Finding His Home by Thianna Durston Tour – Prizes!

Sebastien Cather moves to Falcon Pointe with a dream to live life his way. Offered a room at 959 Brenton Street, he discovers how liberating it can feel to live among accepting people, especially in a household where they practice loving physical discipline. And he quickly gains a boyfriend in Avery, a fellow student. Unfortunately Avery isn’t his first choice. His roommate David is fascinating and good-looking, and Bastien would do anything to have him—but he doesn’t think the attraction is returned.

Tensions rise as his roommates’ wedding is threatened and his present and past lives clash. Outed by the national media, Bastien knows he will never be able to return home again. Just as he’s sure he can’t handle any more stress, David shows his interest. Bastien slowly makes his way forward, trying to find firm footing in the minefield that is his life. But when his landlord makes an announcement about the future of the house, it may change all of his dreams.

“Can I ask you something?”
“I know you say you’re straight. Ever wondered if you weren’t?” The moment the words were out of his mouth, he wished he could bite them back. “No. That came out wrong. What I meant was—” David lifted a hand to forestall whatever he was going to say. Which was a good thing because Bastien had no idea what was about to pour out of his mouth.
“I don’t think anyone is completely het or homosexual. Kinsey made a scale to place someone as to their sexual preference. Of course that was before more genders became acceptable. The chart’s divided into seven possibilities—everything from completely straight to completely gay. It’s my personal belief that we all slide along the scale. At different times in our lives, we may move one or two spots to the left or right. Some have been known to slide from one side to the other.” He shrugged. “In college I was a lot more experimental than I am today. I’ve been with men as well as women. For me it has more to do with the person than the sex they are.”
“What do you mean?”
“Some call it pansexual. But I don’t use the term because people tend to think of it as bisexual. And it’s not.” He paused a moment to take a drink of water. “For me… my sex drive is tied more to the person than their sex. Sure. I notice if the person is male or female or queer, but it’s the person inside who jogs my interest. Intelligence turns me on. I’ll admit I’ve dated women exclusively since I graduated law school, and I was engaged to a wonderful woman for several years. But that had more to do with the fact I did not want my sexuality to affect any job offers I might get. Being intersex and finding a partner who I find exciting both mentally and physically is a challenge. Because at some point, I have to explain that my body is a bit different.”
“You’ve been rejected.” It was as clear as day.
“Yep. Women who were horrified I had a vagina and men who were disgusted at the same thing.” David shook his head and grinned ruefully. “Strange, huh? That the side that bothers both sexes is the female part?”
“That seems kind of stupid,” Bastien said. “I mean, if you care for someone, why should that extra be a problem?” Of course until a couple nights before, he had never found himself attracted to anything having to do with the female body. Until he imagined it right next to a dick.

Dreamspinner Presents

Finlay McIntyre (aka Raven) is a successful adult film star with a penchant for kilts, until an accident cuts short his stardom and leaves him with zero sexual desire, lowered self-esteem, and no job. He knew his porn career wouldn’t last forever, but he wasn’t prepared for retirement at twenty-eight. While trying to figure out the rest of his life, Raven agrees to attend a high school reunion. That’s when a malfunctioning AC unit in his hotel room changes everything.

Caleb Sanderson, an entrepreneur with his own HVAC business, has no idea what to expect when he steps into Raven’s hotel room to fix his AC unit. They’re attracted to each other, but Caleb, closeted, can’t afford a gay relationship, not with his mom pressuring him to produce grandchildren. If he wants to keep Raven—who no closet could hold—he’ll need to tell his family the truth. But Raven has a few secrets of his own. He refuses to reveal his porn past to Caleb, a past that might be the final obstacle to Caleb and Raven having any kind of relationship.

Raven is an ex-porn star who never regretted his profession. He gets injured in a way that leaves horrible scarring and the result is an end to his career and a huge dent in his self-esteem. He takes jobs as an escort – minus the sex – to make ends meet and that’s where he meets Caleb.

Caleb is in the closet, an HVAC expert and hot. He fixes Raven’s AC one night and the two strike up a slow burn attraction/relationship.

The chemistry between them is heated, but Caleb reluctance to come out and Raven’s personal fears keep them apart for a bit.

Eventually they give in to temptation and they find that there’s more to their attraction than lust and they begin to build a relationship. But… they’re both hiding things and when those things come out it may be the end of their budding relationship.

There were parts of this that I just loved: the slow burn, the chemistry between the two, the very real feel to Raven’s emotions and his own ability to recognize his own vanity/needs as far as the spotlight goes, Caleb’s desire to be a “good son” and the Romance Convention connection.

Things that I didn’t like as much: I didn’t quite understand Caleb’s need to be in the closet in the first place, nor did I understand exactly why Raven hid his career for so long, and I thought the ending was abrupt – both in the climactic fight and subsequent forgiveness.

All in all, it was a captivating read with characters I really enjoyed, steamy sex, interesting secondary characters and a sweet love story.

Reaching across the empty bed next to me, I rode out the last waves of my dream alone. I could still feel his phantom kiss on my lips and the sensation of a hand stroking along my thigh.
The rest of it was just a blur of emotions and sticky residue on my sheets—though I could guess at it without much effort. FatBoy Newman had been a specter haunting me at work so it was no great leap to assume he’d shouldered his way into my dreams as well.
In fact, he was at the root of my problem: I’d been having a hell of a dry spell.
Four weeks of near misses had done nothing but stoke my bad mood and turn my balls a lovely shade of indigo that matched my jeans…
Four weeks of dashed hopes…
Four weeks since the most romantic kiss of my life…
Four weeks of nothing.
Fuck the South and its mythology of the Southern Gentleman—if FatBoy Newman didn’t stop treating me like a delicate flower and throw me up against a wall soon, I was going to explode.
It was six days until St. Patrick’s Day, and FatBoy had until then to make his move, or I was moving on.

How to Walk Like a Man (Howl at the Moon Book 2) Audiobook by Eli Easton Narrated by Matthew Shaw

walk like a man audioBlurb

Deputy Roman Charsguard survived Afghanistan where he lost his best friend—his K-9 handler James. Roman was a military dog until two years ago when he developed the ability to shift into a human. It’s not easy to learn how to be a man. He found a place to live in Mad Creek, a haven for the secret world of dog shifters. Finding a reason to live has been harder. That is, until a certain human walks into the Mad Creek Sheriff’s office and starts making trouble.

Matt Barclay has the worst luck. First he was shot in a SWAT drug raid, then he was sent as DEA investigator to Mad Creek, a little town in the California mountains. Matt’s job is to keep a lookout for illegal drug farms, but nobody in the town wants him there. And then there’s Roman, Matt’s erstwhile baby-sitter. He’s the hottest guy Matt’s ever seen, even if he is a bit peculiar. If the town doesn’t kill him, sexual frustration just might.

The town is counting on Roman to prevent Matt from learning about dog shifters, Matt’s counting on Roman to be his work partner and tell him the truth, and Roman’s trying to navigate love, sex, and a whole lot of messy human emotions. Who knew it was so complicated to walk like a man?

How to Walk Like a Man - Eli Easton

(Book reviewed previously on this site)

Such an amazing sequel!

We met Roman (and fell head over heels in love with him!) in book one. He’s a newly quickened German Shepherd who lost his master, James, in the war in Afghanistan.

He’s adapting, slowly, to life on two legs with the help of Lance and Tim and of course, Lily.

Near the end of book one, Roman saves a DEA agent (who reminds him of James) from drug dealers. That DEA agent is Matt Barclay. Matt got injured in that drug raid, and is still recovering and though he’s grateful to the man who risked his life for him that day, but perplexed by his actions, as well.

When he meets Roman again at a joint DEA/Mad Creek task force meeting, he realizes that Roman is a unique guy. He’s at once innocent and sweet, but with a will of steel and a heart as big as the sky.

Lance tasks Roman with keeping Matt occupied and out of town so as not to give away the secrets of the quickened. Roman diligently drags Matt all over the mountains both in search of the drug dealers who might be praying on the town and because he’s fascinated with him.

It doesn’t take long before Roman’s affections turn from friend to more and he struggles with understanding these new emotions and desires. Luckily *smirk, he has Lance to go to when he’s got questions.

When Roman gets shot and Matt is faced with some questionable actions from both Roman and the rest of the town, will Roman have to give up his new love? Or will Matt be able to accept Roman for who he really is?

OMG this was even better than book one and I absolutely LOVED book one. I’ve already rhapsodized on how amazing I think the “quickened” concept is in my review of How to Howl at the Moon here:

Roman grabbed me by the heartstrings in book one and he continues to tug at them throughout this entire story.

Gawd. When Roman “tells” the story of James and his training days and the day he turned into a man I was seriously sobbing. It’s such a touching story and so obviously in tune with that relationship between man and dog. There’s no question that the love Roman had for James was deep and abiding and Roman’s pain and loss is so deep and heartbreaking.

The parts where Roman is discovering his sexuality had me howling with laughter. Lance and Tim’s “help” is hysterical.

“I think I need a doctor.”
“What’s the matter?”
“My… my penis is all swollen up and hard. Could it be a spider bite or… or…” Roman swallowed, pressing down the panic. “I don’t know. Cancer?” He knew cancer killed a lot of humans and involved lumps and tumors.
There was silence from the other end of the line. A long silence.
“Yeah, uh, Roman….” Lance sounded strained. “You’ve never had this happen before? I mean, since you’ve been human?”
“Ah.” Lance covered up the phone with his hand and said something. Roman didn’t understand his words, but he thought he heard Tim giggling on the other end. Lance came back. “Sorry about that.”
Roman felt a tinge of annoyance creep in among the fear. “Do I need a doctor, sir?”

This had me in tears, it was so funny!

The slowly developing relationship between Matt and Roman is so sweet, my only regret is that we didn’t get to see them as a couple for more than a few pages. I loved how easy going Matt was and how tender and gentle he was when he figured out Roman was a virgin.

The rest of the townspeople continue to entertain me endlessly with their “dogisms” and the drinking of broth instead of coffee was another inspired detail.

Watching Lance nearly screw up everything with his overprotectiveness also made me laugh out loud. In the movie theatre:

Then, Beaufort compounded the weirdness. Because, you know, this wasn’t already strange enough. He stood up, faced the people sitting behind them, and loudly said. “We’re just going to quietly enjoy the films.Quietly. Without comments, talking, or noises of any kind.” Then he sat back down.

So funny! I must have underlined a dozen passages that cracked me up.

I can’t express just how entertaining this book is. The dogisms are hysterical, Roman is an absolute sweetheart and the love story is so very sweet.

I can’t recommend this and the entire series enough.

Matthew Shaw did the first book in the series and he did another amazing job. He does well with some of the “accents” and he really does a great job of giving Roman this sort of halting, reserved but deep tone. I loved the emotions in this audiobook and I know this will be one of the ones I listen to over and over!

And the angel said unto them, be not afraid…
Ilya was not afraid. Enraptured, yes. Entranced. But not afraid. He had been ready for death when he closed his eyes in the wolf’s embrace. Instead, he was whole, and awake, and in the arms of a man more handsome than any angel. Volyk’s long thick hair was the brown and gray of the wolf’s pelt, his cheekbones angular, his lips full. And his eyes were the same beautiful fiery amber as the wolf’s.
Maybe he had only dreamed the wolf. Or maybe he was still dreaming. Surely he had done nothing in his life to earn the gift this moment would be if it were real.

Rory Ni Coileain majored in creative writing, back when Respectable Colleges didn’t offer such a major. She had to design it herself, at a university which boasted one professor willing to teach creative writing: a British surrealist who went nuts over students writing dancing bananas in the snow, but did not take well to high fantasy. Graduating Phi Beta Kappa at the age of nineteen, she sent off her first short story to an anthology that was being assembled by an author she idolized, and received one of those rejection letters that puts therapists’ kids through college. This story started as a short in the 2014 Christmas package Dreamspinner does each year as “Ilya and the Wolf”.

Here is my review for that short story:

In this tremendously sweet shifter story, a gay man of Russian Royalty (Ilya) is tricked by homophobes into going out in the snow to gather wood. They end up attacking him and nearly killing him.

Ilya is saved by a “wolf” with a fascinating story to share and a life of mated perfection to save him forever from those that would call him an abomination.

The writing is beautiful and fluid and has a fairytale like quality to it.

I hope/wish there are more stories from this “world” as it was beautifully created and wonderful to read.

This is a much longer version with some added back-story and a bit more after the two MCs have connected.

On the one hand, I loved the parts that were after the pair had connected – we got to see a bit more about their world and their relationship, and that was lovely.

On the other hand, I did not like seeing the parts before they were together – it’s hard to read and awful – but it does give a better understanding of where they are now.

I’m on the fence – part of me really liked the simplicity of the short story – it flowed so well and left me with this lovely resonance of hope and mysticism. This makes things more clear and is more detailed, and in a way that detracts from some of that simple beauty.

But… that being said… it is still a wonderful story and whether or not you’ve read the short story I think this is worth reading. It’s beautifully done and really strives to be in the head of the wolves rather than humans as wolves.

I enjoyed it and recommend it.

When Adam Fell (Foothills Pride #4) by Pat Henshaw

release day review

Dreamspinner Presents

When his lover Jason’s drug addiction spiraled out of control, TV celebrity chef and cookbook author Adam de Leon walked away from him. Adam also abandoned his renowned restaurant in San Francisco to start a small bistro in the Sierra Foothills.

Five years later Adam is battling the conservative leaders of Stone Acres, California, to open a new restaurant in historic Old Town when Jason turns up on his doorstep—a recovered Jason, now going by the name David and claiming he’s overcome his addictions. What’s more, he begs Adam to take him back and says he’s ready for their happily ever after.

Adam has enough on his plate with problems plaguing the opening of his restaurant. And now he’s having a hard time deciding which to follow—his head or his heart.

Adam is a famous chef who has given up life in the big city to move the quiet hills and run a small bistro. Though he loves what he’s doing, there comes a time where he has to decide if that’s all he’ll be or if he wants to grab some more limelight.

Jason aka David is his ex. Jason was a druggie who pulled Adam into his drama and when Adam walked away, he wasn’t sure if Jason would even make it out alive from the depths of his addictions. When Jason shows up in town – 5 years later – asking to be called David because he’s a new man, Adam is rightfully skeptical. He knows that once an addict, always an addict and he barely made it out the first time with his life intact.

This is another sweet story about two guys finding each other later in life. There is very little drama in the here and now – most of the drama has occurred off page and in the past.

Once Adam believes in the new “David” the story moves on to fighting the homophobes in town who don’t want his restaurant to succeed.

If you’ve followed the series you’ll enjoy this latest installment and the glimpses we get of the previous MCs.

Lucky in Loveland by K-lee Klein

lucky in lovelandBlurb

Book 1 of the Welcome to Loveland series

Loveland, Colorado is a special place all year around, a community of creativity and art, with scenic views and majestic mountains. But the town really shines once a year, on Valentine’s Day.

Lucky Roberts has lived in Loveland his whole life. He has good friends, strong family support, and is all about keeping his community fun and alive. The only thing Lucky has been “unlucky” with is love. But rather than avoiding February fourteenth in his hometown, he throws himself into helping others deliver their messages of love.

Enter Jack Canon. Jack moved to Loveland for a fresh start, in both his personal and professional lives. After a tough year, he’s finally hoping to just blend in, maybe carve a little niche for himself that his parents would have been proud of. What he didn’t expect was a pseudo-lumberjack with a killer body and shy smile to turn his world upside down – and he sure didn’t expect to like it so much.

When Lucky meets Jack, he feels like a thirteen year-old with his first crush. He’s clumsy, stammering, and the first greeting out of his mouth is a less than articulate, “Wow!” Words like adorable and manbun suddenly become part of his vocabulary as he discovers a deep, hidden need to romance the hell out of Jack.

And what better way to do that than during the most romantic season in the City of Love?

This is a very sweet, almost zero-angst love story about two guys who find love in Loveland!

Jack is a new kindergarten teacher and painter in town and he meets Lucky when Lucky comes to the school to do a demo on hockey.  Jack is adorable with a man bun and paint under his fingers.  Lucky is big and bulky but warm as a teddy bear.

Lucky is part of the “founding fathers” of town, practically an institution himself, and so far he’s been very “unlucky” in love.

The two begin dating and the only stipulation is that there’s no sex – Lucky wants a relationship not just a hot night between the sheets.

As their relationship strengthens so does Jack’s desire to stick around as he learns more about this quirky guy and town he’s fallen for.

Highly recommended for lovers of easy, sweet, and funny romances – and a chance to learn about Loveland, CO!

Getting Him Back by KA Mitchell

getting backBlurb

Ethan may have followed his high school sweetheart to college only to get dumped his first day there, but he’s not going to let that stop him from exploring all his new life has to offer. Sex-only hookups, his photography, new friends and a campus-wide game of zombies vs humans all help keep his mind off his broken heart and move him toward building a new, better life without his ex.
And then there’s Wyatt. Mysterious, grouchy…hot. And possibly not gay. But Ethan’s not going to let that stand in the way of figuring out what makes Wyatt tick. New college goal? Get Wyatt into bed and into Ethan’s life.
Step one: arrange a “tutoring” date. Step two: “accidentally” bump into Wyatt as often as possible. Step three: explore the sexy body under that ever-present hoodie. And when their friendship deepens into something neither of them expect, convince Wyatt he’s not just a pity fling or a one-time hookup, but that Ethan is in it for the long haul.

Ethan made the tragic mistake of following his high school boyfriend to college only to be dumped on the first day of class. With no real explanation, he’s just suddenly single and stuck on a campus he hates.

Weirdly, his ex’s roommate is intriguing and then alluring and then attracting him like no other. Though Wyatt has no previous gay experience he’s willing to admit (to himself) he’s interested in Ethan and together they begin a sort-of friends with benefits/exploration relationship.

But life is never that simple and soon feelings are involved… the question is who will get dumped this time… or will anyone?

LA Witt is the master of the smoldering sex scenes. Though the sex in this is age appropriate, it’s hot, hot, hot! Think hot videos from this important source and you will understand what I mean!

Ethan is a self-acknowledged self-centered asshole at times, but really, he’s a nice guy who is a bit clueless and bumbling sometimes. I think he is portrayed well – he’s an 18 year old guy who thinks the world revolves around him – so of course he’s willing to bounce here and there…

Wyatt has a past that makes him believe he’s no good for anyone. He keeps Ethan at a distance to protect him – this makes him one of those super, sweet, very loveable characters that matches well with Ethan’s brash “selfishness”.

I will warn you this is a HFN – though very solid- with more books about this couple in the future – so don’t expect a tidy package of true love by the end.

Highly recommended and I can’t wait for their next installment.

The Spencer Cohen Series (Book one) by NR Walker

Spencer Cohen is the guy who gets answers to relationship questions. Playing the role of the new lover, his job is to make his client’s ex realise one of two things: he doesn’t want to break up or he really does. Either way, his client gets answers.

The ex would either apologize and beg, or turn and walk. But in the end, Spencer’s client won. If he wanted his ex back and got him, it was great. If the guy walked away, then as hard it was for the client, he knew it was over. Regardless of the outcome, Spencer’s work was done.

Andrew Landon’s ex left him without so much as an explanation. But his sister can’t stand to see him miserable, so, much to Andrew’s dismay, they hire Spencer to be Andrew’s new boyfriend to get the ex back.

For Spencer, it is never personal. Merely a business transaction. No emotions, no strings, no complications.

Yeah right.

Even a blind man could see how this would end.

Andrew got dumped – abruptly – by his ex, Eli. His sister just wants Andrew to be happy, so she arranges for Spencer to act as his boyfriend and stir up the ol’ green-eyed monster in Eli to push him back into Andrew’s arms.

If it works, it was meant to be – if it doesn’t, at least Andrew can have some closure.

Spencer moved to America from Australia after some family issues force his hand. He inadvertently helps a friend re-gain her boyfriend and a career is born! (He also does other things – it’s not that lucrative!)

When Andrew and Spencer meet there is instant attraction – they’re like two pieces of a puzzle who click together perfectly. But… Andrew wants Eli right?

Be forewarned – this is pretty classic NR Walker series protocol – so we get a slow, slow burn toward a finale of a … kiss. Granted the sexual tension is off the charts and the looks are seriously smoldering… but no sex.

But – YOU WON’T MISS IT! She is such an amazing writer that this slow burn feels right and the pages fly by.

Of course I can’t wait for the next installment – and you might want to wait for all three are published if that’s your thing – but… this is a wonderful story and well worth the wait.

Both MCs are so complex and fun. Neither is particularly needy or whiny and yet both have this amazing streak of vulnerability in them.

I am thoroughly captivated by this series and I cannot wait for the next book!

Because music is a theme in this book – NR Walker made a spotify list:…/…/playlist/7yb2ssqV7OziVGYiDqawEE
I highly recommend having it available while you are reading.
