Tommy Morgan’s life was turned upside down at the hands of his Alpha. Now, another one is claiming to be his mate. He’s not ready to jump into a relationship with anyone, still suffering from nightmares due to the abuse he experienced. Instead, Tommy moves in with his brother, Declan, hoping for the space he needs to heal.
Pennaeth Alpha Benjamin Taylor has his hands full dealing with all the packs across Australia. When he finds his young mate battered and bloody, he knows Tommy is going to need time to recover and come to terms with everything. Ben is more than willing to give his mate anything he needs. Even if that means them living apart for now.
When passion finally ignites with unexpected consequences, Ben knows he’ll do anything, fight anyone, to keep his mate safe.
In book one we were left with an injured Tommy and a newly found mating pair between him and Ben. Most of the beginning of the book is these two drawing closer and then culminating in their mating.
Ben is the perfect mate, he’s sweet and patient and possessive and loving. There’s almost no angst in this story – until the end when someone targets Ben for deeds done in his past.
As you know, these guys get pregnant and Tommy isn’t spared. It’s both sweet and tender as Ben takes care of his pregnant mate.
The narrator, Nick Flint is very Australian and does a great job of brining this story to life. He manages the emotion well and though he sometimes falls a bit flat in the non-dialog portions, for the most part he’s very good at exhibiting the emotion in the dialog. He’s easy to listen to and though he doesn’t do much to differentiate between the different characters, I was never confused.
If you’re a fan of Mpreg, shifters, Australian stories, and low-angst, high sweetness stories – this is for you!
4.5 of 5 stars for both the story and the narration.
