Hendrix~

One minute, I’m on patrol with my partner. The next, I’m waking up after being in a coma for weeks and my whole world has changed. On the bright side, my twin brother tells me he’s moving home after being gone for almost ten years, and I couldn’t be happier. Plus, I woke up. That’s definitely a positive. On the other hand, they don’t know if I’ll ever walk again, my brother’s dating my best friend, and I’m starting to obsess about my brother’s best friend … yeah, like that’s not a disaster waiting to happen. How’s my brother going to feel if I admit I’m bisexual after all these years? After watching him struggle alone?
And am I really thinking about Gavin, the man I’ve resented for keeping my brother away all these years? But I can’t take my eyes off of him, especially when his brown eyes seem so sad and haunted.

Gavin~

Following my best friend to Baltimore was an easy decision since he’s the only family I have, and finding a physical therapist job was a bonus. But now I’m afraid of being a burden to him and his new boyfriend, so I’ve been keeping to myself. The loneliness is seeping back in, and the person that’s been helping is the last one I’d expect. Hendrix has always hated me, but the more I help him recover, the more of him shines through, and I begin seeing him in a different light. He’s always been my best friend’s grumpy, twin brother, but now he’s the straight guy I can’t stop thinking about, the one I can’t stop checking out, and the one I can’t have. Not that I even want anyone after everything—my baggage is too heavy for even me to deal with, let alone someone else… but that doesn’t stop me from daydreaming about him.

With Hendrix harboring family secrets, and Gavin’s painful past still bleeding like an open wound, can these two men find a way to help each other dig deeper? Or will they hide from their truths and forsake the potential staring them right in the face?

Digging Deeper is the second book in the Interlocking Fragments series, but is a standalone novel. Each book in the series will feature a different couple, but the couples will show up throughout the whole series. This is a contemporary romance intended for 18+.

Review

I mostly agree that this is a standalone, however, you’d miss out on a LOT of back story if you only read this – and – since book one was so good – I’d recommend reading them both – in order!

This is a recovery story – for both our MCs. Mostly Hendrix, but Gavin has his healing to do as well.

I loved the way these two played off one another and their chemistry is scorching!

If you enjoyed book 1 you’ll love this and if you’re a fan of tough love and inspiring HEAs this is the story for you.

Highly recommended!

Audiobook: His Hart’s Command by A.E Via; narrated by Aiden Snow

audiobookreview

Audible

https://www.audiobooks.com/audiobook/nothing-special-vi-his-harts-command/392780

Blurb:
Lennox Freeman (Free) is one of the best hackers in the world which has caused him to spend most of his life on the run. Never able to put down roots, he couldn’t trust anyone not to take advantage of him, even his own family.

Ivan Hart has lived and bled one creed all of his life: To Serve and Protect. His intense focus and determination in law enforcement has led him to finally commanding his own team. He’d worked hard to put together a squad of badasses capable of backing up a very dangerous team of detectives. Being God and Day’s last line of defense came with a lot of responsibility that he took very seriously.

After his divorce was final Hart turned right around and remarried his job. He had his good friends there in the office with him every day, so it was easier to ignore the few quiet hours he spent at home alone each night. He’d settled well into his new routine and was comfortable with it. Then God decided to disrupt everything by hiring another tech specialist for his department. A man whose brains, trendy looks, and voice would leave Hart tongue-tied and captivated at their first introduction.

Review:

I love this series in audio! Aiden Snow has been the perfect narrator for this series.
This is Free’s story (we first meet him in NS V). He’s a former hacker (with a heart of gold) who’s had a difficult childhood, so he’s a bit skittish around really big, burly men. But for some reason, he’s enamoured with Ivan Hart. Ivan, for all his big size, is a gentle soul. Both these men were made for each other.
Their journey to being a couple is so sweet, both men dancing around each other, but when the do get together – damn! They are so hot *phew*.
As mentioned before, Aiden Snow does a great job with the narration. He has a gorgeous voice, so well suited for the growly, alpha men that dominate the story. He has been great for the series so far . The only (minor) observation is that there is not that much distinction between most of the men –except for God, Day, Tech and Free, but the story is well written enough that you always know which character is talking. His accent for Free was great! As a Brit, I had been a little wary that he wouldn’t get it right, but it sounded great, especially since it was supposed to be a slight accent.
Great story (4 stars) with excellent narration (5 stars)!

Overall: 4.5 stars

Holiday Review: Silver and Solstice by TJ Nichols

Dreamspinner Press

Blurb
Calvin is good at two things: stealing and being the worst boyfriend
ever. He can’t help his sticky fingers, even though Rafe has pleaded with him
to stop. When a job goes horribly wrong, Calvin’s fate is in the hands of his
silversmith boyfriend.
Rafe has done everything he can to put distance between himself and the
restrictions of being a princeling. He has a craft, a shop, a shifter boyfriend,
and lives a completely disreputable life.
But to save Calvin from spending Solstice in a cage, Rafe will have to
step up and face his father, head of the city guard. Rafe’s father has had
enough of Calvin flouting the law. Shifters are supposed to be collared in the
city.
Calvin finally knows what to make for Rafe for solstice, though it breaks
the promise they made to each other….

Review

Calvin and Rafe have a special relationship but Rafe’s family is not pleased about the two men and how they are living. They believe that Calvin should know and stay in his place far away from Rafe. Yet the bond that Calvin and Rafe have cannot be broken or can it? Will one last job cost Calvin the love he shares with Rafe or will the two find a way to happiness?

This is a sweet and fast paced story. The characters are engaging, and I was pulled into the story right from the start. Love and trust is strong between Calvin and Rafe. Each man shows what a good man he truly is and is more than willing to sacrifice everything for the other man. The author has created a wonderous world full of magic and emotions. I wish it had been longer and that we got to see more form this couple.

Recent Release: The Guppy Prince (The Silver Isles #1) by C.W. Gray

Good Reads

Blurb

Dover Rees is a guppy tailed merman and the youngest child of the King of the Southern Silver Isles. Despite the lofty title, he fits in better with the other guppy tailed working class than with his royal siblings. Dover spends his days secluded in his creek, successfully avoiding the King’s court and all the judgmental nobles there. Then, the most wonderous and horrible thing happens. He hears the mating call and knows his alpha is waiting for him.
Ben Elliot is just a human trying to get by in a small tourist beach town. He has his art and a few good friends, and that should be enough, right? Wrong. Coming home to a quiet house and an empty bed starts to wear on him, but none of the omegas he knows appeal to him. Until a storm knocks him off his fishing boat and he’s rescued by a mysterious, blue-haired omega.

Together, Dover and Ben forge a bond strong enough to stand against the storm of corrupt lords, court politics, and a cursed king.
Author’s Note: Around 47,000 words. This is a paranormal, merman, mpreg insta-love story with no angst and no cheating, just a HEA. There are a few potty mouths, so beware. 18+ readers only, please. It is book one in The Silver Isles series.

Review

This was just too much.  Too sappy.  Too long.  Too much side story.  Too many characters.  Too many cheesy jokes.  Just too much.

I loved the idea but it quickly grew tiring.

Not recommended.

Holiday Review: The Great Aerodynamcist by A. Nybo

Blurb:

Thinking he’s up to the task, droll Irishman Donnell, who is new to Australia, has almost completed assembling a model steampunk flying machine for his nephew’s Christmas present. Then an accident involving a parachute, some superglue, and his mouth lands Donnell in the emergency room with two of his fantasy men… only one of whom is real.

Review:

Such a fun, short story! It managed to pack in quite a bit of humour and a bit of heat in fewer than 40 pages 🙂
Donnell and Charlie are wonderful men, both sweet with great senses of humour. I loved that there was a bit of a crush going on before they actually meet, it gave a bit of depth to their subsequent romance.
My only complaint is that I wish this could have been a longer story, as the couple were a delight.

Holiday Review: The Carpenter’s Prince by J. Ellis

Dreamspinner

https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/the-carpenters-prince-by-jayce-ellis-11568-b

Blurb:

Sean Edwards would do anything for his nephew, including designing the props for a children’s version of the Nutcracker. He’s ready for the long nights and weekends in the workshop—they’re part of the job, especially given the short notice. The insanely sexy head ballerino is completely unexpected, however.
All principal danseur Keni Jackson wants is to surpass last year’s performance, blow people’s socks off, and cement his place in the studio. The last thing he needs is something to shatter his carefully held control—like a cuddly carpenter who favors jazz over Tchaikovsky.
Sean and Keni are drawn to each other, but not everyone is a fan of their relationship. When Keni’s position is threatened, they have to decide whether to walk away for good, or if what they’ve found is worth fighting for.

Review:

Very nicely written story. The characters were well-defined characters and there was quite a bit of emotional depth to the story, despite its brevity. Keni and Sean worked well together, both trying to be the others anchor.

Holiday Review: Wishing on a Dream by Michele Notaro

Good reads

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/48705196-wishing-on-a-dream?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=jBg850pafy&rank=1

Blurb

I can’t really complain about my life; I have a job I love and a best friend that fills the void of my nonexistent family, but sometimes I’m lonelier than I like to admit. Especially with the holiday season approaching, I can’t help but wish I had someone special to share it with.
My friend gives me a snow globe with a man and a snowy owl inside, and for some bizarre reason, this man starts showing up every night when I close my eyes. It’s… not real, but I can’t seem to get the guy out of my head. It probably shouldn’t surprise me that my brain conjures up the perfect man in my dreams… well, almost perfect if he’d stop claiming to be a warlock. But the crazy thing is that all of it—that he—feels so real.
When I start falling for the man, the warlock, I can’t help but wish that what we have in my dreams could be a reality. I know it can’t, but at least when I’m asleep, I can be with him—with Alaric.
Although this book is part of A Snow Globe Christmas series, it is a complete stand alone and it isn’t a requirement that you read the previous books to follow along. We wish everyone a happy holiday season.
Review

I loved this!  It was magical and sweet and full of surprising moments.  For me, the story was fresh and offered a new twist on a familiar theme – sort of like a genie trapped in a bottle.

It was fun watching these two fall in love and watching “Ric” explore the modern world.

This was AMAZING!  Eli did it again!  I adored this!  It was sweet with such a lovely Christmas-miracle twist that I was in tears!

I loved Stanton.  LOVED him.  He was adorable and he was equally matched with Jamie.  The two of them together are like cotton candy ice cream!  Just sweet as can be!  Mia is fun and keeps the story from getting maudlin and I loved Stanton’s mother and her input as well as her relationship to Mia.

This is fun, sweet, sexy, and adorable.

Recent Release: On the Same Page (Secrets #4) by K.C. Wells and Parker Williams

Dreamspinner

https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/on-the-same-page-by-kc-wells-and-parker-williams-11444-b

Blurb
When a Dom invites a shy bookstore owner to live out his fantasies, more than one life will be transformed.

Words are Heath Snow’s life. He can’t remember a time when he didn’t have his nose buried in a book. He couldn’t make a living as a writer, so he did the next best thing—he bought a bookstore. But when he’s not selling books, he’s living vicariously through the characters he encounters. Real men can’t hold a candle to the hot men in his favorite genre.

The Pride display in the bookstore window may be what captured Xavier James’s attention, but the man enthusing about books interests him more. The BDSM book lying next to the cash register is a pleasant surprise, and when he draws attention to it, Heath’s flushed cheeks and bright eyes pique Xavier’s curiosity even further.

Xavier is about to learn that some things are more important than work, and Heath is about to step out of his comfort zone, into a place where fantasy and real life coexist.

Review

I loved this new addition to the Secrets family! It stands out a bit from the other books in the series, as it’s quite light as far as BDSM goes, but as for character development and storytelling it is completely up to par with the rest and just a really wonderful love story.
I’m always partial to books with MC’s that own a bookstore, because books… and Heath’s shop seems so inviting and amazing, I wish I could actually visit it and get him to recommend books to me. I loved all the casual mentions of books and authors in this story, some of which were new to me. Must remedy that situation asap!
I loved how Xavier and Heath got together and the way Xavier introduced Heath to the club and the naughty fun they can have while roleplaying. It’s quite a whirlwind romance, almost too good to be true. Everything all rainbows and (proverbial) sunshine until … something happens that might ruin everything for our beloved couple. I cringed inwardly when Xavier made a mess of things at a certain point, as he struggled with his priorities and the whole “honesty is the best policy” thing that tends to be crucial in a good relationship. Though in his defense, he was in between a rock and hard place, and anyway, what’s a romance without a little rough patch to overcome on the way to happily ever after?
As always in this series, as well as in the collars and cuffs series, the MC’s can count on their friends to help them out or lend a listening ear. I absolutely adored seeing Rob again, as well as the other characters from earlier books of course, but Rob is so special. I just love him to bits. He is such a mischievous, vibrant character and then he earned my undying devotion by pitching the idea to start a book club. Team Rob, people.

Holiday Review: A Stitch in Time by Asta Idonea

Dreamspinner

Blurb

When Connor’s friend signs him up for a crochet course, the last thing he expects is to find love. However, at the community center, he meets hunky Finn. There’s only one problem: Finn assumes Connor’s there for the boxing class, and Connor lets him believe it, worried Finn will ditch him if he knows Connor prefers crafting to upper cuts. Can they salvage the situation when the truth comes out?

Review

Very cute holiday romance with enough angst not to make it too cloyingly sweet. I really liked that both MC’s had such atypical hobby’s and the way they struggled to with (perceived) prejudices, even their own. The misunderstanding about why they’re both at the community center is resolved with some drama, but I really enjoyed how the author wrote that in. The writing flowed easily and was well-paced, never dragging nor rushing to cramp the necessary events into this novella-length story.
