Hansen has been hot for Sam since they first bonded over their secret superpowers—literally hot, since Hansen can produce fire from thin air. But Sam is always covered in girls, so Hansen keeps his feelings deeply buried and settles for being Sam’s best friend.

Then Sam’s electrical powers go haywire in public, and in the fallout a mutual attraction is forced to the surface—but bisexuality is new to Sam, and Hansen is afraid to admit he’s in love. And in the midst of trying to figure out themselves and each other, they have to face—and survive—the unfriendly witness to Sam’s explosion.

Review

This was really good! There is some amazing world building with really cool powers- the meet cute is absolutely wonderful! Our two MCs are at school when clueless Sam meets in the know Hansen but it’s Sam who is the jock and the popular kid – so Hansen having the upper hand is a lovely switch. This follows them throughout their lives and into exploring things sexually when it’s decided that they are more than friends.

There’s some frustrating “misunderstandings” that should go away with just some talking – but since these are two college-age-ish guys – it makes a bit of sense that they aren’t great at communication. (It’s still frustrating tho…)

I wasn’t super comfortable with Sam and the girlfriend and her family and all that transpired there. It kind of made things less authentic and more soap opera-y and I could have done without that.

Thus 4 of 5 stars because I thoroughly enjoyed it but it did have some areas that made it a bit less than perfect.

I love this series and this author (and hockey)! This is a rather long story for a freebie and is wonderful!

It’s got a fair amount of hockey in it but is definitely relationship focused. We’ve got a clueless Jamie and an adorable Swede who quietly loves and protects Jamie until he finally clues in!

There is a bit of smexy times a lot of laughs and a nice glimpse of some of our previously loved and adored MCs.

Highly recommended for fans of the series/author but is absolutely fine as a standalone!

Team: A.L.P.H.A.:Six battle-hardened alphas with one goal—to save any omega in peril

Preston Tierney, the omega son of a prominent senator, has been taken by a secret group with an ax to grind. Party boy Preston was just out looking for a good time until he was grabbed—plucked right from a party in the middle of a crowd. When he wakes up, he finds himself caged like an animal in a remote cabin far from home.

Noah Perkins is a strong alpha who leads his unit with a strong hand—and a great sense of humor. The last thing he expected when he went to free the sassy little thing in the cage was to scent his own fated mate.

Noah and his crazy crew must free Preston from captivity—from his kidnappers, and again from a source much closer to home than they would’ve imagined—while Noah tries to figure out how to tame his bristly omega and truly embrace the team’s motto: Accept, Love, Protect, Honor—Always.

This is the first in a new series, but can definitely be read as a stand-alone novel. You can expect to find naughty, knotty scenes of steamy passion, along with a lot of potty-mouth language and some violence. No jackals were harmed in the writing of this book—unless they kinda deserved it. HEA definitely included, intended for 18+ readers only. Seriously, would you expect anything less from Susi Hawke and Crista Crown?

An MM Mpreg Romance

Review: I really enjoyed reading the book – the story line was interesting, unique even. Party boy omega, Preston, is kidnapped and rescued by Noah, an alpha and his team, also called Team A.L.P.H.A. The team consists of 5 members of closely knit alphas. The insta-love and misunderstanding tropes are well represented, but not long drawn out.
Even though it’s a fated mate, mpreg trope, it’s a unique story. The banter between the characters is fun and the supporting cast well fleshed out. Definitely will be reading the rest of the series.?

I don’t think I’ve listened to Peter B. Brooke before, but I’d likely listen to him if he narrates the rest of the series (hoping for more audio :)) I’d rate the narration a 3.5/5.
He does a really good job distinguishing the characters, but his cadence was a little ‘off’, (to me), on the non-narrative parts. I got used to it, helped along by an interesting story. There were some points where I thought the narration didn’t convey the emotion of the characters – when one MC was surprised, the narration tone didn’t reflect that.
Overall, I really liked the book and the narration was OK.

Time to get Paranormal: Noel (Council Assassins Book 2) by Catherine Lievens

Blurb
Noel has spent the past seventeen years focusing first on his studies, then on his job as a lawyer, but the man he had a one-night stand with never left his mind—or his heart. He doesn’t know what it was about Roark, but he’s never been able to forget him, and he’s stopped trying. Instead, he works with the council to help shifters who can’t afford a lawyer. When he receives threats that have to do with the murder case he accepted, he calls Kameron Rhett from the council, who then calls the council’s best-hidden secret—the assassins.

Roark has been a council assassin since he was freed from the lab he spent years in. It’s the only place he fits in, with the other assassins, the people who share a trait with him—all of them have been genetically modified. Roark hates his ability to manipulate minds, and when he realizes the man he’s supposed to protect is the mate he thought long lost, he tries to get out of it.

But Noel is stubborn and headstrong, and he won’t take no for an answer. Between him and Roark’s bear, Roark doesn’t have a choice, and the more time he spends with Noel, the more he falls for him. Will he be able to save his mate from the man after him? And if he does, will he manage to allow himself the happiness he’s been longing for?

Review
I discovered Catherine Lievens’ Whitedell Pride and Gillham Pack series’ about a year ago and binge read the first 40 books or so!! I love the multitude of shifter and paranormal characters she writes about. Noel is a human lawyer who is getting death threats due to his representation of shifter wrongly accused of murdering a human female. In comes Roark to protect him. Roark sees himself as a monster due to what was done to him by human scientists, in reality he is another tortured soul. The chemistry between Roark and Noel is off the charts. This is their second chance at love. I have to say I didn’t see twist ending. I think this could be read as a stand alone but do yourself a favor and read them all!!

Up in the Alps, a single night can change your life.
Struggling college student and self-taught graphic artist Justin Bennet isn’t the most self-confident guy, but he knows he’s good at two things: snowboarding and sex. Why does Andi, the hot instructor at the Tyrolean ski resort, pretend Justin doesn’t exist?
Justin becomes all but obsessed with the idea of scoring with the young Austrian. Because for all the man’s reserve, he made it quite obvious he likes Justin—at least from the neck down.
When Justin books a private heliboarding trip with Andi as his guide, he thinks he’s one step away from striking gold.
But then the forces of nature take over, trapping the men in a snowstorm, and things get real. What was supposed to be about some freeriding fun and inviting a closeted guy to start exploring his options suddenly becomes about survival—and the hidden truths of the soul.

World of Love: Stories of romance that span every corner of the globe.

Length novella 41140 words 113 pages

Review by Aerielle

This is a short but sweet instalove story. The story is told from Justin’s point of view and most of the story is him trying to get Andi to notice him. Desperate Justin books a private trip with Andi the day before he has to leave Austria. An accident and storm causes the men to have to stay the night up on the glacier and there they declare their feelings for each other. I liked the basis of this story. Justin is very arrogant at the beginning of the story but towards the end realizes how deep his feelings for Andi really are and he’s prepared to give up his life in the States to be with him.

Review by Truus
This was just one delicious read. From annoying to sweet sweet tenderness.

Justin and his two best friends are on holiday at a ski resort. Snow boarding is something he is good at.
Justin is over his head when he sees the stunning Andi, son of the owner, instructor and member of the band who also plays in the resort.
Justin will have Andi in his bed in to time… that’s the plan… Andi does everything in his power to avoid Justin… not to be with him alone… and he succeeds.
This all brings Justin on the edge of insanity… he doesn’t understand it.
Then they are both on a risky sloop with bad weather …

Such a nice and funny read. Justin so confused by the cold shoulder from his obsession.
The circumstances they were in is excellent done. The environments ditto. I found it a really captivating read. Justin is even a bit annoying and embarrassing with his constant attempts to conquer Andi. In the cabin we meet a totally different Andi, and I loved it. Nice so see Justin change from a horny guy with only one purpose into a responsible caring sweetheart.
Nice fast paced read with a great end. It’s a short read and goshh I would love to see them in a more developed relationship. I think Andi could be an excellent dominant and Justin deeply in love kissing the ground Andi stands on.

Hector thought he’d escaped his past and had nothing to fear by posing for a charity calendar, but he was wrong.

Hector Torres is a self-made man. He came from the wrong side of the tracks and had a difficult childhood. Violence and crime flourished around him, but one particular event sent him running, and he’s been looking back over his shoulder for over a decade.

He thought he’d changed enough to take a chance and do something good, especially in light of his closest friend’s daughter being diagnosed with cancer.

But Hector is wrong, and the man suddenly appears in his life might be his saviour—or his executor.

Review
I had a bit of a rollercoaster experience. Watching this story in a fast pace, before I could let it sink in there was already something else to watch.
There were passages being kind and friendly… also hot and steamy… and even a bit stress.

Hector at the moment Mr. August calendar man, vanished more than a decade ago, because of his dads dirty business. Mat had always eyes for Hector and now he found him again.
What I always love is some shifters. Mat was a shifter, to protect Hector, only there is not much shifting in this story. Hector want to find out who his enemy is and with the help from Mat he has to face his past.

The story has a lot of everything and all not thoroughly worked out.
If you are not picky about developing and you love some fast and hot pages this is for you.

If you want to score, you have to take the shot.

Chris Kimball is good at keeping things to himself, but when he breaks his leg during a hockey game, he quickly realizes his biggest secret might be impossible to keep. It was hard enough being in love with his best friend and teammate, Tim Robineau, but when Tim takes care of him as he recovers, Chris’s feelings only grow stronger.

Tim is aware that some people think he’s dumb, but they’re wrong. He’s just an easy-going guy who enjoys spending time with his team and friends—especially Chris. Tim has dated a lot of women who couldn’t understand that, and figures he’s cursed when it comes to love—but he’s not. He just doesn’t know it.

Yet.

***This story previously appeared in the Changing on the Fly Anthology***

Review

Tim and Chris are best friends and professional hockey player teammates. Tim 100% identifies as straight and Chris has been pining for Tim for a long time.

If you’re a fan of the author, Mike and Alexi are on their team and have suspected that Chris and Tim are perfect for each other, so they help the relationship along.

Chris gets injured on the ice and Tim realizes that he has more than “friend” feelings for his bestie.

**

This was a really fun and super sexy read. I love Mike and Alexi so it was great seeing them again. Since it’s short, Tim’s movement from “straight to gay” was a bit fast, but… it worked. (It’s not necessary to have read the other books in the series – that just adds “flavor”!)

Highly enjoyable!

Jack
Leaving was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. He would have killed me if I stayed, though. I couldn’t have done it without Warwick’s help. Not only did he give me the out I needed, but also a safe place to live. With my ex looming around every corner, looking for the chance to get his hands on me, I received the best gift ever—a month in England—and I took it!

Warwick
England was supposed to help Jack get away from his ex and find himself again. I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with him there. Especially when I knew he might stay… indefinitely. With my busy schedule as an ER doctor, an ocean between us, and the trust issues his abusive ex inflicted, the chance of a successful long-distance relationship is close to zero. Loving Jack may be the one thing I can’t fix.

Review:

Wow! For a short story, it packed quite a bit in.
Jack has been taken to the ER by his boyfriend, (read abuser), after sustaining injuries from a “fall”. It is not hard to guess what really happened as Warwick, the ER doctor, correctly assesses.
Warwick is a UK transplant working as an ER doctor in Baltimore. When meets Jack, he is immediately drawn to him, first as a healer and then something more. He tries to help Jack get away from the abusive situation, but as is so often the case, the victim is too afraid to leave. Despite that, he gives Jack a way to contact him if he should ever need help. Sadly, Jack does need the help and he finds the courage to get away to safety, to Warwick.
The subject of domestic abuse is not light, but it was portrayed in such a way that it didn’t make the story depressing. Instead, it focused more on how Jack dealt with the aftermath of abuse – adjusting to not having to cower, not having to ask permission to do things, or having to ask what to watch on the box or what to eat.
The attraction between the 2 men developed naturally. Some may wonder why Jack would be attracted to anyone after just coming out of an abusive relationship, but that relationship had soured several months ago, so it made sense.
Diandra, Warwick’s and Jack’s family round out the characters and made a good support group for Jack.
I really liked the story – some parts were a little rushed, (the MCs overall relationship and the end), but it’s really a bright (vs dour) read given the subject matter.

Time to Get Paranormal: Midnight In Berlin by JL Merrow

One bad decision can change your life forever.
It’s midnight in Berlin, and drifter Leon is hitchhiking home in the rain, covered in feathers after a wild festival in the city park. He can’t believe his luck when he’s picked up by a hot guy in a Porsche. That is, until he learns his driver is a creature from his worst nightmares—and plans to turn him into one too. He runs, but he can’t escape the werewolf’s bite.
Christoph made one mistake, but he’s paying for it plenty. He took Leon for a rogue werewolf on his way home from a hunt, and by the time he realizes the truth, it’s too late to do anything but make Leon a monster to save his life. That doesn’t save Christoph from the pack leader’s harsh punishment.
As Leon struggles to cope with his horrifying new reality—and his mixed feelings for the man who bit him—he’s desperate to discover not only what’s happened to Christoph, but the secrets their pack leader is hiding from them all.
Secrets the pack will kill to protect.

Review

Leon has been enjoying his time in Berlin but the latest guy that he had his eye on turns out to play for the other team. So, he decides to try his luck and hitch a ride home. Leon thinks that he has hit the jackpot when Christoph stops and gives him a ride, but things are not as they seem. Christopher is more than a man and thinks that Leon is the same. When he realizes his mistake, he tries to right it the only way he can think of. Hoping it will save Leon’s life and that somehow Leon will forgive him.

Leon and Christoph’s story is an interesting tale. The author intertwines romance and angst together as the men figure out just where their lives will go from here. The two make a nice couple and work well together. Each man has his own demons to work through but together they fight a common enemy. I did not feel a lot of depth with the characters and has a hard time immersing myself in their story. The story has some twists to it that kept me interested but the ending fell flat for me. I did enjoy the quiet times between Leon and Christoph as they continued on their journey. As each one learns about the other a bond begins to form between the men. They soon learn that life is what you make of it even if you have to fight for it.

Raphael had no idea what he was getting into when he went to Castle Archangel to study the People’s oral history. He didn’t expect his wings to suddenly change from brown to the purest white—the mark of an Omega, the destined mate of the Alpha. There has never been a male Omega before, not in all the millennia angels have flown the skies of Earth. However, when Raphael meets ebony-winged Gabriel, the true leader of the People, he knows he wants this man more than anything. Change is not always bad.

When Gabriel’s wings suddenly turn to startling ebony, he must deal with the knowledge that he is an Alpha, a leader of the angels. When he discovers that his destined mate is a man, he must accept that being Alpha of the People means accepting more than he’d expected. When their current leader challenges him, accusing Gabriel of committing one of the People’s most dishonorable crimes, Gabriel must fight: for his honor, for his mate, and for the survival of the angels.

Be Warned: m/m sex

Review

As you can see, I’ve been on an Erin kick! I’m not typically a fan of angel stories but I liked this one quite a bit.

I LOVED the change in form our MCs undergo and the GFY aspect of this was really well done. The flying and having sex – super hot!

The story was a bit too short for me to feel invested in, but for a short story it did well.

I skimmed the second book – it’s M/F and it didn’t work for me at all.

I’m interested in book 3 so I might pick that up.

I’ll definitely be skipping book 4 as it is m/m/f which I generally don’t like much at all and especially given how much I disliked book 2 I’ll be giving that a hard NO.

Recommended for angel fans.
