Succumbing to his Fear by River Mitchell

succumbing to his fearBlurb

After a life changing event makes Alfie the legal guardian of his estranged step-siblings, as well as a chance meeting one drunken night, he finds his world turned upside down when he discovers that everything he thought he knew about himself was catastrophically wrong.

Before meeting Alfie and his family, Fear was content with his casual hookups and one-night stands, purposefully keeping everyone at an arm’s length. As Alfie comes into his burgeoning feelings, a curveball shakes the two men, threatening to destroy Fear and his new found chance at happiness with Alfie.

With everything thrown into turmoil, Fear decides to fight for those he loves, Alfie and his family included. Will they be able to survive the collateral damage around them, or will they lose everything?

Review

Alfie didn’t realize how much he missed his dad til he found out he’d died and left him with two siblings he didn’t even know existed! Though devastated, he knows he’ll rise to the challenge of overcoming his panic attacks and move to the US to raise them.

Once he arrives in a small town in New York state, he immediately falls in love with the little “nuggets” as he calls them, as well as the town. He makes some unlikely friends in the form of the local tattoo artist Fear.

Fear falls for Alfie immediately, though Alfie identifies as straight – he just knows they have a connection.

There is some other drama going on in town: Fear’s mother is murdered, Fear and his friends are looking like the likely suspects in the murder, people from Fear’s past are resurfacing with disturbing information and two people who couldn’t be more opposite are falling in love.

**

This – I believe- is the debut book for this author – River Mitchell and it’s AMAZING!

I was captivated from the moment I started. Alfie’s character and his mother are what hooked me right away (okay – after that hot cover!). Alfie is so self-effacing and sweet but snarky and funny that I loved being in his head when it was his POV. Though it doesn’t always work well, the POV alternated between Alfie and Fear and it worked tremendously in this case. Fear’s internal dialog is so different from Alfie that it was a lovely contrast.

The drama did bog down the story toward the last third of the book, but only in a minor way. There were also moments where I had to – pretty firmly – suspend my disbelief – but only in the best, most imaginative ways.

I loved this book very much and highly recommend it to fans of GFY, insta-love/soul mates, British humor, tattoos, artists, guys with kids, and big sexy MCs.

Rise of the Alpha Squirrel ( Nutty Romances Book 2) by Kate Lowell

RiseoftheAlphaSquirrelfinalBlurb

Nathan’s met Vince’s family, but Vince hasn’t met Nathan’s, and Nathan would like to keep it that way. Holy smoked almonds, what else do you do when you know how completely nuts your relatives are?

Why, you ease your man into it, by introducing him to normal shifters. Assuming you can find any.

But with a gossipy werehummingbird spreading the news, and a pair of young red pandas wreaking havoc with their fainting goat friends, Nathan’s about ready to climb into a pine cone and pull it in after him.

Then the local playboy weremoose hears about Vince, and Nathan has to find his inner alpha or the consequences will be worse than moldy hazelnuts.

Review

We met Nathan and Vince in book one, where they established that Nathan could trust Vince with his shifting secret and they began to grow closer as lovers.

Now Nathan is letting Vince into his life by introducing him to some of his shifter friends… and WOW are they hysterical!

Most of this short story is one failed attempt at romance after another as each of Nathan’s friends comes to investigate the newbie and ends up causing some sort of trouble.

It’s a sweet, funny addition to the first book with a few sweet moments where the relationship deepens.

Very lighthearted and fun.

When Adam Fell by Pat Henshaw Tour – Excerpt, Interview and Prizes!

BannerTemplate

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Pat Henshaw author of When Adam Fell.

Morgan: Hi, Pat, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

I’m a product of a Midwestern U. S. upbringing and a world-lust adulthood. With my husband and children, I’ve lived on both coasts and have absorbed the differences and similarities of thoughts in each. I’ve also traveled quite a bit, visiting places like Nicaragua, Thailand, and Egypt as well as England and continental Europe. All of these experiences and the people I’ve met filter into my stories and spill into how I see people.

In “When Adam Fell,” celebrity chef and cookbook author Adam de Leon, whom readers met in the first Foothills Pride story, “What’s in a Name?,” is surprised when the former love of his life returns after drug rehab and wants to resume their relationship. Can Adam believe that his lover, whom Adam left in San Francisco, has kicked his habit? While his head is unsure, Adam’s body and heart are ready to jump in and give the man a second chance.

Morgan: Where do you find your inspiration?

Everywhere. I listen in on conversations wherever I am. I observe people when they’re alone and when they’re in groups. I read, read, read.

Morgan: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

For years I worked for newspapers and magazines, writing reviews and interview pieces for publication. So I’ve considered myself a writer almost my entire life.

Morgan: Do your characters become like real people to you?

Yes, and for my husband too. We’ll catch ourselves saying things like, “That’s something Guy would say” or “That’s something Jimmy would do.”

Morgan:If you weren’t a writer, what else would you like to have done?

Uh, actually, I’ve done the other things too. In my life I’ve been a theatrical costumer; a newspaper and magazine writer; a book publicist; a reviewer of books, movies, art, and theatre; a reference librarian in public and academic libraries; a lecturer; and a teacher. And in my personal life, I’ve traveled to most of my bucket list destinations.

Morgan: What do you want your tombstone to say?

Wife and mother. She had a great life.

Morgan: Thank you for stopping by!

WhenAdamFellFSBlurb:
When his lover Jason’s drug addiction spiraled out of control, TV celebrity chef and cookbook author Adam de Leon walked away from him. Adam also abandoned his renowned restaurant in San Francisco to start a small bistro in the Sierra Foothills.
Five years later Adam is battling the conservative leaders of Stone Acres, California, to open a new restaurant in historic Old Town when Jason turns up on his doorstep—a recovered Jason, now going by the name David and claiming he’s overcome his addictions. What’s more, he begs Adam to take him back and says he’s ready for their happily ever after.
Adam has enough on his plate with problems plaguing the opening of his restaurant. And now he’s having a hard time deciding which to follow—his head or his heart.

BadgeExcerpt:
I watched Jason rise from the stoop.
He looked good. His golden hair sparkled in the day’s first light. A happy smile tinged with nervousness spread across his lips. He was wearing a silver-gray Bogner jacket, some sort of expensive pants, and sturdy boots. Hanging from his shirt collar, his sunglasses looked like those high-priced titanium ones. All in all, the guy standing in front of me could easily have fit into the young, hip app crowd now flooding the valley. Too much money and no idea where to spend it. He looked like a guy who’d eat at the Bistro and then fucking strut up to me after dinner, put a wad of Franklins in my pocket, and whisper, “Quit this job and come cook for me.”
Nothing tempted me, especially not the hundred-dollar bills I’d thought were Monopoly money the first time I’d seen them. Nothing had moved me like this, seeing Jason rise straight up in front of me like a fucking miracle.
Standing there in my scuffed clogs, beat-up jeans, and ratty Stanford Cardinal T-shirt, I felt underdressed for this particular dream. Shouldn’t I at least be wearing my chef’s regalia, toque and all? Shouldn’t I have a Henckel in one hand and a Wüsthof in the other? Or maybe clutching a shield made of my cooking classics, which I’d written with an angry, tormented mind but a clear eye to royalties?
“Cat got your tongue?” the vision asked.
“Fucking A, man. Is it really you, Jason?”
“Sorta. Who else would come knocking at your door looking like me?” He flung his arms out like he wanted me to hug him or some shit.
I backed away and kept my hands to myself, though my dick perked up immediately. Did Jason have a twin or a younger brother, somebody who resembled him? I didn’t think so. All I’d thought for five years was nobody—and I mean nobody—could ever have come back from where my Jason had buried himself. At least I never thought so.
There’ve been moments in my life when I was sure I was losing my mind. When I knew whatever tenuous grasp on reality I thought I had was really smoke up my ass. This moment smacked of those. As the legendary John Fogerty sang and the great Yogi Berra is supposed to have said, it was like déjà vu all over again. Only not.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked. Suspicion tasted bitter on my tongue.
Slowly his arms came down, and he gave me a pained but understanding look.
“Yeah, well, it was too much to hope we’d just kiss and make up.” His husky croak had once made me roll over and do anything he asked, but not now. “Can I come in? It’s a little chilly out here.”
I wasn’t cold, but then I’m tall and stout, a real cliché chef image. Fuck, I guess somebody’s got to be the cliché, right? It’s how clichés are born.
I shrugged at his question, swiped at the sweat rolling from my forehead, and moved aside. “Kitchen’s downstairs.” I gestured to the steps.
He walked past me, letting his hand trail over my groin. Once I would have nearly come at the gesture. Now I ignored my dick because my mind was numb and had been for years. He might think he could reawaken my love and lust, but I was pretty fucking sure that ship had sailed and gotten lost at sea.

Taylor Maid by Tara Lain

release day review

Dreamspinner Presents

http://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=7421

28452742Blurb

He’ll marry the maid to get $50 million but a secret could queer the deal.

Taylor Fitzgerald needs a last-minute bride.

On the eve of his twenty-fifth birthday, the billionaire’s son discovers that despite being gay, he must marry a woman before midnight or lose a fifty-million-dollar inheritance. So he hightails it to Las Vegas… where he meets the beautiful maid Ally May.

There’s just one rather significant problem: Ally is actually Alessandro Macias, son of a tough Brazilian hotel magnate. But if Ally keeps pretending to be a girl for a little while longer, is there a chance they might discover this marriage is tailor-made?

Review

Okay – put on your “suspend your disbelief glasses”- because this story is absolutely wonderful if absolutely unbelievable J

Taylor finds out at the very last second that in order to inherit $50 million he needs to be married before his 25th birthday – which is tomorrow!

He scrambles to find an answer, but when that answer ends up with a broken leg, he’s left to find a miracle. The miracle shows up in the form of the hotel maid who happens to need an escape from “her” father and marriage will do the trick.

The two agree to be married right away and run back to California to perpetuate the image of a happily married het couple. Until… well… stuff happens and then other things are revealed… and feelings … and hot smexy times… and lots of really fun story telling!

I loved this version of the “shot gun marriage” trope and I highly recommend it to fans of guys in drag, evil fathers, nefarious lawyers, sweet but clueless guys with big hearts and millionaires.

Hunter’s Mark by VS Morgan

hunter's markBlurb

Artist Casey Smith lives a quiet life, under the radar of his enemies, until one fateful night he loses control and the astonishing image of a wolf racing down a suburban street splashes all over social media.

Hunter’s bullet never misses its target. The assassin seeks out and kills his prey with a clear conscience by following two simple rules: 1) Don’t kill innocents 2) Don’t kill shifters.

Realizing his latest assignment violates those rules, the hunter activates Princess Protocol and the assassin becomes the protector. Red hot attraction flares between the hit man and his former target. Can Hunter resist the sweet shifter in his care?

Review

Hunter is an assassin, saving money for his sister’s surgery before he retires. When he smells Casey he realizes he’s not only a shifter, but his Mate. Convincing Casey that Hunter is safe when all Casey has known is humans is the real challenge.

**

VS Morgan is a new author, to me, but one I’m now going to follow!

This is a short but funny, sweet and sexy shifter story. I thought that there was great world-building despite the length and the character development was excellent.

There is a brief introduction to the MC from book two and a very HEA.

Highly recommended to fans of shifter romances in bite-sized portions!
