Ethan Hall plans to fill Saturday, December 23, with junk food and bad TV, a day just for him amid the holiday chaos… until his baby sister calls and begs him to go collect a present for her. At the biggest shopping center in Australia. On the busiest shopping day of the year. Hell no. Right?

Ethan’s soft heart gets the best of him. He battles through the parking lot, and in the main shopping concourse, he’s trampled, elbowed, and bombarded with terrible holiday music. Then he enters hell itself, a specialty store aimed at women… where he meets Ty. They bond in a sea of estrogen and manic shoppers, fighting together to attain freedom, only to find they’re not quite ready go their separate ways.

Review

This was a quick little story about finding the silver lining… in a shopping mall! It was cute, witty and sweet. A nice holiday quickie!

Hearts and Hazelnuts by Kris T Bethke Guest Post and Exclusive Excerpt!

13106711_10156802171995414_1691349163_o

Hey there, I’m Kris T. Bethke, and I’m excited to be here today to bring you an exclusive (and slightly NSFW) excerpt from my new release, Hearts and Hazelnuts, available now.

Blurb:
Mechanic Jordan Hart is down on his luck, so he gladly accepts a temporary job servicing tractors at a hazelnut farm in Newberg, Oregon. He doesn’t expect to be attracted to his boss, Beckett Shaw. Still working on embracing his bisexuality, he’s reluctant to start anything, but Beckett’s gentle coaxing convinces Jordan to take a risk.
Beckett has vowed not to get involved with anyone until he can restore the Shaw Farms name as a leader in hazelnuts. But there’s no denying his interest in the shy mechanic who shows up at his door. Just as they begin to find a balance, outside forces threaten to tear them apart. Job opportunities force Jordan out of the Portland area he loves so much. But when danger comes too close to Beckett, Jordan must decide if he can follow his heart to the Willamette Valley… and straight back to Beckett.

Excerpt:

The swirls inked on Jordan’s shoulder and biceps fascinated Beckett. During their first time together, Beckett had been so intent to get Jordan out of his clothes and into bed that he hadn’t taken time to truly appreciate them. But a week later, having finally managed to convince Jordan to stay past dinner, Beckett took the time to explore.
A few nudges, a little coaxing, and Beck had Jordan stretched out beneath him on the couch. Jordan’s shirt disappeared quickly, and he had one hand buried in Beckett’s hair as Beck licked and kissed the whorls and twists of the tattoo. The other palmed one of Beckett’s asscheeks and squeezed convulsively every time Beckett hit a hot spot. If that weren’t enough, the way Jordan bucked his hips—seeking friction against Beck’s pelvis—let Beck know how much Jordan enjoyed it. Beck liked it just as much. He glanced up, gave Jordan a wicked grin, and made sure he had his attention before he pointed his tongue and purposefully dragged it across Jordan’s already-wet skin.
“Stop,” Jordan hissed as he tightened his grip on Beck’s hair to still Beck’s head. “You’ll make me come, and there’s no way I’m driving home with sticky underwear.”
“You can always stay.” Beckett said the words softly and muffled them into Jordan’s skin.
Beckett had quickly learned not to push. Jordan seemed to think that staying over meant something more than it did, and he hadn’t stayed since that first night. He tried not to read too much into Jordan’s behavior, but it was clear he didn’t want to make any kind of commitment. That was fine with Beckett. His focus was the farm, and he was happy to keep things casual.
But that didn’t mean he didn’t want his lover in his bed through the night.
“That’s not—” Jordan moaned as Beckett bit gently on the sensitive skin of his upper arm. “—keeping things very separate.”
“Sure it is.” Beck kissed the spot to soothe the hurt and trailed his lips up and over Jordan’s shoulder. He buried his nose in Jordan’s neck and inhaled the scents of sweat and aftershave and autumn wind. “Work is work. And play is play.” He ground his hips against Jordan’s and dragged a moan out of him. “Very different.”
“You’d tempt a saint.” Jordan’s tone was playful, and there was no doubt he was still turned on. Beckett could feel the evidence against his hip. But Jordan was also a lot less pliant and relaxed than he’d been a moment before, and the last thing Beck wanted was for Jordan to bolt.
“Tell me about the tattoo?” Beck latched on to the first thing that entered his mind—anything to keep Jordan with him instead of getting in his truck and driving away.Jordan shrugged his decorated shoulder and offered Beck a kind of half smile, even as his gaze darted away.
“No story. A friend was learning and wanted to practice. I let him do whatever he wanted. He kept playing with shapes and lines and cleaned up the older stuff as he got better. And after a couple of months, I had this.”
Beck was stunned for a moment. He didn’t have any tattoos. He’d never thought of something important enough that he’d want it inked permanently on his body. And Jordan had just let his friend play. That took a lot of guts, and it perfectly fit what Beckett knew of Jordan.
“That’s cool,” Beckett said when he realized he’d been silent for too long. Jordan offered him a smile, and Beckett returned it and made it dirty. Jordan’s eyes heated, and Beckett pushed himself up so he could speak right into Jordan’s ear.
“You got any more I haven’t seen yet?”
Jordan sucked in a breath, and the tiniest whine escaped. He licked his lips, swallowed, and slowly turned his head until he was looking Beck right in the eye.
“Why don’t you take me to bed and find out?”

About The Remaking of Corbin Wale

Last month, Alex Barrow’s whole life imploded—partner, home, job, all gone in forty-eight hours. But sometimes when everything falls apart, better things appear almost like magic. Now, he’s back in his Michigan hometown, finally opening the bakery he’s always dreamed of. But the pleasure of opening day is nothing compared to the lonely and beautiful man who bewitches Alex before he even orders.

Corbin Wale is a weirdo. At least, that’s what he’s heard his whole life. He knows he’s often in a fantasy world, but the things he feels are very real. And so is the reason why he can never, ever be with Alex Barrow. Even if Alex is everything he’s always fantasized about. Even if maybe, just maybe, Corbin is Alex’s fantasy too.

When Corbin begins working at the bakery, he and Alex can’t deny their connection any longer. As the holiday season works its magic, Alex yearns for the man who seems out of reach. But to be with Alex, Corbin will have to challenge every truth he’s ever known. If his holiday risk pays off, two men from different worlds will get the love they’ve always longed for.

High Test by Elizabeth Noble

The coffee is rich. Hayden isn’t. But Neal doesn’t need to know that—yet. Hayden Owens is just your typical graduate student working his way through school as a barista for the Owens Coffee Company—no relation. But he keeps the “no relation” part to himself when he meets dashing architect Neal Kirchner, a successful older man from an old-money family. Hayden doesn’t exactly lie, but he figures it can’t hurt for Neal to believe he’s a rich kid. After all, Hayden doesn’t want Neal thinking he’s a gold digger. The closer they become, the harder it gets for Hayden to come clean. Something always seems to get in the way. When a company bankruptcy and a jilted, vindictive woman threaten to expose his charade, Hayden thinks it’s all gone down the drain. Luckily Neal is ready with some innocent trickery of his own.

Review:
This is a cute May/December, cinderfella romance! Neal, older, wealthy guy meets Hayden, a struggling (car) engineering student. They meet and bond over a love of cars at a school function – where Hayden has to leave (without getting Neal’s contact info) to catch the last bus. They meet again and begin a slow romance.
It’s a cute story. They go out on a series of dates, getting to know each other before getting intimate. As Hayden falls for Neal, he needs to clear up the misunderstanding of who he really is, but before he can do so, it blows up in his face. Lucky for Hayden, Neal showed his maturity by making it a non-issue.
The supporting cast, including Steffie, Rick, Nathan and the dogs, round out the story nicely.
There were a few issues (for me) that did not make me love the story: 1. why would Neal, an astute businessman, assume that Hayden was related to the owners of the coffee company that owns the place Hayden worked at? 2. While the romance progressed slowly, it was still a bit surprising that they were already thinking marriage – Hayden had just graduated!

Other than that, it’s a sweet, pretty angst-free, cozy read.

A Dead and Breakfast Novel
A romance worth fighting for—tooth and claw.

Solitary vampire Fallon Underwood gets all the social interaction he needs being the silent partner at the Dead and Breakfast B and B high in the Colorado mountains. Change is hard for Fallon, so when his business partner, Tanner, suggests hiring a new manager for the inn, he’s adamant that they don’t need help, especially not in the form of bouncy werecat Carter Hughes.

Carter is a happy-go-lucky kitty, and he loves the hospitality industry, so the D and B ought to be a great place for him. He falls for Fallon as soon as he picks up one of Fallon’s novels, and begins to woo the vamp with gifts. When Fallon finally succumbs to Carter’s feline charms, the results are unexpected, to say the least. Their mating will have irreversible consequences—for their bodies and their hearts.

Review

This is a different take on supernatural interspecies mating.
I liked the quirky characters at the B&B – from Fallon, the moody writer (vampire); Tanner co-owner (Bear) and Glenda (Gorgon). Tanner needs a day manager to help take on some of the day to day managerial duties, (since Fallon, co-owner has little interest in helping). Carter, a werecat, applies and gets the job. Carter is friendly, chatty, with a sunny disposition – all the things Fallon is not. But Carter ‘weres’ Fallon down (I couldn’t resist☺) and they fall in love.
It was interesting the way Fallon and Carter’s relationship progressed; especially the way they took on each other’s traits – Carter developing photosensitivity, while Fallon had a vague craving for meat. However, the two men have to find a way to adjust to their mating changes or they will slowly die. With the help of a B&B staff, a few guests and a local doctor, the two men figure out a way to adjust to each other and live happily together.
There is a bit of heartache when Fallon thinks he’s helping by pushing Carter away. As a result, Carter becomes feral and Fallon has to find a way to bring him back.
I enjoyed the story, especially the twist on the fated mates trope.
I hope there will be stories for some of the other characters, like Tanner or Dan (wolf, guest).

Dear Ruth,
I’m not in the mood for Christmas. After a romantic relationship went up in flames, I returned to my hometown in rural Kansas. Then my mother passed away. I’m really busy with my job as fire marshal—and now with my mother’s advice column, which I reluctantly took over. There’s a sexy newcomer down the street, a guy with a young daughter and an unfortunate disregard for fire safety. He seems to want to be friends, but that creates problems that may be too hot for me to handle. The last things I need right now are flammable holiday decorations and too much holiday food. How am I supposed to give good advice to others when I can’t seem to get my own life straight?
—Bah Humbug in Bailey Springs

Review

This was amazingly and superbly sweet and a perfect start to this Advent Collection!

I just love a story about older guys and Kim Fielding is perfect at giving us “regular Joes” finding love in ordinary circumstances with extraordinary results.

This was low key, tender and very sweet.

Highly Recommended!
