Blurb

He can hold lightning in his hand, but will love slip through his fingers?

Jude Sullivan has one more chance to prove he isn’t a danger to the paranormal community. If he fails, he’ll be stripped of his magic, a painful process to make a witch human.

As a test, the Coven sends him to Mercy South, Colorado, to stop a creature that’s been mutilating cows and scaring the locals. Jude hates cows and small towns. The Coven should’ve sent a nature witch.

Rob Mackenzie is the local mechanic and bear shifter. If the locals knew his secret, they’d run him out of town. He wants someone to really know him and not be afraid. With several chewed-up cows and some other weird happenings, he’s wondering if he’s no longer the strangest creature in Mercy.

After meeting Mack, Jude thinks he’s found the cause of the trouble. But the trouble is only just getting started when Mack realizes he’s Jude’s fated mate. As the cow-mutilating creature starts hunting in town, Mack and Jude will have to quit fighting their attraction and each other, to stop the creature from killing again.

For readers who love fated mates, bear shifters and small town gay romance.

mm paranormal romance

Review

This is a re release, but I hadn’t read the series the first time ;). I’m psyched to go back and read the entire series now 

This was fun, definitely great world building and interesting “mates falling in love” and all together entertaining. I loved the magic and the unique powers.

Alpha Night (Psy-Changeling Trinity #4) by Nalini Singh

Blurb

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh returns to her breathtaking Psy-Changeling Trinity series with a mating that shouldn’t exist…

Alpha wolf Selenka Durev’s devotion to her pack is equaled only by her anger at anyone who would harm those under her care. That currently includes the empaths who’ve flowed into her city for a symposium that is a security nightmare, a powder keg just waiting for a match.

Ethan Night is an Arrow who isn’t an Arrow. Numb and disengaged from the world, he’s loyal only to himself. Assigned as part of the security force at a world-first symposium, he carries a dark agenda tied to the power-hungry and murderous Consortium. Then violence erupts and Ethan finds himself crashing into the heart and soul of an alpha wolf.

Mating at first sight is a myth, a fairytale. Yet Selenka’s wolf is resolute: Ethan Night, broken Arrow and a man capable of obsessive devotion, is the mate it has chosen. Even if the mating bond is full of static and not quite as it should be. Because Selenka’s new mate has a terrible secret, his mind surging with a power that is a creature of madness and death…

Review

Man, I love this series. It’s not often that I read M/F anymore. I just can’t stand the way the vast majority of women are portrayed and despite even a conscious attempt to avoid toxic masculinity (or maybe passive femininity?) it rarely works out.

In this case we have two amazingly strong alpha types who somehow both manage to project strength without damaging the other’s ego. It was awesome.

I even got the audiobook because I love the Russian accents and it was awesome too!

I’m not sure if I would go back and re read the entire series would I have such wonderful things to say about all the female characters, but my recollection is at least strength and not one of them was a push over ninny.

The love scenes are sweet and sexy – though I am glad to say they aren’t the main portion of the story.

What captivates me is all the powers and the interconnectedness and then the danger. All of the characters are so well developed and the secondary (primary?) plot is intriguing – which I can’t always say. (I could do without the “look into the villain’s mind” Nalini likes to do – I generally skip that as I don’t find it helps and is rather distracting.)

If you’ve a mind for M/F and paranormal this is a series I highly recommend.

Hardwood (Four Bears Construction #3) by K.M. Neuhold

Good Reads

I’ve spent forty-four years of my life telling the world I’m a carpet man. Is it too late to admit to myself and everyone else that deep down I’m really all about the Hardwood?

It took me over thirty-five years to admit to myself that I’m gay, another seven to find the courage to say it out loud to anyone else, and exactly thirty seconds to develop a massive crush on my daughter’s music teacher. It’s really not my fault, have you even seen those cute bowties he wears?

After everything it’s taken to get here, am I going to work up the nerve to come out to my ex-wife and my best friends? Am I ready to shake up my comfortable, simple life and take a chance on Watson? Or am I going to throw a wrench in my own chance for happily ever after?

Review

Another great addition to this wonderful, funny series! The token straight guy in our lovable band of friends turns out to not be so straight, after all. Getting to know Everett better was great and I loved Watson for him. Watson is fun and flirty, secure in who he is, and has an incredibly big heart. I loved that he gets all the mushy devotion he’s dreamed of, even if there are some hurdles to overcome first. I really like the realism that sneaks in this otherwise lighthearted, romantic story with Everett’s struggle to come out and the sorrow he feels over the years he’s spent trying to be someone he’s not. It never gets too dramatic or dark, but it’s there and adds a touch of genuine emotion that resonated with me and made all the happy, sweet moments in the story that much more intense and appreciated. I also oved the heartwarming way in which Ev’s relationship with his ex is portrayed, not the stereotypical witch of an ex-wife, and how important his daughter Livi is throughout the story. And now… over to Ollie so he can finally, finally have his HEA too.

The Night Wolf by Parker Williams

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/the-night-wolf-by-parker-williams-11650-b

Blurb:
The night wolf is a legend told to scare children into obeying their parents. It is said that to control a night wolf is to harness limitless power….

Gareth Blackthorn has been Alpha of the prosperous Lydon pack for nearly two decades. Breaking with tradition, Gareth doesn’t take over other packs by challenge. Instead, he lets wolves come to him and petition for admittance. He’s had his pick of the best, the brightest, and the most talented.

Until now.

A power-hungry Alpha desires Omega Sean Adler’s talent… and his submission, whether given freely or not. He’s been on the run since he was fifteen, surviving any way he could, until one night, he knows he’ll finally succumb to the injuries from his latest attack—and he’s ready to go. That’s when Gareth finds him, and Gareth’s wolf insists on claiming Sean as his mate. But there’s something mysterious about Sean, something tied to the mark on his shoulder….

Now Gareth must decide. Will he keep Sean despite the dangers that will arise, or will he throw the young man back to the wolves?

Review:
Sean has been on the run for years and after his last confrontation he is ready to give up. Not knowing where he is at and with his loss of strength Sean begins to give up. He cannot go on for much longer but when an Alpha comes to his rescue things begin to change. Can Gareth really be what he seems. Never in his life has Sean met an Alpha that he could trust but Gareth is changing that.
Sean and Gareth’s story is a nice read that is full of emotions and mystery. Sean hides many secrets and must decide if he will trust Gareth with not only his body but his heart as well. There is a lot of tension and build up in the first two thirds of the book, but it seemed to slow down towards the end, and I found the ending lacking for me. It lacked the oomph that the rest of the story has. There is good character development and world building, but I found the personalities of the bad guys a bit overdone. Overall, this is a nice introduction to this world and series. The author weaves an original story that pulled me in and has me eager to return to this world.

Power Plays & Straight A’s (CU Hockey #1) by Eden Finley , Saxon James

Good Reads

Blurb

FOSTER:

“Look out for Zach and don’t hit on him.”

My brother’s request sounds easy enough. Keep an eye out for his best friend on campus and keep my hands to myself.

Easy.

Even if Zach is a quintessential nerd, who I’ve always thought was cute, I don’t have the time to think with my … stick.

There’s only one stick I should be focused on this year, and that’s my hockey stick. My goal once I graduate is to get an NHL contract.

The last thing I need is a distraction. On or off the ice.

Only, keeping to the rules is harder than I thought it would be.

ZACH:

People confuse me.

And no one more than Foster Grant.

I’ve barely spoken two words to him in the whole time I’ve known him, but the second I step foot on campus, he’s impossible to shake.

I can never anticipate his next move. And whenever we’re together, my next move is a total mystery as well.

I want to give in to him, but that might mean coming clean about something I’ve never been bothered about before.

I’m still carrying my V-card.

And I think it’s time to turn it in.

Review

This was really cute. There was a lot of humor, URST – which then became awkwardly then hawtly resolved 😉

Of course I love the hockey aspect of it and the protective instincts were awesome!

All in all I enjoyed this and will look for more from this series in the future.

Sugar and Ice (Arizona Raptors #4) by R.J. Scott , V.L. Locey

Good Reads
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52474469-sugar-and-ice

Blurb

When love is on the line, the worst decisions can end up having the best endings

Tate Collins, an all-American hockey phenomenon, was the highly marketable face of Dallas hockey. Loaded down with endorsements and playing his best game, he was a superstar and a household name. No one ever expected him to fail, but overnight, after the worst decision of his life, everything spirals out of his control. Abruptly, his reputation is in tatters, and he’s traded to the Arizona Raptors in a shocking move. Brushing off the wild and unfounded accusations that he faces on social media, and stuck on the second line, he keeps his head down and works hard to earn his spot. Tate knows he can make a difference if only his teammates would let him. Something has to change for him to earn their respect, but falling for the captain might not be his best move.

Vladislav Novikov has been called many things over his long and illustrious career, but the new nickname of Iceberg seems to fit best. Perhaps it’s due to his icy blue eyes, or the way he rams into opposing players as he defends his goalie. Or maybe it’s because of his cool demeanor when not playing the game he loves. Whatever the reason, it’s why he’s the perfect team captain for this wild bunch of puck-pushers. His perfectly controlled life is smooth as ice until Tate Collins rides into Tucson with his apple pie ways and those damn dimples. The young superstar immediately catches his eye. Despite knowing better than to start something with a teammate, the big, bad Iceberg is about to have that chilly veneer around his heart melted away by Tate one sweet kiss at a time.

Review

This was fairly cute but not my favorite – only because I really can’t tolerate the D/s in anything – even though this is really minor.

I would have loved to see these guys go toe to toe – but it was really pretty angst free and though I enjoyed reading it – I’m sure I won’t read it again and it is pretty forgettable.

I was looking forward to the Russian captain and his icey ways – and they are there, but I can’t say I was looking forward to Tate’s story – the authors did too good a job of making me dislike him. The ending was a little disappointing and lack luster, though maybe appropriate for the characters.

All in all I think fans of the series will enjoy this but I wouldn’t necessarily choose this as a representable sample of the series for someone new to it.

Review

This was adorable! No angst. Super sweet. Lots of cute love names and insta love.

I am not always in the mood for this type of story – but right now I am!

I enjoy the ease of the story and the love that develops still felt authentic.

Highly enjoyable!

Audiobook: Golden Valley (Pack #3) by Cardeno C. narrated by Ezekiel Robinson

A generous Alpha with a tragic past and a young Omega with hopes for the future overcome mistakes to heal a pack and find happiness together.

Life has thrown more than his fair share of challenges and losses at Alpha Morgan Peters. Despite his pain and disappointment, the shifter picks himself up and does right by his pack. As the years pass, Morgan establishes himself as a leader who is as kind as he is strong and Golden Valley prospers. But it isn’t until an Omega shifter enters his life that Morgan sees hope for a future where he can be more than an Alpha.

When Psi Omega Ricky Marx goes to Golden Valley as a representative of his home pack, he is thrilled to find his mate—the beautiful, powerful Golden Valley Alpha. Unfortunately, their first meeting doesn’t go well, and overwhelmed by his mistakes, Ricky sees no choice but to flee.

Morgan’s past makes him struggle to absorb more loss. Ricky’s youth makes him struggle to find his voice. But if these two shifters can overcome their challenges and come back together, they’ll heal the Golden Valley pack and fulfill their destiny.

Review

First, let me say how absolutely PSYCHED I am to see Cardeno C writing again! I love this series – I probably read or listen to the entire shifter series and the Mates series 3 or 4 times a year. It’s a definite comfort for me and I am so grateful to have more to add in to the mix!

I was happy to see Ricky get his own story and I found Morgan to be a fabulous mate for him.

There are things I didn’t love – how long they were separated/how little time they spent together on page being the biggest issue. There were things I loved – how Ricky just goes for it and essentially demands to be mated and I loved seeing the folks from Blue Mountain again.

Overall, Red River is still my favorite in this series but I think it might tie with Blue Sky for next honors.

Highly recommended to fans of the author, the series, fated mates, mpreg, shifter stories and paranormal romance in general!

Audio

Ezekiel Robinson is definitely a narrator I trust. He does a good job with the story line but I found his lack of unique voices a little disappointing. Everyone (mostly) sounded the same.

It was a good way to listen to the story and he’s still a great narrator whom I will look to in the future, but it wasn’t my favorite from him.

Hedge Witches Lonely Hearts Club: Book One

When a coven of hedge witches casts a spell for their hearts’ desires, the world turns upside down.

Bartholomew Baker is afraid to hope for his heart’s true desire—the gregarious woodworker who sells his wares next to Bartholomew at the local craft fairs—so he writes the spell for his baking business to thrive and allow him to quit his office job. He’d rather pour his energy into emotionally gratifying pastry! But the magic won’t allow him to lie, even to himself, and the spellcasting has unexpected consequences.

For two years Lachlan has been flirting with Bartholomew, but the shy baker with the beautiful gray eyes runs away whenever their conversation turns personal. He’s about to give up hope… and then Bartholomew rushes into a convention in the midst of a spellcasting disaster of epic proportions.

Suddenly everybody wants a taste of Bartholomew’s baked goods—and Bartholomew himself. Lachlan gladly jumps on for the ride, enduring rioting crowds and supernatural birds for a chance with Bartholomew. Can Bartholomew overcome the shyness that has kept him from giving his heart to Lachlan?

Review
I don’t always know what I’m going to get with a book written by Amy
Lane but I know I am going to enjoy it. With this book Amy has given us love and magic, what a potent combination. I fell in love with timid, shy, naive Bartholomew who turns out to be a hero in this story. Lachlan is determined that Bartholomew will pay attention to him and realise how much he is attracted to Bartholomew. Here’s where love and magic get sticky because you can’t fool magic. Magic knows Bartholomew’s true hearts desire is Lachlan. Now the fun begins in the book. Such a wonderful comedy of errors occurs as
Bartholomew, his coven and Lachlan try to appease magic and put things right. True love blossoms in amongst the mayhem and Bartholomew realises he can rely on Lachlan to back him up and support him.
Whilst Bartholomew and Lachlan’s story comes to a wonderful happy for now ending there was a tiny cliffhanger. I do hope the next story is out soon this coven grabbed my heart with their spell and I don’t want to break free from them just yet.
