The last thing Sebastian Zeller wants is to be pack Alpha. But when the pack leader, his uncle Ron, is attacked, he has no choice but to leave his beloved Colorado mountains and fulfill his duty as Ron’s heir—at least until his uncle recovers. In the meantime, he intends to lure the attacker out… and make them pay.

When Ron gets wind of Sebastian’s plan to catch the attacker, he doesn’t like the idea of risking his heir. That’s where Jaxon Reedis comes in—he’ll balance protecting the dark and sexy werewolf with pretending to be his personal assistant. He’s walking a fine line that requires all his foxy wit and craftiness… and that’s on top of the inescapable feeling that he and Sebastian are meant for each other. When the attacker returns, will they be able to maintain their deepening bond when danger threatens to tear down everything they’re building

Review
This is the second book in Julia Talbot’s Nose to Tail Inc series. It is completely a stand-alone book, although it’s worth reading (or listening) to the first book. Both are entertaining shifter books in completely different ways. Sebastian and his best friend Alan are putting themselves in danger looking for Ron’s attackers. Jaxon works for Nose to Tail inc and is hired to protect Sebastian, acting as Sebastian’s assistant as his cover. I never thought a wolf and fox would fit together so perfectly. Sebastian and Jaxon’s outlook and personalities work well together because Sebastian just wants to work on his art and find the people responsible for attacking Ron. Whilst Jaxon is a speedy fox, always organised with his finger on the button sorting Sebastian out. At the same time he is monitoring Sebastian’s movements to keep him safe. There are two threads to this story the mystery over who attacked Ron, also the subsequent threat to Sebastian for pursuing it, and the bubbling building romance between Sebastian and Jaxon. Add to the pot Ron’s determination to name Sebastian the next Alpha and you have an enjoyable story.

Joseph Morgan‘s has a good tone and speed with his narration. He provides a good portrayal of Jaxon as a fox shifter with a slight edge to his voice as if he was ready to leap into action at a moments notice. Whilst his portrayal of Sebastian’s character added to the frustrated artist vibe but also someone who was fun to be with.

Home, love, and possibilities he never imagined are waiting for Billy Joe to claim them. But first he needs to escape the horrors of his past.

A twisted act of cruelty and prejudice drives Billy Joe from his Mississippi home, and he makes it as far as Pennsylvania—where his car breaks down just as the year’s first snowstorm blows in. Fortunately, Carlos is there to lend a hand.

Carlos is no stranger to hardship. His family rejected him for being gay, but with determination, he put himself through school and became a librarian. Carlos sees the same willpower in Billy, and he wants to help Billy and his son succeed in a new life that is very different from the one they left behind. With his support, they start to adjust, and before long, both men want more than encouragement from each other. They want the chance for a future together, but their families have other ideas… and Billy’s will stop at nothing to get what they want

Review
This is a story about the impact of blood family, not in a good way, and how choosing and making your own family can make a world of difference. Billy Joe escapes from a toxic family life. One he does not want to bring his son up in. He drives as far as he can where he meets Carlos. Carlos was rejected by his family. Together they build a new life and family. With another author this story would be angst driven but with Andrew Grey that is not the case. It’s good to have the drama and the emotions without all the angst and crisis that can weigh a story down. Here both Carlos and Billie Joe help each other through the tough times and come out the other side stronger and full of hope for the future.
This is the first book I’ve listened to narrated by Jack Richmond. He portrayed the characters quite well giving each their distinct voices. His tone is easy to listen to and follow.

Can the two of them get past their fear of the immediate future to see forever with each other?

Review

(Book reviewed here previously)

I absolutely loved these guys! The hurt/comfort between these two was off the charts in the sweet factor and I fell in love with them and their little extended family/ies.

I kinda wanted their “de-virgininzing” to be hotter – but I guess that’s more the Dreamspun thing than anything else. Book 2 was a bit steamier and so this was a bit of a let down.

The glimpses of previous MCs was appreciated and I’m looking forward to the next in the series very much.

I really hope Nick Russo gets to do the narration…. Just my hopeful hint!

For fans of the author and the series this is a must, if you’re new to the series this isn’t my favorite of the bunch but it’s Amy so it’s great!

Sigh
Disappointed.  It’s not Nick Russo.

Peter B Brooke is just did not live up to my expectations.  His accents were good, but many times his voice lacked the emotional depth that this type of story really needs. This made it really frustrating to listen to.

While his voice overall is enjoyable at the end of it all, the frustration won out.

I’d give the narration 3 of 5 stars and overall 3.5 of 5 stars.

Review
This is one of those cases where I wish I’d read the reviews first. I was really interested in this since I’d enjoyed the first in this series. I enjoyed the narrator and since I lived in Baltimore for 4 years I enjoyed the local references.

However – I am just not a fan of BDSM and especially the Daddy kink.

Though it was mild and not at all over the top – it really turns me off.

So – I am not going to give this a rating. Simply tell you to look up other reviews if you like that kink – from what I read many people loved it! – and let you know that the writing style was good, the chemistry between characters was phenomenal and the narrator did a nice job. I just couldn’t finish this as it wasn’t to my personal preference or taste.

DNF/no rating

Some things are sweeter than revenge.
“I need a boyfriend.”
Hearing those words from his very straight, very ex-best friend doesn’t put Nate in a helpful mood. Not only did Kellan Brooks’s father destroy Nate’s family in his quest for power, but Kellan broke Nate’s heart back in high school. Nate thought he could trust his best friend with the revelation that he might be gay, only to find out he was horribly wrong and become the laughingstock of the whole school. Kellan must be truly desperate if he’s turning to Nate now.
Kellan’s through letting his father run his life, and he wants to make the man pay for cutting him off. What better way to stick it to the bigot than to come out as gay himself—especially with the son of the very man his father crushed on his quest for money and power. Kellan can’t blame Nate for wanting nothing to do with him, though. Kellan will have to convince him to play along, but it’s even harder to convince himself that the heat between them is only an act….

Review

This was originally published in 2011 and I feel even though that’s only 7 years ago, it does “date” this. There’s something about the extreme closeted/denial nature of this story that feels “older” than the books I’m reading published more recently. I think there is plenty of “secret” gayness still going on, but how it’s presented here feels more secretive than necessary – but appropriate for the time. If that makes sense.

On the one hand I feel so blessed that our society is opening up more and more to “other” and letting people be whom they are inside – and stories like this remind me of how far we’ve come. Or at least how far it feels we’ve come.

Besides that… this is a GFY, best friends to lovers story with a bit of denial thrown in for good measure. The angst is fairly high, but so is the humor and the chemistry.

I’m not a big fan of either of these guys as characters so I can’t say that I really loved this – I never warmed to Nate – but I can appreciate the ability of KA Mitchell to write “real” people.

I remember liking this the first time I read it the narrator helps to maintain that admiration. He sometimes felt a little “dramatic” but that was slight. In general he was easy to listen to, made the characters feel unique and didn’t distract from the story.

All in all I’d give the story a 3.5 of 5 stars, the narrator a 4 and round the overall up to a 4 of 5 stars as well.

Can Tennant show Jared that age is just a number, and that love is all that matters?

The Rowe Brothers are famous hockey hotshots, but as the youngest of the trio, Tennant has always had to play against his brothers’ reputations. To get out of their shadows, and against their advice, he accepts a trade to the Harrisburg Railers, where he runs into Jared Madsen. Mads is an old family friend and his brother’s one-time teammate. Mads is Tennant’s new coach. And Mads is the sexiest thing he’s ever laid eyes on.

Jared Madsen’s hockey career was cut short by a fault in his heart, but coaching keeps him close to the game. When Ten is traded to the team, his carefully organized world is thrown into chaos. Nine years his junior and his best friend’s brother, he knows Ten is strictly off-limits, but as soon as he sees Ten’s moves, on and off the ice, he knows that his heart could get him into trouble again.

Review

(Book reviewed here previously)

This drew my attention since I’m currently jonsing for some hockey! I was also curious about these two authors as a writing duo. I’ve not really been a Vocey fan, and some of RJ Scott’s latest works haven’t really impressed me – but I love her earlier books.

I think – overall – that they’re a good team. I think the new subgenre is good for Scott and gives a new direction – away from ranching and crime fighting – for her considerable writing talents.

The premise of this story and it’s start are very promising. May/December, Coach/player, family friend, closeted professional athlete, single father… you name it – lots of sexual tension and the need to keep things on the DL. I think, however, that the end result of all these reasons to keep things quiet were too many for our MCs to overcome in a short story.

There were just so many hurdles and not enough time for them to be really overcome in a way that made sense.

I appreciated that they didn’t just jump into bed, but the “slow” was too slow and Jared came across way too “father figure” and not enough “lover”. He was bossy and I never felt his emotions other than lust.

Ten seemed- sometimes – ridiculously immature and I thought his family was both ridiculous ( his oldest brother) and wonderful (his sweet mother). I wasn’t sure why he was there, but the Russian goalie – Stan – was my favorite and I hope we get to see more of him!

The book kept my interest and I’ll definitely pick up more in this series, but this wasn’t my favorite hockey book of all time.

3 of 5 stars

Audio

Sean Crisden is such a joy! He always provides a reliably wonderful listening experience and his voice is so damn sexy that I know he’ll make the most of the steamy scenes in any romance! He does a great job voicing the different “characters” and I can’t wait for Stan’s book – he does such a nice Russian accent!

Highly recommended!

(On a side note – I’m REALLY missing hockey right now and it was awesome listening to this story – hockey by an author who clearly loves/knows the sport!)

Out of the Cage: When a flight of fun goes awry, a bat shifter plays the damsel in distress.

Sekani just planned to stretch his Egyptian fruit bat’s wings a little while his vampire lover, Master Borscht Kuznetsov, sat through a conference call. Unfortunately, his short flight takes an unexpected turn when he runs into another bat…of the non-shifter variety. Sekani’s headlong rush puts him in unexpected peril. While Sekani can speak telepathically with Borscht, will it be enough for his vampire to find and rescue him?

Review

This was pretty silly and fun! Sekani and Borscht (not my favorite name ever) are one of my favorite couples in Charlie’s series. Sekani is pretty sweet and innocent still and Borscht is still his hunky savior.

Don’t expect anything to substantial, just a bit of fun.

I’ve been pretty sure Burke was my was my mate from the first time I saw him on the screen he and his brother were using to talk to each other from two different places. But as long as my leopard doesn’t smell him, I can give us both the time we need to get our lives together. The key is not meeting him physically, until the time is right. The day I walk into my best friend’s house and smell the most amazing scent on the air, I know that I’ve run out of time to get my crap figured out. In person, he’s everything I’ve ever dreamed he’d be. And I’m all too happy to claim him. But he’s been attacked by a shifter, and just found out he’s chosen. I don’t want to spring this on him too, and end up making him run back to Georgia, like he’s always threatening. What I don’t realize, is that my fear of scaring my mate, is actually breaking his heart. Can I make it right with Burke? And can I save him from a crazed, shifter stalker, who is convinced Burke is his?

Burke Hilliard

I think I might be going crazy. Maybe it’s all the work. Maybe it’s my creepy, stalkerish lab partner. But only a mental break can explain said creepy lab partner’s face going all scary, and him attacking and biting me. Right? When I go to Purdy, Nebraska to get away from it all and visit my adopted brother Sutton, it comes with a special surprise. My brother’s best friend of five years. The one I’ve never actually met, but have been in constant battle with for almost as long. The man I’ve secretly had the biggest crush on, since the very first time he annoyed and then bossed me, while I was video chatting my brother. When I learn about shifters and mates, and what the mark on my rear-end is all about, I finally understand this draw I’ve always had to the annoying man. But if that is true, then why isn’t Foster saying anything? Am I alone in this crazy pull? And is it too much to ask for him to drop that stupid nickname, and continue to call me baby?

Warning: Mpreg elements!

Also, my books have little to no angst, and lots and lots of fluff! They are better read in order, because I kind of write them like a continuation of a story, and I don’t like to repeat explanations over and over if I can help it. No cheating, because that makes my heart hurt. Sorry, I just don’t want anyone being disappointed if they like the angst filled heart-rippers. These read more like a romantic comedy than a romantic drama.

Enjoy!! ::blowing you kisses::

Review

While I’m not reviewing each book in the series – they are all really good! I think each book can be read on it’s own, but each book adds on to the one behind it – so you might as well read them all in order!

This time we have sweet Burke and Foster. Their story was set up in book 3 and pays off here. Burke is pretty hysterical and Foster doesn’t let him get away with a thing!

If you like mpreg – this series is all about that, but not in each book, specifically.

There is some shifting but not as much as I’d like, but each story is short so…

In any case these are fun, sexy and a quick light read.

Deputy US Marshal Miro Jones finally has everything he ever wanted. He’s head-over-heels in love and married to the man of his dreams, his partner Ian Doyle, he’s doing well at work, and all his friends are in good places as well. Things are all tied up nicely…until they’re not.
Change has never been easy for Miro, and when situations at work force the team he’s come to depend on to break apart, and worst of all, his and Ian’s individual strengths put them on two separate paths, he’s pretty certain everything just went up in smoke.
But before he can even worry about the future, his past comes for a visit, shaking his world up even more. It’s hard to tell what road he should truly be on, but as he learns some paths are forged and others are discovered, it might be that where he’s going is the right course after all. If he can navigate all the twists and turns, he and Ian might just get their happily ever after.

Review

(Book previously reviewed)
What a long rollercoaster ride, but totally worth it! From the opening scene to the end, never a dull moment. There are several ‘Twisting` story arcs going at once, but they are all ‘Tied’ together ?
The overarching theme of the book is family and knowing who you are.
Miro and Ian are now married, still working together, but not for long – the working together, I mean. When they get assigned to separate taskforce, (don’t tell the marshals I used that term!), Miro feels adrift, but he doesn’t have time to wallow as his past comes back to haunt him.
I’m trying not give away any of the plot, but I will say that hold on to the seat of your pants because it is one helluva ride. By the way, if you’ve read the Vault series, you’ll get a kick out of the end !
Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Audio
Wellllll, this is not my typical Mary review here.
I am a huge Mary fan and Tristan is soooo delicious. However, something was missing this time around.
First, Tristan’s accent for Ian kept slipping from “Chicago” to vaguely Irish and Mob-like and it was distracting. Miro was more or less the same, but I felt like the other “cast” members were a bit more forced than usual. What I love about Tristan is the liquid way he tells a story – warm, sultry – like warm brandy. This was more choppy and dry and brittle. It’s hard to explain, but I didn’t love it as much as I usually do.
That being said – it’s still wonderful – he’s still amazing – and if I hadn’t had anything to measure this against I’d have no complaints so…still awesome.

The same can be said for Mary’s story telling. I know what she’s capable of and with the listening (hearing the story for the 2nd time) I got tired of Miro’s self-doubt. I want him to finally feel secure in his and Ian’s love – once and for all.

In any case – I think fans will be satisfied as always and anyone “new” must read the series from book 1 before they get to this so…

Recommended!

Author Bio:

Rowan McAllister is a woman who doesn’t so much create as recreate, taking things ignored and overlooked and hopefully making them into something magical and mortal. She believes it’s all in how you look at it. In addition to a continuing love affair with words, she creates art out of fabric, metal, wood, stone, and any other interesting scraps of life she can get her hands on. Everything is simply one perspective change and a little bit of effort away from becoming a work of art that is both beautiful and functional. She lives in the woods, on the very edge of suburbia—where civilization drops off and nature takes over—sharing her home with her patient, loving, and grounded husband, her super sweet hairball of a cat, and a mythological beast masquerading as a dog. Her chosen family is made up of a madcap collection of people from many different walks of life, all of whom act as her muses in so many ways, and she would be lost without them.
