On his way home from vacation, Scott Gregory, a closeted sub, hooks up with the gorgeous Red, a flamboyant Dom, for a thrilling one-off at a BDSM bar. They part ways after a satisfying scene… but meet again when Robin Kennedy—Red—arrives at his new job as a dental hygienist and discovers one of his two bosses is Scott.

Robin and Scott embark on a journey of exploration into their kinkier sides and discover they’re more than compatible—they’re a perfect match. But keeping employer/employee and Dom/sub separate at the office presents difficulties, and to make matters even more complicated, the owner of the dental practice is an acknowledged homophobe.

They fall in love, but Robin chafes at all the secrecy, refusing to live in the shadows. Scott isn’t as brave; he’s desperate to protect his job and his future. Will they be able to find some middle ground… or will their entire relationship fall apart because of fear?

Review

This is such a steamy book. Wow. I enjoy ready D/s and BDSM books. You can tell the author knows what they’re writing about regardless if research or personal. Scott and Robin (Red) have a hot first meet and a very amusing second….first meet. The chemistry between them is amazing. Good humor here and there. The situation with having a homophobe boss sucks for the two and is something that unfortunately still happens. Especially since Scott has had to be in and out of the closet in his past before. The POV shifts threw me sometimes when it went to the secondary characters. Not something I’ve encountered in a book before, but I see where there was a need, yet would have been perfectly fine if left out. The BDSM scenes and details of the D/s dynamic were exciting to read. It was also nice reading the parts where they made things as a non D/s couple, not letting their roles limit the experiences together. Ron was an absolute prick and I despised his narrow-mindedness. Heart went out for Scott and Robin and held out hope for the two. Excellent read and will definitely read the next book in this series.

Prince Charming is the man next door.
Small-town business owner Jason Brewster has big dreams: world travel, adventure, and, most of all, a passionate romance worthy of a fairy tale. But he doesn’t believe fantasies can come true…. Until Adam moves in next door. He’s handsome, cultured, European, and, best of all, interested in Jason. It’s like something out of the stories Jason loves.
But Adam – whose real name is Amadeo Montefalcone – has a secret. He’s royalty, prince of the small country of Monterosia. Only he doesn’t want to rule, and especially doesn’t want the loveless marriage waiting for him at home. So he ran away in search of true love. With a man. And with Jason, he finds it. But Adam can’t run forever. The truth will come out. If Jason can forgive Adam’s deception, they might find their happily ever after.

Review

The love story is soooo cute and has such a wonderful ending! I loved all the mythology references and I thought the steam level was just right.
I enjoyed this immensely and highly recommend it!

The audio was ok. The accents weren’t good but he tried. In general I think this is better read than listened to, but it wasn’t a terrible way to go if you have no choice.

Audiobook: Two of a kind by BA Tortuga narrated by John Solo

Blurb

Working on a full house.
Once upon a time, Trey Williamson and Ap McIntosh had quite the whirlwind romance – but that was before family tragedy left them the guardians of five kids. Their lives have changed quite a bit over the last six years, but Ap is still on the rodeo circuit, doing what he does best in an attempt to feed all those extra mouths.
That leaves Trey back on the ranch, isolated and overworked as the kids’ sole caregiver. Something has to give, and when Ap comes home, they’re reminded how hot they burned once upon a time. But is it a love that can withstand wrangling over time, money, and the future? They have to decide what kind of family they want to be…and whether what they share can stand the test of time.

Review

Warm and fuzzy but not a lot of romance here.

There is a lot of “western” dialog, lots of feelz for Ap, and a teeny tiny bit of romance.

If you’re a fan of the author and family stories this will appeal. I found myself struggling to continue.

John Solo does a fair job, he’s a good narrator for this as his style meshes with the author’s well.

Blurb

A Tucker Springs Novel

Welcome to Tucker Springs, Colorado, where sparks fly when opposites attract—but are some obstacles too great to overcome?

When tattoo artist Seth Wheeler meets his new neighbor, it’s like a revelation. Darren Romero is everything Seth wants in a man: hot, clever, single, and interested. For a minute he seems perfect. Then Darren drops the bomb: he moved to Tucker Springs to be a pastor at the New Light Church.

As a gay man whose parents threw him out, Seth has a strict policy of keeping believers at arm’s length for self-preservation. But Darren’s perseverance and the chemistry bubbling between them steadily wear down his defenses.

In a small town like Tucker Springs, Seth can’t avoid Darren—or how much he wants him. Which means he needs to decide what’s more important: protecting himself, or his feelings for his neighbor.

Second Edition

First Edition published by Riptide Publishing, March 2013.

Review

Covet Thy Neighbor is the fourth book in the Tucker Springs series. Each book can easily be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the previous books because previous characters are brought up in this book.

Any book with religious content is hit or miss for me, sometimes they come off too preachy and other times to sacrilegious, but Covet Thy Neighbor walked the line perfectly. I very much enjoyed Darren, who is a youth pastor and his perspective about faith and being gay.

For the most part I also liked Seth. He’s a proclaimed atheist. He walked away from any sort of religion due to his upbringing. However, what kind of irked me about Seth was how much he kept bring religion and how at times he was border line hypocritical. Darren does his best to soothe the snarky Seth and his doubts about whether a relationship between the two could ever work. Overall this was a good story, with lots sizzling moments.

Recent Review: Inked Music by Sean Michael

Dreamspinner Press
https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/inked-music-by-sean-michael-10353-b

Blurb

Can a wealthy but bored businessman rescue a tortured musician from his self-imposed purgatory with a scorching kinky romance?
When Rene Conette attends an intimate performance at a local bar, the guitarist moves him enough that he attempts to go backstage but is stymied by the man’s bodyguard. Putting it down as not meant to be, he goes on with his life only to run into the man again, late at night at a bookstore.
Gavin Turner used to be a famous musician until an obsessed fan kidnapped and tortured him. Then it came out that he was into the BDSM lifestyle, and the court of public opinion ravaged him. He lost his Master and his self-confidence. Now he hides behind his ink and his bodyguards, who make sure he doesn’t come into contact with anyone or anything he doesn’t want to. Though it’s been years since he satisfied his needs, he doesn’t think he can trust again.
If Rene can work his way past Gavin’s defenses, they might find they complement each other perfectly.

Review

Once Rene sees Gavin he is lost. He must at least speak to the man, but Gavin has locked himself away from the world because of what has happened in his past. Rene is more than ready to climb every hurdle that stands in his way to get to Gavin. He longs to prove to Gavin that he is safe and wants nothing more than Gavin’s happiness. The two must work through Gavin’s pain and fright but Rene proves that he is there for the long haul and will do whatever Gavin needs him to do and be. It won’t be easy but who said that getting what you truly want ever is?

Rene and Gavin’s story is a beautiful read. Gavin has a lot of fear to work through and Rene is more than willing to help him through it all. Gavin is stronger when he has a good man to lean on. His bodyguards will always be there for him, but Gavin still needs more, someone to love and understand him. Rene is more than ready to be that man. I enjoyed seeing the relationship build between Gavin and Rene. The trust and love comes slowly but it is strong and lasting. It was nice to see Gavin begin to live again with the help of Rene. The two are perfect together and seeing how hot they are together is wonderful. The two are made for each other and the love that they share shows in everything that they do proving that true love can help one heal from even the worst pain.

Recent Review: Under His Protection by LaQuette

Dreamspinner: https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/under-his-protection-by-laquette-10368-b

Blurb: They can escape their enemies, but not the desire between them.
Prosecutor Camden Warren is on the fast track to professional nirvana. With his charm, his sharp legal mind, and his father as chief judge in the highest court in NY, he can’t fail. Nothing can derail his rise to the top… until an attempt on his life forces him to accept the help of a man he walked out on five years ago.

Wounded in the line of duty, Lieutenant Elijah Stephenson wants to ride his new desk job until retirement—not take a glorified babysitting gig with more risk than it’s worth… especially not protecting the entitled lawyer who disappeared after the best sex of their lives.
The threat against Camden’s life is real, but their passion for each other might prove the greatest danger they’ve yet to face.

Review: An enjoyable suspense story, with a second chance romance.
Camden, (an assistant district attorney (ADA)) and Elijah, (a policeman recovering from a sting gone bad) met on a blind date 5 years prior. Both had a great time, but Cam was/is on a career path that does not include dating a cop.
Fast forward to the present. Cam is a target of a fringe group and guess who’s assigned to protect – (and *serve*) – as they are holed up together☺).
The attraction is still there, but both men have to get over the past hurt, especially Elijah. They do so relatively easily, which is refreshing.
The story is well written, interesting and with a lot of heated moments. The secondary characters, mostly Elijah’s family are fun; Cam’s parents, not so much (I’m glad Cam made his own decision in the end).
Overall, it’s a good, quick read. I would definitely ready more from this (new to me) author.

Recent Release: Fire and Obsidian (Carlisle Deputies #4) by Andrew Grey

Dreamspinner

Blurb
Can a couple be more opposite than a thief and a cop? Or do they have more in common than they think?
Mattias stole to survive. He was damn good at it. But there’s no such thing as a victimless crime, and when he saw how his theft hurt people, he resolved to change. Now he works as a consultant, and while helping to investigate a rash of burglaries, he crosses paths with James.
Police Officer James Levinson doesn’t trust thieves, and that includes Mattias. James’s father stole to support himself, and James knows firsthand how that can destroy lives—it inspired him to go into law enforcement. Mattias is no different, from what he can tell… at first.
As they work together, Mattias and James realize there’s something deeper between them than just the physical attraction neither can deny. Given time, they might even grow to trust each other—unless the case they’re working on dredges up pasts both would rather forget.

Review

I very much enjoyed this new book in the Carlisle Deputies series and I loved the connection between Mattias and James. They really bring the opposites attract magic! I loved the humor and chemistry the MC’s shared and I think it’s great that it wasn’t too easy for them to fall in love. The trust issues are real and don’t magically disappear after the first kiss. There’s also a very well-written, Big Misunderstanding, that really amps up the emotional intensity of the story. I’m not usually a fan of this type of thing, but the author made it work beautifully.

One thing I’ve come to expect in an Andrew Grey romance is for one or both of the MC’s to get a raw deal when it comes to their parents. Here it’s both. Poor guys. I especially felt bad for James, because his father puts him in an untenable situation, morally and emotionally.

This is a really well-written story, a wonderful combination of romance and suspense.

Recent Release: Looking for Trouble by Riley Hart

Good Reads

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/44311835-looking-for-trouble?from_search=true

Blurb

Dylan Sutton doesn’t go looking for trouble, but it always seems to find him. After the devastating loss of his father, he travels across the country to deliver a letter to his dad’s estranged best friend. But surely, he deserves a night of relaxation when he first gets to town, right? He sets his sights on the attractive older guy at the bar—except his almost-one-night-stand turns out to be the very man he’s in town to see. Oops.

Clayton Turner has a nasty habit of either losing or hurting the people he cares about. After his partner died, he’d decided keeping to himself was the smartest life choice. He doesn’t count on trouble stumbling into his life in the form of a sexy guy twenty years his junior… and for that guy to be linked to one of the most painful losses of Clay’s past.

Fate steps in and Dylan gets stranded in Bailey Springs. He gets a job, and Clay can’t stop himself from trying to help Dylan get on his feet. And Dylan? Well, Dylan can’t seem to stop flirting with Clay. He tries, he really does…just about as much as Clay attempts not to like it. They couldn’t be more different…or are they? Soon, Trouble and Sad Eyes realize they have a lot more in common than they thought, and once they land in bed together, there’s no going back. Moving forward isn’t any easier, though. Clay’s always walked the straight and narrow, always followed all the rules. But what does he do when the only right path involves looking for trouble?

Review

4 stars for this. It’s really good, but not terrific.

I liked the MCs a lot, but they carried so much baggage and it was a rush job to explain and (sort of?) relieve them of their burdens.

I admit I wasn’t so sold on the “it doesn’t matter” 20 year age gap.

It would matter to me.

A lot.

And I wasn’t seeing them having a lot in common to overcome said gap.

Except sex which – 45 years old and still banging like a 25 year old – god bless ya!

It was a bit dark and I was hoping we could delve more deeply into some of that darkness but it was kind of swept away pretty easily. No elbow grease, just a quick Hoover situation.

I wanted to know more about April and the love triangle and I wanted to know more about Gordon. Also did Dylan not have any of his own lovers to think back upon?

In any case, it was good, kept my interest, but not great and I know Riley can write great stories.

Recent Release: Rebound (Seattle Steelheads #1) by L.A. Witt

Good Reads

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/44291916-rebound

Blurb

A forty-something single dad, a twenty-something hockey star, and a whole lot of baggage. No, this couldn’t possibly blow up in their faces.

Officer Geoff Logan has his plate full. His cop’s salary and Marine retirement aren’t enough to make ends meet. He’s got war wounds and demons that are in it for the long haul. His teenagers are, well, teenagers, plus they’re pissed that he left the boyfriend they loved. Can’t a guy catch a break?

Seattle Steelheads center Asher Crowe has it all. A seven figure salary. A literal house on a hill. A stable, loving relationship with an amazing boyfriend. At least, that’s what the world sees. Behind closed doors, he’s been living in a private hell, and when he finally works up the courage to end things, his boyfriend refuses to go quietly.

One call to the cops, and suddenly Geoff and Asher’s paths cross. But is the connection between them simple chemistry? Kindred spirits? Or just a pair of lonely hearts looking for a hot distraction?

And even if it’s more than physical, is there really a future for two men from such vastly different worlds? Especially when the past comes knocking?

This novel is approximately 89,000 words long.
TW: abuse, combat PTSD

Review

There was a LOT that I loved about this. From a hot, steamy romance persepective this was – on fire! The two MCs are open with each other. Share similar backgrounds (in terms of abuse) and really spark one another.

Beyond that there were a lot of problems – for me.

The hockey just wasn’t there enough to make me feel that was part of the story. Beyond some occasional practices and games he could have been in any profession and I think that’s just not applicable. His coming out, his game, his personality, his physicality, and his ego should have played more of a part and it wasn’t that believable.

The kids bothered the crap out of me. I wanted to shake them and their dad for not coming clean. I didn’t get why the ex wanted to manipulate the dad through the kids and that bothered me the entire story.

So… while I enjoyed it, I didn’t love it and I’d recommend it with a grain of salt.
