing and Stacy Holmes performance that it prompted such a reaction. The first two thirds of the story was building up to the dirty Daddies part. The main focus is Carrie who is in foster care, fighting every one, and her case worker Michael. He desperately wants to help Carrie, if she would let him. Michael’s attitude worries his best friend Jack, who can’t understand why Carrie has gotten under Michael’s skin. Not to give too much away we come to the last third of the book. The point I was checking my headphones worked properly and no one else on the train could hear! Steamy is definitely the word. This was a well crafted part of the story. I admire the stamina of two 40+ year olds with a very horny 18 year old. As a reader of mm I appreciated the way the Jade West portrayed two heterosexual men learning to share Carrie. There was an understandable level of hesitation on Michael’s part being close sexually to Jack whilst Jack was more adventurous.
The story switches POV between Carrie, Michael and Jack with the three narrators each taking their characters. In this format they each voice the other character’s as they are conveying what happens and what was said that them. It was a little of putting at first but I soon settled into it. Stacy Holmes gives a very good impression of a rebellious teenager crying out for love. Smutty McDiamid’s portrays Michael very well. He conveys the turmoil he is in not being attracted to one of his clients but going against everything he believes is right. Joel Leslie is his usual excellent self bringing Jack, the linchpin of the three, into the strong character he is. He’s the one who gets through to Carrie.
As I said earlier, there is a lot of steam towards the end of the book, there is just a lot of angst and teenage drama to go through first.

Turnabout is foreplay.

High-end Market Garden rentboys Tristan and Jared have found their niche. Men are willing to pay good money to watch Tristan tease Jared, and the two of them seduce London’s elite with sex and power games.

Except Tristan is less and less interested in getting money out of the johns these days. He wants his partner in crime, and he wants the seduction to be real. But is Jared just in this for the pay?

When Rolex, the john who started it all, returns to Market Garden, the boys jump on the opportunity to service him – and each other – for a fresh pile of cash. Rolex isn’t the only one itching for a rematch, though. Jared’s been waiting for a chance to get back at Tristan for teasing him so mercilessly the first time.

And for a former stripper, revenge is a dish best served extra hot

Review
The boys are back in this second book and so is their John, now nicknamed Rolex. This time it’s Jared ramping up the steam. Phew what a sultry lap dance! Where as book 1 is from Jared’s POV this book is Tristan’s. I loved the way both stories were written in the POV of the characters that were on the receiving end of the action. Again the writing is excellent, not only for the level of sexuality but the psychological side as well. Perfect for when you’re in the mood for a quick very hot read.

An underground club tale

Submissive Joshua has struggled with his addiction to pain for years—something Dom Nash knew when he took Joshua on. Nash also knew their path wouldn’t be an easy one, but through commitment and determination, he peels back Joshua’s layers one by one, revealing a horrific history of abuse and neglect that spans Joshua’s entire life. Nash wants nothing more than to gain Joshua’s trust and help him find the happiness that’s eluded him so long.
Providing structure and discipline is only part of what Joshua will need on his way to recovery. He’ll need the help of Dr. Hobson and their close friends at the Underground BDSM Club to help hold Joshua together as he faces the trauma of his past. It’ll push him to the edge, but Nash will be there to keep him from falling into the abyss of despair, and if Joshua can come out on the other side, he’ll be a step closer to wholeness, healing, and happiness

Review
I haven’t read book 2 in the series, Limitless, which is how the two main characters meet. I felt there was enough of their story in this book for me to understand everything. I probably will go back and read book 2 I like the relationship between Dom Nash and Sub Joshua and would like to see where it starts from now I know how happy they are. There are a few hot scenes, where Nash takes Joshua out of himself but Nash soon realises that scenes are not the right way to give Joshua what he needs. Joshua has had a past full of abuse and rejection and Nash doesn’t want to add to this. The Edge is about two people facing doubts and learning about themselves to strengthen their relationship. It’s one of the few books that the Dom isn’t portrayed as being all knowing. Nash has fears and doubts about how he can best help Joshua. He arranges for Joshua to get professional help, which I applaud. This is one of the better BDSM stories in terms of relationships I have read. Certainly more realistic. I hope two of the secondary characters, Malcolm and Denny get to tell their story in another book.
